It was so difficult to figure out what my undertones are because of my olive undertones. Now that I have completely figured out what's going on, any ladies who are olive or think they might be and need help, here's the information I found (foundation stuff on the bottom). 1) HOW DO I KNOW: Is your foundation too pink or too orange despite having the correct depth and trying out every undertone? You might be olive. This simply means your skin has a tint of green to it. Nothing else. You can be very pale and still be olive. Try comparing your arm to others (or look at photos with you and someone else in natural daylight) and see if you look green/blue/purple/orange next to them. I look green next to my cool toned boyfriend despite being cool myself. 2) FULL INFORMATION ON OLIVE UNDERTONES: Now to complicate things further, olive undertones can be warm, cool, OR neutral. Green is a neutral color because yellow is warm, blue is cool so neutral/pure green is 50/50 of each. But green can be cooler or warmer depending on which color you add more of. Now also remember that even if you are neutral, you will most likely still be slightly cooler or warmer. After a lot of research, I learnt I am a COOL olive. This means I am an olive with more blue in my skin. I assumed falsely based on my Middle Eastern background that I must be warm, but remember that race does not actually determine what your undertones will be. Asians are thought to be "yellow", but you will still find a lot of them that are more pink or blue than yellow/golden/etc. 3) AM I A COOLER OR WARMER OLIVE: So how do I fare in these undertone tests? This video is still very viable and perfect for this. As mentioned I am cool. My veins are a mixture of purple, green, and blue. I look amazing in silver jewelry but still okay in gold. Greyish warm colours look okay but muted cool colours really make my skin look radiant. So the test shows I may be more cool, but I still look green next to other cool toned people with barely any hint of pink so it can be confusing (remember, cool isnt just based on pink undertones but also blue undertones). Some celebrities who are also cool olive: Kim Kardashian, Mila Kunis, Penelope Cruz 4) FOR FOUNDATION: Being olive can be rough and frustrating when you first learn about it and have wasted so much money on finding the right match. Believe me, I cursed every god I could think of. now that I know what undertone I am though, I've come to embrace it. The key to matching foundation is to find undertone adjusters which can be easily searched up on google. What the r/olivemua teaches is to buy a either green or blue. TEMPTU has green, but LA Girl is more affordable I think. LA Girl has blue, orange(?) and yellow foundation mixing pigments. You want to try to mix your foundation to be greener. Buy these from ULTA or the LA Girl website. I have a golden undertone foundation I mix blue in but for my too faced neutral foundation, I mix both yellow and blue to become green, but add more blue since I'm cooler. It's a lot of trial and error, so make sure to test it out on your chest or wrist to see if the undertone matches. It might not be 100% perfect, but it will be way closer than if you never used the pigments. I hope this helps. Being olive is in no way disadvantageous. I promise. I advise you to browse the olivemua subreddit and see what lipstick colours, makeup, etc, will look good on you!
Merine Covers I know a brand that sells olive foundation! They sell the olive colour in fair, warm, medium and tan... The brand is called Masquerade cosmetics, you can find it on google, and the foundation is called ‘studio cover’.. your welcome 🙂
Since people throughout the continent of Asia get tanned a little bit easier, our overtone looks a little warm and thus giving greenish appearance. Just my opinion but I've seen that a lot of people are olive here in Asia no matter what your race is..
I’m a very pale olive so it’s very hard to find information since people assume olive means having a darker skin tone. Lately I have notice I look super green when through my life it was barely visible... is it possible for undertones to become more prominent? I haven’t been getting any sunlight recently because of quarantine, do you think it could be related? Thank you for the great information by the way!
Please take my opinion with a grain of salt. I know my opinion matters much less than your own when it comes to your own appearance. From the picture I think you have neutral with slightly cool undertones. There is a very small amount of yellows in your skin, it could be the lighting of course, but I'm also looking at the cool pink of your lips which makes me think neutral/slightly cool. I would say also very moderate color/ashiness. You have vibrance in your skin but not a great amount of contrast. IMHO you would look very good in slightly dusty cool colors, but maybe not strict neutrals? Like slightly dusty cool toned pinks or blues, but not flat gray or neons. I am a very very pale skinned white girl but I watch a lot of videos of the darkest black women and I recognize how bad the beauty industry is at showing the diverse beauty of women of color. With these videos I think trying to ignore the pictures and only try to hear the words when you look at yourself might be the way. I think Lupita Nyongo is an exaple of a WOC with a lot bold color and not much ashiness in her undertones, you can see her warm undertones and she can wear very vibrant clothes and makeup. Tyra Banks on the otherhand strikes me as much more ashy, when she wears bright colors, they seem to hide her and wash her out, but warm neutrals and peaches make her look beautiful.

