Incredible...My favorite Hagar tune and in particular this version...The "Live Without a Net concert was my "Go to" as a kid....Probably 11-12 year old kid! God this one hurt!
Imagine all the billions of years the universe has existed and we just happened to live during the time this music was created. RIP EVH!!! You were an amazing musical genius!!!
Ed was absolutely smokin' on this one! I really believe this is one of his greatest songs; it's an absolute onslaught of tremendous guitar from start to finish. Should be required listening in grade school.
The world is a little less bright today. Have dreaded this moment for years. Thank you Edward for everything you gave us. You inspired myself and millions of others to play. You will never be forgotten.
Everyone here knows Eddie wrote his own ticket, he loved those ciggies But when you could see the joy in an artist when they’re bringing it, you can feel their fulfillment ! This passing cut deep, I’m still hurting.
This is how I will always remember EVH. I had seen them twice with Diamond Dave, in 1979 and 1984, and they were great. BUT..Eddie and Sammy knew they had a good thing with this lineup. Eddie was at the top of his game here, not just because he’s kickin so much ass...cause he always did that, but just look at how much fun they are having. The show I saw in Fort Worth was as good or better than this one. RIP EVH. This one hurts. The world doesn’t seem right with you not in it anymore.
They were such a good team. So in sync with each other and having so much fun! Must have been the coolest thing ever to be there for this. Amazing performance all around, but every note in Eddie's solo is so perfect and precise!
SuperGaleford no not really. I find myself impressed with Kings of Leon's live performances lately, but this amount of energy is unmatched. Angus Young from AC/DC had this energy haha!
I’m listening to this again after reading that Edward is having health issues. Man, he was so invincible and immortal in 1986. Praying for your recovery and your peace, Ed. Thanks for making me want to play the guitar. If they released this song as the first single off of this album instead of Why Can’t This Be Love, I think the Hagar era would be viewed differently than it is. This song is just as rocking, if not more, than anything that they did on the first 6 albums.
There were always two people in the rock industry who sounded the same in concert as they did on the album/CD, Steve Perry of Journey, his vocals were impeccable and Eddie Van Halen's guitar riffs...Music will never this talented or great again..RIP Eddie ..
Alex's drums, Mikey's bass, Sammy's voice, Eddie's blazing guitar. It doesn't get any better than this. I remember seeing this for the first time on VHS and thinking, what in the world did I just see? Eddie's guitar solo takes you on a hypnotic journey and drops you off at the edge of a volcano. It will be a very long time before we ever see a guitar player like Eddie, if we ever do.
Was at this show in Connecticut. Seen this tour in 3 cities. San Diego, Los Angeles and Connecticut. Ha 5150 best song with Hagar. It just rocks Eddie shows why he's the best.
My brothers - Jimbro - MADE THE BANNER ! Sammy shows off & then places it over DA KING ! He passed away last June - BUT HE LIVES FOREVER HERE ! Oh ya I was there as well ! And your the world video launch at Toad's Place in NEW HAVEN CT ! I love this so much !
Greatest of all times always jumping around having a blast an smiling that sweet smile so glad I got to see him in concert the 5150 tour. love me some eddie 💘 he will be greatly missed 😔
When the whole band drops out except for Eddie right after his guitar solo and he launches back into the intro riff of this song is simply sublime!!!!!! To e for days!!!!👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’ve always thought this version, particularly the solo, is some of their best work, and certainly my favorite. I had this on VHS, and watched it a bunch as a teenager. Back when EVH died, a content creator (Michael Palmisano) hosted a viewing party of this concert on his yt channel, that night. He’s a musician, and guitar teacher, and seems to be an all around good dude who loves music. Getting his commentary & insights about this concert recording, and reading comments & stories from other folks in the live chat, made it a cool experience, and a fitting way to honor EVH. It’s what he would want most from anyone who enjoys his music.
