- In order to promote the movie "Funny Girl", Columbia Records released several songs from the film but arranged in a more pop style. Peter Matz was the conductor and arranger. Sent to radio stations in July 1968, this is the rare stereo single of the Oscar nominated title song, extended more than one minute. This record was never released on any album or on digital form. Enjoy!
She is the greatest star of the 20th.century bar none.
AMEN 🙏🏾
There will never be a more pure voice with the clarity, octave range and perfect phrasing as that of Barbra Streisand.
Her songs will be played forever for us to enjoy over and over again.
100% agreed no one can replace Beautiful Barbara Streisand magnificent talent in Singing & Acting in Funny Girl.
100% impossible!!!
THE VOICE!!!!!! When Barbara takes her to last curtain call in life, the World will be blue knowing we've lost the finest presence of a true gift from heaven. I doubt a ears will ever be blessed again with such incredible, beautiful music....I love your voice Barbara, it makes my cry with joy to hear a living angel sing....Thank You for sharing your gift with the world❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
quite simply the greatest musical, tragi-comedy performance in the history of cinema!
For my sister. She was a funny girl and had a great sense of humor, she showed me how to have a sense of humor and we both loved Barbra Streisand movies when we were little girls. 😘😘✌️🦋
Can't believe this was never released! Barbra at the peak of her vocal power....dear God, the woman is a goddess!
It was released. Just not as a single.
Sitting here with my windows open, the sound turned up all the way, with a gentle breeze lifting the curtains, on the first warm night of Spring
It's 1968 again . . . oh, my . . . the memories . . .moving in its warmth and generosity. . . impeccably performed --- thank you, thank you, thank you for this truly unexpected surprise!
As is anything Barbra does, it's beautiful.
She’s my forever favorite and so beautiful
The Great Streisand's Voice...that has come to us, so clear and beautiful, touching hearts everywhere...it's simply OUTSTANDING...SIMPLY MARVELOUS...
Thanks...wishing the best to all...
There will never be another singer or funny girl that will stay in my heart ..now and forever.
That scene where they kiss in the sunset on the dock is pure class as far as timing and camerawork are concerned
What a beautiful montage! Streisand in Funny Girl and Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday are the two most remarkable screen debuts we will ever see.
Dearest Barbra Streisand,
You are a ravishing beauty and
you are a extremely talented
actress and singer.
OMG, how on earth did you acquire this rare track? It's so beautifully sung and so precious! Thank you for sharing.
OMG
ALL THE WONDERFUL HEARTFELT MUSIC HELPED TO MAKE THIS FILM EVEN MORE MAGNIFICENT
I will never tire hearing that exquisite voice.
MY HEAVEN'S THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RELEASED YEARS AGO ,ITS THE BETTER VERSION!!!
OH MY GOD THAT VOICE
The best voice even over the black tarts of the last century
Another gem suitable for volume 2 of a "Release Me" album. Thanks, Gustavo, well done!
Dear Mr Gustavo,
Thanks so very much for this excellent exquisite musical version of ravishingly beautiful super talented Barbara Streisand!
I really appreciate this masterpiece!
If Streisand decides to do another movie album, I'd love to see her pull this from her vaults and include it. It's wonderful and seems perfectly made for an album. Her rendition is different enough that it sound totally fresh now, 50 years later.
Exquisite version! Streisand was lovely in this film!
I get hella emotional when I watch THIS version every time.
This is so lushly gorgeous. I've never heard this rendition and enjoy listening to Barbra reinterpret one of her standard songs aimed at a radio or even concert audience. Thank you Gustavo for your fabulous work.
She truly is the Greatest Star our world !
Babs is the best in so many arenas
In all arenas. She's the best.
4/24/42…..happy birthday, Barbra
Loved the chemistry between them.💯👏💙♥️
This should go on to "Release Me".....3 or 4 or 5....whichever! It needs a commercial release.
Beautiful restoration Gustavo! Barbra really has the best fans. Barbra, Marty or Columbia / Sony suits should wonder why this hasn't been done professionally before. So many wasted opportunities and lack of respect for her artistry.
Who are you?
It's a beautiful alternate version for a wider public. The film version is perfectly suited to what was needed for the scene. And I think it was a bid for an Oscar for Best Original Song.
BRILL ❗
So incredible! I can totally hear this as a more radio friendly version, everything from the pacing of the tune to Barbra's reading of the lyrics. It was interesting, but I still prefer the film version. I do think this would have been perfect for Just for the Record.
Who are you?
Such a beautiful instrument of a voice.
