Hi Kristina, thank you for your video. However, organic doesn't mean pesticide-free. I read several articles and studies about that. It means that in organic food the pesticides must be derived from natural sources, not synthetically manufactured. A real organic apple looks way less nicer than the ones you find in the supermarket. It has holes due to the bugs and it is much smaller. When you test synthetic chemicals (used in non-organic food) for their ability to cause cancer, you find that about half of them are carcinogenic. Until recently, nobody bothered to look at natural chemicals (such as organic pesticides), because it was assumed that they posed little risk. But when the studies were done, the results were somewhat shocking: you find that about half of the natural chemicals studied are carcinogenic as well. This is a case where everyone (consumers, farmers, researchers) made the same, dangerous mistake. We assumed that "natural" chemicals were automatically better and safer than synthetic materials, and we were wrong. It's important that we become more prudent in our acceptance of "natural" as being innocuous and harmless. The purpose in writing this comment is not to discourage people from buying organic produce. It is only meant to let you know what you are or aren't getting when you make such a purchase. Unless you know your grower personally, there is no guarantee that your produce has been grown without pesticides or other chemicals. It's a point to consider, given the substantially higher cost of organic foods. Data that describes the carcinogenicity of natural and synthetic compounds are referenced in Gold, L.S., et al. (1992) _Science_ Vol. 258, pp. 261-265.
Alessio Pavan thank you for your educational comment. This opened my mind & I am so glad you said something about it. That is something I never knew. Thank you again.
The health dept has inspectors that regularly visit organic farms unannounced to assure the farmers are complying with the many legal requirements to be branded organic
Love your channel! Great video...I have been an organic farmer for over 12 years. I would suggest to you to remove cabbage from the good list and move to the contaminated list. Lots of pesticides are sprayed on cabbage everyday to keep the cabbage worms at bay. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to your next!(-:
So I'm 15 and I have been raw vegan for 4 mouths now! Thank you so much Kristina for giving so much information, advice and support. You truly amaze me... You're one of my idols!
Good to keep in mind for those of us unable to go completely organic. It would be nice to hear more information about the allowance of certain pesticides in organic farms. Please do a video on foraging (if you have not already..)
I soak my fruits in water and vinegar (3:1) for about 15-20 mins to take off the wax, sanitize and clean off the pesticides. I really should do the same with veggies but keep on forgetting, I peel the skin on most of them anyway. Organic is just too expensive.
lemurian chick In my comment I said that I soak my fruits not veggies and I didn't say that all organic food is expensive. I buy majority of food organic or all natural for pretty good price, except fruits and veggie (I like to buy them through an actual farm whatever is in season or someone with their own garden). No need to get all defensive.
Good video!.. But sadly, most organic farms do use pesticides that are "sustainable to the environment". I plan to be an organic farmer with greenhouses that never uses pesticides!
I finally had the blackberries, which I collected while dog walking. It's great because they a grow in their natural environment and made a nice addition to my morning soothed and any leftovers were use to make a berry sauce with strawberries from my garden for my frozen banana ice dream.
FullyRawKristina Hey Kristina! Thanks for your advice, if the vegetables and fruits are well cleaned after purchase does it still mean that they can contain the pesticides? Or did the pesticides already go within the fruit/vegetable? Thank you :)
I throw whole kiwi fruit in to our smoothies, so always buy organic. The skins provide great fibre and you can be sure you are getting all the vitamins. Here in New Zealand, the home of kiwi fruit, most are heavily sprayed - especially for export.
This video has been really helpful. I became a vegan a month ago and I just absolutely love this lifestyle. I really love learning new information like this everyday. Being fit and healthy is what I am all about. Thanks Kristina! 😊... I would now make sure I buy everything organic that I can't peel and what's listed on the dirty dozen... Thanks for that rule of thumb, as well.
I buy directly from my farmer that only does organic. If you are in the Yucaipa/Redlands area I'll tell you where you can find him. Best farmer in town. I love him as a person. I wish I can do something nice for him.
Hey Kristina! I'm starting my first year eating fully raw, but my mom and I were wondering, where do you buy these foods? At what store? Is it ok to buy them from Kroger, Walmart, etc?
how about broccoli? Could u tell me if the toxicity of conventional pesticides treated veggies is lessened by being cooked. I stopped putting fresh spinach in my smoothies because it is not organic, but I am not sure if the spinach gets safer by cooking it? I know cucumber is also dirty veggie, so I started peeling the skin when put in my smoothie, it hurts to have to do that, since the most nutrient is in the skin. Thank you for your respond to my confusion.
