  • Which is the king of the 4X4’s? Decades of development and a no compromise build quality or advanced technology that just keeps evolving?
    I have been given the opportunity to drive two cars that fall into my dream category. I look inside and out and importantly check to see which is best to tow with.
    A look at a lottery winning dilemma. Which one would you choose?

    Let's face it, the days of the gas/diesel car/truck are fast approaching obsolescence, and I shudder to think of what you might be offered for your V8 range rover in about another 5 years, no one will want them or be rich enough to pay to run them. What about the mpg of the RR pulling 2 horses? 12 mpg? I shudder at the cost and then there is the cost of annual maintenance. My Model X is 21 months old and still no need for a check up - so cheap to run 360Km costs me $7 Canadian (4 pounds?) and that is if I have to pay for the electricity; and on long runs it is all superchargers and FREE.
    Great Video Ryan, keep them coming. How about a video comparing tyre and brake costs of 2 vehicles like thse?

      "What about the mpg of the RR pulling 2 horses? 12 mpg? "? I usually get about 20 mpg pulling my daughters horsebox with her 17.2 hands Showjumper in it and I have a range of 400 miles or so. You just couldn't do that in a Tesla.

    I think you said the MX was 0.3metres wider than the Range Rover. I would always favour an EV simply because it is better for our future. However, 0.3 metres in width does not make it 'almost the same size'. I don't know what countryside you live near, but 0.3m is virtually 12 inches (1 foot) wider. In Dorset with the narrow lanes, 12 inches is the difference between passing an oncoming car or vanishing through a hedge to avoid a nasty collision!

    • @EVOpinion
      @EVOpinion  5 років тому +1

      michaelahall2 I guess size is relative 😳. Both cars are big and living in Dorset I have driven both along some very narrow lanes. They are big but hide it deceptively well. I suppose if you are worried about the width then avoid either of these 😁👍

    Fabulous looking cars, I would have leased an X but the figures didn’t add up, that’s if you can make sense of them. We opted for the Rangerover Sport PHEV p400d which will be all,electric for our local daily trips plus able to tow the caravan on weekends and holidays. Couldn’t lease one from Landrover, just too expensive but leasing from on-line finance houses was a doddle so bye, bye diesel Evoque (which Landrover wouldn’t take in P/X even though it came from their group) and hello PHEV. I reckon by the time the lease runs out in 2023/24 Rangerover will be fully electric or the X pricing will make financial sense.

    • @dougowt
      @dougowt 5 років тому

      Steve W that’s valid if you need to tow 3.5 tonnes a long way. But if you’re towing up to 2.75 tonnes then the torque of the Tesla will be an easy choice for me. And the cost of any trip will be vastly cheaper in the model X. Maintenance again, much cheaper with the Tesla. I’d like to know what the towing capacity of the X is with smaller wheels ie bigger profile tyres. You need more air if you’re going to carry heavy loads, the 20” rims aren’t the best option for a work horse.

    The kids in the back will have their smartphones and devices to watch something on and that works just fine.in fact, using smartphones may be preferable because they have so much portability and multi-functionality whereas the devices that are mounted into these seats only do one thing. Again, it was a nice idea for its time but it is the old way of thinking.

    Yes, honest. It is important that everybody recognizes and understands the tremendous arm that comes from the tailpipe of internal combustion engine vehicles, especially diesel vehicles.remember, if you shot yourself in a garage with one of these things and it is running for 20 or 30 minutes you will likely die due to the noxious fumes. Just because it is not in a garage or most of the time it is running does not mean that it is not dangerous. We all swim in the same fish bowl, so to speak, and we all have to breathe the same air, so that's not fill it up with a bunch of disgusting pollution that chokes us all out, gives us cancer and increases healthcare costs by billions of dollars all the while killing us prematurely and slowly. This is a preventable problem. I realize there is atransition. But that. Could read dramatically shortened and we will all be better off for it. So I say keep the special effects in the video with fumes/PM 2.5 spewing out of the back of the ICE vehicle. It gets the point across.

  • @aaronbounds1336
    @aaronbounds1336 5 років тому +1

    In terms of luxuryI agree that the range Rover is more luxurious and probably slightly better made. However, one must consider the impact on the rest of the world of the interior. The Model X probably has an interior that has a lower carbon impact and is less harmful in its production then they range Rover. For that reason, I would choose the model X interior. Not because it's better but because it is better (from a bird's eye view, so to speak; big picture), if that makes sense. I think it is a small sacrifice to make up for not much benefit.
    as far as just taking out the internal combustion engine of the range Rover and tossing in some batteries and an electric motor, I wish it were that simple.it is well known that Tesla is at least 7 and probably more like 10 years out of the competition in terms of their propulsion system. Not that other manufacturers can't make a propulsion system, they can, but when you look at the Jaguar I pace, for example, it is just so much less efficient then any Tesla vehicle. if you put the same battery pack in the range Rover as they model X has it would probably get 40% less range because of the huge difference in drag coefficient and much heavier design with traditional steel and the like. It's really not a fair comparison because the range Rover wasbuilt on old technology and decades-old way of thinking where has a Tesla Model X is built from the ground up to be an electric vehicle. If you just swap out the batteries and tossing a motor or two then you're so going to have a vehicle that is extremely heavy and kind of like driving a brick through the air. It just not going to be that good.

    I will take the Range Rover any day I bet that model x can't cross that field if it was to rain and if it freezes over the doors don't open. The air intake at the front that goes directly to the massively expensive filter is prone to mice crawling up there and eating away at it and you guessed it tesla won't cover that under the warranty. The coolant tank level for the batteries is hidden under panels that you can't remove with out voiding the warranty you have to take it to tesla for a simple coolant level check something that should be accessible to the driver. If they went to a well established car maker and put there heads together it could be so much more.

    This is basically nonsense. No sane person would pull a fully laden horsebox with a vehicle limited to 2.2 tonnes and a range of 100 miles and compare it to a RR - unless you're pulling a garden trailer loaded with a rocking horse. The unladen weight of our trailer is 1.6 tonnes and my daughter's nag weighs in at about 600 kg and we often do round trips of more than 100 miles. Add water, tack and the paraphernalia associated with a long day's showjumping and we couldn't even leave the yard if we used a Tesla.
    My RR 4.4 SDV8 can easily pull the above, we can also take another horse (and often do) with minimal effort and have a range of 350-400 miles which makes round-trips anxiety-free. You're comparing apples and pears here, mate.

    I normally like your videos and this was a good one BUT your conclusion was so obviously biased it's untrue... Apart from the lack of a gearbox in the Model X the RR smokes it just about everywhere (yes smoke pun intended). I know EV's are the future and I love tech but but that Model X interior looks dark, bland and depressing compared to the RR... In fact watching the video it looks like Tesla has just thrown some deckchairs in the back...! You should have compared the model X to something a lot more basic but I guess for the cost of the Tesla you can't... When you see some of the EV designs coming from other car makers it's clear that Tesla needs to up their game - Does anyone really get excited when they see a Tesla in the flesh? I know I don't...

      Eh? Mine has over 100,000 miles on the clock and has never broken down. I know lots of people who, like me, use Range Rovers or Discoveries to pull horseboxes and they are tremendous for the job. What's your own experience?