eizhowa same! My inner crease on my eyes is yellow, cheeks nose and chin have a little redness, slightly purple undereyes... at Sephora I got color matched as neutral with a golden undertone.
Pls do the 12 seasons 👀🙀🙀🙈💜👌🏻. I still don't know which one I am 😭 I am pale and I have a cool yellow undertone( pink foundation looks horrible on me), my hair is dark ashy blond and my eyes are brown ( medium brown, maybe a little olive). I look bad in cool pink lipstick or warm brown 😭 Is there a neutral season? I thought I may be a muted autumn or bright spring but I am so confused 🤧🤧
I have similar coloring. Ashy-blonde hair (unnatural golden highlights), medium brown eyes, pale. But I have a neutral skin and a lot of warmt in my eyes. I am a soft autumn(/soft summer). Perhaps you are a soft summer or have misunderstood your undertone? It took me years to realize I was a soft. What is your best color btw? Pink foundation rarely suits anyone to be honest. Bobbi brown doesn't even make one.
Doesn't sound as if you're bright spring. You might be soft autumn, light spring, light summer, or soft summer. Go to the following blog if you're really interested. It was the best at clearing up the seasons: www.truth-is-beauty.com
Not sure :/ I quite like some skin colour tops I have.( And I bought a new red lipstick 080 Red Smile from Dior which if I smudge it on my lips looks amazing :) ) But I cannot judge myself objectively so it is really difficult. It makes me feel better to see I am not the only person struggling with this. What are your best colours? :D
Not many blogs mention brown eyed summers so I am not sure if that is an option. I feel like I have to be one of those "mixed" seasons as neither pastels nor oranges look good on me. I also cannot wear too much black around my eyes as I look like a panda then lol I feel like brown eye makeup looks the best. Thanks, for the link :D I wish I could get draping done, but they don't have any consultants in my country :/
+K N Not sure if you were asking me or abirsashee, but my best colors are rust brown (because of my eyes), medium gray (slightly warm) because of my hair and soft white. I also look good in medium soft pink shades. I don't really like colors so I am very biased towards neutrals, so keep that in mind. You might be an untanned soft summer. I am an untanned soft autumn, but I think my coloring is warmer than yours. Or you might be between a soft autumn and a soft summer. I am somewhere in the middle because of my mix of warm and cold colors.
I always thought that the veins thing was so stupid. If you have darker skin, the brown melanin will automatically make your veins appear greener. But some of us are super yellow, but because we are also super pale, our veins still look blue..
Aly, please do not stop making your videos ! They are so helpful & beautiful. I've learned lots with your videos & I've become better at makeup helping me with my confidence. Much love !
Wow aly you are mind blowing.. that’s the reason I look good in some pinks but some peach and some yellow.. I’m closer to warm but not too much .. Rest will do more research and share my experience
I just want you to know how much I deeply appreciate your videos. And I often send them on for people to use you as a resource. Thank you for digging deep into these and being bold about your thoughts and opinions. Totally refreshing.
can you make a video where you look at celebrities (or just models or whoever) in different outfits and judge whether it looks good on them or not? Like, you can focus more on this skin color topic or explain the different body types a bit further and so on :) I mean, it's just an idea. Great video btw ♡
Profound! I am Irish, with soft ashy toned skin, little colour in my complexion, mousy brown hair with warmth. I see blue, purple and green in my veins. Sometimes my skin looks yellowish and I'm so fair. I burn in the sun, but also get a lovely warm tan. For YEARS I have been trying to figure out what I am, winter, summer, cool, warm, neutral, alien... and this is the one single video that explained everything to me. Different colours look great on me but the key has always been to keep it soft, maybe deep, maybe light, but soft toned, or powdery, so nothing too bold, and when I apply this to everything, make up, clothes, nail varnish... it's lovely. This has played havoc with the winter/summer and cool/warm/neutral tones as I tried to figure it all out. It all makes sense now! It's that ashy look that I have that's causing all the confusion! Well no more. Thank you so much.
Girl, you are just wonderful! Showing critical thinking when digging into the skin undertones and covering several situations (light, season, etc) that might change it. Particullary, I like that you tackle - again - the natural beauty and that we all should celebrate who we are! Moreover, the fact that we should be reminded and not just our clothes, you are on point! This leads us to whom we are (besides of the physical matter) and what we can add to others. Congrats!
