Lived in calgary my whole life thanks for the video i love keeping up with the best mexican food here. You guys both look like nice kind people great family :) me and my wife travel to mexico at least once a year and we have had so much great mexican food :) here in calgary we mostly get our tacos from Native toungue but we mostly make our own tacos and tostadas to get the closest thing to mexico :)🇲🇽 cheers!
I was so excited to watch your video because I looove mexican food...but the sound of your video is really lacking...especially when Karla is speaking...and sorry Matt but she is the one I really want to hear her opinion as she might have a touch more expertise
That was fabulous. However, you missed the most important evaluation: which restaurant did the twins like best? Of course, they didn't eat anything (yet), but they BOTH seemed VERY INTERESTED in the churrea you were eating. Which restaurant did the twins seemed bored in? Which restaurant did the twins like the atmosphere and vibe? Otherwise, I'm now wanting to come to Calgary to try them all. Thanks
I have recently researched about your UA-cam channel and I faund your UA-cam thumbnail as good but they're not eye catchy so that people can click on your video. As a graphic designer, I can make your thumbnail more eye-catchy and dickable. So may I redesign the thumbnail for you? Let me know. Thanks
Hi Matt, Karla, and young Ladies. Does anyone have Mexican Poutine? The girls were like can we have grown up food now. Are there any good Canadian or Prairie Restaurants in Alberta with Summer season coming up? Have Fun on all your Adventures over the next few months.
Absolutely loved the reviews! Mi familia y yo vivimos en Vancouver e iremos de visita a Calgary este verano ! Gracias ! Me encantaría saber a dónde ir por un buen steak, bueno , bonito y razonable porque ya no hay baratos ! Saludos ! 16:29
Unfortunately when it comes to Mexican restaurants, Calgary falls way behind other major cities. Having lived in Mexico City for several years, each time I try a Mexican restaurant in Calgary it's a major disappointment. For instance, every time I see Tacos Al Pastor on a menu and ask if they have a trompo, they tell me no. Then I'm told they prepare it on a flat grill or skillet. Sorry, that's not how it's done! Not one Mexican restaurant in Calgary has a trompo. For those who don't know what that is, it's basically a vertical skewer or spit much like you would see with shawarma or donair. In Mexico, Tacos Al Pastor is always layered on a trompo, typically with pineapple on the top. A little fact, the whole concept of Tacos Al Pastor can be traced back to large populations of Lebanese immigrants coming to Mexico during the 1800s. Understandably, those people did not eat pork. But the Mexican people embraced and adopted the vertical spit idea (trompo) and Tacos Al Pastor was born. If you know of a Mexican restaurant in Calgary that actually has a trompo, please let me know. None of the restaurants featured within your video use a trompo. I spoke with the owner of The Moose & Poncho the day they opened a little over a year ago. The reason for not having a trompo confirms what I've always thought. Not a large enough Mexican population in Calgary. Therefore not enough turnover to justify preparing them the right way, which is why it's prepared on a flat top grill or skillet in Calgary. Sad.
It's quite simple, the reason people don't order them enough is because they aren't being prepared the correct way, not having a trompo. My wife is from Mexico City. I lived there for 3 years. Nobody in their right mind with knowledge of tacos al pastor would order them knowing that they were cooked in a skillet. Tacos al pastor is extremely popular in Mexico. I've spoken to several restaurants in this city, and many feel the first person to do this here would be quite popular. Unfortunately they are all afraid to get their feet wet, and be the first to do so. Calgary would require a larger Mexican population. Most Mexican restaurants in cities such as Toronto and Montreal use a trompo @@MustDoCanada
It's quite simple, the reason people don't order it is because it's not being prepared the correct way. No Mexican or person with even the slightest knowledge of tacos al pastor would order it, knowing that it was prepared in a skillet and not on a trompo. Of the restaurants I've spoken to in Calgary, several say the first person to this correctly would be very popular. Only problem is, they're all reluctant and afraid to get their feet wet. Calgary would require a larger Mexican population. Whereas cities such as Toronto and Montreal have many Mexican restaurants with trompos. One example of this is El Trompo in Toronto. @@MustDoCanada