11/16/23 Thank you VH for the heavenly music. There will never be a band as good as you. This particular song is an absolute gem. It brings tears to the eyes. It will never, ever, grow old to the ears and soul. As a bass player, it is a pure joy to hear the super human talent of this incarnation of Van Halen. Love , Love , Love Thanks !
And the best song was Sammy's I can't drive 55, funked up to the max! Plus Sammy sitting on a stool and singing On Eagles Wings...people were crying around me.
I think this song demonstrates how very rare and uniquely talented Eddie was. Since the beginning of time I have never seen anyone who has that much talent on a guitar 🎸 I just wish God gave me that same gift. Eddie Van Halen = The ultimate legend!
RIP Eddie! You will always be loved! This video should be a cure for depression! Also I’ve never seen a rock band live that dances while they sing and play the instruments! Best band ever!
Discovering this concert at my local video store in 1989 changed my life and guitar playing. I practiced with Eddie for years, get well brother ! And thank you
I had the VHS cassette of this concert as a teenager, and I'm amazed that I didn't wear it out (still have it 37 years later and it still plays!). I love the live version of this song, and I think it's far superior to the studio version, which lacks the energy and awesome extended guitar solo. Eddie's energy, athleticism, and showmanship are off the charts in this concert. He's like an Olympic athlete /guitar god performing gymnastics and guitar heroics at the same time. I feel blessed that I got to see Van Halen live back in '88 during the Monster's Of Rock Tour. I worshiped at the altar of EVH , and I will forever celebrate his legacy and mourn his passing. 🤘💔🙏
I remember seeing this tour in Evansville with BTO opening for them. It was one of the best concerts I've seen. They were having so much fun along with the crowd.
Best live performance of any song by any band I’ve ever seen. RIP Eddie
Incredible...My favorite Hagar tune and in particular this version...The "Live Without a Net concert was my "Go to" as a kid....Probably 11-12 year old kid! God this one hurt!
I wore 2 VHS tapes out of this concert.
This concert changed my life. These guys were on it, tight, having fun, and just a damn good band. Miss this, them and the king EVH. RIP
Sammy can actually sing
This song is so underrated. One of my faves
This song is so hard to play on guitar.... eddie is just running around like its nothing, he is such a beast on the guitar my goodness
That fucking chord is hard as hell man, RIP guitar god
he's able to play it with a curtain on his head at 5:52
I've been playing it all day-sitting down on my bed. Got it right once in two hours. Lol.
Eddie always made guitar look like child's play.
That axe was an extension of his body.
Imagine all the billions of years the universe has existed and we just happened to live during the time this music was created. RIP EVH!!! You were an amazing musical genius!!!
Ok
never thought of it like that, deep.
Good point. We may never see another.
Yeah truly we are blessed it's not looking like bands this good will exist ever again
1968 to 1980
Absolutely one of the greatest guitar solos of all time
Check out the live version of this in Japan. The solo is different but incredible as well
100 percent agree
It is a sad day 10/6/2020. R.I.P. Edward Van Halen. Thank you for all the great music. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
2020 can't get any worse.
Thank you
6:48.....Brothers thinking, "remember when we were kids and dreamed of this moment"
Their connection was something very special. Praying for Alex, Wofie, Valerie, and Janie. We miss you, Eddie.
And Alex looking at Ed before the solo like "What the fuck are you gonna pull out of your ass now"?
I feel so awful for Alex...such a tragic loss for him.
@@vmc5151 And His Little Bro delivered.
Probably my favorite 5150 album song and the version I prefer to the studio.
Ed was absolutely smokin' on this one! I really believe this is one of his greatest songs; it's an absolute onslaught of tremendous guitar from start to finish. Should be required listening in grade school.
He didn’t really even miss a lick.
The solo is 🔥
Me too, the whole band is just killing it and that solo can’t be touched
The world is a little less bright today. Have dreaded this moment for years. Thank you Edward for everything you gave us. You inspired myself and millions of others to play. You will never be forgotten.
Honestly...Because of his health,I dreaded this as well. This one hurt a little bit....
