"I've been on the road a couple months" "By yourself?" "Yeah" "Where did you live before that?" "I was in a town" "Were there monsters there?" "No, we were safe, full of good people" "What happened?" "He just... Lost it" "Who?" "The man in charge... Barely got out alive" Looks like everyone beat me to it lol
who ever picks the music for the walking dead did a awesome job with this selection. really captured the ending of that episode. puts chills inside me when I watch the ending.
What made TV Governor better than the Book version, imho, was the fact that TV TRIED to be a good person afterward. But Life just wouldn't let him be.I think part of him realized he wasn't cut out for solo leadership, but couldn't seem to say No when it was offered ...Or,in the Words of Al Pachino.... "Every time i think i'm out, they Pull me back in!"
You know, I'm just glad that people are discovering Ben's solo work and his great band, Lucero. It doesn't matter when or how you were first introduced. I saw my first Lucero show in 2002, but I'm sure someone on here saw them way before I did. Just happy they're getting the attention they deserve.
The sad song abotu a man who got a second chance and committed the exactly the same bad choices. "If I would be that way earlier, my daughter would be affraid of me. But if I would be that way earlier, maybe my daughter would be still alive"
Radomir Darmiła i mean, this song wasn't written specifically for the walking dead. It was actually written about the book Blood Meridian, by cormac McCarthy. One of my favorite books.
I'm one of those people who unfortunately found out about this song thanks to Walking Dead! But I have to say, it captures the mood I think they were going for perfectly, awesome song, awesome episode!
Why is that 'unfortunate'? How else do you think songs get spread? Don't be ashamed that the walking dead brought you here, be thankful they shared the artists music for you
Yeah! Don't let the "hipster" ideology make you feel bad for discovering new things through other popular forms of entertainment. I think everyone should be blessed by artists with true talent!
The songs actually about a book, The Blood Meridian, by Cormac McCarthy (Writer of The Road, No Country for Old Men, All The Pretty Horses, etc.). Ben wrote a whole short album about the book, and it's awesome. The fact that it was used in The Walking Dead seems quite fitting though. I haven't watched the show in a while, so I didn't know they used it. Regardless, anyone who enjoys reading should check out the book it's about. Otherwise, just enjoy Ben Nichols musicianship.
As an Aussie I was stunned to find the "Official" clip to this song to simply be a video of some of Queensland's nightlife here in Aus. I could tell as soon as I saw the cop cars this was shot in Queensland Australia. Have to say the LAST thing I thought I'd see here would be some local content, was totally expecting some large dusty plain somewhere in Texas with some Bison grazing in the distance or something. Really curious now as to the artistic relevance behind it - Maybe Ben Nichols was touring Aus and decided to record the video here? Anyone knows let me know.
Another Lucero fan in Queensland? There can't be too many of us. I too was shocked to see Queensland in this clip. I doubted it's authenticity when I first saw it.
chrshy Nope New South Welshman :P and to be completely honest I didn't know about Lucero until you told me, like many ppl here I'm here exclusively due to the Walking Dead lol. Thank you for introducing me to Lucero tho good Queenslander! :)
I knew this was shot in Australia! I was going to say the ambulance and cop cars look like they are from Australia but I didn't want to look like an idiot so I didn't say it...
I get chills hearing this song play in the background of season 4 of The Walking Dead when the governor losing his mind almost dying trying to flee the area, amazing.
For some reason I expected a man on horseback... a lot of open plains, bison, close-up shots of streams, forests pans, sunsets with lens-flare, tumbleweeds, bald eagles, mountainsides and maybe a slo-mo shot of 1 single native american tear. I didn't expect this video at all. It's a cool video but after hearing this alongside the governors transformation intro... I always thought this video would be about something more Pony Express-ish. cest la vie :-/ Still an amazing song... made me like the Governor and root for him for like all of 2 episodes before I hated him again
You aren't too far off from what had inspired Mr. Nichols. Substiute the bison for scalped Comanche, make your man on horseback an albino anti-christ in a Stetson, and fill the air with blackpowder, piss, and blood. This album was inspired by Cormac Mcarthy's Blood Meridian. Its about scalp hunters in antebellum Texas and Mexico. I love the Gov, but he's a choir boy compared to Meridian's Judge Holden.
GrabThePump The symbolism is extremely different. If you can't figure that out, either you haven't given it any thought, or you're an idiot. Either way, we'd appreciate it if you kept your comments to yourself, and quit looking for racism where none was intended.
You know why this man nichols and his band Lucero is great. He speaks to everyman's soul. This young cat can sing and his band is great as well, especially this accordianist, Rick.
Countrymusic´s not so popular here in germany so first got a hold on this song by TWD. But it´s really great, never listened to a song so repeadly since Johnny Cash - Hurt
In my hands, I hold the ashes In my veins, black pitch runs In my chest, a fire catches In my way, the setting sun Dark clouds gather 'round me Due northwest, the soul is bound And I will go, on ahead free There's a light yet to be found The last pale light in the west The last pale light in the west And I ask for no redemption In this cold and barren place Still I see a faint reflection And so by it, I got my way The last pale light in the west The last pale light in the west
I love this dude! Thanks 2 TWD, without it I'd never knew of Ben Nichols and Lucero. It don't matter if you like it or hate it, the show brought me 2 this great artist.
Que buenas elecciones hace The Walking Dead para la música de la serie... Increíble esta canción, gracias a Shazam pude saber como se llamaba. Grandes!
My friend Rhys Day filmed this as a personal project and didn't give permission for it to go public. It was filmed in Brisbane, Australia. He should at least get some credit for it.
I fucking love this song SO much. I admit I think the Walking Dead is a bit over-rated, because back when it first aired nobody gave a SHIT about it, but I was there that night in October (the same exact night Boardwalk Empire aired too). It was excellent. When everybody was bitching about these "boring" episodes that were all about the Governor, I was actually excited to watch it. This song really touches the soul, and made me sympathize/empathize with a monster. Even monsters have/had souls at one time or another. "Brian" was on the brink of suicide until he spotted who he thought was his little girl. The part AFTER he murders Hershel and his new love interest comes up to him with the little girl, and The Gov just coldly takes her in his arms and shoots her in the head, was when I knew he was finished. He really tried, but the world got to him and after he shot that little girl he had nothing left. This song is the very definition of "bittersweet". I love playing it on my guitar.
yup, the scene where they first meet, at the table. Brian tells him that people consider him the governor, a name that was given. Rick then says "oh really? I remember you as the town drunk".
"He looked back a last time at the street and at the random windowlights let into the darkness and at the last pale light in the west and the low dark hills around. Then he pushed open the door and entered."
song was used so beautifully in walking dead....for all the people hating that people liked it just because of walking dead...who cares...more people now no of this artist and more aware of his great music...its a good thing not a bad thing
this made me feel so hard for the governor that it actually made him my fav character, good job making this song sir, perfect amount of dispare and hope
i loVe this song, it makes me feel so sad, because remind me an special situation that happened at mexico city at the finish of a concert of my favorite spanish band.! I LIKE !!
Awesome song, I never really like country but this song touched me while watching TWD. Thanks, you enlightened me. Awesome guys, keep up the awesome music
Love this video... It's like... You can see the same emptiness and void that you saw in The Governor on TWD...People just simply existing thru life.. but with a void inside.

When i first heard this song a year ago, jumped out of the sofa and went near to the TV just to soundhound it. This song is amazing.
it is amazing :)

That episode makes you "appreciate" the character much more, for sure. I like evil corrupt characters, much more interesting watching them unfold.
