- Today, October 20, 2021, we celebrate Mark King's 63rd birthday!
Also Level 42 have announced a tour of the Netherlands in November 2021. They will play a.o. De Melkweg Amsterdam and Tivoli Utrecht.
Today it will also be the UA-cam premiere of Level 42's single 'Children Say'.
That is why we highlight this great song 'It's over' from 1987.
'It's Over' is the 4th single of British band Level 42 of their 7th studio album 'Running in the Family'. It became a hit in England (#10), in the Netherlands (#7) and Belgium (#12).
'It's Over' is about a lover leaving and not coming back. The single was recorded at the time both brothers Boon and Phil Gould had decided to leave the band. Level 42 was at this time Mark King (bass/vocals) and Mike Lindup (keyboards). In this video Neil Conti (from Prefab Sprout) is replacing Phil Gould on drums and Paul Gendler plays guitar replacing Boon Gould.

@@navarrouk3487 it's a meme to say 'i like this' but yield some easy approval. but it makes no sense in most cases and especially in this case: level 42 is NOT underrated! every bass player who's into slapping (most are initially) knows mark king and is familiar with or has studied his work.
Discovered this song in december of 2023. Makes me realize how fortunate people in the 80's were to have had such great music

@seltaeb9691 I know they were big in the eighties, but imo they are not talked about as much as other eighties bands, that's why they are underrated.
@@stefjonno1 they're not underrated. they made it to the mainstream and mark king is absolutely in the top 10 most famous electric bass players until this day, after flea, paul mccartney, sting, ect, maybe even top 5. headhunters or yellowjackets (who have a similar style) probably have more original songs and overall better musicians than level 42 and sold a fraction compared to them, but even they are hardly underrated imo.
It adds a certain poignancy to the performance that neither Boon Gould (guitar) or his brother Phil Gould the drummer were present, having recently left the band.
As far as I know there was no falling out, so it's puzzling (and sad), those two founder members with Mark King and Mike Lindup upped and left. Tragically Boon, who wrote the fantastic lyrics to this song, committed suicide in April 2019 aged 64, after suffering lifelong depression. God bless his soul, he left behind a beautiful legacy of unforgettable music.
I'm a true metal head but I've always loved Level 42. Songs like these take you away, speak to your heart and enter your soul...mine for sure. 😍
Same here. Top 3 bands - Iron Maiden, Metallica and Level 42. People find that weird. I have never been a jazzed funk fan but that first album and particularly that Love Games bass line grabbed me as did the great combination of Mark's vocal and Mike's contrasting falsetto.

First time I ever heard this song. Was back when it was first released. When my wife at the time was having an affair. And left me with two kids. They are now two very successful men. But at the time this song taught me apart. Times a great healer 💪. I still love this song.

He was always far ahead of his time, tragically passing away in 2000 , at 31yrs of age...... I've yet to fully recover ,and really can't see it ever happening. I walked out into the street, clutching a green glass vase that was special. The rest of my stuff was in the trailer of a Landrover and there wasn't room for me and the vase. My new home, away from him, was a few streets away and I was walking out on 26 years of marriage. It was difficult; amazingly difficult, but it was the right thing to do. It's Over was in the charts and seemed so relevantly suitable for my dramatic decision.

Those difficult roads we tread are part of life's journey and maybe they were sent to brace for whatever fate hands out - in many cases even more traumatic and heart-rending experiences. I hope you've become stronger through yours. I am so much wiser in my old age, and cope far better, but we never forget our past because music won't allow it.

47 here, saw them live back in 1984 utrecht the Netherlands. First gig I've seen live. I was 12 my family are all musicians including me.i didn't sing in years now..they were the best I saw. Toto , guns 'n Rose's etc etc
