Appreciate the work.... We're very lucky to have you in the community. Nice weekend and thanks again... 👍
Thanks so much 😊🙏
The Castors are incredible value indeed!
Really appreciate these shootouts and the hard work! 👍
Thank you for the effort ✌👌
Thanks so much 🙏
Great review, thankyou for taking the time. Got silver Castor, seems like I need to get the black one as well.
Castor Bass version sounds fun to the ear, I will purchase that, thanks for the review mr Monk sir👍
Very welcome I hoped it helped you out.
Thanks for the time and effort you put into this video. I'm definitely not audiophile material, just like good sound for listening to my Apple Music ( with an inexpensive dongle). So the Castor bass sounds perfect for me🙂
Interestingly enough, my first reaction to the name was Castor oil! While not as painful as your suggestion, it's still pretty unpleasant 😛
I think we'll call the name a fail!
Again, thanks for your efforts here.
Great job sir
This is the type of comparison we need in this community. Its sure to portray what could lead people to understand much about ehat they're bout to purchase.
Thanks for the kind words much appreciated ☺️
bought already a Castor - Bass version, and while it's coming to me - I am watching videos to make sure that I made a correct choice. After this Video I feel again that I made a correct choice, I personally own KZ EDX PRO and it's sounds fantastic for 12 bucks that I paid for them 2 years ago, now I bought Castor for the same price and they seem to look and sound a way better. Especially Design of Castors - it's sooo goood! They look like IEM for 100$.. really like this minimalistic design.
Right on! Castor Bass I'd great and CCA Trio
Great work 👍👏💪
Thank you 🙌
Great review and comparison!!! Considering the Castors $15 price, especially the Bass version keeping up with iems priced at more than three times, is really a no brainer for value. My Castor Bass is on order and very excited to hear them.
I love that IEM great value congratulations and enjoy
Wachting your reviews from Spain, great job!, I 've just order the Castor's HarmanBass!
Good choice!
KZ has been stepping on some big boys feet lately. Great review and wonderful comparisons. I think I am going to go for the Juzear Clear. I’ll message you over on the Shortbus about the mod you did to it. Your preferences seem to be very similar to mine.
Hey man, nice seeing you here! I'm considering buying the castor bass myself as the z300 felt too laid back haha! Let me know how the Juzear Clear sound for you.
@@zish3655 Will do. It will be 2-3 weeks getting here. Really looking forward to their arrival.
Thanks nice work 👍
Thanks so much 🙏
I share your opinions on the Castor standard....
I have it and was feeling bad with the pinna gain + highs level. I had to retune them, very easy operation once you can open the shell (air gun comes handy). By simply changing the 10 mm dampener for a Y3/350/400, the bass curve keeps the same shape (so not the tucked style of the Castor bass) and the good setting is when the sub bass max level is at the level of the max pinna gain. I tried some tricks on the PCB filter for regulating the treble, but it's only a marginal effect and not worth the pain. After all, better to use the switches.
With UUDD, and KB07 (the OG foam tips kill the highs) it finishes by sounding nicely considering the price.
But, the best move is to buy directly the Bass version.
Yeah I’m
Not a fan of foams (unless you cut them down). They just cripple the highs and muffle everything. Cutting them helps 100%, but it’s still foam .
Wow tons of mods great job. Bass Version works I still threw a 500 level mesh filter over the nozzle.
@@tonedeafmonk good to know 👍
@@Hijynx87 I thought I was the only one who thought foams even muffle the bass. I used to love foam until I discovered tip rolling. Now I rarely use foam. Gotta say they do make a good seal but at the expense of a veil being put over the sound.
@@tonedeafmonk Is micropore = to 450 filter? Saw that on someone's squig and it's good to know if it's true since that's what I've been modding with.
Mantap 👍
I love the zero red, it’s pretty close to er2xr with a bass boost (to my ears) but not as detailed. With cp155 tips, but I use clarions for comfort.
A great set looking forward to the upcoming 1+4 from Truthear
KZ ,bringing great audio, for people like myself, and others who luv ,there, kz zzz!! Nice review ..figure it this way..you get not just 1, buttt! 2 iems, with switches, that really change the audible sound, for less then 30 bucks...KZ doing great things again!! Oh yeaahhh
Thanks for listening to the video
May I know what kind of filters the Castors use? I had issues with glue (I think it's glue; not sticky though) leaks from KZ IEMs and if the filter is made out of cloth the glue sticks to the filter causing a huge loss in volume. My ZVX right now even has a glue leak and because the filter is made out of metal the glue doesn't stick to it. I just wipe the filter with a microfiber cloth and the volume loss gets resolved.