@@richevans609 This one hurt a LOT 💔
Everyone here knows Eddie wrote his own ticket, he loved those ciggies But when you could see the joy in an artist when they’re bringing it, you can feel their fulfillment ! This passing cut deep, I’m still hurting.
@@robertcastellanos8924 I know Robert. It wasn’t a surprise. I’d been dreading that day for many years. I’m still very sad 3 months down the road.
Losing him hurt all of us, my heart still breaks
Wow. Just wow. This was Van Halen at their top. It doesn’t get old. My daughter born in 2005 loves this band. Her name…….Halen!!!
My friend has a grandson born 2007 named Haylen, for the same reason!!
Sooo original...👍 to hear this
Too cool!
That’s awesome. ❤
You’re all in. 👍
Most underrated VH song ever.
It was a masterpiece in my opinion.
I LIVED on 5150. FOR A SOLID YEAR OF MY LIFE. Thank you, Eddie, Sammy, Mike and Alex ( yeah, you too, DLR). You were my soundtrack.
I 100% agree!!!! Way underrated
Probably the greatest guitar Solo of all time
EVH imitated but never duplicated
Let's please keep his spirit alive 🙏
RIP EDDIE- this has to be the Best he has EVER played on this tour....
A modern day masterpiece!! Easily the best Sammy song! Nothing like it before or since, so original. Epic!!
100%!!!
This solo is epic. All time favorite
Did anybody, any of us even realize what we were witnessing when this performance came out?? They were the biggest rock band on the planet!!!
And I was at that exact concert, holy shit, how epic🤣!My whole world stood still...🎶🎶🎶🎸🎸🎸❣️
Just a few short years later rap and hip hop came onto the pop culture scene and never went away. Grunge killed rock and then killed itself.
Kings!!!!!❤
Yuppers those of us that Saw It Did.👍
I think I did internally, when I saw this as a kid I decided to play music
My favourite Van Halen song. period.
You have great taste my friend. The band is tremendous on this one and Ed is absolutely brilliant.
All are good
And there you have it…one of the best live rock performances ever
3:16 that live version of the 5150 solo was the best I ever heard.
This is how I will always remember EVH. I had seen them twice with Diamond Dave, in 1979 and 1984, and they were great. BUT..Eddie and Sammy knew they had a good thing with this lineup. Thank God I was alive to witness this band and this monster of a guitar player. Thank you Eddie, R.I.P brother
13 year old me, my first ever concert.
HOLY SHIT
never looked back
LONG LIVE KING EDWARD
👑🔴⚪️⚫️👑
They were such a good team. So in sync with each other and having so much fun! Must have been the coolest thing ever to be there for this. Amazing performance all around, but every note in Eddie's solo is so perfect and precise!
Daniel Gilbert does any contemporary rock band put forth this kind of energy anymore?
SuperGaleford no not really. I find myself impressed with Kings of Leon's live performances lately, but this amount of energy is unmatched. Angus Young from AC/DC had this energy haha!
Daniel Gilbert yea but he was the only one in that band. All four of these guys here are pretty into it.
That was Eddie.
I'll miss you, Edward Van Halen. You were such a huge part of my teenage years and musical landscape. Thank you for all the great music.
I still have this on VHS!
I could listen to this album all day! 5150 is awesome! Killer licks and lyrics!!
the album had only been out a few weeks, so many people there were hearing this for the first time
5 months.. came out March this was august .. I was there

And I'm listening to this the day after Eddie passed away. :-(
In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. - John 1:4-5
Single greatest moment in all of music history….
There were always two people in the rock industry who sounded the same in concert as they did on the album/CD, Steve Perry of Journey, his vocals were impeccable and Eddie Van Halen's guitar riffs...Music will never this talented or great again..RIP Eddie ..
ed sound nothing like the records, because he somehow sound EVEN BETTER LIVE
There will never be again another guitar player that has influenced the world with such happiness and love and effortless
Alex's drums, Mikey's bass, Sammy's voice, Eddie's blazing guitar. It doesn't get any better than this.

