My Great Grandmother was Elizabeth Caudill. From Letcher county KY. She was born in March 1898. She raised her children in Hallie Kentucky, in a holler call Turkey Creek. It's still there. Still lots of Caudills, Campbell's, and Stampers. If she were here she would tell me if there's people on those headstones tonight that you talked about are related to us. I can almost guarantee they are. Bless you for doing what you do. I miss Kentucky.
She had 11 children one set of twin's. The writing was worded so deeply in those days. It makes your heart cry. Thank you Leo and Heather. Enjoy your camping.
I bet she had RH negative blood and the husband had RH positive. This happened with an aunt of mine. She lost about 6 this way. First couple of children were ok. After that, they all died.
Leo, it's nice to see this "side" of history being represented impartially. Up here in Pennsylvania, we don't see CSA graves in our cemeteries, obviously. However, the landscape and the lives that this war changed is still seen and felt if you look hard enough like you guys do. When I see a young soldier's grave, I often wonder who he left behind: a future wife, a wife, children, and all those left to mourn him until they passed. Thank you! 👍
I cried so much, probably because I have a 19yo son. So much of the human experience is suffering, war, and death. Thank God He offers us salvation from this fate. Thank you for this beautiful video.
My heart hurts every time you read the names of children. The poor parents who lost all those children is heart breaking. Thank you for all you & Heather do for the lost & forgotten
I love history with a particular passion for civil war history. Isn't true of most wars "an old man's war a young man's fight" and "a rich man's war a poor man's fight" truly sad that so many of these young men rest in unnamed graves. I know it was war time with limited resources but these men deserved so much better. I hope they rest peacefully in the holy keeping of our loving God.
Thank you for this wonderful piece of Kentucky history Leo. This is one of the best videos you have done. As you know, the Civil War is my niche. Absolutely loved this video.
At least some of the men have some recognition from the stones. I feel bad for the unknown soldiers as in all of Americas wars. It didn’t help then and even now it doesn’t help grieving families but God knows everyone of these guys here or anywhere in the world, wherever they rest. R. I. P. all
Leo, Jim and I both want to thank you so much for your work today. You really caught us off guard. Seeing this brings tears to us both. It makes war real. Neither of us were prepared for it but that is what makes it so special. Please, as soon as you can go back and spend more time there. So much to see and learn. Merry Christmas to you and Heather
My hometown, the Westwood community where this is filmed is known to the locals simply as graveyard holler. My mother, sister and a host of friends is buried on the other side of the graveyard. Below around the public swimming pool late on some nights you can hear the pounding of hoofbeats as if the soldiers are on the move.
The latest estimates of deaths in the war was 750,000. Of those deaths approximately 400,000 died from disease not wounds received in battle. Those numbers are mind boggling. Leo & Heather you as usual did an excellent job with this video. Thanks for bringing to light this forgotten cemetery. I hope you both have a very Merry Christmas 🎄. Also I hope Santa Claus is very good to both of you. You deserve it.❤
Beautiful. My family was from Rockcastle & Whitley counties. Was surprised that they fought for the north. I’ve learned quite a bit watching your channel. Peace to you and your kin…good tidings!
How heartbreaking that all those young men perished here. Each battlefield I visit reminds of all those you men and cries of their mothers. Thanks for your respectful remembrance.
Wow Leo this was a awesome find. I have a lot of Kin that came from that Area that migrated up from Virginia. I definitely will put this on my list to visit when I get that way again. Thanks 🙏 for the upload and a lot of them Family names I recognize.
Another awesome video! The poem "I asked God" stood my hair up! You do a good job being impartial. Sometimes in this region it's hard to choose a side, and sometimes it's hard not to! Thank you and bless you both!
Wow Leo ! That is a fascinating cemetery ! The amount of sadness there is overwhelming. Merry Christmas Leo and Heather ! Thank you for sharing such interesting history with us !
R.I.P. to all who fought for our freedom. So sad such young men. Those were hard times. The letter found on dead soldier touches your heart and the other you read oh my so touching. So glad they restored what they could of this history priceless sad but priceless. They sure deserve to be remembered. Ty for putting up ages of young men I like that I don’t have to try to add I like looking and enjoying ty. That family with 10 children passed you know that had to be so horrible. R.I.P. to all. I just love the way you all do these videos ty. I kinda go back here and there watch all I can find I haven’t seen yet. God bless you all and your family. Ty.
I really enjoyed this. I have a lot of family and friend’s buried at this cemetery. I recently visited here and wish you could see the flags and green grass. It’s beautiful at this moment.
Hello from England, I love history and we don't see too many videos on these soldiers who died way too young, outstanding job on this one guys and also I'm a GT7 sim racer and I just love your car, one of my favourite Fords and like deployed, happy holidays guys....🤘🤘🤘
Thank you so much Leo, Heather. This is one grest video. I was sort of expecting this to go one way, then it hit me right in the heart. Those poor babies, young children and the parents that lived on. I would really like a copy of the soldiers note, and the note on Potters field. If those two dont make you stop and think, then something is wrong with you. You were reading the soldiers names and units. The Kentucky 5th Infantry A company, is what my great grandfather, his five brothers, and my great great grandfather were in. They were out of Morgan County, KY. My great great grandfather was promoted to Chaplain. He may very well have read over these young men. Thank ya'll so much for what ya'll do, both in the research and in the field. This is one of those cemeteries that you could probably spend a month in. God bless ya'll and hope ya'll have a blessed and Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.
Leo Sometimes you bring us gems that attach to the soul. Thanks. I wish that you had written down the letter found on that soldier I would love a copy. I guess I could keep playing it over and over to copy it. Thank you again.
I’m probably related to the soldier ‘Adkins’. My great grandmother was Adkins from Kentucky 😢Thank you, I’ll do further research and see. If so, I’ll contact the town and let them know.
Love when your videos have my ancestors in them. A lot of history in my family tree. John A. Caudill father was a Revolutionary War solider. Benjamin brother Lt. Col. David Jesse Caudill is buried in Pactolus, Carter County, Kentucky, USA. I'm going have to make a trip to Whitesburg myself from Harlan KY.
Just want to comment on that nice day you were out. Kentucky is such a beautiful state and I envy you doing these videos. Do you have any history knowledge of southeastern Kentucky around the Daniel Boone National Forest area? Thanks for informing us on the history of Appalachia.
When I lived In Ga a road crew working I30 some few miles outside of Stockbridge close to Morrow Ga thwy discovered unmarked cival war burial ground construction was stopped.and archeologist were brought in for excatoon of thr graves!!!! It made on all news chanels m and news papers I was in Jr.HS ....Needless to say the authorites and archologist had this section of ground closed off..It was hilly medium right off expressway..
It's not just the year, but possibly the same day and year. A lot of times you will read their headstone, and they probably were killed in the same battle on the same day.
I dated a girl in Hazard, Kentucky in 1978 when i was playing at the La Citadelle. Her name was Joanne Combs, id bet that grave of Henry Combs was related. Joanne was from Whitesburg. I should have married her!
I really enjoyed this. I have a lot of family and friend’s buried at this cemetery. I recently visited here and wish you could see the flags and green grass. It’s beautiful at this moment.

