Aly Art Hi Aly, please can you do a video on what are the best colours for your skin tone, in terms of makeup colours, hair colour and clothes? Thanks :)
I would love to see some videos of fans sending in photos for you to analyse and talk about what makeup hair etc would suit best for their face and body type.
Yes Michael Jackson had vitiligo since he was like 5 or younger. I don't think it was specifically documented. I once saw a black and white picture of him (around 3yo?) taken in a bathtub with no clothes on (you can easily Google that, I think) which clearly showed the whitish spots starting from his spine. Over the years he tried to cover the *light* spots with *dark* makeup to match his natural skin color (from Jackson 5 to "Off the Wall" & "Thriller"). As the disease progressed, the white patches started to dominate and he then had to use *light* makeup to cover up his remaining dark skin (1987, "Bad" era). Now you can easily Google pics of his oldest son Prince with the same condition -- visible white patches on his arm and armpits. Tell me something else that could cause this other than vitiligo? It always infuriates me when I encounter ignorant people saying "he bleached his skin" because he was ashamed of being black. Deep down he knew he was black and was proud of it (he said this in an interview). I appreciate that you brought this up to inspire me to post this comment for more people to see.
I love how you explain everything. Some makeup artists are now aplying techniques of highlighting and contouring you gave us years ago... just saying 😌. You are a genious that knows how to pass on your knowledge. Thank you so much! Happy New Year!!!
I love how much your videos relax me. For real. Anxiety is almost gone. Peace almost restored just by hearing your voice so I usually listen to the videos while working.
Celeste Yi Limbal ring....I just keep repeating it. Lol I love words and this is a new one for me. Thank you! Blessings be upon you in this new year! ✌🏼🙏🏼❤️.....limmmmbuhlll ringgg........ cool word!
I think, just my opinion, the more Yang there is in your body/face the more you can pull off big contrast( Dramatic, FN, DC, FG, G) and the more yin you have the more you can pull off less contrasted looks( like Romantic, TR, SN, and especially SC ) 🤷♀️
Oh yeah, THIS is the video for me! I'm a -1 contrast with ruddy pale skin and dirty blonde hair... and everything I do with makeup and clothes is about adding contrast! Taking the redness out of my skin, darkening my brows and lashes, wearing bright colours etc. Thanks for exploring this topic!
I understood that contrast is the difference intensity of color between hair/skin/eyes/eyebrows. What I don't understand is why very black women with very black hair is not low contrast (because the skin and the hair are a similar intensity)
I have that photo in the middle at 12:08 on my Pinterest board and I've never understood why I find it so beautiful. Is it the hair, is it the sweater, is it the scarf, I don't know. Happy New Year!
Can we link this contrast theory to the kibbe model? Like perhaps very high contrast and very low contrast looks better on dramatics and gamine due to their already naturally extreme look and other types look more natural in a midrange contrast? I dunno...
I just stumbled across your page. Your probably the most intelligent make up artist I've ever heard. Art, contrast, gradiant........brilliant!!!! Understanding contrast, balance, angles. Brilliant teaching!!!!!
I love all of your videos! So fascinating and eloquently explained! I am Polish, and 0 contrast- just like the Russian girls in your last video about this. I spent most of my life dying my hair black or dark brown for the contrast, and even sometimes bleach blonde to go the other direction. Right now i am natural and 0 contrast and trying to embrace my nature.... cool dark blonde hair, and neutral everything. Lol. Living it Italy right now and resisting the urge to dye my hair and eyebrows dark again. Your video made me realize why: i am surrounded by high contrast beauty! Best wishes to you in all your endeavors! Xoxoxo
wow, that is surprising for me to hear! :) I have light skin and my hair is very dark brown, almost black, my eyes are almost black and my eyebrows are almost black ... and I dont like that contrast! lol !!! sometimes I do, but most of the times I would like to be 0 contrast... it is more fascinating to me :|
Should we change our contrast? Who should or should not change it? I think I’m a 0. I think on me a softer look is best on me so maybe less contrast or maybe an even exchange.
