  • I suppose this is sort of part 3 looking at the Audi E-Tron and the Tesla Model X 75D. Comparing and contrasting the various features of the two cars, as they appear to me, over the course of around 1,000 miles each.

A very nice comparison. I've had the MX100D for 21 months (49,900 miles) after having the MS75D for 26 months (61,000 miles). The only thing I liked better was the sportier look of the S. I've driven over 100 different vehicles in the last 52 years and would trade the X for none of them. It IS a better EV/car/everything.

Just saw two modifications for the Model X. 1st one sets up the frunk lid to open and go all the way open without touching it. When you close it the lid goes all the way down the laches and it pulls itself closed. No more putting your hands to each side and pushing evenly so as not to bend the hood . Just uses the fob, app. or dashboard like normal. 2nd is a foot sensor to open the rear hatchback again without touching the car. Works just like normal plus it senses your foot under rear of car and opens. Now this one will make me happy after shopping holding bags. I guess it knows your fob is near and activates foot sensor to see if your giving it a quick kick.... ;)
The one thing that not only annoys me plus it has almost caused me serious problems are my side mirrors on my X. I had added small little round stick on mirrors and these did not really do the job. The extra effort to really look into the little mirrors and see if I was clear almost was not worth the effort compared to really turning my head and twisting to see if I had traffic. Later I replaced it with a long thin mirror about a inch high and went side to side of mirrors. These were very good, but they had a tilt feature to adjust it up/down and tilt a bit in/out. But go and use a automatic car wash and one would need to get out and adjust them back and it fiddly and takes a few times to get it right again.
Found a excellent solution with a full glass mirror replacement that removes the flat glass mirror with a slightly curved ones. They give you much more viewing area. You adjust them all the way out and you will see some of the side of your car and all the way out almost another lanes worth over stock. The new mirrors also have the heaters in them so all that still works.
These modes are ordered and will be added as soon as I can get them here. Just saying these would be nice from Tesla and should at least be added to any refresh that might happen to a new fully loaded model x.

Your model S and your excellent battery management actually taught me I was not doing my x's battery any favors. I would plug in at home and just charge to 90% because I had heard Elon say it more than a few times. I started see my % dropping a mile here and another over there compared to your stories where you had a higher state of charge with a year older car. I started charging to 55% for my daily charge and would use my app to bump it up if I knew we were going to need more miles the next day. After doing this for a year and some my battery SOC is now larger by 3 to 4 miles than I had before. Thanks again to you and I was watching Chris the guy with two boys and a black model S. I think he ended up getting another model S after all the problems he was having.
So I just had a run a few days ago where it got closer than I have ever done before to zero charge and then did a 100% charge to balance pack and see if I had lost anything. To my surprise I saw that 4 extra miles. Our 90 pack would charge to 253 miles when new, here now after 4 1/2 years I just got 234 miles. So 5 miles a year for 4 + years I guess is about normal.
Hoping batteryday will give a glimpse into seeing if maybe a longer range upgrade might be in my future. I already know that we can have the 100 pack installed, just hoping for 100 miles more or so for the extra money for an upgrade.

You should see battery degradation in terms of capacity slow down as the years roll by, but one thing that I've noticed is the battery can now supply less power, for less time (so slightly slower acceleration) and the quick charging definitely takes longer and tails off at a lower %.
Still, no matter how carefully one looks after their battery, it will age (at least these wet batteries will anyway)

@@JamesCookeVlogs As I have stated before, you have schooled me on battery care and what you just said I am seeing. Having Ludicrous was so strong that first year. 4 adults acting like kids would feel a big head rush at launch. Totally Awesome. Now not so much. Maybe 2 people can get that feeling but 4 is out now. In fact I find myself surprised when I feel it now. I'll be keeping my X for ever and will run out my 8 year warranty before upgrading looking for the best chemistry that 8 years can bring. However, I will be sifting through battery day for any hope on getting anything bigger that the 4 year old 100kwh pack. That would be a 8 year old technology upgrade and not ideal after all that waiting and maybe a max of 303 miles. That is only 45 miles more than the fresh 90 pack.

