We bought our first set of encyclopedias from a door to door salesman in the mid 60s. They were the Internet of knowledge back in the days. Loved them.
Ethan, the words on the binder of the encyclopedias tells you what is in that volume. We used these back when I was a kid for all our reports and other homework. My parents had an old set of Britannica and they bought World Book when I was in grade school. Encyclopedias were great resources in the days before Google.
This house reminds me of a home in the UK ❤e 🏠🏠that is a huge master bedroom . I didn't think stucco could hold up in the cold Thank you for sharing this awesome home 🏡🏡 Ethan
I really enjoyed this stunning time capsule, but I have to fuss about one thing: Retro is something you buy today that looks like something old, like some of the 80s-style T-shirts I see you wearing. Retro is NOT something that looks like something from the 60s or 70s because it is actually IS from back then. That is properly called vintage. Vintage is stuff from back in the day. This is a vintage house with many interesting vintage features. Outside of that one nitpick, I particularly liked the kitchen cabinets and that great floor in the room where you started. Thanks for sharing these great old houses with us.
Another great find! I love the blue bathroom. Back in the day there were color choices! You could even get toilet paper in different colors. Very nice house.
Our house was built in 1970. When we bought it 1999 it still had the original pink bath tub and pink double sink vanity. We replaced the vanity and sinks but kept the tub. The house next door had the original green bath color and one more up the hill had the blue.
The light fixture in the blue bathroom was awesome! I was telling you to turn on the light, but you didn't hear me 😆. That house was a crazy mix of historic/old and mod '60's. I'm surprised that they didn't try to get one consistent style idea throughout when they added on. Gave it a very odd vibe.
Fascinating old dual epoch house. Lovely intact collectible Britannica Encyclopedia and Sony Trinitron television. Thanks for preserving the history of this residence.
Hello Ethan, this old time capsule is truly fascinating!!! I love the encyclopedias, back when I was growing up there was no Internet or cell phones so you had to go to the library or your family had a set of encyclopedias!!! I was lucky, we had a set of World Book encyclopedias that I spent many hours with researching high school homework assignments!!! Thanks for sharing another exciting video!!! 👍👍🙂
Those TVs weren't instant on; they took a minute to warm up before the picture came up. Also, the toaster if I recall correctly is Proctor-Silex (s-eye-lex). I grew up seeing many fireplaces closed off just like those were. They started heating homes using a furnace and an open fireplace pulled the heat right up the chimney and out of the house.
That bathroom off the kitchen with the blue sink and frosted windows was EXACTLY what my grandparents has in their split level built in 1971. Love the channel, I get warm nostalgia from ones like these. Keep up the amazing work, man!
Thanks, Ethen, This was a really great find. We live in the redwood, and the house used to be a cabin and now it's two birds thick. And it is 100 years old.
Don't know exactly when you did it - but CONGRATULATIONS on 100K. Your persistence and amazing videos have gotten you there. Again - well done Ethan. 🔥
Can you imagine going down that little narrow stair case in a Hoop skirt??? What a cool old home. Thanks Ethan The old fireplaces may be blocked or do not draft well anymore. 1960s model TV. That's how us old times had to watch tv's. Manuel turn knobs.
Not much from the 1800’s left but a few original walls. No farmhouses we’re split that way at that time. 1958-1960’s kitchen. I had a house with the same. Didn’t you check for window dates? There were some cool features. Thank you for the tour.😊😊
Wow If from the 1800’s the “kitchen” would have been the the room you called the dining room (with the beams). I can’t remember what they were called though. It was the room you cooked, ate, read, sewed and entertained in. I had a TV just like that in my room as a kid and the encyclopedias! All the generations..if the walls could talk! I don’t know about Canada but if it’s torn down do people get to come in and rescue the windows, doors, floors, etc. For others to love?
Nice job on the video! That door latch in the basement that’s stuck is recent. I was there back in early July and I was able to get through. You’re right though there’s not much on the other side. Just an old empty workshop with stone walls, low ceilings and a TON of cobwebs haha
❤❤❤....nice house! Very unique! Is this what they would call a mid century style? Its in great shape! Hope they wont have it tore down! It would be great to restore! Thanks for the tour! 😊
What a delightful place...love the basement, wallpaper and carpet..stairs were super ...thank you Ethan for the tour ..absolutely loved it..stay safe well and happy 💋 😊
Thank you for sharing Ethan. This house has a lot of history behind it. I’m kind of curious about how many families actually lived in that home because there was a lot of renovations by the looks out of it and how it started out would be so cool to see and then along with the add-ons anyways you take care and thank you for sharing. Really enjoyed it. You be safe out there.🤠
If I had to guess… that house, or at least the main portion… pre-dates the 1900’s… the addition and much of the decor shows 1960’s… but the architecture… much older.. much much older… and the fireplaces being closed off… someone found out that if they are not in use.. the stack effect sucks the heat out of the house…
@@nataliedeshow768 Well, sometimes it's a matter of they wanted to change of scenery orrrrr they passed away orrrr one of the owners (hubby/wife) passed and couldn't take care of it.. The possibilities are endless..🤷♂️