Patti Brown if you wanna change you do it there’s no “right” one. Personally I’m 2+ and I’d like to be 1+ or 0 but someone else for example 0 maybe would like to be 2+. It’s all about your personal preference
Wow I never realised that I find low/no contrast personally attractive. I am naturally a +1 until I spend time at the beach and my skin tans and my hair lightens in the sun reducing my contrast.
What is the significance of more or less contrast? For example, is a higher level of contrast more ageing? Or does it have no significance other than being a matter of preference?
I think that it applies to the different body types. Some may look better with high contrasts and some may look better with less contrast. Hope that answers your question:)
I would say it's mainly preference. However colouring tends to fade with age and become less contrasted. So it might make some people look younger to make themselves more contrasted.
@@vampiric-elf5619 Agreed. I suspect it's the reason many wear makeup as well. It looks healthy by adding more color and contrast to the face. When people are sick they tend to lose color and contrast. Anything correlated with health would also be correlated with attractiveness I suspect for the opposite gender. Coming from a female, I can't speak much to that but I wonder if there's some truth to the saying tall, dark and handsome. I recall coming across a study that found that men actually favored brunettes a while ago... then a study that said that they preferred blondes. I never cared enough to look into the matter, but I wonder if blondes are viewed as childlike, and thus taken less seriously. As a dark blonde now, I was platinum as a child. I wonder if that has any bearing on why men to prefer to marry a brunette. There's a lot of dumb blonde stereotypes despite the statistics that blue eyed individuals on average rate as being more intelligent. That however, could explain why women trust blue eyed men less... perhaps they are a bit clever? Human behavior is an interesting thing. I do find that low and high contrast individuals appear very striking while those in the middle like myself, tend to either lighten hair and add makeup (increasing contrast), or dye their hair a bright or a dark hue. Rarely do I find 0's that decrease contrast IRL... causing me to think that unless you're an ethereal type, you could benefit from added contrast. My personal preference as a zero contrast, is that the middle is a bit bland without a striking contrasted feature like bright colored eyes, hair or skin (which can be altered by tanning, contacts, hair dye, clothing and makeup). Anyone with a zero or less, tends to have somewhat vanishing lashes as well, which is kind of cute on ethereal types but rarely cute outside of that.
@@TB-rx1ue I agree with a lot of that. I think much of the fascination men have with both blondes and red heads is that they're unusual colours. Most people in the world are brunettes of some kind. I always wanted to either be extremely low contrast or high contrast too! I spent so much money and time trying to go platinum, several different times in my life. I think I am an ethereal, and it did suit me, but started making all my hair fall out so I went brunette again. Even though white hair with my white skin and pale blue eyes looked very whimsical on me, it did sometimes make me look sickly. As soon as I dyed it brown I instantly looked healthier. I think ethereals and low contrast people suffer from that, it can look so amazing, but everything seems to show up more. Dark circles, any redness in the complexion. I'd say it's definitely takes much less work to look good when you're higher contrast.
Hey Aly, I just wanted to let you know that your videos are amazing, and much appreciated! Never in my life have I ever cared about contrast, yet here I am hahaha... I also wanted to say that the amount of inclusion you've put forward in this video did not go unnoticed. It's always hard to please everyone, but I'm really happy you tried to do so. Most people would have just ignored the issue entirely. It took me a while, but thankfully, I finally understand where I fit into on the contrast scale. Thank you so much :)
I love this sort of content so much. I'm still confused about where I'd place myself however. I have very unusually pale skin, it's usually the first thing people notice about me. I used to have light ashy brown hair so I was mid/low contrast despite the unusual skin tone. I lost a lot of hair due to health reasons and medications, and it's come back in extremely dark brown. Almost black. Yet my brows are still blonde. My eyes are light grey/blue. I'd say the contrast between my hair and skin would make me +2, but the eyes and brows take it down a level. I think I might get my brows tinted and go for a vampish, high contrast look.