I am close friends with a large family of Caudill here in Ansted,wv. No clue about relation possibilities. Just had to mention it.
@@kevinharrah2260 I don't know either. You could ask them if they had/have kin in KY
i will do that. Gonna send them this video too. Happy New Years!!@@rhondawarnick5040

What about Greenwood Cemetery in Gettysburg???
@@judypierce7028 Yeah, that is one exception; however, I prefer to explore these kinds of graves in the south.
Thanks Leo. Loss of life, especially away from family and friends is always sad.

Wow, that's so sad. She lost so many children. I wonder what happened for so many of them to die so young. My heart breaks for that poor mother.
My father helped set these stones. He belonged to the Ben Caudill camp.
Very cool thank you
It’s wonderful what they have done‼️Thank you for your history, bringing this all back. Bless you for all you do🌹

Merry Christmas Heather and Leo God Bless

Beautiful video. ❤
I love all your videos ❤
Confederate soldiers were honorable men. God bless them. They would not have burned a hospital.

There is a lot of Caudills listed on the memorial at the Ky va state line few miles from there. Wonder if they were the same.
I use to live in shuttle hole gap just out side whiteburg
My first college roomie was from there. Salt of the earth guy.
R.I.P. CSA GOD REST ALL OF THEM

They died of measles? Sounds like a Northern tactic. Reminds me of the Native Americans. Let’s send them blankets 🙄
U mean they haven't torn that down yet nothing like the Dixie flag and living in the south
Those 10 children most likely died from genetic issues between the parents 😊

It would be a poor decision for a commander to burn a hospital. Even if it's an enemy hospital.
You would think so. But the north deliberately burned whole cities on Sherman's march through Georgia. Trying to scare people into obeying.
That's how the feds still operate. 😐
I really enjoyed this. I have a lot of family and friend’s buried at this cemetery. I recently visited here and wish you could see the flags and green grass. It’s beautiful at this moment.
