This is one of the best scenes in TWD, the song fits perfectly. The sequence of The Governor around 1:57 with the house on fire behind him followed by him just staring at the rest of the carnage, it speaks a thousand words.
In my hands, I hold the ashes In my veins, black pitch runs In my chest, a fire catches In my way, the setting sun Dark clouds gather 'round me To the west, my soul is bound And I will go on ahead, free There's a light yet to be found The last pale light in the west The last pale light in the west And I ask for no redemption In this cold and barren place Still I see the faint reflection And so by it, I got my way The last pale light in the west The last pale light in the west
Damn, i can remember like today the episodes coming out and they were filmed in Atlanta, omg, that post-apocalyptic vibe, i wish TWD was like that forever!
I love how they really embrace the more than likely true certainty that if it all came crashing down like in TWD, any of us could be the gov. That's just the truth. In todays society, we could not fathom his loss, nor pretend to ever be that alone. The show really does a great job at showing their are no heroes when civilization ends, there are only villains. What kind of villain you are all depends on perspective and what you'll do to live. But make no mistake, the heroes are all dead.
I love how much better The Governor is portrayed in the TV series. In the comics he's portrayed as a depraved, deceitful psychopath (could be partly compared to Trevor Phillips from GTA 5, but only partly) who hides under the mask of "a kind, caring leader of community", while in TV series was a casual family man who experienced death of a close relative even before the dead didn't stayed dead. In TV series he was portrayed much better, and i've read all comic issues and seen each and every season three times.
I was gonna comment until I read yours and don't have to : ) As much as I hated the gov, once I saw the episode when he's roaming all alone, i couldn't help but sympathize. Anyone could go mad like he did living in that world, fighting to live, losing everyone you love and know, trying to build something again and having people depend on you... i think its very easy for the darkness in one's heart to slowly take over. Milton said once he knew him before everything happened and that he was different. And this song did a great job at opening up my mind. Its become one of my favorites.
In case anyone's interested, the album this song is off is based on a book called Blood Meridian, written by Cormac McCarthy (same author of No Country for Old Men as well as The Road). This song is based on a line in the very last chapter of the book "He looked back a last time at the street and at the random windowlights let into the darkness and at the last pale light in the west and the low dark hills around." Every other song from this album is based on a specific character from the book. I highly recommend it, my all time favorite book
Negan at heart is a cynical prick. He enjoys it so much, it occasionally humanizes him. He is very funny, and has a strong grasp of cognitive empathy. He's cruel at times for utilitarian purposes. The Governor was clearly a good man who was engulfed wholly by the tragedy of his existence. He has spent so long repressing emotion that he has become sociopathic
I think what made the Governor so terrifying was that we could actually see where he was coming from and felt sympathy for him. Negan is a good character, sure, but the Governor will always be more scarier and honestly, one of the best characters in TWD.
Negan was written so he could be redeemed. The governor was written to be a full on antagonist, that even when it almost felt like he could have good in him, would let you down and turn to bad.
The first time in the series (I think) that we don't see Rick - and it's an episode entirely devoted to the Governor and his "getting his groove back" after the first failed attack on the Prison. I remember at the time thinking it was refreshing and warranted we got to see the Governor and him becoming rejuvenated by Lilly and her family. It added a ton of layers to who he was. Clearly he wasn't just some mindless killer, (otherwise he would've killed the family for their supplies). The whole arc was REALLY well done and the guy is my favorite villain of the show. He's a sociopathic and psychopathic character, BUT - he was also a hell of a leader and quite capable. I've always thought of him as "Dark Side Rick".
3 Years later and your point still stands very good because Negan technically has turned into a anti-Villain while the Governor was a villain thick and thin all the way.
I like Negan but he was almost too entertaining to hate at times. The Governor’s death was one of the most satisfying parts of the show for me. He was so despicable that Andrea became eternally hated for sleeping with him instead of taking him out when she had the chance.