Organic is the best! I always buy from wholes foods and it does t even bother me that its a dollar or two more than non organic... All I cares is that I'm putting better versions of good foods in my body
I was juicing the other day and came to find that they out wax on the cucumber skin, I assume they do that to make the vegetable look nicer. But it's crazy! Thanks for the information Kristina, i definitely will try to buy organic.
Hi Kristinaa!!!! i wound like to know if its ok to eat greens in the morning. I have a busy day training on a circus school in the morning and aftrenoon, at night im on the dance school until 23, so is difficult to make a big salad at the break(20:30) and a i also dont like to eat so late. Ive been only eting fruit and im happy, but i should eat greens, so im doing greens smothies in the morning. what do you think?!Love, Maria
Thank you for putting up the video. I've always wondered which veggies and fruits are the most contaminated. I can see why Tomatoes would be heavily treated with chemicals given they are prone to blight and cracking but i wonder why kale is moving up the list. I've always found organic kale to be very easy to grow. Maybe its preservatives.
Kristina it is very difficult for me to get organic and the dirty dozen are on my favorites list. Is there some way maybe to wash them?? Help! I am truly trying to do raw as much as possible and to grow apples and grapes, for example, would takes years...
I always clean my fruits and veggies by putting them in a bowl with water and white vinegar and leaving them in there for awhile to kill the pesticides.
Thank you so much for this video! My mom actually just recently asked me about produce to especially avoid regarding pesticides, and I had come to a complete blank about what they were called...and after watching this video, aha "Dirty Dozens"! :)
hi Christina! thank you so much for sharing all this important information with us. I have one question. how about lemons and limes? since they are peeled, do I need to buy them organic? I put lemon and lime juice in my water every day. :-))
I have a question: when I buy conventional stuff, i have heard i should wash it. Do you know of the best method for washing conventional fruits and veggies to try and remove at least some of that pesticide?
Hi Kristina, thank you for your video. However, ORGANIC DOESN'T MEAN PESTICIDE FREE. I read several researches and studies about that. It means that in organic food the pesticides must be derived from natural sources, not synthetically manufactured. A real organic apple looks way less nicer than the ones you find in the supermarket. Hello, I thumbed up your comment. How do I get a better diet if organic foods aren't even organic? Is organic fruits and vegetables healthier or are we screwed either way? Sighhhhh.
Is local the same as organic... I go to a market in Las Vegas where I live they sell organic and local only. Is it safe to eat the dirty dozen if it's local.. Or should I get them organic
Kristina ,love all yours videos, you are a truly inspiration, can you please share with us where you get your wooden bowls, love them ,why dont you sell them on your web. Please let me/us know.Lots of love.Thank you for your time and effort.
FullyRawKristina what about pets? do you think dogs and cats would be able to handle a vegetarian/vegan diet? i don't have a pet but i was thinking of getting one for a while...
Very valuable info. I have a question about potatoes. They spray the potato after they dig it up? Why is it that the sweet potato they don't spray the same? Thanks!
Clearly she would have knowledge as shes been vegan for 8years she is the result to a vegan lifestyle - clean and naturally beautiful. U rock kristina. LOVE.
It is important to mention that "organic" farms are allowed to use bio-pesticides. These are chemicals derived from plants, fungi or bacteria. Phytochemicals can be just as toxic and more toxic than other chemicals that are applied. People need to realize that the organic certification really needs a lot of reworking. It is not the end all be all.
This helped me out ALOT! Love your videos!3 and I'm am having alot of trouble telling if certain fruits are ripe. So maybe in the future can you do a video on that please:)
Hi Kristina, I'm super excited to try a fully raw diet for the next two weeks! I'll start out as a personal challenge, and hopefully eventually convert to a longtime lifestyle. I have been suffering recently from cystic acne, so maybe this raw diet will help! As long as it helps my health overall, I'll be happy :) As a beginner, I'm just a little concerned about getting my iron, calcium and protein in! I used to be a big meat-eater, and as I'm cutting those out, I don't want to miss out on the beautiful minerals and vitamins! Thank you for sharing so much!!!
You can make sweet potato cupcakes with cashew nut sauce topped with berries by the way I am a nine year old who watches your videos I am also a subscriber whenever you make a video I stop what I am doing and watch the video thankyou for inspiring me to be fully raw I love you Kristina
this is a great video Kristina. I can't really afford to buy all organic living in Australia as it is really expensive. But it is definitely good to know which foods you can save money on by buying conventionally XO Ilana
Hi Kristina, I am greatly influenced by your lifestyle! I know you did a skin care video, but could you do a hair care video? Show the products you use ? Thanks
Hey Kristina, what are your thoughts on big supermarket companies that sell conventional fruits and veges but also organic? Also i don't think you mentioned dates?

