Nice video! The tips you showed here would've really helped me and my friend during the Quarantine Jam, especially things like planning and... 𝙋𝙇𝘼𝙔𝙏𝙀𝙎𝙏𝙄𝙉𝙂 I appreciate the work you guys put into these videos, and look forward to future content! Thanks! :D
I really love your game jam games and tutorials, they really help me out. But have you ever made a big game? Like one that you could get paid for? Dani is working on Karlson and Blackthornprod made The dreadful whispers, I would really love to see a full game from brackeys.
0:28 Best acting 😜 It's because guys of you I keep mantain my motivation in learning game making stuff Free alternative of Photoshop: Krita Free alternative for audio: Ocenaudio
I'm here to say thank you, I always tried to jump into game design, but never found some good tutorials. As I future Eletric Engineer I hope to be better at progamming as you are.
You think to much, you hope to much. Sit down and write some code, make a game. Does not matter if you dont know how, make some object move. Make something, everyday save everything so you can monitoring your progress. Stop thinking unless you are thinking about how to solve a specefic problem. Make a simulation to show the electric field calculated from the basic rules you know. Dont waste your life hoping, make it happen.
I always wonder how game developers can learn so many skills quickly. They have to be able to model, make art, do sound design, code (some of the time) and so much more. I'm going to university for game design and development and, honestly, having to be able to do all this is fucking terrifying. I'm certain that 3 years is not long enough to learn all this.
They make prototypes, they use ready made models or make very simple ones so they can show their vision. Then they foundrise to hire more developers to make their game into reality. For a solo game developer making a full game is not very realistic, like minecraft was possible cause of the very simple first version. Lookup how first version of facebook looked like for example.
I know this comment it 2 years old but you don't need to learn all of this at all. You can specialize in a specific area you like programming, art, or writing, and stick to that. You will be working with a team on most instances, I wouldn't recommend being a solo developer because of the toll it takes and how counterproductive it is. However, if you want to learn multiple skills you totally can, just be aware that it is NOT necessary to learn all of these skills to be a game designer or developer. You typically specialize.
I really got into gamejamming during corona-caused-social-distancing, and I use your tutorials often during jams to solve some programming issues if I have any :D
I'm seeing this whole "planning" phenomenon you're talking about while already 3 days into your Jam. I can confirm, that I did not do any planning other than "I think this idea fits the theme". Will get back to you with how I go.
Why wait? Why not give it your best shot, even if the game sucks it will be experience. Save it, and then try again. Honestly if you just did weekly game jams for a year you would become a much better developer than most. Theory is not that useful, you pick up much more when you are doing projects over and over. Take it from someone who spent 10 years with theory.
even though i dont make games i still enjoy u making them and showing you how to make them and that is why im going to start making a game and i am going to watch all your tutorials!!!

This goddamned positivity of his is trying its hardest to make me grab Unity and get back into learning to game dev. One of these days he will succeed. Keep up the good vibes, Brackeys!
6:43 I had it today where I had the problem that I couldnt figure out how to drag an object across the screen with the mouse. After I had dinner, I almost immediatly solved the problem. I have been pretty much working all day.
I've also met some people who believe they're not ready to do a game jam. No such thing! Just go for it and challenge yourself to finish even the smallest project. You'll learn a lot!
Here's one thing I've found helps control scope for me: If you can't make a basic prototype within an hour, it's too ambitious. The one game jam submission I successfully pulled off was very easy to prototype. Conversely, the games I failed to submit took longer than an hour to prototype
I never know if i am ready for game jam as i probably would not finish my game in time cause i have so much other work and lack of skill but maybe in the future i will give it a try. It sounds fun.
For the small amount if people that read this, start really simle then put in nice assets and texture and make it really nice then the game turns out better. START WITH THE MECHANICS!!!!!
I will Jam next time. I discovered Construct 3 recently with zero coding and I'm so excited... Though if I can't afford it even by then, well, then I'll make a prototype on Adobe XD -- actually works for Point and Click games or visual novels.
