Walter Chell created the caesar recipe in 1969 as a signature drink for the opening of new new Italian restaurant in Calgary. The caesar drink was meant to reflect the flavours of spaghetti alla vongole - spaghetti with clams and tomato sauce.
OEB = Over Easy Breakfast. Loved the original place on Edmonton Trail: the staff, the tin ceiling & lights. The fried breakfast potatoes are the best. Yum!
The caesar (or more correctly, the bloody caesar) in Canada is an alcoholic beverage invented in Calgary by Walter Chell (I was lucky enough to work with him for a few years in Toronto and he made one for me). It’s basically a Bloody Mary made with Clamato instead of tomato juice. It doesn’t usually have food in it (except for a piece of celery). You can literally get it anywhere’s in Canada (and some NE US states).
@@scr347 That's incredible, Susan. Thank you for the correct name. I'm definitely going to google this drink and see if they have anything similar here in Texas.
If you come to Toronto there is so much food to try as there are dozens of pockets of culture here and a really great food culture. Definitely try the Korean, Indian, Polish, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, West Indian, Tibetan, Caribbean areas - off the top of my head - and well, whatever you can find. Kensington market. St. Lawrence Market. Ossington restaurants, Queen St West. The Toronto ravine trails. Toronto Islands if you have time. High Park when cherry trees are in bloom. There are some bike paths downtown but be careful if there aren't of course. Toronto Life online has recommendations for places to eat and things to do. Enjoy Canada!!!
We have a version of poutine in the UK that is sold in most fish and chip shops except sometimes instead of curds we use grated cheese and sometimes instead of gravy we have curry sauce as one alternative.
The breakfast restaurant is OEB or " Oeuf Et Bacon" in English that would be "Eggs And Bacon", that said I'm from Calgary and most people can't figure it out,...so much for bilingualism.
Glad you like your Canadian adventure. I have 2 Canadian foods for you to try next time; butter tarts and nanaimo bars. Have a great visit with your family :)
We love the grizzly house like you guys but have another couple of favorites in Banff! Tooloulous in Banff is a little Cajun resturant off Banff Avenue! Fantastic ambience and great food! The kind of place you can get fried aligator and a Catfish PoBoy. Our other favorite is for the budget savy traveler. The Old Spaghetti Factory. You can get a great entre that includes soup or salad, sourdough bread loaf, desert and coffee or tea. All at very reasonable prices! Just a couple of our go too favorites we love! Great videos by the way. I'm originally from Denmark and loved your video from there.
I show my boyfriend your guys' videos to convince him to go to places. Banff is now on our list! Thank you for inspiring us! (I, alone, cannot convince him. I think he thinks I'm just travel-crazy.)
I feel with you, since my tummy always starts rumbling when I check out these Adventurers. It's in the middle of the night right now, but the need for some spicy Buffalo wings have never been greater!
Wait until a 15 pound bird flies at your face when you are trying to cut the grass next to YOUR lake - I carry a rake to protect my face! The joys of living lakeside with wild geese!
I’m sad to see these ones go! This road trip was hella fun! I’m definitely gunna miss it, but I’m happy you guys get to head home and see family and sort out your laptop! hopefully it’s ok now! 🤞🏼looking forward for you guys to come back to Europe!

I grew up calling them “Canadian” geese but their proper name is “Canada “ geese - really common mistake most people make. By the way, google it Smokey’s proper name is simply “Smokey Bear”, not Smokey THE Bear ! L o l

My advice for a laptop Eric, don't buy Apple. They're very expensive to buy and repair (and they do seem to break a lot from what I hear). I'm sure you could find a Windows laptop cheaper. I hope you do come back to England at some point :D
I've had a MacBook Pro (mid-2015) that I bought new and it's still outclassing the three Windows machines my son has purchased. If you ask anyone, Macbook's will last almost a decade before needing to be replaced. The same definitely can't be said for a Windows machine. I'm even editing HEVC footage on it and it handles it easily.
@@TheSeanBampton I think at the end of the day it all just depends on if you are a fan of Apple products and what you do with the computer. If you edit videos etc. a MacBook mayl be useful, Windows computers are better for games. I still think Mac computers are overpriced though.
Duck confit is duck cooked in duck fat. Too bad you weren't there for the Calgary Stampede and Exhibition. Lots of unusual food there! So many good local places to eat in Calgary! Thanks for giving me some new places to try my next Calgary trip! Lots to do too. Try Global Fest next time which is in August which has lots of stuff to do and features a week long international fireworks competition.
"There's a whole buncha ducks!" Video cuts to a small flock of geese and goslings. Ummm... OK. Duck, duck, goose aside, I'm really glad you aren't road tripping in Canada anymore. I was really worried about you guys still being up there with those two spree killers running around literally *right where you were* in your last videos!!! When I heard they are suspected in the killing of a couple who were van camping, I was truly terrified, until I found out who the couple actually was. I'm *very* sorry it happened to them, but _incredibly relieved_ that it didn't happen to you! For future reference, duck confit (pronounced con-FEE, with a very soft n) is heavily salted duck meat slowly cooked in rendered duck fat in the oven. It was a way of preserving the meat back in the days before refrigerators. It's almost like canning foods because it is an _anaerobic_ (no air) storage method. It keeps as long as the cold duck fat is undisturbed. And when it's made of wild duck, it's absolutely unbelievably flavorful. It's still good made with domesticated ducks, and the duck fat will always come from domesticated ducks because wild ducks are quite lean, but the wild duck meat is ten times more flavorful. And once all the confit is gone, the remaining duck fat makes the most delicious fried potatoes of any style (fries, home fries, hash browns, rosti etc...) anyone ever tasted, I promise!
