    Hey guys, I’ve been running the TST 507 TPMS for seven years now. I can testify that it works flawlessly and well worth the price. Mine have saved us from a blow out on four separate occasions. It’s comforting to know your tires, rig and you are protected. Your advice is spot on. Thanks and happy traveling!!!

    For those of you (us) new to RV'ing, use this checklist as a baseline and adopt it to your rig/situation. It is overly thorough. We bought our 5th wheel in April 2023 and still use this (modified) checklist for every departure and arrival. Ours has several different steps based on our circumstances, but this covers nearly every basic issue.. Thank you, Changing Lanes, for the awesome video and allowing us to discover our rig without any undue pressure. This video is still very valid. Best wishes.

    Long time followers and here's proof. After watching this video years ago, we took your recommendation and bought the TST TPMS system. Today, it saved us from taking damage when a tire went on us. The system warned us and we were able to get the rig to a safe location and stopped before the tire shredded. Thanks for all that y'all do! You really saved our butts today!

      Excellent! 😊 Not that you had a tire go, of course, but that your TPMS saved you a ton of headache and damage. 👍🏼 We love hearing stories like this! Thanks for sharing! 😀

    Hey guys, just want to say thank you for this video. I bought a tire pressure monitoring system (770) and so far on this trip. We’ve had two events that would’ve been disastrous without this. We had two tires separately that dropped to one dropped to 38 PSI overnight,the other dropped to 60 and set off an alarm. Metal stems were the issue on both tires with one, revealing a significant crack in the tire (could have blown anytime). We buy our tires at Discount Tire and always get the insurance so our $500+ Goodyear tire was replaced for $125! Thanks again, we are grateful for the advice! We found that ignorance is not bliss in this case!

    ⚠️⚠️⚠️ NOTE!: Ideally, you should weigh your RV and consult your tire manufacturers load / PSI charts for proper inflation. Or even better yet, do position weighing where you weigh each axle or even each tire and use that as a guide. When we talk about using max tire pressure in this video, we are speaking to the majority who are running at, or close to GVWR on stock (or rated same as stock) tires. If you have upgraded, for instance, from E to G rated tires, you might be able to use lower pressure than the max PSI. Every situation is different, so please do your own research on what pressure to use. As always, feel free to ask us questions in the comments below.

      This is what I did. I upgraded to Sailun G rated tires but still run them at 80psi, which is what the manufacturer calls for.
      Safe travels and good health

    I just installed the same system, TST 507 Cap sensors on my RV. I gotta say it's reassuring to see the tire pressure on the monitor. I agree with your review.
    I installed metal valve stems, just because, using the Dill 902-W for aluminum rims. Did it myself. Not sure I'd do that again but I didn't trust any tire stores near me. It was easy with a bead breaker, but my Viair 400 couldn't reseat the bead, not enough volume of air, still had to visit the tire store for air.

    When you're running that many tires, another suggestion is an infra-red temp gun. They're cheap enough and you can use it to compare temps of everything that rotates on bearings. Hubs, wheels, tires, fridge boiler temps, even shooting your radiator top runs is useful stuff from time to time. I would routinely shoot sidewalls of tires to get flexing temps or hubs after a bearing replacement.

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes  6 років тому

      We do have one. Not a bad idea to check the hubs and such. I usually just touch them, but yea... good idea! 😊

    Thank you so much for your very informative videos. We ordered a TPMS from techno rv after watching this video. We did have a blowout last year in our 2013 Fuzion with less than one year old tire, we had less than 800 miles of driving on them. We had never thought about TPMS until buying a new to us 2018 Road Warrior. We have been camping for years and until watching your videos never thought in depth about safety your videos have brought to light for us. Thank you for all your videos we have really enjoyed them. We are also motorcyclist also, we love your video of your rides. Keep on keeping us informed. Thank you both and God Bless Youins!