We look the same! I also tint my brows and lashes because of my unusual dark hair. i did get a sort of balayage done, looks pretty cool. I tried fake tanning but it looks bad, so i'm just trying to rock the vampire look now lol
Great video, as always!!! I have very dull, low contrast coloring. I wish I was high contrast, so I try to achieve more contrast with makeup. I have dirty blonde hair, medium neutral olive skin, and brown eyes. I feel blah and all over plain dull sallow BEIGE. ....unless I wear contrasting toned makeup (ie, a cool toned smokey eye with a warm pale nude lip, or a warm smokey eye with a cool pale nude lip. The contrast in tone of makeup colors really helps to brighten up my look. Bright blush also is a must for me to obtain a higher contrast look, as do adding face framing pale blonde highlights to my hair! ) On the other hand, I cannot wear bright lip colors. I wish I could, but they just come off looking garish against my skin. When I use high contrasting makeup, I need to keep the shades still a bit muted to avoid them being too harsh on me. I wish you could do a video on how to find the right RED lip for zero- contrast neutral olive medium skintones!
I can't wait to hear more of your thoughts on this subject! With every video I get more and more interested. I hope you have a happy and succesful 2020! Happy new year Aly!
I am a 0 contract naturally, being Russian ethnically with some Middeterrenian background (1/4), I have a little yellowish skin, still light though, dark brows and lashes, grey-blue-green eyes with darker outside circle, and ashy "Russian" light brown hair. I found that for me adding contrast by coloring my hair a bit darker (chocolate colour) works so much better, otherwise I feel like I am lost and too blended.
I've only just discovered your channel and have been binge watching as I'm fair skinned with blue green eyes, depending on the weather, and Auburn hair which is now more white than grey so looking at what would suit me now. This is the first video mentioning grey/white hair, it's a big transition especially in makeup and what now suites.
I'm binging your videos!! The amount of work and research plus great way of teaching you put into your videos, is AMAZING. It's what I've been wanting for years! Thank you so much!
Aly happy new year! I love your videos, they are very complete and one can tell there's been research behind each one. Thanks for making them! Have a beautiful life 💕
My contrast is probably about -.5 -- my skin is quite fair, blue eyes, with medium/mousy brown hair that tends to blonde -- and I also have vitiligo. Just bringing that up because it's a condition that can occur in any complexion. Even my vitiligo is a fairly low contrast, but in the summertime or whenever I'm in the sun and get some pigment in my melanated areas, it shows up. I think it's stunningly beautiful on +2 contrast complexions, and I wish MJ had been raised to see the beauty of his own body, skin and face.
I only started watching your videos for a couple days now and I so grateful you're putting effort into helping people of ALL body types, skin types, face types in finding the right look. I'm a mixed race so my profile is confusing. I'm a medium brown with a slight olive undertone, pear shaped angular face, short very skinny but distinctly curvy body type. So people like me are typically forgotten or overlooked when it comes to beauty guides, I really appreciate how people like me aren't overlooked on your channel
Happy New Year to you also. I wanna see your subscribers increase! About contrasts - as I was listening I thought about contrasts that don’t work on me and realized contrast is neither Good or Bad, it just is. I am quite pale with dark eyes brows, lashes and eyes. When I wear the color black it looks not so good. People ask me if I’m well. Hah! So while it was my attempt to create contrast because of pale hair and skin I think what I did was over contrast. So balance seems to factor in. A lack of contrast is also sometimes the latest style. For example, I wore a darker frame on my glasses but then styles here locally changed and I went with a pale almost clear frame on my glasses which generated lots of compliments. Go figure😳. So thanks to you I’ve figured out that balance is also factored in with Contrast. Now - if only I could be more normal and be out and about with NO makeup. Not gonna happen. Balance comes at a price sometimes. I so envy you ladies that can just walk out the door sans makeup. Happy New to all your Subscribers!