@@MustDoCanada went back to Fonda Fora a month ago and thought it was fine but nothing crazy. I loved it the first time. Maybe they lowered their standards a bit? Unsure.
I live downtown (west side)and have never heard of the first Street market...I will def have to go for a walk today... For the churros... Hopefully bring back some memories of Spain
It's an upscale food court, with a lot of variety. Even Guy Fieri from the Food Network has been there two or three times. He did one video about the noodle bar, and another about the Indian kiosk. I'm sure if you search, you will find those videos on youtube.
@@upcycledcopycat8389that's subjective. I've lived in Mexico City for 3 years, and traveled Spain extensively. The best churros in Spain for me are in Andalusia, the city's Cordoba and Sevilla. However, I still prefer the churros at El Moro in Mexico City.
As someone who lives in Calgary, I miss Julio’s Bario, they closed it a while ago but it used to be on Memorial. It was such a fun atmosphere and the food was amazing
Best way to experience new food is to go with someone who is from there. Otherwise most ppl end up eating only what you're familiar with. I admit I drooled on my pillow watching this
Not only is taste subjective but the selection here is limited… if you’re not from here you would likely miss the best Mexican restaurants… you have picked what the typical person who doesn’t do research would picked 🙄 but nice try.

Fun video. Guy Fieri reviewed a couple of restaurants in this First Street Market and gave them both rave reviews.
Yes, we saw him with photos at Moose and Poncho
Hello, to my favorite Canadians. Nice to see you again with a new video.

Yeah Native Tongues is crazy popular. Thanks for the kind words
Awesome video! A recommendation I have is Fresh-adilla in the NE. Everything I've tried there is great.
Also those babies omg they are SO CUTE
haha thank you! for both comments :)
Yes FreShadilla IS the best Real mexican restaurant in YYC, but also Tacos México in Memorial 😄🔥
What a great video!!! new places to try! 🤤
OMG! So nice o see you again! Hope the babies are doing well...
Thank you! Yes, they are doing great. About to travel across Canada for 6 weeks lol. Many videos on the way
@@MustDoCanada Great! Can't wait to see you all travelling through our beautiful country... Good luck!
Can you do the same thing but for country food? I'm going to Calgary soon and I'm looking for that wild west stampede crunch! Greetings from Ottawa :)
Well, Stampede will have lots of strange food as they/re known for that. But what do you mean by country... like steak, beef, etc?

haha it'll be pretty cute when they can actually try it. They're trying some now. We just have to be careful with Sophia as she is allergic to peanuts
Suggest Milpa. Not inexpensive but tasty.
Noted! thanks
This video should put you over 100k subscribers!
haha I hope so!
Tacos mexico was missing!
Yes, that's on our 2nd list now :)
Ohhh I love Chilitos Taberna

Fonda Fora is good but imo Native Tongues is better. I am surprised it’s #4 on your list as it’s known to be really excellent here.
yes lots of people love it but we've never been blown away
I mean it's good. We just thought Fonda Fora was much more unique and high end

Hi you guys, nice too see you....❤ the girls are so adorable ❤
They say thank you :)
Tres market looks like the most Mexican food. The first 3 looked too Canadian.

In Mexico?
@@MustDoCanada yes in Mexico and any where
Yes I,ve been to Calgary for otafest, I be visiting red deer in September.

You're welcome!
When you did the eye roll at 3:17 I knew it was good

yeah that was a cool location too
Hey, great reviews, but you have missed the best in the city: Tacos Mexico on Memorial!!!
We will try it!
That was fun, thanks u 2 (and beautiful babies). Well done, informative and honest.
Our pleasure! Thanks!

haha now ya gotta try em and report back
Which province has the highest Mexican- Canadian populations?
Probably Quebec and Ontario thanks to Toronto and Montreal.
👍👍
Very interesting.
Birria is the best
Wish you would give range of prices for dinner for 2?
Yes, sorry, we can maybe do it in the description at least.

We are from here. There are about 10 noteworthy restaurants but couldn't fit them all in one video. What's your top?