    Interesting timing - just yesterday I checked that my system was also TST-507 and then ordered the booster from Amazon. I have lost the signal a few times during the annual run to Sturgis and the beeping is annoying. The booster should get rid of that. In any case, since I've obtained the TST-507 units they've saved my bacon at least four times over the last 5 years; letting me know a trailer tire on my 5er is losing air. I now keep an impact driver, 20 ton bottle jack and TWO spares for the camper every time I leave for SD. DO (really DO) pay attention to your tires and pressure before and during any trip with your camper or trailer. Seven years ago, before we had monitors, a tire blew on our earlier camper and we had NO idea until someone drove up, waving to get our attention.. After pulling over, the damage done to the trailer was unreal.. These tire monitors will save you time, trouble and a lot of potential expense.. FWIW.

    So glad we watched your channel last night. Checked the date on my tires today and adjusted the pressures to the required cold max. Well the findings made our day ( we ordered new tires👍) the old ones are 2009 and when the psi adjusted they showed crazy sidewall cracks....😎 We are getting ready to head to Arizona from BC in Canada so finding your awesome vid could not have come a better time.

    I use the eez monitor and am very pleased. Wouldn't be without some kind of system. On a recent trip I had a battery problem on the truck so had to boost it with the rv battery. In the confusion I neglected to check the eez before I hit the road and about 10 minutes afterward found that I was slowly loosing pressure. Was able to stop a couple of times to air up and made it to my destination. I believe that this averted a serious issue on the interstate. Turns out that I had picked up a small nail in the edge of the sidewall. My eez updates pretty quickly except when I turn it off and restart it.

    After 9,000 miles on Westlakes (2017 Reflection), one tire TPMS dropped to 65 psi on I-95 near Philly. I am using the VICTONY TPMS. I got off I-95 and installed the spare at a Valero station to get home (Flemington NJ). The WL tire tread had about a 4 inch crack in the tread. Took that as a sign to replace all 4 WL with Goodyear Endurance (Made in USA). Also installed the metal valve stems to use the “in-line flow” TPMS (to replace the caps sensors) when I decide to buy the TST. Also balanced the new tires. $642 out the door at American Tire shop. Great video! -Jersey Mike

    We took a trip from Houston area to Wyoming a few summers ago with a used pop up camper we bought. It was a single axle and we had one spare tire. Day one; blowout. Put spare on and bought a new trailer tire from Walmart. Day 3; blow out. We replaced tires 4 times on that trip. Very frustrating. I did the research when I got home. Turns out the tires were rated for the exact weight of our camper... empty. So, we were overloading the tires. We just bought a full size travel trailer and are researching TPMS systems. The new rig came with tires made in China, but the RV inspector we hired said they'd do for now and didn't recommend upgrading them until it was time for new tires anyway. Thanks for the video.

    Did you know that someone who is full timing in their RV really does not need to spray any kind protection on your tires! Your tires come with Antiozonant in the sidewalls from the factory to protect your tire from drying out and cracking. Every time you drive the Antiozonant works it’s way to the surface and keeps the sidewalls like new. It’s only when they sit for weeks or months that they dry out.

    I pull my Momentum 394 with a 2008 SRW F350 w/6.4 diesel. It has 37" RT Toyo tires that are rated several hundred pounds greater than the last rear axle weight rating I got. The rims have nearly the same capacity as the tires. However, due to the width of the tires, I'm always concerned about tire temperature and the resulting increase in pressure due to the temperature. I believe the TPMS system you show here would help provide me much peace of mind when towing.
    FYI, I also have 4.56 gears, the truck runs super and hasn't had a single issue pulling the steepest mountain grades in Utah. Brakes have also been updated with slotted/drilled rotors and pads that are approximately 30% greater surface area than stock. Although the truck is in impeccable condition and runs like a raped ape, I do have an F450 in my future.
    Thanks for the great video here and the others you've shared regarding your Momentum. -LBM

    I was hoping the review was on the FORD TRAILER-MOUNTED TRAILER CAMERA - TPMS. This kit comes with sensors, repeater and trailer rear Camera. The reason I was interested in this one was to eliminate the use for all the different monitors since the kit uses Ford factory screen for camera and tire pressure readings. I have heard that the camera only works in reverse. If this is the case I will definitely purchase the TST TPMS. I love you guys channel because you put the work in to give us the absolute truth. Thanks

