    I can't wait for more on this topic!!! I've done CBT & Exposure Therapy before...
    It helped my agoraphobia & gave me tools ta go outa my comfort zone but 2020 set me & my OCD thought^bubbles ta go on overdrive & has set me bakk ta tha prison I make for myself...
    I'm tryin' ta get bakk my confidence ta control tha panic again & u have truly helped!!!
    Goin' ta my G.p. taday wif (wif my safe peep aka my hubbs) but it took me 3 weeks ta even pikk up tha phone & make tha appt. & almost canceled it this mornin'...
    But then watched ur videos AGAIN & am now gettin' ready & wrote out a list ta talk ta him so if I blank out or stumble over my words I can get through it without runnin' for tha exit!!!
    THANK U KIND SIR!!!

      Ur cbt techniques & ur trial & jury of intrusive thoughts truly did help me taday in tha waitin' room...
      Juz kept remindin' myself that I'm not a mind reader & that tha peeps in tha waitin' room prolly wasn't even thinkin' 'bout me & how I looked!!!
      Plus I used a breathin' tech. That u trace ur thumb ta pinky 😁
      For any1 that wants ta know that exercize it's: Start at wrist, BREATHE IN on way up thumb slowly, HOLD breath at top for a 2 or 3 count EXHALE on way bakk down slowly, repeat on each finger 'til u get ta other side of wrist (pinky side) & feel calmer...(also visualized stress leavin' out my feet inta ground...thx for that 1 btw!!!)
      ✌🍀♥️🌈😎

    If my negative belief is that I'm boring and awkward, there is no way for me to judge the success of an experiment. I wouldn't know what the other person was thinking.

      That's why an experiment is for the evidence you CAN gather. The whole point of CBT is to prevent trying to read other peoples' minds because your cognitive distortions will always skew your mind reading towards the negative side. If there is no obvious evidence confirming your negative core belief, then that is evidence to that fact that you're not boring and awkward. Simple as.

      you can study their reactions and based on that tell if the other person got bored or not

    What if ur avoidance behavior is far more insidious & secretive? “I think people will just think I’m stupid, if I don’t tell them that I have ADHD.” So u tell them. But then u ruminate about wondering if now they think your disabled AND stupid. You tell them about the ADHD in the hopes they’ll see u as smart & overcoming an obstacle/strong. What can I do for this?

      Unfortunately I don't know much about ADHD but although ADHD presents some specific challenges I believe the CBT principles should be the same. Avoidance will never disprove the beliefs that drive the social anxiety but through behavioural experiments you can challenge these beliefs. Not all behavioural experiments are successful but most are and prove the reality is a lot worse than you what you feared and the more you do the less you will ruminate. It is best to work with a therapist who has experience of both CBT and ADHD as they will be able to guide you through suitable behavioural experiments.

    its an interesting video, but too idealistic, some people are assholes and will make fun of anything out of the ordinary, they arent just going to behave as you are doing an experiment. I`m not saying this will happen i`m saying it might, you cant predict peoples behaviour.

    • @TheAnxietyAttic
      @TheAnxietyAttic  11 місяців тому +2

      Yes its true that there is always a risk of a behavioural experiment backfiring and its certainly true that some people can behave like assholes. But in my experience the positive responses far outweigh the negative responses. But even if you experience a negative response, by repeating experiments you get to see a more balanced view of the world. The problem with avoidance is that it reinforces the negative belief 100% of the time, whereas behavioural experiments will probably disprove the negative belief 80-90% of the time.