Totally need a 12 seasons video, my skin color I think is relatively straight forward but I work with models with such interesting skin colors who I have to mix a lot of different colors for. I'll do some research on the 12 seasons myself as well. I think generally skin becomes warmer when tanned, which is why bronzers tend to be red/orange based. I'm more olive/yellow when pale, but when I get tanner I become a bit more yellow/orange.
I watched so many videos about skin tone and this was truly the most helpful. I love the emphasis on getting people to notice YOU, not your clothes. Thank you!!
I have a warm undertone, but bright cool colors suits me, bright and clear colors, not muted and not dark. So I'm definetely not a winter type (dark and cool) or a summer type (muted and cool), but also not a spring or autumn type. I'm a warm type but cool colors just suit me better, because it make my skin pop, the contrast makes my skintone glow.
I would love to see more about the 12 seasons. I have a specific picture where I look my very best - clear eyes the pop - white tea - smooth skin - thinking that I can find the color of the fabric and lip stick on a color chart to determine my specific season. A list of resources you’ve found would be great as well. Your videos are really good and incredibly helpful.
Love you Aly! The part where we will say"thank God I have this body" really hit home. I'm guilty of body shaming myself, but we should all strive to get to that point where we truly believe that our bodies are the best for us. We are healthy, we can breathe and walk and hug and feel love and that is all that matters! ❤️❤️❤️
Like maybe give more and more examples and photos of what colors look good on certain undertones and colorings. I think it would help with the confusion some of us are experiencing. Would love to see that !! Your channel is amazing. It’s such a treat for me to watch this while I get a break from momming at the gym
I'm still trying to figure it out. I always looked better in silver but my veins are green. Actually I'm very green undertones. Makeup will tell you that I'm warm but warm tones look very yellow and sickly on me. Until ding ding ding someone mentioned to me that you can be cool toned with olive undertone. I'll stick to saying I'm neutral to avoid confusion myself. Did we talk about which hair tones look best on different undertones?
Uhh the same here. Green veins and yellow undertone, still can work with some subtle warm tones without looking my best but most of them also makes me get a sickly look. I was really wondering if you can have a yellow or olive undertone but still be cool toned. If that's it I think I found the answer!
Tracy me too! I have green veins but silver jewelry looks better on me and blue/green clothing too. I currently have my hair lightened to almost platinum but in certain light I look washed out and sick. Not sure where to go with my hair color from here 😣
Yes you can be yellow and cool toned. I found a blog post about undertones for asians a few years back. I may not be asian but that lifted a lot of confusion for me. Maybe it helps you too? :) musicalhouses.blogspot.de/2010/01/undertones-for-asians-how-to-tell-if.html?m=1
Wait what? 😭 I've been confused for the past few days cos my skin is yellow, I can see green veins... but I look alive in cool blue tones (more golden, I'm black so yellow is good), deep red, mustard yellow, yellowy green bright orange made me look sick the gold disappears from my skin and it just looks grey, devoid of life. (Skin is actually kind of yellow with red, but the contrast is hideous to me as the 'yellow' doesn't look good anymore... More like a sickly yellow.) I started wearing a lot of silver because I wanted to invest in pure metals and realised I looked good...so I tried going back to gold, got this yellow gold earrings...and my skin looked ...off. How can one be yellow with cool undertones?
Hi, Aly, have you ever studied the RGB of skintones to help you determine the "mutedness" and undertone of the skin? I have researched and found nothing on that topic, although you could supposedly determine the percentage of coolness and warmness as well as ashiness by analyzing your skin's RGB values and colour hex number.
The first half when you were explaining the undertones it was very confusing for me, but then the tips & methods you gave sounded very good. They might help me come to a conclusion whether I understand all that color science stuff or not!
I'm going to try that blush trick. I'm one of those people that is "neutralish." It's a bit difficult as you pointed out because it isn't true that we can wear anything. I can't completely follow the season rules. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the seasons.
Yes yes! Plz 12 seasons vid! Thanks! I'm neutral ashy base hair gray eyes and dull skin. Makeup foundation is always neutral. However I don't look good with dusty colors. Too bad because I love the dusty mauve color that's so popular but I look like a corpse in it. Recently I've discovered my love of navy and other blues. Interested in hearing more about color theory!!