Would you make a video about the ethereal look (face and hair)? I can see it' s not about the contrast level, I simply can't figure out what creates such a look. Many thanx indeed!
You have helped me so much over the years Ali. Thanks for sharing your knowledge so we can all be our best authentic selves. Happy new year, can’t wait for your 2020 content!
I wonder if you gonna link this with the kibbe types. I remember you saying dramatics dont look so good with low contrast. And I thought you would talk about your hair in this video. you have an ashy blond but you bleach the ends and make the roots darker, what do you think these changes do to your coloration?
I just want to say that you are Amazing! Your videos are so informative and interesting. It's definitely a novel way to speak about beauty. Also a big thank you for including darker skin tones in your explanation :) Please come to see us in Ceska republika!
This video was so informative! I am either plus one or two contrast and have been already thinking on those lines. Early summer I decided against going lighter with my hair colour and actually dyed it a shade darker, because making it lighter will take away the contrast. We, the women of Indian origin heavily outline their eyes for the same reason: to achieve more contrast. Similarly, lipsticks lighter than my lip colour can also looks a bit weird on me. And I feel sometimes I look worse after foundation on. Another informative thing I found on other videos was the level of greyness in the skin, which is why, I think I suit more muted shades of bright colours than stark bright pink or even cool bright green for example. (But don't mind royal blue)
Спасибо, обожаю твои видео. У тебя классный английский! Делаю тебе коротенькую вырезку об ободочке на глазах, которые ты называешь "Darker frame": Dark circles or rings around the iris are known as LIMBAL RINGS. They appear as a dark border separating the iris from the whites of the eye. Considered to be a desirable fashion, they highlight the iris colour and make the whites look whiter, adding drama to the eye's appearance.
I’d love if you could talk a little more about latinas. I can’t identify myself with any of this ladies :( so is hard to guess what would be best for us! Btw, I’m a huge fan of yours! Love you! xx
I really enjoy your videos! Thank you for all of the work that you put into them. Are there any examples of styles for the Romantic type that don't come off as mature? I'm having trouble finding anything that I would actually like to wear in the suggestions so far, but I definitely have round features and an hourglass shape.
Thank you aly , I just want to know what's the next step , i mean after understanding this contrast thing, i want to know what suit me better as a +1, should i add contrast , is itokey to take off some of it ??
I don’t understand why achieving contrast is so popular. I‘m something between -2 and -1 and creating a lot contrast with my make up and clothes makes me feel so fake. It may look very cool and modern, but it doesn’t look like me anymore. A good skincare, some rouge and concealer, maybe a liiiiittle bit brown mascara and I‘m good to go. In my outfits I avoid combinations like a white top an black skirt.

Yes, I'm in line for that. I'm bad at understanding what looks good on me or what I even look like.
Agree
Great idea

Yes Michael Jackson had vitiligo since he was like 5 or younger. I don't think it was specifically documented. The darker frame around the iris is called a "limbal ring" and is considered very desirable in some cultures as a sign of youth.

Limbal ring....I just keep repeating it.
Lol I love words and this is a new one for me. Thank you!
Blessings be upon you in this new year! ✌🏼🙏🏼❤️.....limmmmbuhlll ringgg........ cool word!
In babies the limbal ring is thick and dark, really makes the iris pop from the whites of the eyes.. all about that contrast lol
Ohhh I have that! But my eyes are brown so it’s less contrast lol
I have amber eyes with brown limbal ring O_O cool! xD
How can one increase it? Since it’s a biological mechanism, if aging diminishes it
90s was interesting because normally grunge is high contrast but 90s was like low contrast grunge
Best Contrast for the Bodytype's?? 😊

I had to go back and watch the other 2 videos before this one. I feel like I had a class🤓 More on these subjects.
