JT you remind me so much of my dad, he was a welder by trade until in his late 40s he bought some land and went from part time farming to a full time farmer. I don't think we ever had a truck that he didn't build the grain bed for it or make them from single axle to tandem. He made his own gravity wagon , pretty much anything made of steel he could build it. Even built a 27 foot boat out of steel. But he never did body work . Anyway you and the way you do things really brings back some awesome memories. I'm 67 years old and I wish I would have stayed farming. So watching your videos gives me a chance to relive some of the good old days that I was to young and stubborn to enjoy 45 years ago.
yup, the animals were the priority. Not all sheds are good either-- my brother bought at an auction an immaculate low mile car stored in the dirt floor farm shed. he got it home and tried to jack up, the frame was 90% rusted and brittle. We think the fertilizer was kept nearby. This Nasty Massey is possibly rusty from being stored in an active livestock barn, and/or exposed to some other accelerant like fertilizer, manure, silage--some combo including lack of cleaning (some situations are futile to clean). it's gonna live the sweet life, now :)
Good job JT! Winter can be a tough time to get things done. Dodging winter storms, extreme cold weather, wind chill. That door was in tough shape! If i had a spare here i would have shipped it off to you. You would have had it in two days.
@@jtsbarnngrill6873 didn't notice but isn't there a bracket at the top that keeps the door from swinging all the way back and bending the hinge like it did? Those pieces get alot of use and are often times the first thing to wear out and break. Btw....Hate seeing you get rid of the Steiger but that's an early factory made unit that was built just a few miles from where I live near Fargo. If you could find one that was built even five years later it would be a huge improvement.
I'm glad to see that fluffy is still going strong, 😅 that door was quite the handful looks like. Daisy Duke was really something wasn't she. Thanks for Sharing. 😊
Another Great Video, J.T. Reminds me of painting equipment on the farm, at first with my uncle and then with my dad. They were not perfect when done, but looked a bunch better than before. Preparation made all the difference and a good paint system. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Great video. What sort of metal bird took a dump on that is a novel way of describing that welding and in fact it did look like a pile of cr@p!! It's definitely taking shape now. Really look forward to the finish tractor!😊
I really enjoy your videos and how you present them for us to watch. You explain why and what you are doing very clearly. When you get that old girl all fixed painted up new stack she will be another prize in your fleet of restorations.
Nothing more satisfying then making old equipment look good again. We have a 2675 massey, think I'm going to try and convince my old man to let me paint her up. Only has 3200 original hours. Heat and ac work 😮
Excellent video JT :) also you doing best with temperatures and weather do fully understand that too! Also JT to get those decals unpeeled of 2 things help if remember Straight razors men for shave faces they use back in 1970 plus early 1990's you change metal razors blades those work and one plastic handle scraper lawn mowers with get lawn clipping and coat bottom deck with help out or use butter knife use on table at meal time old ones! They work super but becarefull not get cutting fingers or hand on scrape decals of! Also use soft grip 400 grit sandpaper on primer scrubbing primer very lightly and then blow of air compressor blower and put paint to also put some clear shine cure paint and have sparkling shine !
Bout time u getting that de gone tractor finished. I was giving up hope. Just kidding looks really good. Look forward to ur videos about those tractors.
Primer looking real good , it’s even cold in the South right now , good job and it will be hot before we know it, and that Massey will be looking fine 👍🏻
A decent heat gun works pretty fast to get decals and tough paint off. I got a cheap one from Horrible Freight and it puts out pretty good heat. I’m not sure how long it’s gonna last but it was cheap and I don’t use it often. 👍
Hi from New Zealand! That 1105 will certainly look a 100% better than it did JT! Love what do & appreciate what is involved in fixing & restoring old tractors! I can relate to this as I've been restoring an old Massey Ferguson 165 myself!
Thank you for verifying my claims about the paint stripper!!! It seemed through the years since the late 90s it got weaker and weaker. I love the channel!! Keep up the good work
