Honestly this was my favorite game in the Survivor trilogy. Gameplay was really fun, I thought the story was an improvement over the first (still about as predictable but I liked the story having a more personal touch to it), beautiful graphics, Bloodlines was a really interesting side story DLC, Endurance was a fun little side mode, all in all I thought it was a great experience. Just a shame Shadow didn't really follow up as well despite having great stealth improvements.
Honestly, the first game is the strongest. It had a fun blend of exploration, combat and puzzles, instead of this which is just puzzles galore. Plus I remember the first more, but that might be because it was the first game I ever played.
The classic skins improve my interest from 0 to 100 in an instant. Seriously, just look at that smooth low-polygon model, hottest shit I've ever seen in a long time.
I think it's funny that he plays these games and doesn't play the tombs, in a series called tomb raider. They are arguably one if the better parts of these games. The dlc tombs are also all nice.

I think it's even more funny that a series called Tomb Raider decided to leave the tombs as side content rather than having them be the main objective. And it's EVEN more funny to think that raiding tombs use to be the main objective before the reboot.

A little uncharted climbing is cool, adds some variety from just stairs and flat rooms and whatnot. But I'd say no more than 5 mins of climbing per hour of gameplay. Cause I gotta agree with oboe, even though I do like exploration in games, I didn't buy a shooter to platform for hal the game lol.
Now that I think of it, even though it was annoying and didn't fit the game well IMO, Doom Eternal had the correct ration of combat to climbing more or less
Platforming can be fun as long as it just uses a set of abilities, rather than simply looking for the correctly marked ledge/surface to hold on to then making your way to the next one. Like Elden Ring has decent platforming because it requires problem solving and precision.

Language skills do in fact level up your shotgun skills. You use the skills to find the hidden stuff that you use to upgrade the shotgun. It also works in real life as well, it is way faster and cheaper to get the shotguns from the Romanians in stead of dealing with Germany ;)
I like Uncharted climbing but not in a vacuum, when done well it makes you think more critically about the environments you're traversing and it also allows for tension to build or to relieve tension depending on how it's implemented.
If you loved the combat, you should do a video on the expeditions - cold endurance and the nightmare in the mansion especially. The expeditions are what elevated the game for me. And the fact that you could easily get all the cards without spending money - just never sell cheap cards. After you get three of each you won't get any more, so the good ones will all turn up.
Bro i was dying with the randomly changing ps1 and earlier game skins juxtaposed against the fully modeled realistic PS4 characters lmao. Loved how Oboe was obsessed with getting his precious PS1 skin back asap 😂
Fun shit about the main Villain Konstantin. He's voiced by Zack Ward, the guy who played Scut Farkus in A Christmas Story and The Postal Dude from the Postal Movie. Totally threw me for a loop as he sounds nothing like Zack.
I always thought it was funny how Jonah went from distinctly Samoan in the first game to black guy from Detroit in Rise, then back to Samoan in Shadow.. Like who decided that?
Rise was incredibly good, improvement on almost every aspect of 2013 Tomb Raider and had a really good exploration and story focused DLC around Croft manor, which did a great job adding more layers to Lara's background.
Maybe Lara has some kind of curse, like The Shadow from Amnesia: The Dark Descent, but instead of flesh it causes everywhere she goes to just catch fire and/or explode. And why her friends/acquaintances in the first game kept dying.
It's such a bizarre system, but the fun part was that you could easily exploit it and get all the cards without spending any real money on the game. The microtransactions are literally just there with no purpose if you know how to do it.
I like climbing mechanics. In a lot of cases it gives the devs the ability to add really cinematic scenes that are nice to look at (I'm thinking the first time you climb the fortress in Uncharted). It's a nice throwback to platforming, though that's usually horrible in 3D games, but the rigidity of level design when you need to jump between platforms that you sort of "connect to" makes the motion quasi-2D and offsets the horribleness of 3D platforming. It also adds some fear of vertigo and excitement, although mild since you are the main character and it's limited how badly you can fuck up. Worst case you fall off and there's a checkpoint just before. I think it couples nicely with the adventure theme.
I actually like the new Tomb raider series. I'm on shadowbut the first 2 games were good. Though I played TR 2013 back when it came out and was a good expiernce
I think it needs to be discussed more, there was no reason for Laura to do one part of the mission. The item they were looking for was in another place and the leader knew it. They just wanted the bad guys to take care of Laura.
The game is great but oh my god the score challenges had their score for gold set so high you can occasionally find some of the devs apologizing for it.