      We looked into the Ford integrated TPMS and Camera.. A great idea but very difficult to implement. Hard wired camera, internal only TPMS sensors, etc... Thank you so much for making this video. As you know I absolutely loved the T24, T12, T0 video with a passion and I had to bookmark techno rv because I fell in love with their site. I will be buying quite a few things from there to be prepared once I’m good to go. I like planning ahead even years ahead so I can spread out the cost of these items since some of them are huge purchases. The reason why I’m commenting is because I was looking at this system after you mentioned it in the previous video and when I looked I had no damn clue what a flow thru was. I mean I had an idea you keep it on and it hooks up to the compressor but what I DIDNT know was use steel valve stems because of the weight. N0w I in0w to make sure ahead of time or just install the steel stems so I won’t have to take the damn caps off each time I air up or down because my trailer will be an off road system. So, thank you thank you my brother and sister. I love these l0ng informative videos. I love the chemistry you both put out on camera and I can see the love on how you do the bulk because of your wife’s illness (as it should be) and she takes care of what she can. That’s a true union at its fullest and that makes me smile. I recently went through a tragedy and lost one of my sons (a twin) and my 20 year marriage just dissolved. So I’m a lone wolf soon to be nomad and I can really appreciate your loving relationship. Anyways, enough of my sob story. I just wanted you to know that your work and efforts are not in vain. I just ordered the TST507 with pass-thru from TechnoRV, to replace my TireMinder A1A. I love everything about the TST 507 except one thing: It takes forever (forever = 4 minutes and 45 seconds, give or take a couple seconds) to pick up the signal from all four tires, even with the range extender installed. The TireMinder A1A only took a few seconds for our RV. I just need to remember to turn on the TST 507 when we start to hook up our rig, so it'll be operational by the time we pull out of the campsite :-)

    We are fanatics about tie safety. I've seen so many blowouts and how they will damage the side of the rigs. I put commercial load range E tires on my 5th wheel. We moved from the G tire. It was the best thing we did. The sidewalls on the G rate were too weak for what we needed. We get less bounce in our rig when traveling. We always replace then when they get old and we always rotate. My next purchase is a TPMS.

    Last 2 Holiday Ramblers, One trailer and one fifth wheel both came with Goodyear tires and both of them blow a tire right around 3 years. I replace at 3 three years even on my heavy equipment trailers for my farm trailers. I didn't know when either trailer blow a tire, I was pulling bothe with a 3/4 ton Doge 4x4 Cummins and the fifth wheel was a HRC 34 ft.imperial Custom wide body.Never a wiggle when either tire blow. I have the TST 507 with cap sensors and color monitor. It's fantastic. I use the repeater, but don't think I really need it.
    Since I'm lazy, I love not having to manually check tire pressure often, just turn the system on. I like the color monitor because the outline of the vehicle doesn't scream "Semi-trailer" like the B&W does.