Alyson Zimmer you sound just like me! I always thought I had to be one of the Summer/Spring types due to my neutralness, but those soft colours made me look like a ghost. Tried a lot of different Winter colours and found my place in Clear Winter :)
Ive notest over the years that more natural or muted colors look best on me. I wear a blush that is has a soft glow as opposed to a shimmer or highlight which does nothing for me. The color is also close to a muted soft rose color with a bit of mauve or sweet brown . It makes me glow perfect. I also have more subtle eye color gray green with some medium dark amber around the iris. So i look better with neutral brown and nude eyeshadow as well as some purple if I want to add a pop but it also washes me out. So I choose warn and neutral pink tones for eyeshadow. Close I wear a lot of soft colors and black but I'm lazy with fashion so I can look slightly undone.
You are genius- love that you can bring all these theories to us. You are helping me so much to figure out my wardrobe and makeup and everything- thank you!
I've heard of the color season theory before, but I couldn't tell what season I was. It would be amazing if you covered it! The veins on my wrists right now look light blue and indigo. Sometimes the light blue veins look greenish though. I've always preferred silver over gold, plus I think gold looks too harsh on me because I'm pale.
I just stumbled upon your video after going down the seasonal analysis rabbit hole and all I can tell you is, after literally MONTHS of obsessing over my undertones, hiring an analyst and still completely lost- your video showed me the light!! I have watched about 5 more of your videos and I am just absolutely amazed at the gift you have for this. I am so glad I found your channel, and might I also say that you are absolutely stunning!! Stay beautiful and God bless!!🥰🙏
Wow!! I always thought I was cool because I am natural dark ash blonde, with grey- blue eyes & pink cheeks; but my veins are purple and green-blue. I don't notice either gold or silver looking better. Thanks!!
My veins are blue, but I usually choose gold. In some natural light I think I'm yellow, in other I think I'm more cool. I always burn when out in the sun. I'm confused.
I'll copy paste a comment I made here: If you are fair (or very fair) the veins test is not a good indicator because there isn't enough pigment in the skin to make veins appear green (by itself the vein is blue and if mixed with yellow colored pigments in your skin it looks green, if you are fair and/or have thin skin it will loom blue regardless of your coloring). Look for veins on the inside of an elbow, better yet, use another method. I was able to figure out my undertone with lipstick: pink and even mauve look too pink (pull pink), but warm pink, warm red, and even orange look fab!
I am a draped Bright Winter, or winter mixed with spring. I have a very fair olive skin in the winter, but I tan quickly and easily in the summer. My skin warmth definitely increases during the summer and I feel I can play a bit on the warmer side of my color palette. :)
That was very interesting. Most of the tricks for finding an understone I already knew, but your opinions and theories are very thoughtful and I enjoy listening to your ideas and techniques on clothing, etc. Your presentation is very insightful and interesting to listen to. Thank you Aly. Good job on all of your videos!
I know I'm 3 years late but.. I tried the vein test and it turned out my undertone was warm, but when I wear warm colors or gold jewellery, I start looking like I'm living off of hospital food. But when I wear colours that look like "worn out" versions of warm colors (I don't know the right term! Sorry) my skin looks so good
Beautiful, elegant young woman. Her mom cute too. i was given my"season" by someone who subscribed to the 12 seasons. i recall walking into her boutique wearing a fuscia flower pin and it was rather large and flamboyant. Her very first remark was "right intensity, wrong color." Came to find out u was a "dramatic autumn" who was in love with "winter" colors. The same intensity but in orange made it all pop. this was over 25 years ago. i am now post menopausal with gray ,salt/pepper hair and salliw, maybe ashy complexion. My mom in her youth was a warm autumn,my pop was jewel tone summer.M y pallette seems to have changed some.
such a unique way to explain this topic because i find it tricky to find out my undertone, i tried the vain test and i guess i neutral but i prefer the way i look with a darker red lip than pastels. i turn pink all over my face when i exercise or stay out in the sun. but i definitely would love to see the 12 seasons video! you're always so beautiful thank you Aly!
Terrific video! So informative, Aly! Thank you. All of the videos from this series have been so good, but this one is the best. I "had my colors done" quite a long time ago by a company called, "Color Me Beautiful." They told me then that I was a warm spring and that has served me well. As I've aged though, I have become a bit more neutral and can wear some soft blues or soft peachy pinks, pale yellows. Even so, I find I am complimented most when I am wearing corals, turquoise shades, orangey yellows, browns - especially if they are coppery or bronzey browns. I still have blonde hair (but now its blonde because I say so :) - after I had chemo my hair came back in very grey so now I color it) that I use a champagne blonde color that is more neutral but I have to use a special rinse to keep it from getting brassy. Its so funny that our kids are dark ash brown, red-verrrry orangey red, and dark ashey blonde/light brown. My hubby is (was) red like our middle son. Its funny how to warm toned people can have 2 out of 3 kids be so cool toned. We all did the veins test and mine appear to be teal. Again, great video and sorry I rambled so much!
