- Thirteen seaside homes at Hemsby on the Norfolk coast near Great Yarmouth face demolition after the cliff they are built on has been eroded away by 'Beast from the East' storms.
The houses are currently hanging precariously at the edge of the cliffs and it is only a matter of time before they are claimed by the waves and crash onto the beach below.
The local Great Yarmouth MP Brandon Lewis - who is also chairman of the Conservative party - has faced criticism from local people for yet not visiting the scene

It's strange to me that the UK is fine with losing hundreds of meters of coastline to erosion every few decades.
Where does the solid rock start? How much land will the island eventually lose?
Spent about 17 years of my life going to hembsy and went back about a year ago and the changes I have seen are disheartening and the beach area around the beach cafe are not a patch on what they used to be some investment by the government is needed to protect the seaside properties before it is too late
What a shame, that must be heart breaking.
So Boris is now king Canute! Don’t buy near the sea. Simples!
I live nearby and it’s a total mess both on the ground and with the authorities
No amount of time, effort or money can hold back the power of the ocean. California coast line suffering the same effects. Sad but true. Not heartless, just a reality.
Why? Is the council helping these poor people,I hope the council house these people who have lost their homes.😢
It's happening all along the Norfolk coast.
Very sad to see.
Central government have to help these people.
Hi, I am from Indonesia. I have an idea how to stop the abrasion by making line mattress in long of seashore from coconut fibre. It is cheaper than others option. How good this idea is? You have to divide 3 parts the mattress. Each part has long from shoreline in front of it around 100 metres. Then, you have to make a gap around 20 metres to the next part. So, total has 300 metres. The first part of materials that close to the shoreline, we have to put a seed of mangrove and the 2 rest of the party just for slowdown the waves before hitting the first part. I am sure, the seed will easy to grow because it planted in coconut fibre. I have ever given this idea to our government, but they prefer by making a wall in a long line of the seashore or arrange the big stone in there. I know why they chose the options due to it could be a good project for them. I hope it idea can help whole countries in this world.
Both the Local government and Environment agency say its not their responsibility. Why don,t the locals take them both to court to sort it out once and for all.
I also can,t see why large concrete stars were not put in place, they are not expensive and would save the coast line, and these poor peoples homes.
there is no real storm proof defense for such sandy cliffs as you get no solid foundations for any kind of sturdy construction. Maybe it is better to invest the money in relocation for the people and not to drown it into the sea for a minimal effect.
Live by the sea or a river ? Luvley jubley.........😀......... at your peril.
Yeah
council accountable = you pay rates and land tax and utility services ! council must support local people !
sure treble the rates and you might save it for a couple of years, it is a shame but inevitable
i'm going to come down just to look at floating houses.
Great
Give the homeowners compensation and evacuate the whole area. Not worth spending millions just to maintain a few people's memories.
Yes I'm sure you'd be happy if the house you lived in all your life that your kids were born in that has the ashes of your parents in the garden was all being washed away
@@jamien4561 Climate change doesn't care about anyone's feelings being hurt or memories being erased
@@jamien4561 The homeowners are more than welcome to fight climate change to hold on to their memories. Just don't force the rest of us to pay for it. We'd much rather spend our taxes on, say, the NHS?
What happened to the cheese?
Why the owners don’t clean up.before they get to safe living.
Seem to me the business of saving a house on a evaporating sand dune belongs to the owners.
Yes definitely not the millions of childish adults buying stuff from China which is causing the sea to rise or become more violent
When you buy by the sea ,this is going to happen.Don,t blame someone.
It's more important to house asylum seeker's these days than to deal with our crumbling coastline
You can’t fight Mother Nature.
More like you can't fight stupid adults that want nerf guns and computer games made in China which is destroying the environment and making weather patterns go insane which is causing this
Pass the buck
Everything possible should be done to safe them.
No
dont hav a house by the sea simple and this will happen
Being a island that is kind of difficult. Plus when many of the homes was built the coast would of been further out. It takes time. A town 10 miles from the coast in the 1900s could well be on the coast line in 100 or so years
@@chelseahulmston9056 not really there is a difference between sand and boulder clay to solid rock coast line
They weren't by the sea they were built back from it but unfortunately stupid adults are poisoning the planet with plastic toys made in China which is causing the weather to be rather erratic
@@jamien4561 need to sto[p buying from china but that wont happen
I’m interested in hens y
The problem is giving aid to every other country on the planet and ignoring the needs of the British people.
It's just a waste of money fixing this because climate change is destroying the planet until we stop buying things from China and put away all of our toys this is going to continue. Countries in the Pacific of gone under completely
@@jamien4561 climate change, give me a break. If there was global warming then why is it getting colder? climate change is bullshit, go back thousands of years and you will see it changes all the time. Its the Earths natural cycle