fantastic find Ethan you and Noah explore together the rooms were huge and that old Sony television set was a a1979 Trinitron they were great television sets of their time they were solid state made so there were no vacuum tubes to burn out but a great TV thanks Ethan for a great video see you in the next one
congrats on the 100K, that is a beautiful retro house, I loved the beams on the ceilings, the bubble glass fixtures and cabinet doors! the covers on the old fireplaces are gorgeous, thank you for sharing
Really interesting house to combine two styles like this. The owners must have been creative to think that out. The exception was the kitchen, which lost its character. I'd put a retro breakfast nook along that side wall with wraparound seating and a table in the center. Felt a slight creep factor upstairs and it wasn't because of the mask on the window. Thanks for the special explore Ethan!
What an interesting and unique house. Love the combination of styles, the old and the modern. Seemed in great shape. I’d love to be able to restore something like this. Nice old fireplaces. Maybe there had been chimney fires and they had to be blocked off but interesting artwork on the panels blocking them. Two sets of double doors on that room were cool. Always love old light fixtures and those glass doorknobs. Unique wallpapers. It’s interesting how wallpaper is so durable and not faded. This would be an interesting place to live. Will be a shame if it’s destroyed. Would have liked to see the outside. Thanks for this epic adventure Ethan. Take care be well and stay safe!
They're not there to 'block off' the fireplace; those are decorative fireplace covers and you put them on when the fireplace isn't in use. They are meant to be there, part of the house! What an amazing, amazing old place; I love, love, loved all the wooden panelling and the cabinetry in the kitchen; the beams on the dining room ceiling!
The Victorians liked symmetry and rooms would have sets of things, like two doors, if you check one of the upstairs bedrooms there are two closets on either side. I've seen a house that had an opening closet on one side of the room and another closet door on the other side, but it didn't open, it was just decorative.
I'd love to live in such a stunning farmhouse, obvious I would update some key features but would keep say 90% of the overall esthetic. You can hoewer build something like this I guess.
A true Time Capsule indeed Erhan. Cingrats on the subs. Super happy for you Ethan. Yay, good job. Great house, very interesting. Welcome to the Jungle huhEthan. Congrats again, so awesome. ❤❤❤❤❤
It looks like the addition was done in the 60s, and the front of the house was kept the same. The smaller rooms and narrow hallway and stairway would be from the 1800s. If you look in the room where there was a small table, you can see the division in between what would’ve been the kitchen and the dining room. Pretty cool house!❤
Love this one Ethan, the creaky floors are amazing.need a bit of work mostly with the mechanics (electric, heating and cooling.some ceiling and wall repair.wouldnt change a thing in kitchen and dining areas well I would turn half the dining into a home library.
If an elderly person last lived there its possible they accidently overpaid their bill and with everything mostly off the bill wouldnt be that high. Thats just a guess however.
I'm guessing the original kitchen might have been near where the short table was. What an interesting house. It would have been neat to see the outside.
This one was very cool. This had a lot of older additions to this property. The covers on the fireplaces were temporary, however, they were beautiful. The bedrooms were very interesting & more up to date. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Ethan 😎🏎💨,very cool old house,I liked the slate floor by the staircase and the rest of the house looked like it had character, wonder who were the first people that lived there in the 1800’s,you should find out and see what they looked like, well I mean how they dressed back then🏡,can’t wait to see your next one 😎🏎 that was funny how you laughed and lost for words for a second 🤣
The upstairs and and kitchen were cool. In the kitchen it looks that tv could be before my time honestly. The took a moment before the tube warmed up before seeing the image. If it was working you would have heard the audio first. There was also a cool trick that you could do with these tvs. If you come across another one, place your hand on the screen, with the flash on your phone set it off and remove your hand. An image of your hand should remain.
Hey kid! 👍Great job... I was wondering if you have done or would consider doing an episode of bloopers? 😁 I ask because sometimes you say funny stuff, not sure if it's intentional or not, but it's cool. Thank you! 🏆🏆🏆

Mt grandparents bought me a whole set of encyclopedias for my 8th grade graduation present 🎁. I loved them and used them back in day for hs. 👍
@@Kim-J312 My dad bought me the red color Jr. edition, back in the late 60's, they were great!

This house was amazing! I loved the view from the kitchen into the old dining room, and the 1970s stairs.
Sweet place, refreshing to see it wasn't vandalized at all.
So many things I Love about this house thank you for shareing.
The glass in the kitchen and light fixture is called bottle glass. Very 60's and into the 70's. Enjoyed the video.

Those wooden ceiling beams are gorgeous.
Those old TVs like that have to warm up 😊
I pray all the time for a old home like this

🤨😳🤧
Without you Ethin I would't be reminded of the way things were back then. I really do like the styles and how well things were built.
I loved sitting down with my encyclopedias and reading each one cover to cover! Yes, nerd. 😊
