Looking for the words to describe what I just watched and all I can come up with is very impressive and I suspect we will all be seeing similar versions in future cities and I'm sure others will take it upon themselves to come up with a mod / asset to simplify the process and make it easier. As always a great video and thanks for taking the time to make our CS experience more enjoyable.
If you remember all the way back to the first map of mine you reviewed, Wyvernmont, I tried to attempt the same affect. Suffice to say I gave up after about an hour or two of flooding and went with tunnel option alpha. Great to see someone bring it to fruition. Hopefully the view count encourages you to do more of these videos.
Ah yes, that was a good one. And yes, I've already started the preliminary work on the next 'crazy' build. I'm in contact with another A-list creator for a custom asset, and will hopefully have another unique build in a few weeks.
I've been fiddling around for ages to come up with a solution like this. An epic build without the usual extensive need for Mods. Just a couple that any good CS player has in his/her/it's inventory. You just made my day my dear Sir!
I have no idea if that would be possible but agree if someone created a map utilising canals and the FW it would certainly be very unique. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falkirk_Wheel. If anyone's curious
Bonkers and brilliant at the same time. Felt like you should've put the same caveat at the start as per your Network Extensions 2 heads-up PSB... "Console players: you've nothing to be aware of, feel free to ignore the rest of this and carry on gaming." 8D
Perfect! I knew the hidden webcam in your living room would prove useful one day :D I'm joking of course. Right now the webcam is hidden in Anoupou's kitchen.
The canal doesn't leak because you can see through it. A 3D model consists of multiple faces (the "stuff" you see). Faces have normals. Face normal is the direction a face is pointing. A face will only be rendered when you're looking at it from the right angle. As you're not supposed to see the canal from underneath it would be a waste of triangles to include a bottom face (with normal pointing down in the ground). When you look from underneath, the top face (the surface of the canal) gets culled (back-face culling) as it would be a waste of GPU power to render stuff you normally can't see anyways.
Thanks Peter, well explained. Yes, I did understand this, much like when you clip inside a building and can see right through the walls. My comment was more for entertainment purposes as much as anything, as I expected most people would be more interested in the build than the actual techie stuff. Thanks for taking the time to comment though, I'm sure there will be someone who didn't know this, and hopefully this will help :-)
So the water isn't actually water, the ferry is actually a bus🤔... No surprise, since we are in the country where pedestrians have cars in their pockets😁
I watched this video with curiosity having no idea it was related to that thing you was asking a couple weeks ago. You know why I started laughing halfway through :D
Hahaha.... to be fair there are a number of navigable aqueducts in the UK, but nothing this grand. What I know of are built for long boats, and from the industrial age. Blame the Victorians :D
Great work on this! I do have to say it was kind of infuriating to see you use move it with terrain following turned on so you manually had to re level everything . The button is on the far left of the move it menu. If you turn it off everything will stay at the same height when you move it. So if you have a flat section you can easily grab it and adjust the of the whole section. But terrain following is useful sometimes like when you were placing the bushes so you don't have to manually adjust the height every time you place them.
lol sneaky, and too much faf for me personaly but I like the idea of staking those decals for extra opacity thats something i'll probalbly use at some point in the future, nice one.
" I broke the game"....."Everyone will jump on this"... Seriously? I thought you actually found a way to make a aquaduct instead of slowing your game down with 1000000 props in a megaproject just for a aquaduct.
I just checked for you. This build used approximately 1000 props, which is about 1.5% of the game's prop limit. Props have a negligible effect on game performance, compared to actually zoning an area. And "just" for an aqueduct... something never seen before in the game... yeah, just an aqueduct. I could have used the PO mod, with zero props, but decided to keep things as simple as possible for the intermediate gamer. Your feedback is genuinely appreciated though, helps me to understand expectations so thank you for that. :-)
It would, but I wanted to avoid using Procedural Objects, as the entire thing could be PO, including the ship on a movement module. If I used PO on one thing I, where do I draw the line?
Ur just soo goooood i wanna use these mods but idk how.. I cant fund them cuz i didnt install the game from steem however i put the mode link in the game files, i just cant find the significant mods
Sorry I can't help with non-Steam versions of the game. Partly because I'm not sure how, but also because I don't want to encourage pirating. I'm sure your copy is legit, but many others won't be.
Hey, thanks for the feedback. Did you mean this one? ua-cam.com/video/YNuunvX99_k/v-deo.html If so, they did do a great job, but it is just a variation of tunnels under a canal as I covered early in my tutorial and not a 'true aqueduct'. I do love the end aesthetic they've achieved though. If you're thinking of another video please send me the link as I would love to see it :-)
@@BonBonB no not this one the same excat aqueduct which has had just clipping networks and allowed actual ships to pass not sure but definitely some japanese youtuber even am able to dig through my history saw it a long back though he did it with clipping networks and surface networks I coudlnt get what he did fully as well lol will hunt my history and see if I can find it...but too many vids of skylines in history xD
I couldn't believe it when it wandered into view. I figured I'd have to delete it, and re-record, then remembered whose map it was. Sometimes you have to make a feature out of a glitch :-)
You code it and I'll showcase it. If you can do that you'll be greater than BloodyPenguin, boformer, TPB, and SamSamTS put together. Or it might just not be possible.

Wow, one of the best and most creative tutiorials i have ever seen about Cities Skylines
Cheers domi!

Wonder if someone will make a canal mod which holds its water when you do something like this, would be awesome
due to how water simulations are implemented in similar games, it's impossible to have hollow space under the water surface.
there will be
in cities skylines anything can happen
2:45 When I think that I walked near this site without suspecting anything ... I make a very poor industrial spy ....
Let's hear it for the map of the year 2020!
Why not make a canal that dont leak.. the assetcreator who can make this goes directly to number one in the workshop.
@@parad0xheart you can already just use ferries...
just import boat asset as a ferry, no need to complicate it so much hah
In Minden Germany they have a canal aqueduct that crosses over a river.
Ah yes, I've seen that one too. Great reminder though!
Please like this video so more people can see it. And you help BonBon a lot with this.
The limit is the sky. Well done.
And the bus ships still probably only hold 30 people 😁 nice work bonbon
Nope. 500 passengers as per the vanilla liner. :-)

HAHAHAAA this are briliant and impressive. Now we can make starwars bus lines to. lol
great, the falcon as a bus :)
a fake bus...
i like
Brilliant! CS can be adapted practically anything, given some imagination!
Looks amazing.
I would love someone to make a workable version of the Falkirk Wheel. For those who don't know, it's a Ferris wheel for canal boats.
I have no idea if that would be possible but agree if someone created a map utilising canals and the FW it would certainly be very unique.

This is so timely lol. I was literally talking about boat bridges to my kids and wishing I could make them in cities.