This is still one of my favorite walking dead episodes. It built up the character of the governor so well to bring us to the point where we got to take this "side quest" from the group to see another mans story. The music was also so perfect. They put so much work and love into the character arc of the governor and how he collided with ricks group. We got to see him as the man he was and the man he wanted to be. Everything after this, albeit pretty good, just felt rushed compared to these "peak walking dead days" when facebook was full of posts and watch parties were a thing.
I think The Governor, Negan, and Alpha are the best villains for their places in the show. The Governor comes along when it still feels like the "end of the world." He's a man who lost everything in the fall and became viscious and psychotic in the process, and only cares about enacticing pain on those he believes wronged him, even to his own detriment. Negan, on the otherhand, comes along during the reconstructing of communities, when the characters are not only surviving, but rebuilding, and he's a man who threatens that construction with his own view of the best way the new world should be built. But as we see, he still finds the value in Rick's way after the fact, because they have the same end goal, just different methodologies. Alpha comes along, however, with a completely different society built from the fall. It's developed on an entirely different path than the society built by the other survivors, and there's no hope for any reconcilliation. Now it's like two developed warring nations built in the ruins of the world. That's just my take, though.
"And I ask for no redemption..." Ironically, he threw it away for his revenge, losing everything again. But I think, he was a great antagonist and Rick sometimes was in Danger becoming just like him.
Just started watching the walking dead. Im on season 4 ep 9 now. I really started to like his character, and thought he was going to do some good. absolute power, corrupts absolutely. Same thing with merle... his character started to become really likable.
This is such an emotional scene this is what the show needs to get back to great story telling not just making stupid things to get ratings up this is the most beautiful examples of good righting to take a person that everyone Hate's and in one scene make them feel remorse for him it's amazing
Killing of shane...Shane woulda F'ed the governor in the A...even tho . Those are the best 2 characerts in the show..they messed up real bad...hence why ratings are down 40% by now..its gone on WAY TOOO LONG
I would like to see the continuation from the moment when Rick gives a speech when he says that they all can live together and Governor doesn't kill Hershel this time and they both fight against Negan and so on and Governor has regained a family for good...
Vlogs And Stuff yeah they totally made the governor a sympathetic character. I don't remember him being at all sympathetic in the comic, just cray-cray lol.
I really wish season "4a" had been a whole season, just so we could have seen more of Brian Heriot, and also the illness thing (though I hope that comes back in some way)
"Where did you live before that" "I was in a town" "Were the monsters there" "No, it was safe. There was good people" "What happened"? "He just lost it...The man in charge...I barely got out alive" - The Governor
They should have found a way to keep him around, maybe when the fight at the prison ends he finds a way to escape leaving the possibility of a future return.

El mejor villano de twd, vimos toda su evolución, desde ser una persona tranquila y segura, a llegar a la demencia y sed de venganza por haber perdido todo lo que construyó.
One of the best secenes the governor is a true example of a good character he was totally broken. Dont get me wrong he was a phyco but he was driven crazy and his character really showed it he was just an awesome character even tho he was crazy he tried to be good but he jusy kept getting chopped down at his knees and driven even further to become he was. And his character really showed that in my opinion the governer was definitely one of the top 5 characters in all of twd
This is the apex of depression. It's somehow surviving past the point most people would kill themselves, and continuing to exist out of some numb disinterest. He burns down Woodbury as a partial suicide - killing the character of the Governor, which isn't himself. The only reason he doesn't actively try to kill himself is because he genuinely doesn't care.
David Morrissey was just one of the best actors on the show in my opinion. Nobody could have played the governor better.

Governator still the best of the three by far
They’re definitely the Top 3 villains & it’s not even close.
Definitely still one of my favorite scenes in the show.
Love this scene! The music fits in so well with the governor's character I just wish that him and Rick could have made Peace.
Sadly he's too far gone.