    I’m a certified master mechanic, son of an owner operator truck driver/mechanic, and a 35 year RV owner. I disagree with one statement you made, every Chinese tire on the road IS a bomb waiting to explode. Until 2 years ago I had never had an issue with any trailer tire. In 2015 we bought a new 40’ Elkridge fifth wheel for our retirement and for the first 2 years it was stored indoors for 5 months of the year. In 2018 we headed out from Chattanooga to South Carolina for a week and then on to Michigan. We parked in our daughter’s driveway in Michigan and the next day when I went outside one of our tires was low so I pulled it off and took it to Discount tire to get it repaired. After a few minutes the guy came out and asked me to come back and see what he found, adding that he had never seen this before. When they took the tire off the rim there was no hole on the inside to correspond to where the air was coming out on the exterior. The different layers (laminations) of the tire were separating and the air was making its way through the different layers until reaching the outside. That’s when it occurred to me that when I took the tire off I noticed the tire was not it’s normal relatively flat profile across the tread surface, but was more round like an inner tube would be. I noticed that one of the other tires had the same profile so went back and got that one as well. Just before we left home I saw a story in Trailer Life about how Goodyear had just started manufacturing an RV tire in the USA again because of all of the issues with Chinese tires. So I had them order up a couple of the new Goodyear’s for me. I then got online and started searching online and found hundreds of stories about Chinese RV tire failures. Prior to this I always just figured that all of the folks I was seeing along the road were just ignorant about caring for their tires or didn’t realize that just because their truck will go 80mph with the RV attached that doesn’t mean the trailer tires are rated for it. I check my tire pressure before I hit the road every time, I keep an infrared temperature gauge in the truck to check tire, brake, and wheel bearing temps at every rest area and gas stop, and I know what my weight is before I go (I always travel with empty holding tanks), and I keep the speed at 65mph or less because the typical Chinese RV tire is only rated for 65mph. So anyway, we did our camping in Michigan and then headed back to Tennessee. As we were going past Lexington Kentucky on I-75 KABOOM! A tire on the drivers side of the RV explodes and rips off the plastic trim around the wheels and bends the aluminum skirting all up. Off to the shoulder I go and change the tire. We get back on the road and right in the middle of Sunday night traffic in Knoxville KABOOM! The 4th Chinese Towmax (Towblast or Blowmax) tire explodes with similar plastic and aluminum damage along with shredding the nearby waterproof fabric layer nearby. Off to the shoulder I go again only this time I don’t have a spare. I had to call 911 and tell them I was leaving the RV on the side of the road because I couldn’t get a tire until Monday. Now I have 4 American made tires and have not had any problems. Also the new Goodyear’s are rated for 80mph instead of 65. You also mentioned checking tread depth on trailer tires, RV tires are made with an entirely different tread compound than automotive tires. They have much harder tread compound because they don’t need the handling characteristics that automotive tires do. If you wear out the tread on an RV tire during its expected lifetime then you either have serious axle alignment issues or you are running 500,000 miles per year.

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes  4 роки тому

      Sounds like you had an E rated tire (65mph)? So many RVs used to have those installed and they would blow.
      I think most have started using G or H in the past couple of years. We have over 25K on our G rated Wesstlake tires with no issue. Most trailer tires are made in China. When you have a high percentage of something in a data sample, that sample will inevitably be skewed toward that sample. Lots of Chinese tires means lots of failures. I'm not saying that the US made ones aren't better.. They likely are. But I also don't think every tire from China is a "bomb waiting to explode".

    I just left home last Sunday headed to Arizona for Thanksgiving. I got about 13 miles down the road and got my first blowout on my 2016 toyhauler. I had Westlakes, about 10k miles on the tires, and they were about 2 years old. It was total tread separation. TPMS wouldn't have helped me on this one. Trust me, I did everything right. I always check the psi, inspect the tires, I don't overload, and I stay at about 55 mph. It ripped out all my wiring under the slide and broke my fender skirt. I was able to repair the wiring and I changed out all the tires for Goodyear Endurance. Funny thing is, this was suppose to be the last trip before we replaced the tires, because we didn't completely trust the Westlake brand. I wish I had listened to that little voice in the back of my head. So anyway, be careful out there if you're staying with the Westlakes.

We are running a 42.5' Toy Hauler with a Ford F450 dually and really appreciated your advise about the direction you went on the choice of your sensors for the duallies. Interesting topic for RV haulers, tire problems. Maybe a review of what you have validated concerning tires and why they tend to have blow outs when even though there is good tread, pressure for the intended trip and type of tire. There's a lot of problems with folks who simply go buy a toy hauler or RV and follow suit yet, new tires or not, they suffer blow outs and not from road hazards. Many owners have suggested the GVWR of the RV's axles are too light thus the tires are right around maximum loads all the time. Then, there are the tire dealers, even those mom & pop tire shops who will say, "you have to have a trailer tire" for these trailers or else. Even so, those same properly matched tires fail, even when not loaded. Is it possible the RV manufacturers aren't fitting correct GVWR axles with their many rigs? Some say that's where the issues are, the 3,500 lb axles are no good for trailering medium loads or higher. From whats on paper, I tend to agree. Get the 7,000 lb axles and if they aren't offered on the rig you want, don't buy it.
    @Changing Lanes Your BAT came with tire pressure monitors from Ford, didn't it?

