  • @KiranSundarkdog97

To put this in context of how remarkable this is a little more:
The man in the middle of these tuning sequences? His name’s Matt Harloff, and he’s been involved with DCI in some capacity for the last 25-30 years (and has been a big force the last 20 years or so). He’s the brass caption head of Carolina Crown, basically the head instructor of the hornline throughout a drum corps season.
Under his guidance, Crown’s brass section went from a bottom-tier hornline relative to the finalist competition (12th out of 12, I believe, in 2003) to 3rd in a span of 5 years, and best hornline in the activity (arguably the best ever, and objectively in terms of scoring, 20/20 possible points) in another 5 years. The players have gotten better and better each year, and Crown has become the GOLD STANDARD in the activity, having not placed below 2nd in the brass caption since 2011. (And technically, they’ve been 3rd or better since 2008, with the exception of 2010. Talk about a run of success!)
    That’s why they’re God’s hornline.

Thank you for listening to this!! This is a production of years of hard work, dedication, discipline, sweat, tears, practice, training, rehearsing, performance, perfection. The person you saw mostly leading the hornline to playing was Matt Harloff. In 1993 I had a chance to rehearse with a corps called Star of Indiana. He was taken out of the hornline and was made the Drum Major. The was their final year in existence. They lost the championship by .1 of a point to the Cadets of Bergen County! He eventually moved on to the flourishing Carolina Crown. He is a legend now, but it started with Star of Indiana. And, in only 5 years they won a DCI championship. Please react to the 1990 and 1991 Star of Indiana DCI championship shows. You won't regret it.

You can only do it until you are 21. You basically go on tour for the summer doing competition all around the country. You should definitely check out some drumlines too! That was nice of you recognizing how well they play. The top levels, they very much are professionals. Blue Devils has early groups and feed into upper levels and THOSE kids can be pretty spectacular. Sometimes I really like Phantom Regiments work as well. They all do it by practice, drive and excellent training. I prefer to hear "stand still" or off field performances because the field shows can be very Hollywood in some cases and I love the sound more than the glitter.

Welcome to the Magic that is Carolina Crown & DCI🌸
Fort Mill South Carolina is KNOWN for it’s amazing Marching Bands! 6th graders to 12th grade, DCI, Collegiate Level & beyond! I was there from Carolina Crown was just a dream in 7th grade (90’) to sharing the field with them as a Senior ( I played Trumpet, French Horn & Mellophone) They amaze me every single year! Carolina Crown keeps on marching their way into DCI history! Even on my Honeymoon in 2003, my then husband & I shared a flight with many members of The Phantom Regiment (always a favorite of mine from before CC) I was just telling them how much I admired their program. They asked where we were from? Fort Mill SC! They were amazed at my husband & I . Lol!
(I was the Horn Captain & he was the Drum Captain) It was an awesome flight & a lot of Q&A from the Phantom’s!
Watch Drop The Hammer from the Relentless show on the DCI channel! 🤯🤯🤯