I did want to say that as we age, our skin tones can become more neutral or cool. As we grey, our skin tone also changes. That is just something to keep in mind.
I'm so glad I found your channel! I've been trying to find my undertone for approx 20 years and the pros I've gone to disagree with each other. Maybe with your info I'll figure it out? !!!!! I'm binge watching now!!!!
I just discovered your channel by accident and I'm delighted I did. I have tried to figure out which season I am, what my undertones are, etc. and have had great difficulty. You are the first person who seems to be putting all the pieces of the puzzle together with the subtle aspects of softness etc. I would very much welcome your "twelve season" video although I would probably call it the "twelve month" video. Not, "What season are you?" but "What month are you?" You are a great research and an excellent teacher. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
I can't explain how much I ADORE YOU!!!! yloU ARE AN AMZING TEACHER!!!! i'm 36 and still confused about my undertone...i think i'm neutral because of my veins...I just love you and your channel, can't wait to learn more about each of our true beauty through your videos
Honestly, you can put whatever content on your channel. It just makes me happy when you post a new video because I know that it's going to be something relevant, and smart, and that I'll learn something new. I love and admire the dedication that you have in learning and to taught. Don't ever change this in you. You're a great and beautiful person.
yeah please do the 12 season color analysis I think it would be fun ... I don't understand why not many ppl talk about these things for me undertone is the base for a great glam look whether it's makeup outfit hair color it's for everything!! Personally I went to a professional color analyst and turns out I am a bright winter 😍😍😍 I really love my coloring and finding it out changed my style a lot
Green and purple veins on my wrist, dull skin in with flatish colour so most foundations read far too saturated in tone and vividly stand out against my skin.. I'm confident I am neutral with yellow green and some pink tones. I'm no part of peach though.. again too saturated. I can wear both gold and silver, but tend to wear on my arms rather than around my face because I feel, like you, they detract focus. Such an excellent point to which I have never put thought or words to before. Sometimes I love to wear bright lipstick. I know it is all people see upon approach but I'm okay with that type of focus because it feels fun and cheery. I very rarely wear bright clothes and wow your explanation finally made me understand why I feel I look so darned 'off' with the off touted 'jewel tones'. Another point: I believe some people tend to get duller and head more towards neutral as an aging process. Very interesting video and definitely food for thought as always. Thank you!
I've been researching this, too! I think some people fall into the 4 seasons, but most people are more neutral and they fit into one of the other 8 seasons, which are in-between the original 4. Those people (most people) can wear both cool and warm and even combine them like you were saying to look best. I'm warm/neutral. I think you're right in saying that contrast, or brightness is more important than warm/cool. I always enjoy your videos!
I have been told by a Dermatoligst that I have olive skin.. I can't tell if my veins are blue or green.. does that mean I am neutral? Love all the research you have done. Thanks
I have pale skin, blue eyes and blue veins. When I put gold and silver earrings on I find that gold looks slightly better, especially rose gold when I'm wearing fake tan and then silver when I'm pale. Clothes wise I always think light to mid blue denim jackets look really flattering next to my skin and make my eyes pop. Khaki green looks good on me too. I'm still unsure as to whether that makes me cool toned? Looking at my veins today I have a mixture, maybe I'm neutral then!
Brazilian. Ashy. Olive, green vains. Ashy gray and beige colors look good. Working in gettibg more contrast with hair n skin, but carefully because I'm over 50
So I did the cool/warm lipstick and blusher test. Cool makes my teeth look better and skin whiter but I still seem to prefer the look of the warm. Maybe that's because for years I've thought of myself as warm autumn and bought mostly warm colours, or maybe it's because I do have some neutral in my skin. I've decided to wear cool colour makeup today and see how I feel and how it looks by the end of the day!
I have fair, freckly skin, copper undertones in my hair, green/grey eyes. Overall a fair but muted complexion (I think). I am warm autumn in the 4 seasons and I think I am cool/neutral undertones but I am going to try the blush and lipstick test because I haven't done those! Love your videos AlyArt, always so educational!
I'm pretty sure that I have a warm undertone considering that my veins are an olive green colour and my skin has a golden undertone which is highlighted when I tan. However, I find that the contrast with cool tones (eg. silver) seems to look nice especially during the winter when I lose my tan and my skin looks less bright. The same happens with cool shades of lipstick or blush. For a while I was torn trying to figure out if cool tones actually look good against my skin tone or if I'm not realising that they don't.
