Folks, we won't hear the likes of this singing again in our lifetime. This is one of my favorite Streisand songs, but really there are too many to list. She is the greatest star, no doubt, with that God-given voice. We are blessed to hear it.

Folks, “MusicToMyEars”, is sucking it up BIG TIME. “We won’t hear the likes of this singing again in our lifetime.” Okay, we get it, you love her singing but she’s one of many great singers.

one of my favorite moments in the song is when she sings, "life's a bed of roses swirling perfume on me" and the horns "spritz her", then, "you can spare me the blues" and the orchestra hits it with a blues type burst, then, "I don't sing in that key", and the orchestra & her switch up the key.
it's really a remarkable piece of music both orchestra & vocalist

"What's your secret, Gorgeous?!! Just lucky, I guess!!"
Not only a great vocal, but a stunning piece of theater. The entire performance erupts from the emotion of the character. It starts from a record- and small bits of business of humming along and even singing in counterpart- but then a rush of anger and frustration brings on a new reprise of the song by the time Fanny has come to the empty stage. Shades of "Don't Rain On My Parade." Had the clip continued for a few more seconds, you would've seen the dejected James Caan overhearing everything. A wonderful clip of "Funny Lady."'

In 1975 "Funny Lady" was not a critical success. It did become a commercial success but, I digress. I was 15 years old in 1975; No VHS, No DVD, No streaming video. From the first screening I saw of this film back in the day I was hooked. In terms of plot, this song and “I’m the Greatest Star” are show stopping songs where the audience is supposed to embrace Fanny. This is the moment Funny Girl works and Funny Lady falters. Streisand is the toughest of A list actresses, but she is best at being vulnerable …and off putting when playing tough. Bette Davis was opposite. So interesting.

Even though Barbra’s voice isn’t as good as it was say 10 years or for that matter 3 or so years ago, we have to consider that the woman was in her 70s here. And yet note perfection, unmistakably unique, she still finds the confidence and vocal strength to pull off singing a ballad. And she never ever lip syncs, which seems to be the habit of a few of her contemporaries, who I feel are cheating the audience.

Nobody ever claimed it was a documentary. Fanny Brice never sang I'm The Greatest Star or Don't Rain On My Parade either. (Actually the real Fanny couldn't have hit half those notes.). But she'd be almost entirely forgotten today if it wasn't for Funny Girl and Funny Lady. And, for what it's wroth, FL tells a story much closer to the truth than the earlier film. And Streisand's characterisation is also much closer to the real Brice than in FG).

The problem with the movie (which really isn't bad) was how unrealistic it felt for sweet innocent Fanny to become a barely recognizable rude and arrogant bitch in such a short time span. In Funny Girl, we rooted for Fanny, but in Funny Lady, we rooted for Billy Rose (whom Fanny treated like sh*).

Yeah but it was fun! There is a supposedly a quote/ story that Fanny was walking with her friend in New York, looked up at one of the buildings and told her friend "Up there is the office if the most evil man I ever met." She was talking about Billy Rose.

Really? Was Fanny really that sweet and innocent in Funny Girl? She was already ruthlessly determined to be a star, to do things her way, to go after what she wanted. It's not a big leap from that to someone who, with more money and success, is more controlling and determined not to lose the position and power that they've fought for. Also, while the story of Funny Lady is about as far from the truth as the story of Funny Girl, the character of Fanny is much, much closer to the real Fanny Brice. It was one of the things that finally persuaded Streisand to do the film. It gave her a new acting challenge: to play something much closer to the real Fanny Brice. And those aspects included her somewhat cynical & world-weary attitude (hardly surprising after what she went through with Arnstein), her sardonic sense of humour, her fastidious sense of style, even the way she called people "kid" because she didn't or couldn't be bothered remembering names. There's also more of an attempt to have Streisand look as Brice did in those years.

At 250 a year and a young trophy husband at home, ai knew I might be zonked after we watched porn til Sunday morning. But my ass was in bed Sunday night with Seroquel or Nightquil so I could Sparkle Nelly Sparkle on Monday
To me, that meant sober and tired. A joke on Valley of the Dolls.