Miss the old walking dead season 1-6
Same
Ben Nichols!
Being from Memphis recognized his voice the night this aired
2:20 My sleep deprived ass roaming the school halls with only 3 hours of sleep on a Monday
"And I ask for no redemption..." Ironically, he threw it away for his revenge, losing everything again. But I think, he was a great antagonist and Rick sometimes was in Danger becoming just like him.
ILOVE THE WALKING DEAD!
BlackPommes🌴. Do you still love it now?
LucIsz Moore I`m
You Know Who I Am+ No I don't think anyone does

ZombieSlayer2015 He's British lol.
My number one favorite episode in TWD
When I feel like life has rolled over me with a truck, when things are down, I think of this scene and I think of this song.
Just started watching the walking dead. Im on season 4 ep 9 now. I really started to like his character, and thought he was going to do some good. absolute power, corrupts absolutely.
Same thing with merle... his character started to become really likable.
find it funny how he sidesteps that walker like it was nothing, barely looks at it. Got bigger things on his mind lol
This is SO EPIC Man
ebenso die besten Serien aller Zeiten!!!👍👍👍
Ben Nichols The Best !!!!!
As this scene kept going, I actually felt Sad, The governor had everything and Now he is just waking alone
live Bait ... I love this episode ! the governor burning all !!
This is such an emotional scene this is what the show needs to get back to great story telling not just making stupid things to get ratings up this is the most beautiful examples of good righting to take a person that everyone Hate's and in one scene make them feel remorse for him it's amazing
killing off THE GOVERNOR, KILLED THE SHOW FOR ME
The Governor is hands down my favorite and the most bad ass character ever! Long live Woodbury!!
Killing of shane...Shane woulda F'ed the governor in the A...even tho . Those are the best 2 characerts in the show..they messed up real bad...hence why ratings are down 40% by now..its gone on WAY TOOO LONG
@@crdude806 No way. The governor was not only smart he was brutal. Shane was so stupid he let his sexual impulse get him killed.
Death of some character could kill the show - Shane, Dale, Governor, Glenn, Merle. And even Daryl is a shadow of himself now - with no personal life..
Yeah screw negan
This was the peek of the Series
peak was season 5
3:13 HA Got'em
Episode 6 7 and 8 of sesson 4 were some of the best episodes ive watched in the show so far
I want a fanfiction where the governor didn't die.
Bilbo_Gamers me too dildo saggins...me too..
I would like to see the continuation from the moment when Rick gives a speech when he says that they all can live together and Governor doesn't kill Hershel this time and they both fight against Negan and so on and Governor has regained a family for good...
This takes me back so far. Just the nostalgia
3:12 I love how he made that walker fall
Who else felt sorry for the governor when his people left him when he came out of his tent?
Vlogs And Stuff yeah they totally made the governor a sympathetic character. I don't remember him being at all sympathetic in the comic, just cray-cray lol.
Vlogs And Stuff nobody.
Not me because Destroyed the prison
When there's nothing left to lose
I really wish season "4a" had been a whole season, just so we could have seen more of Brian Heriot, and also the illness thing (though I hope that comes back in some way)
Right now, after almost 10 years... I realised, that this clip was basically first of the "literally me" genre..
ong
Its sad they stopped making the music themes after this
171 episodes in this series and this will forever be my favourite
Best vilain of the show.
"Where did you live before that"
"I was in a town"
"Were the monsters there"
"No, it was safe. There was good people"
"What happened"?
"He just lost it...The man in charge...I barely got out alive"
- The Governor
They should have found a way to keep him around, maybe when the fight at the prison ends he finds a way to escape leaving the possibility of a future return.
They already did in season 3final.
This part of season 4 was a memory maker right here.
so hard to see woodbury burn..back when the show was actually legit. woodbury vs the prison
Daryl Dixon is my favorite character but i really miss The Governor he's million times a better Villain than Negan.