I have a 2017 Model X 75D and I love it. Peoples issues with AP are very subjective I've found. Sure it does phantom break every now and then and with some it happens more than others but you always have to be prepared to take over no matter what. That being said I use it everyday and I'm very comfortable using it and I feel very confident in it. You have to know when and where to use it of course. I mainly use it for highway driving and use it in the middle lanes. Every now and then I use it in other situations but I find it works best when youre in the middle lanes. My only real issue is I wish the Model X could work with the Tesla App so that you could remote access it i.e. Model 3/Y. Instead you must have the key fob with you to access the car.

The regular automakers are taking a cautious position on battery capacity, assigning larger top and bottom buffers to the battery, so less range capacity is available. I think they will overtime make more of the battery available for actual driving range.

Interesting that in 6 years we now have the same model. I agree with your observations in part. Self driving on freeways or multi lane roads is really where all this works well. In 4 1/2 years I had to react a bit more than a few times to the Model X getting spooked by something. Kind of like riding a horse. It becomes a relationship rather than just a car. Where things get even more interesting is on small two lane twisty roads. All be it Tesla does not suggest using self diving in those environments. I like the insight of you saying the other car let you maneuver around a pothole. Yes that would feel a bit more natural, but I am not sure how much I would trust it with what or over what I have now.

Phantom braking is the number one reason I rarely use auto pilot on highways, which sadly takes the joy out of owning a Tesla as it kinda defeats the point. How can you enjoy it when you know the car can freak out at any given moment without any reason, and that too at high speeds.

    • @Ivdag
      @Ivdag 4 роки тому +3

So true! I don't use ACC/autopilot for that exact reason. It feels like going backwards as even fairly budget cars have ACC which doesn't phantom brake. So frustrating that I've found myself wishing for a dumb cruise control in a Tesla. It feels like being forced to pay for a 5K option which is useless, can't imagine how people who paid for FSD feel.

    • @chrisabbott683

Google Reviewer I absolutely agree. I’m becoming ever more wary of using Autopilot on my Model 3 LR FSD. I simply don’t trust it due to the admittedly occasional (but that’s too often) phantom braking and the way it veers away unexpectedly and unnecessarily from trucks on the motorway. I’m sure drivers must think they’re following a drunk when this happens. And I’m becoming ever more fearful of a rear-end shunt. Latest OTA update a few days ago included ‘auto stop on traffic lights’. I’m way too chicken to try that until I see plenty of evidence from other UK based You Tubers telling us it’s 100% reliable.

It obviously isn’t ready to turn over to the car completely. No one is claiming that. However, the data shows that driving with autopilot engaged you are several times less likely to get in an accident compared to without it. Perhaps a human might not do what you described (although I have often seen them brake for no apparent reason) but they certainly do all kinds of other things that are as bad or worse. Fall asleep, read or text, drive under the influence just to name a few. And as far as what happened to you, you are failing to take into account the myriad of cases where autopilot braked or swerved to avoid something before the driver saw or reacted. It happens many times everyday and probably orders of magnitude more often than braking for no reason.

      Andy Campbell
This is the fallacious argument that the data are skewed in favor of autopilot because autopilot is only used on freeways and freeway driving is inherently safer than driving on all roadways. The problem with that argument is that in the United States autopilot is used on all roadways. There are no restrictions. Could Tesla be more transparent and break out more categories of data released to the public? Sure they could but they along with every other private corporation on planet are not known for transparency. I am fairly certain that the data they turn over to regulators will be quite granular. If it is not they will have difficulties getting approval. So far the regulators (again u.s.) seem to agree with Tesla as to lower accident rate with autopilot. Hells bells the accident rate is even lower in a Tesla without autopilot engaged. Unless of course you are James Cooke and then your Tesla is involved in an accident about once a month! 😜