Ich habe es geliebt ❤grandios und Gänsehaut pur, liebe Grüße aus Wedel Germany
This song must be put on Barbra’s next release me too album!
Comédie musicale que j'ai adorée. Le couple Barbra Streisand-Omar Shariff purement génial avec une Brabra à la voix superbe, magnifique et unique !
what a star and voice, to me the best, thank u barbra
QUEEN BARBRA...MY BARBRA FOREVER...KING STEVE MUSSMAN (FUNNY MAN).
Love this movie 🎬
I can't believe how amazing this is.
Love it. I always wished the song was longer in the movie.
As good as it is I think the movie version worked in the context of the film and had more pathos - but don’t you just love hearing these alternative versions they demonstrate the woman’s extraordinary talent
Thank you so much Gustavo for your excellent work and sharing it with the fans. This version shows again the incomparable magic of Barbra's voice.
Thank you, Gustavo! I’ve listened a few times now, and as always, Ms. Streisand is sublime taking on a journey. But I must mention those orchestrations ! I mean a match made in heaven!
Gorgeous 😊🌹❤️
I'm in shock. I've only ever heard the soundtrack recording. This is better....they should have made this the album version. You are blowing my mind with these rare tracks. I search everywhere for old rare recordings from Barbra. She really stretches her range here. Wonderful
Absolutely stunning, beautiful, gorgeous, classy and vintage. Those hair style are to die for. 💞💝😍😗
Thank you so much for posting this. My aunt took me to see Funny Girl when it came out, when I was 12 years old. The movie seats were even reserved. It was and still is my very favorite movie after 53 years. How time has flown by!!
My favorite movie of all time.
COMO MANTIENE LOS ALTOS.., VAYA CON LAS CUERDAS VOCALES QUE DEBE TENER Y SABER RELAJAR LOS HOMBROS. QUÉ VOZ!!!!!!
YOU ARE GORGEOUS..GUSTAVO!!
I always thought this song was so short… and my favorite in the movie! It’s so amazing to hear this version…
Must definetely be included in Realease Me Vol. 2, as some people have already stated!
Ich habe diesen Film geliebt 🙏🙏❤️❤️
Well done. Thank you. Great tribute for a great, talented lady.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful and AMAZING and BRILLIANT VERSION of FUNNY
Gorgeous! I love the arrangement. And what a terrific video. Beautiful.
Wow. Just. Wow. Thank you!
Sounds amazing, Gustavo! It's a very lush arrangement. Probably too much for that moment in the film. But as a stand-alone song, she knocks it outta the park!
Going to have to watch the movie again or the 5th time. Or 6th. I've lost count. The production value: the costumes, the lighting, the cinematography, THE ACTING, the directing, THE SINGING, OMG it is just one of the best movies ever made when you add all of those up. It's crazy that someone looked at Fanny Brice's life and said "I know, let's make a musical with beautiful songs that the leading lady sings," (when it started on Broadway as a musical) since Fanny was a vaudevillian, and sure she could sing, but I doubt she could sing THIS score because of the range required. It's just amazing from concept to completion. Gotta watch it again.
I love the extended version - great song I think
Magnanimous!!
Brilliant in everyway
Splendid. I think my favorite lines in any song are herein: A Girl oughtta have a sense of humor, that’s one thing you really need for sure. Such resonance for anyone during a breakup.
Thank you for this! What a good movie and good actors! And Barbra Streisand as the best voice and beautiful songs!
Omar Sharif was so handsome!
Wow!! Thank you for posting this!!
Exquisite!!!
Wow just wow
This is my first time hearing this. It’s pure perfection!

Wow! Fabulous! Thank you.
So well sung and such a great song!!! A girl oughtta have a sense of humor.
Thank you so much for this, for sharing it and for the beautiful montage you created of scenes from the film. Really moving. I kept thinking as I watched how good she was as an actress as well as a singer right from the beginning of her career. Thank you…
Thank-you for the post! I loved this!
Love the clips. I also prefer what was used in the film over this arrangement. But nice to hear an alternate.
The best
Simply Magnificent!!!
You've done a great job assembling the film clips; the song underscores them beautifully. Thanks also for providing such a high quality version of the single (I once had a copy myself back in 1968).
Great find! Thank you very much for sharing this gem.
A few great ones were around....this one is just so multi-faceted....and her repertoire covers more than that if most singers, straight from the start! Like Garland😊😊😊😊😊
Wow! Why didn’t they use this version? So amazing!
❤Barbra!!!!❤
Wow another true gem - thank u
This is fabulous. I have the biggest girl crush on this DIVA QUEEN! Thank you for making my day. Best wishes.