Hell yeah, from start to finish Ed just smokes on this one!!!
I was at San Diego and Los Angeles as well- the best Van Halen tour, I saw them many times and I have to say this tour was the best!
New “Halen” Connecticut!!
Yep, New Haven aka "New Halen" CT is where this concert was filmed
At 6:48 that little head nod Alex gives Eddie as they’re looking at each other…..
Van Halen firing on all cylinders. A thing of beauty. 🤙🏼
RIP EVH. Enough already, 2020.
Agreed! That's why I am here too... this tour was my favorite out all the times I saw them in concert... 😭 Rest in peace Eddie, you will be so missed.
The ALMIGHTY Van Halen!💖 These concerts were the best time of my LIFE!👍👍
He's smiling and having fun and doesn't even look when he's playing absolutely amazing
This song really shows eddies amazing writing beginning to end a masterpiece of a song.
I was there,both nights ❤, great name, Halen 🌹🎶🌹!
I’ve listened to this video / song and I feel it’s their best.
this was Happy Eddie for sure... RIP Eddie, may we all meet on the other side... and thank you...
5150 will forever be my favourite van halen song
I agree. I forgot how good they sounded live!
Best album in the world. Hands down. Thanks Ed 4 everything.
Ed’s guitar tone on this tour. The vibrato at 4:29 🔥🔥🔥
The energy, the joy, the perfection 🤌
This is such a great song...
5:30 just gives me chills EVERY time that break and restart is legendary
R.I.P. Eddie. We always said your music reached the heavens. Now we hope they reach back down to us.
My favorite tour... rest in peace Eddie.😞😭 I saw Van Halen many times in concert with and without Sammy and by far my favorite was the 5150 tour.
EVH is my reason for choosing to play guitar. RIP Legend. Thanks for inspiring me. You'll never be forgotten.

Just like Hendrix that guitar looks like it's a part of his body he moves so fluid with the guitar
Always been my favorite song off that album.
Eddie Van Halen forever! RIP to the king of 6 strings and 10 fingers.
Alex hits the drums out of time to get Eddie's attention to the "KING" banner Sammy is holding.
iloveamerica11 Wow, that’s a good catch, man. I never noticed that before. 🥁
I hope Alex is doing well. I can't imagine what it's like to lose your favorite jamming buddy and brother all at once.
Now that’s a crew that never missed practice. 🤘🏼
R.l.P. Eddie you are going to be greatly missed!

EVH 'lightening in a bottle', right here on my screen. So lucky to have this now that he's gone. RIP Eddie.
Even crazier than he never took a lesson
God made a God when he created Eddie Van Halen
Let's keep his spirit alive for ever

I saw them in Pullman Washington in 1987 and BTO opened. It was fantastic! Ill never forget it...
How isn't this viral? One of the best concert songs/solos of all time.
Perfection!!! A guitarist has to explain to me how he plays and jumps all over the place??? I know timing is involved but Jesus Christ. Just amazing ❤
What an amazing performance. Big Eddie, and Sammy What a vocalist🤘
At was fortunate to be at this show.
This was the best song in the set...
R I P Eddie! Thanks for the memories!!!
At 9 years old I sat in the living room completely in awe of this performance. Wore the VHS out. 43 now and still in complete awe.
Incredibly insane 🤯 EVH""""
Among the many jaw-dropping guitar solos Eddie Van Halen played in a career, this one still stands alone. Good God.
Utterly perfect
Magic!!! ❤
R I P Eddie !
Such a great track, 5150 is my favorite album. EVH fricken amazing!
They were on top of the world!! Bad ass kick as song...🎶🎸🥁🎚🎤
If I could get Doc's DeLorean, I'm going back in time to New Haven and this concert.
Simply the best live video of MY favorite VH song🤘🏿🤘🏿
Good lord. I never saw or heard this version before. It's my favorite Sammy era song.
VAN HALEN = UNbridaled FUN & JOY … thanks for all the memories and emotions!
The greatest of all time