This was SO helpful!!!! I have been so confused because I have a bit of everything in my skintone.. Now I know why! Please do the 12 seasons video, and the "veins on the wrist" experiment! Thanks again and God Bless You!
I would love to read some of the color books you are reading. My searches for colors and makeup are coming up with mostly color theory books for oil or watercolors on canvas etc.
Ah, amazing. I keep reading how your skin tone can change throughout the year, but your under tone stays the same and it never really made sense to me. I've a feeling you may be a very light olive -just like me! Being eastern European probably has something to do with it. I am now starting to get a tan and I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked at my wrist after you said your veins go green when tanned. In the winter I remember mine being purple and blue and I swear they look more greenish blue now
I am black and have been trying to figure out my undertone for a while. This helped alot because now I know that I have warm undertone but ashy as well. The lipstick thing was the deciding factor. Thank you so much.
Trying different shades of a foundation may help you identify your main undertone. I discovered that at a Lancôme counter, and they were amazed that I have pink undertones. I would say I am not fully pink, but more something between pink and natural. There is no yellow undertone for me. I am better with cooler brown, taupe colours than warmer colours. But icy blue alone is a bit weird...I need a little red/pink/purple to calm it down. That's about eye shadows. Purple colour is among the best, for my hazel eyes. For foundation I can use natural or pink tones.
I am a strawberry dark blond with grey blue eyes, greenish yellow starburst around pupil. Pink skin with light golden freckles. I’ve been told my best colors are peach, pink, navy, forest green and bright coral pink. Bright royal blue is too harsh and baby blue is nice. I look ok in soft yellow as well. Maybe I’m summer and winter? I think I am neutral. Any guesses?
My veins are green, so that would mean I have a warm undertone, but I still have trouble finding makeup that works with my undertone. Some foundations are too pink while others are too orange 😅 I can wear both gold and silver jewelry, but gold works better on my skin. Could I possibly be neutral?
The colour of my veins look just like yours and like you I can also pull off some warm-cool colours but not others. Please do the 12 seasons analysis on your channel! You have a unique perspective to how you explain things.
You are muted and slightly on the warm side but pretty neutral. I am very bright and clear and need as much pigment as I can get and on the warm side. However, because I am so bright I do well with silver AND gold jewelry. I like silver - mainly because it creates more of a white or bright high contrast effect while gold blends in a bit more since I am so yellow. My season is Bright clear Spring and it took me FOREVER to figure this out. Because I am so bright I can actually wear some cool colors that are very bright, the most important thing for me is clarity and brightness. No muted undertones at all. If I don't have clarity, contrast and brightness I disappear.
You are the most informative Beauty-UA-camr. I really enjoy all of your videos. I love you, keep on going! PS. recently found out your a singer too.. what can I say.. you're simply gorgeous - inside & out!
My veins are blue/purple, but I definitely have yellow undertones (and am a bright spring), especially when comparing myself to others. I think my veins aren't green because I am very pale and my skin is more see-through!
I always recordniced that cool bright colours like reds and pinks or navy blue, teal or brighter woodgreens and curry colours making me making me shine. Even I have a tan complexion with dark ashy brown hair and eyes, have a lot of freckles. I can get super tan in summer but also very fair in winter time. I also love neutral colors like camel and off white colours. I think I am a mix between cool and warm and my venes appear green and I my skin has a yellow undertone. I feel like warm blond hair looks nice on me and make me look more soft but I also love my natural dark hair on me that make me stand out more. :)
If you are fair (or very fair) the veins test is *not* a good indicator because there isn't enough pigment in the skin to make veins appear green (by itself the vein is blue and if mixed with yellow colored pigments in your skin it looks green). Look for veins on the inside of an elbow, better yet, use another method. I was able to figure out my undertone with lipstick: pink and even mauve look too pink (pull pink), but warm pink, warm red, and even orange look fab!
Please do the 12 season analysis video!!!! I'm Asian with light medium skin, black hair and deep brown eyes. I think I might be a bright spring or winter, and I do carry a lot of both tones in my palette. but im unconvinced because even though my skin is yellow, I was born neutral porcelain and my undertone is completely neutral.
Yes!!, this is true. What I found is we have to mimic the tone, textures and darkness/lightness of our natural appearance in our clothing. This way we are not fighting with our own nature. It's great that we are all different, life is interesting that way.