Would you make a video about the ethereal look (face and hair)? I can see it' s not about the contrast level, I simply can't figure out what creates such a look. Many thanx indeed!
I’m 0 and colored by hair to be an auburn from an dirty blonde. It looked so good just like you mentioned added just a little more contrast
Very useful video. Exactly what I was searching for
Happy new year Aly! Thank you for all your you tube contents, they are very interesting and helpful!!
1:55 Reese looks so nice there 😂
You have helped me so much over the years Ali. Thanks for sharing your knowledge so we can all be our best authentic selves. Happy new year, can’t wait for your 2020 content!
Please should we add or remouve contrast?
I love your videos so much! You are such a positive person, it's contagious!
I love this series; you actually made the 12 seasons thing make some sense by getting to the matter.
I love listening to you Aly, your voice is very soothing. 🕊
Please do which nail shapes work best for the kibbe body types 💅
Let me tell you now girl..science is amazing..thanks for all these informations
Hello! Could you talk about how piercings on your ear can be used to contour?
I love learning about skin coloration with you, it's so interesting 💖
You could do a video about eyebrows, they are still a mystery for me, the shapes, the contrast all about them..
Happy New Year guys ❤️
This is so interesting! Thank you!!!
Thanks for making all these fantastic videos. Happy new year from Denmark.
Happy New Year! Thanks so much for sharing your art!
I'm tired of being a muddy, muted, washed out ash tray. I need some contrast in my life!
Happy new year 2020 for u & family !!!💗
Been watching your channel for a long time. You put so much work into your videos, your channel is unique! Happy new year! :)
I absolutely love high contrast... I’m always drawn towards dark lipstick, i don’t even own a nude one...
Is there advice on the effect of contrast? I see how to change contrast, but what does more/less of it do? Change your attention level?
Спасибо, обожаю твои видео. У тебя классный английский!
Делаю тебе коротенькую вырезку об ободочке на глазах, которые ты называешь "Darker frame":
Dark circles or rings around the iris are known as LIMBAL RINGS. They appear as a dark border separating the iris from the whites of the eye. Considered to be a desirable fashion, they highlight the iris colour and make the whites look whiter, adding drama to the eye's appearance.
Wonderful perspective on this topic Aly.
Happy new year Aly! :)
I love this series :)
I’d love if you could talk a little more about latinas. I can’t identify myself with any of this ladies :( so is hard to guess what would be best for us! Btw, I’m a huge fan of yours! Love you! xx
Happy New Year!!
You could be an online stylist! We send in pics, you analyze with your expertise!
I really enjoy your videos! Thank you for all of the work that you put into them. Are there any examples of styles for the Romantic type that don't come off as mature? I'm having trouble finding anything that I would actually like to wear in the suggestions so far, but I definitely have round features and an hourglass shape.
Wow, great video! 😍 Thanks
So in love with your accent😍
I let my white gray hair grow out & it really reduced my contrast.
Michael did have vitiligo, which caused blotchy skin with white being more and more dominant as time went on. His autopsy confirmed it.
Can't wait to see you tackle the seasons!
OMG you are INCREDIBLE!!
wait so... what contrast SHOULD I STRIVE FOR?
I know I was trying to figure out which one was good! I think you just have to wear colors that match the contrast you have/will have
Thank you aly , I just want to know what's the next step , i mean after understanding this contrast thing, i want to know what suit me better as a +1, should i add contrast , is itokey to take off some of it ??
Thank you. This is such an interesting perspective. It works!
C Novim Godom!❄️✨🌟💥🎄
Best channel ever
I don’t understand why achieving contrast is so popular. I‘m something between -2 and -1 and creating a lot contrast with my make up and clothes makes me feel so fake. It may look very cool and modern, but it doesn’t look like me anymore. A good skincare, some rouge and concealer, maybe a liiiiittle bit brown mascara and I‘m good to go. In my outfits I avoid combinations like a white top an black skirt.
Video on Myers personality type & perfume based on the body types please