JT something you may have already tried for paint removal is EZ-OFF oven cleaner in the yellow can. It is also great for removing grease and dirt. But will also take paint with it. I used it one time on an ole pickup truck bed and paint washed off with low pressure garden hose. Some paints are harder than others to remove. Just be sure to wear eye and lung protection when spraying and don't spray when wind is blowing at you. Looking forward to watching the rest of the project. Stay warm and stay safe.
Might want to find a way to cover the glass when ya weld close to it JT. Those little cherry bbs will stick to the glass and make everything from scraping ice to cleaning windows a reminder of when you welded on that fine day…
Hey JT, next week will warm up quite a bit. My front fenders are waiting patiently for the snow to stop and weather to get out of the single didgets so I can resume patching rust and beating dents. I'm still clearing snow but at least the power didn't go off. The things we do for fun 😅
About the time some of the snow we got Sunday and Monday started to melt we get hit with freezing rain where i live we got between 4 and 5 inches of snow they pretty much shut down everything! Any way looking good so far will have to let my little girl watch the video so she can see Fluffy!
Hey JT doing a great job my only advice is to do what took me forever to do also invest in a auto darkening welding mask I picked mine up at harbor freight for like 40 bucks well worth the investment sure did help me run off all those metal birds as always thanks for sharing
@@jtsbarnngrill6873 I have one of those JT and it really turns welding into a much easier experience! Horrible Freight, as one other commenter called it, has them and they work just fine! Note: this is not in any way an endorsement of Horrible Freight! In most cases they suc.
Nice one j.t. those doors are not easy to work on. I think all the strength is in the glass. The D cals didn't look to bad on video. Like you say all the good stuff we used to get for doing jobs it's no good. Even redoxied paint is not as good anymore same with hammer right. Even the spray for the field is no good. On one good note you just saved 300 to go towards the combin. Good job. From Andy in uk
@jtsbarnngrill6873 that's one thing when you got some much stuff to maintain you got to try save some money. I all ways on the look at any places I went farms anywhere I used walk around even if you could pick up a bit metal any thing I all ways asked. 9 times out 10 they say ya take it. Man that saved me a lot money. L.o.l catch you on Sunday
I use the Axalta imron 2.8PR. It’s actually a urethane, I’ve been calling it epoxy out of habit from when the old DuPont imron primers were epoxy. It’s still the best in my opinion for what I do. Great for bare metal/rust, fills and sands very well. Excellent corrosion resistance. As far as primers go, it’s more affordable than regular 2 part primers that do nothing on bare metal or corrosion resistance
Hey JT when you got the 4420 did you have to fix the air conditioning or did the air conditioning. I know this doesn't go along with the Massey Ferguson 1105 restoration project but I was just something I was wondering
That remover spray seemed to have done a good job of softening the adhesive on those decals Joe, did it leave a dry surface or was there still some sticky stuff to remove before sanding?
Like all good things, they water it down till it’s almost useless. Some people should never have welders, they have the heat turned down and definitely looks like a bird shit on it and won’t hold anything
Great work!👍
Thank you! 👍

I’ve not tried Ez off for paint removal, but I’ll give it a shot. It works great on degreasing, might not hurt to keep a can or two in stock here!
I would tell you how to remove the glass from that door... but seems not ready to do that
Try using a heat gun for removing the decal it softens the glue thats what i use .

Their are rust removers that you can paint over, they turn the rust to black. Remove the oxygen.
I’m surprised you could get the temp over 50 in the shop with the outside trying to get in the little gaps in the old shop doors.

Put plastic wrap on top of that paint stripper. It helps it out to not evaporate too fast. Keep all the toxic goodness where it needs to be.

I think I can do that at some point

It did the job, maybe better than I expected. Just not as good as it once was. There was a little stuff left but laquer thinner took that away.

i used rust converter on mine. the white milky stuff. I killed the rust and then I sanded it off. My MF looks like new!