Agreed. Even organic farming isn't prohibited to use pesticides on crops.
Agree 100%
What to do then ?:(

Eco Oasis - how does organic farming work? Are you allowed to spray some chemicals on the fruits and vegetables?
So I'm 15 and I have been raw vegan for 4 mouths now! Thank you so much Kristina for giving so much information, advice and support. You truly amaze me... You're one of my idols!

Excellent information! Thank you Kristina! You're the best!

Oooh how smart! But don't they taste vinegar-y afterwards?
Wow, great tip!
I've read that after vinegar you should soak the fruit in water with baking soda (1tbs/1l) to wash the pesticides away

Does soaking fruits and veggies in salted water works the same ?
Good video!.. But sadly, most organic farms do use pesticides that are "sustainable to the environment".
I plan to be an organic farmer with greenhouses that never uses pesticides!
I want a greenhouse as well!
Update!?
So its better to grow a garden to get the freshest food right?
Kristin Craig yes because you know what you put & didn’t put into your garden. Be sure to use food as organic compost. Avoid using meat for compost.
I finally had the blackberries, which I collected while dog walking. It's great because they a grow in their natural environment and made a nice addition to my morning soothed and any leftovers were use to make a berry sauce with strawberries from my garden for my frozen banana ice dream.

hi kristina, do you suggest peeling the skins off everything or are there def certain fruits and veggies you should keep the skin on?
I was always taught that if you can eat the outside you want it organic. My grandmother grows awesome tomatoes. Great video!

thanks for sharing Kristina!
When we buy organic we are also supporting the small scale farmers, keeping our soil nutrient rich, and promoting a cleaner environment.
Good morning from California. Starting eating raw 1 week :) i already feel lighter&happier.

hi Christina!
thank you so much for sharing all this important information with us. I have one question. how about lemons and limes? since they are peeled, do I need to buy them organic? I put lemon and lime juice in my water every day. :-))
Organic farmers in the US are still allowed to spray a minimum amount a day of pesticides.
Kristina, I really enjoy your vlogs and the information you shared. Thanks :)
Thanks for all the great tips!

Siobhan Lemons I think she's on about the non-mainstream farmers, like a local gardener, or stuff.

How do you eat patatos as a fully raw vegan? Can you please share a recipe?
Had a shake with beets, pineapple, kale, parsley, strawberries, blueberries, and almond milk.
Hey Kristina, what are your thoughts on big supermarket companies that sell conventional fruits and veges but also organic? Also i don't think you mentioned dates?
Please do a tutorial on how to grow vegetables your self!!!
What do you think of non-organically, but greenhouse grown dirty dozen veggies? I'm specifically thinking lettuce or cucumbers...
I recommend all greens organic if you can. It depends for the cucumbers...organic for those if you can b/c you will be eating the skin.
Ok thanks xoxo
Here in Denmark they spray it directly into the bananas. So always but organic bananas in Denmark :)
Thank you! Hugs from Sweden!
FullyRawKristina This is my fave video that you have made so far.
Thanks Kristina! You are the best! :) hugs!!

Hi kristina. Adorable channel :) How do You eat raw potatoes!?
You don't, it's bad
I try to do this as much as I can not always easy though
Great video!! Thanks😃👍
You could also use a Fruit and Vegetable Wash formula bought from a store for conventional produce? they are supposed to decontaminate from pesticides and waxes. There seem to be several brands out there...just google fruit and veggie wash...
What a GREAT share! I always enjoy your videos. And I love that you STILL appeal to those who are not 100% fully raw :)
This is a great post. Thanks for Sharing Kristina :)
Go Organic!