P.S. I suggest you include the word "KZ Castor" to the title of the video.
Bought the Castor Bass, I love it. Wish future versions of KZ IEMs get smaller but with ZAT they're going the other way 😂
Kz castor bass Vs sgor adonis, which one should i buy (they said the cable it self in sgor is so much value for money)? My previous iem a bit attacky in my ear in high frequency
Thanks for another awesome review! I watch all of your videos. The blue cable you are using on two of the iems looks really nice, what is it ?
Greetings from Germany ;-)
One is a ISN H2 Cable the others are from AliExpress a.aliexpress.com/_m0tLmQq
Did I miss the Juzear Clear review.. was wondering what mod you used on the squig retune plot ?
Thank you Tone Deaf Monk for all the great reviews! Could you suggest me the best IEM among Castor, Polaris and QKZ x HBB? or any alternatives for a rock n' roll, guitar and male vocal centric listener in this price point?
I would say Castor Bass version
@@tonedeafmonk Thanks for the reply! Actually, I am fed up with PR2 for its performance with old recordings and distortion especially. Practicing guitar wearing PR2 feels horrible! So, after a lot of search I found Castor, Wa'er and QKZ x HBB to be some suitable budget alternative options for my need.
Do you think Qudelix 5k and Cayin RU6 can drive the Clears properly (power and current wise) single ended on moderate listening volume (around 70db) or is it worth to go balanced?
Yeah no problem great choice
I’ll have to try the castor black lol. How is it compared to the legato with wide bores?
Way bigger bass and nicer highs and mids
I have a Salnotes Zero, I'm thinking of getting the KZ Castor. Do you think it would be an evolution? How do they compare? A hug from Brazil 🇧🇷
Another IEM I haven't heard , but great things are said about the Zero. I would buy the Castor for a fun bassy set maybe something different to what you have.
Great video!
I'm looking for basshead set under 50$,
I'm confused between Castor bass, Rosefinch, Juzear Clear, and KZ ESX.
Which one do you suggest?
(considering bass quality and quantity, subbass rumble, clarity in mids, vocals/tonality)
Castor Bass os still the one to beat IMO
Kz vader balanced/cca trio. They are so pleasent to listen too. after listening to a treblehead iem like trn conch. CCA trio/kz balanced is like upgraded version of castor bass.
@@georgepierre3594 castor or trio does not really get to the real basshead levels (like rosefinch, clear, zar, esx, or zna)
7h zero vs kz castor which one you pick and why ,what reasons?
Are you planning on reviewing the dunu falcon ultra? Or is that not on the table? It’s good I think you’d dig it.
On my radar definitely want to get that one.!
Revisiting this video, need to ask.. Is the cca trio or the Vader balanced any sort of upgrade to the Castor black? Will buy one of these. Thanks..
I would still pick a black
@@tonedeafmonk Ok thanks.. Btw I am from Vancouver..
What are the tips that you used for castor black
I believe the JVC FX10 Spiral Dots
Had all the zero and sent them all back I will be getting the Kz in the next week
Castor Blaster for the win!
Could you advice me in castor bass vs tanchjim one vs chu 2(not confident on this one to compete so it is the prior two only) ?
Chu is smooth fixed the bass , weak in the highs so not a all rounder, One great sounding , DSP and amp is simply fantastic takes a EQ like a champ. Castor Bass has not only pounding bass but the nicest mids and highs and it's tunable easy win out of the 3.
@@tonedeafmonk how can have two people have such a polarisation in what sound better.
I was checking "jay audio" channel. He has a ranking list of iems (description on any video). Where he put castor on very low quality in comparison to tanchjim one.
Did you end up throwing any impedance adapters on the KZ Castor Black? Seeing as it's Dual DD like the Truthear Zero it would probably have a similar effect. Loved the comparisons you made in the video.
I didn't I should
@tonedeafmonk If you try it I would love to hear the results
@@honeyblunt5150 I will thanks
How does KZ Castor compare to the QKZ HBB overall and especially for bass?
Better tuned better quality mids and treble on the Castor Bass
ya the qkkz x hbb have a lot of bass, but its very muddy bass that hits to far of my comfort zone. sounds great for movie. but these do gaming and imaging on the same level. as the qkz x hbb.