      Automatically filling to the sidewall pressure is bad information. Sidewall psi is the max psi for the load rating of the tire not rigs axle rating. Can cause poor handling, rough ride, and uneven wear.

    The number one reason for blowouts is exceeding the magic 65 mph. No matter how well the tires are maintained. No matter what perfect pressure you have.

    • @wyoboatman
      @wyoboatman 5 років тому

      Low tire pressure is number one, the best tire will fail with low pressure the side wall flex will build heat and eventually blow. Number 2 is damaged tires, number three is worn out tires, number 4 is probably sun damaged tires but that could be part of number 2. Staying at 65 MPH isn't in the top 5.

    That letter rating is a DOT tire speed rating. If your traveling at highway speeds (55+) you would want a G rated tire or higher based on your vehicles weight and tire dimensions. #2 Never top off a Nitrogen filled tire with air. Check tires regularly note Cold pressure and Hot pressures. Never let your tire exceed maximum tire pressures. Try to keep your tires as matched as much as possible.

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes  5 років тому

      Have to disagree on 2 items there. Maintaining proper pressures across the country and 4 seasons, one needs to be able to add and remove pressure. Air is simple and free. Adding air to nitrogen filled tires simply changes the mix. No harm can come from it as long as the pressure is right. IMO, nitrogen in tires is a scam. Very little benefit for something that's impossible to maintain when traveling full time.
      In regards to never going over max, that is not true. The max pressure rating is cold and they are meant to go over that number when running. We run our RV tires at 110 cold and they get up to around 120-125 when traveling in the summer.

  • @loydmeeks9553
    @loydmeeks9553 5 років тому

    You need metal valve stems. I have the cap style EZ Tire and we have had 2 rubber stems. One was when I was checking air and it just broke off when reinstalling sensor. Today we had a failure at 70mph. Fortunately as soon as the alarm sounded we got off the road without ruining the tire. The Goodyear dealer changed them out for me.
    I used a toggle to my booster also. The week point is the batteries as some last longer than others so be sure and carry spares. If you have a sensor won't read it more than likely needs a new battery,
    I have the same air compressor so be careful the head can get very hot.

    I just ordered your recommended TST. We have a new 2022 Thor Windsport 29M and I will be towing a flat trailer until the Bronco gets built. On my RV the Thor sticker inside next to drivers seat recommendations cold inflation pressure of 82 PSI on all RV tires and the Goodyear Load Range G 245/70R19.5 allow 110 PSI at a MAX. LOAD 4540 LBS SINGLE / 4410 LBS DUAL. Seeing what you would recommend we set our tire pressure at? I’ve been doing 90 PSI. I guess we should get our rig on a CAT scale however, I don’t believe we are overloaded. Anyway it was interesting you are running max tire pressure on your 5th wheel. • @ChangingLanes

      I would take the GVWR of the trailer, divide it by the number of tires on it to get a general idea of the load on each tire... Obviously, hitting a CAT scale is even better, but rough math will get you a starting point. Take that per-tire load and look it up on an inflation chart for that tire. I think this is the right one: www.goodyearrvtires.com/pdfs/rv_inflation.pdf

    Great, informative video, as always. Skimming through the comments, I didn't see any comments regarding preference of cap sensors vs flow through. We have a similar rig as you, Solitude and Chevy dually. I like the idea of the "low profile" that the cap sensors provide, but the flow-through sensors seem to be more convenient (i.e., less of a headache when airing up). In fact, the valve stems of my outer dually tires are short and point inward, while the stems for the inner dually tires, of course, are deeply tucked away (making the flow through seem like a better option there). After using them for a while now, do have any opinion on which you prefer (or would prefer from the beginning)?

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes  5 років тому

      Hey, Jack. I would prefer flow-thru all around I think, IF they would fit on the truck. The way the valve stems are on our F350, the flow-thrus fir, but puts the flow thru stem too close to the rim, rendering them unusable for airing up. Love having the flow-thrus on the RV though.
      Perhaps flow thrus would be good with some kid of valve extenders that make them accessible.