I have a pink lipstick that I love, when I look at it its kind of a coral pink, but when I put it on, on my skin it looks like a cool bright pink, and it looks good on me in a way that a warm tone wouldnt! So I guess another thing to be aware is how the color looks on your skin and not on the stick.
lipsticks definitely look different once on. A pink lipstick pulls pink (looks pinker) on a warm toned person and an orange lipstick pulls orange (pulls orange) on a cool toned person. So, pink often stands out on a warm toned face (not in a flattering way) in the same way that orange looks quite unnatural on a cool toned gal but looks almost pink on a warm toned one. I didn't wear lipstick for years because the thought of orange lips was so unappealing that I didn't even try it and pink looked too weird (don't even want to mention brown). but when i finally tried orange it looked quite flattering
Definitely cool toned, with some ashyness. I look best on muted colours I think, and silver. I did use the vein trick to find that out, mine are very blue. I also don't tan, at all, so there's little to no warmth in my skin tone.
Neural to cool I think? My veins are blue and green and I'm very pale. I like how gold looks against my skin more than silver but I definitely look better with neutral or cool tone lipstick. Warm tone hair makes my skin look red, but then I decided to henna it red / copper and it was amazing, not sure why exactly. I've never been able to find colored clothes that I like that compliment my complexion so I stick to an a chromatic wardrobe with pops of color from accessories, shoes and makeup. I love your videos! Can't wait for more!
The veins in my eye lid and feets are pink and purpule while my whole body veins are green , my teeth look good on brown and orange lipstick , i am fair with yellow and little bit pink tone on my eyelid, cheeks, hands and feets . My face look good with silver glasses and cool under tone while my body looks good with gold and silver . I'm so confused , should i treat every part differently or finding some neutral shades in between ????? Please do the12 season theory 🥰🥰🥰

Some celebrities who are also cool olive: Kim Kardashian, Mila Kunis, Penelope Cruz
4) FOR FOUNDATION: Being olive can be rough and frustrating when you first learn about it and have wasted so much money on finding the right match.
Ohhh my gosh I'm even more confused now
Great comment, just want to add in that Mila Kunis is actually a warm olive. Another cool olive example is Gemma Chan.
im black and confused
Jk Jess I was watching the video thinking the same thing.
Maybe a swatch test would help, where you put different colors next to your face? You have to do it in natural light.
Dark Vesica 😂😂😂 same
Coming to a cinema near you... “I’m black and confused”~ a Jk Jess picture
I'm Mediterranean with olive skin, my veins are green, blue and purple. Neutral town over here
How do you understand that your skin is olive? I'm Mediterranean too. Greek
I'm Mediterranean too (I'm Greek) and my undertone is between olive and yellow and yes my vains are the same as yours :(

I have yellow areas, blue areas and red areas. And neutral looking areas. The veins on my skin have different colors. So I am all colors :)
ahah same here - maybe you're more neutral
Aly Art same here but if I get neutral I can look ashy. so am I slightly warm?
eizhowa same! My inner crease on my eyes is yellow, cheeks nose and chin have a little redness, slightly purple undereyes... at Sephora I got color matched as neutral with a golden undertone.
I feel the same way
You are rainbow! ^o^

Aly has one of the most informative, smart beauty channels around. I have no idea why this channel isn't huge.
You speak like a poet. I LOVE your channel !
You'd love John Maclean
Yes, so delicate and it doesn't feel forced in any way 🦋💜
Pls do the 12 seasons 👀🙀🙀🙈💜👌🏻.
It was the best at clearing up the seasons:
www.truth-is-beauty.com
Mine are teal and purple. So they're green, blue and purple in different areas.
im pale and my vein looks black
*DO I NEED HELP*
edit: its blue-
That's why darker skinned individuals shouldn't use that vein trick. It doesn't work on darker skinned individuals.
Im light olive. Pastels (dusty) colours wash me out. Red looks fantastic on me!
How can I find if i am light olive or dark?
Pastels wash me out
I love how you try to get us to be so positive about our own features!
This is probably the only channel I am going to watch from now on bc this is the REAL stuff I have been looking for. THANKS!
Love your hair color & makeup here, Aly! 👍
I'm more olive/yellow when pale, but when I get tanner I become a bit more yellow/orange.
wow i love the deep down science of beauty, you break it down so well!
Please make a video looking at other people's wrists.
Sounds weird out of context, but yes I agree 😉🤣
That doesn't tell you whether you are cool or warm.
please talk more about the 12 seasons! love ur videos!!!