Can Castor standard be EQed to sound similar or as fun as the bass version?
Not sure if that possible with the switches but maybe?
I love castor but it suffers distortion in high volume level. Morethan what the drivers are capable of producing. Does the clear suffers on that too?
I'm not sure never pushed it that hard your a animal!
What's the filter size to get for the castor? Couldn't find it on the video.
5mm is the one I used
@@tonedeafmonk Thank you for the prompt response! although after hours of search I was unable to find anything above 4.5mm.
The modded version seemed really good.
Being a bass player should i buy this or find a balanced signature one?
Castor bass 100%
Hi bro I have been searching for answers everywhere and the algorithm brings me here. Question is which is bigger in size the both castors. I always buy IEM impulsively. One day I found out I got 2 sets (black) and one of them is different in size. I can’t tell which is which. I gave the smaller one away and hoping the bigger one is the bass version. Hope you have an answer.
They were the same size the Bass Version was drak Grey metallic and the Harmon was silvery
@@tonedeafmonk hmmmm what did I just got myself then? Both black same model and one set bigger than the other 🤔, could you try compare both their sizes when you have time?
It's Castor Harman, and Castor Bass... Cheers...
No it's the Castor Blaster and the other one!
what's the mod you did to the juzear clear to smooth the treble a bit? ive seen people refer to that in comments and whatnot but i somehow either cant find the video featuring it or i keep zoning out when it's mentioned
I buy some 500 level nozzle filters from AliExpress cheap and easy and some foam works good sometimes as well.
a.aliexpress.com/_mtS9BBu
@@tonedeafmonk thanks a ton!
btw, i got the epz q1 pros as per your recommendation from a comment i left on a different video and i really love them. they sound great with a fresh tuning compared to the rest of my sets, they fit my ears like a glove, and they look even prettier in person.
the juzear clears are next on my purchase list, so i will be sure to buy those filters with them when the time comes - thanks again for your help :)
@@tonedeafmonk just to clarify, is the 4mm one the right option for the juzear clears, or do they need a different size?
Probably go 4.5 or 4.8mm @@Habanecro
Does it have a slow vent?
Nice shootout! What's the Juzear Clear mod?
Was a bit more advanced with med density tuning foam and white mesh filter under the grill and a med density cotton filter over the grill.
@@tonedeafmonk Thx!
I already have that stuff. I’ll give it a go once I get my set in.
How do you compare it with tangzu waner?
Never heard that one sorry
How does Castor bass edition compare to KBEAR Rosefinch?
A better buy IMHO the Rosefinch without serious filters has a harsh top end where the Castor has a nice smooth treble
@@tonedeafmonk100% agree on this. The Rosefinch had an uncomfortable spike @8k that was very sibilant (for me). The Castor Bass in contrast has really nice controlled non-sibilant sparkling treble.
Wow system u've got there..my endgame system for IEM just an old Q5S TC (dual AKM4493 which in RMEadi2 + dual THX aaa As amp modules) + MT604..yup tubes sir U should gives those most sensitive transducer (IEM) a fair judgement= heaven is it?..btw castor awesome 15 investment..Peace sir ..try tubes.
I have The MT604 and Loxji P20 Tube amps with upgraded tubes just don't use much as * should good rec.
Dats wutz audiophiles do, always buyin things without stop.. But me an economical audiophiliacs Only 1 endgame system for iem. N self tunin iem as a match. Done.. Peace!
Would the castor black be a better choice than waner?
For a bass monster yes
Thanks for the effort for the review, how would you compare the Krila to the Castor? (bass, air)wise
Good question! Never bought that one not happy with the hype from KZ
Do you think one of these is good for gaming?
I don't game sorry maybe someone else can chime in?
Me watching this after getting castor standard
Sorry love the bass version too much LOL
@@tonedeafmonk fair enough....I'll probably grab it too
for how much you recommend the ZVX, mine was total crap. i would advise against KZ QC.
ChiFi , I have been overwhelmingly lucky on my journey, I hope KZ did a replacement without any hassle for you.!
My ZVX is decent but he's right about it not holding weight against Castor. My brothers D-fi non switch is definitely a lemon. KZ supposedly has great QC so I was surprised. Maybe, just maybe they send out hand picked stuff for reviewers and others are getting lucky. I told him to contact them for a replacement but he hasn't. Just collecting dust sadly. It's not mine and I have too many better sets to be bothered.
Hi.. what cables and tips did you use for the reds?
Nicehck Meet Alice & KBEAR 07 tips
@@tonedeafmonk thank you
I tried using the TRN clarion which are wide bore seems ok. Also tried the JVC spiral++ which are also wide bore.. the bass and highs seemed controlled and mids actually sounded better. I also tried the JVC spiral++ with the simgot ew200 as you recommended. But I find the new clear tips of final e with it . I found it to be more open. But thanks for your inputs I learned a lot.
I was wondering if the kbear 07 can fit the large nozzles of the red since it's only 4.4 cm. Only the TRn and JVC spiral can fit with those nozzle sizes. Type e wouldn't even fit it..
@@boyseverino528 yess, I also like final type E more than aet 08 on my EW200.... Sound perfect to me, but I must upsize to L size to get great seal 😅 I usually use M eartips like KZ DFI, SGOR Adonis or HBB Khan... You can look Spinfit CP155 for Large Nozzle IEM

Sir help me gv me 2/3 ur best Recommended for IEM under 60bucks for Pop music good vocal allrounded
EA500 Simgot
Why have u changed the cable
Because of my mood.
Does it have good driver? Can i EQ it?
I haven't tried but why not
Hey Nathanel. I thought of you when I got this today. You will LOVE it. May not need EQ with the switches. Though you're like me with EQ, I'm sure it will be fun to play with! Z2 still treating ya well? That one still holding up against all my IEMs.
@@someoneusa EQ'ing the Z2 is just so much fun I can't stop ahaha. But for now I am settled with 3 EQ preset : Fatfreq Maestro mini (eq range 20-1.5khz) for Basshead, Harman target (20-800hz) and Quarks DSP (manual eq 800- 3khz) for clean sound, and MiM Dark Magician OG for vocals (20 - 6khz). I use Ian Fann squiglink and I lower pre amplifying value the same as the highest boosted frequency to avoid clipping. I was thinking of getting the Castor because I think it has better treble to EQ than Z2 which has big treble dips.
@@someoneusa I also EQ the 7Hz Zero but it has very bad driver it can only handle 2db bass boost. Meanwhile the Z2 can handle Maestro Mini bass boost. Can you try EQ the castor if it can handle EQ like the Z2, if not I'm happy with the Z2. Oh yeah, look up Hi-Fri Audio teardown of CVJ TXS and CVJ Freedom I noticed the dynamic driver looks the same as Z2 . Maybe these 2 can handle bass boost like the Z2 did.
@@nathanel7637 I just put RF, Z2, CSTR on splitter and rotated throughout songs- all 3 have micropore tape on 2/3 of nozzle, no amp though the splitter seems to amp up the sound a bit. Castor needs the most power in order to sound prime. Z2 barely needs any power. RF is in the middle, sounds good but sounds even better the more power it gets. RF takes the bass quality, quantity, it's just really, really fckn amazing bass. Z2 sounds closer to RF, slightly brighter. It's literally a mini RF. Castr has best mids, though with tape on RF mids sound good to me for the bass it's putting out. Z2 has the most bleed, sounds the thickest which isn't a bad thing. I kept the RF on but that could be because I listened to CSTR and Z2 a lot yesterday or maybe I just like the sound the best, even I can't tell ya that at the mo. All 3 are great for different things. I didn't bother with ZEX since it's got it's own unique sound. It's got mids like CSTR but more mid base focused and I love the EST sound. As a basshead on a budget, these 4 are different enough to own all of them. I got all 4 for under $45. Got upgrade cables on sale, probably avg $8-9 each. RF has NiceHck pure silver w/TriClarion extra wide bore tips. Z2/CSTR on NiceHck single crystal copper cable w/Trn wide bore T-tips. I'd pick the ZEX or the CSTR as your next set based on if you prefer a thicker mid-bass/mids or sub-bass focused, leaner sound with clearer mids. And when you can afford the next one, I'd shoot for RF :) I'll let you know about the Galaxy MS1 when I get it but I don't expect it to beat RF. Graphs almost the same but with less bass. I'm still experimenting with mods on the RF. BTW I'm getting really good bass out of the v80 finally :)
Too bad you don't have the Truthear Zero "blue" to make the comparison. I bought both versions of the KZ Castor. It's cheap so I'll try both hahaha
You can make the red do the bass of the blue with a 30ohm adapter tried that still prefer the Castor Blaster!