I watched so many videos about skin tone and this was truly the most helpful. I love the emphasis on getting people to notice YOU, not your clothes. Thank you!!
I'd love to see you talking about the seasons!
If that's it I think I found the answer!
perhaps you are pale/fair olive toned? it's a thing, really :)
musicalhouses.blogspot.de/2010/01/undertones-for-asians-how-to-tell-if.html?m=1
More like a sickly yellow.)
I started wearing a lot of silver because I wanted to invest in pure metals and realised I looked good...so I tried going back to gold, got this yellow gold earrings...and my skin looked ...off.
Tried a lot of different Winter colours and found my place in Clear Winter :)
such an intelligent and humble woman. Love these videos!
I'm loving this kind of videos!!! Please do the 12 seasons tutorial!!!
Learn so much from your channel, you obviously do the work that it takes! This helps those of us that need help getting to our roots.
Maybe your main characteristic is light?
Aly Art is it like neutral? So I don't have to be necessarily cool or warm? Then how to choose what matches me?
I'll copy paste a comment I made here: If you are fair (or very fair) the veins test is not a good indicator because there isn't enough pigment in the skin to make veins appear green (by itself the vein is blue and if mixed with yellow colored pigments in your skin it looks green, if you are fair and/or have thin skin it will loom blue regardless of your coloring). Look for veins on the inside of an elbow, better yet, use another method. I was able to figure out my undertone with lipstick: pink and even mauve look too pink (pull pink), but warm pink, warm red, and even orange look fab!
It's possible that you are neutral, so you can wear whatever color you want.
Fair warm as opposed to light warm neutral I'm light to medium warm and neutral
I am a draped Bright Winter, or winter mixed with spring. I have a very fair olive skin in the winter, but I tan quickly and easily in the summer. My skin warmth definitely increases during the summer and I feel I can play a bit on the warmer side of my color palette. :)
That was very interesting. Most of the tricks for finding an understone I already knew, but your opinions and theories are very thoughtful and I enjoy listening to your ideas and techniques on clothing, etc. Your presentation is very insightful and interesting to listen to. Thank you Aly. Good job on all of your videos!
id love to watch a video about the 12 seasons theory, please make a video about it ! :)
best makeup artist ever.. smart and professional.. and u are so beautiful.. i would love to learn the 12 seasons theory from u.. thank u
The blush trick is brilliant!
Most satisfying video on undertones on UA-cam that I've watched so far!
You should do a podcast, I love listening to you talk
!!!!! I'm binge watching now!!!!
pls make a video on the 12 seasons. You're so knowledgeable and give information so straightforwardly. 💕
You are amazing! Spent several months researching to find my undertone. If I had seen this video I would have had almost all the answers in a day!
Thanks
Thanks for such a well-rounded explanation! I’ve spent the past hour trying to understand these concepts, and this video made things much clearer.
You are the best. I'm so glad I found your channel. ☺️
Thank you so much )))
I think I'm neutral mostly leaning a little cool toned. Definitely get warmer during the summer though
Completely agree, Momma Bear. Aly, you are adorable and so so knowledgeable and generous with your information!
Looking at my veins today I have a mixture, maybe I'm neutral then!
wowww this is mindblown. alwsys love your channel because there are very informative. not just about trying on makeup.
Brazilian.
For foundation I can use natural or pink tones.
please, please do the 12 seasons video!
Literally the best find out your undertone video ever.
Any guesses?
i never saw a better beauty channel an youtube. never never stop doing this!!!
I think my veins aren't green because I am very pale and my skin is more see-through!
ditto!
Me, too!
Interesting. I'm pale too and my veins are visible all over my body, but they are distinctly green.

Oh my God i just discovered your channel, you are incredible, this the most clever beauty channel i 've never seen!! thank you sooo much !!
I’m green when I tan as well !!
Your vein trick works
Definitely cool toned, with some ashyness. I look best on muted colours I think, and silver. I did use the vein trick to find that out, mine are very blue. I also don't tan, at all, so there's little to no warmth in my skin tone.
Omg i got so excited when i saw you have a video on this. You are so informative and detailed in your explanations.
I would love to see more videos on color theory and what colors are best
The veins in my eye lid and feets are pink and purpule while my whole body veins are green , my teeth look good on brown and orange lipstick , i am fair with yellow and little bit pink tone on my eyelid, cheeks, hands and feets . My face look good with silver glasses and cool under tone while my body looks good with gold and silver .
I'm so confused , should i treat every part differently or finding some neutral shades in between ?????
Please do the12 season theory 🥰🥰🥰
