Just a heads up! This is an older Patreon exclusive video from 11/2020 guys fyi. Thanks for watching! Enjoy.
We need More M’s by Drake and 21
I mostly watch the reactions of older music, particularly love the classic country reactions, bc of how deep and real classic country lyrics were. Highly recommend “silence on the line” Chris LeDoux and “Three Wooden Crosses” Randy Travis. Both are incredibly layered songs that don’t hit you until the end. Randy in particular will probably put tears in your eyes. Enjoy!
The song “compendium” that was in the #1 spot is really good. Honestly though, anything off of the albums “Lore” or “Reflections of a floating world” are great. Really hope you guys review another now that you’ve touched on so much music in the two years since this one!
They also have a new song that just dropped like two weeks ago called “Endless Return”!
Elders from 15 minutes away from Me.
It's weird to see how local band with a small following become so huge considering when they come around it's just... them LOL
And it's kind of funny that you mentioned God Smack even though these bands are in completely different parks of heavy genre, because Godsmack is also for Massachusetts but they're on the west conservative side as opposed to the east was liberal side.
It's also hilarious that you mentioned envisioning them playing in extremely small venues that are intimate. It's weird to think that they sell out stadiums in Europe and yet play such small places here in the US still.
Odd how you can be a God in the foreign place and just revered in a small sanctuary elsewhere in itty bitty places like AS220, and local concert joints.
And it still doesn't take anything away from them because they are incredible and a jewel of the area.
@@tenebrisrex333 first time I saw them was at AS220 on Halloween night a handful of years ago!
Reflections of a Floating World is a true masterpiece.
Hard agree, I only found out about Elder this year and Reflections of a Floating World is easily one of the best albums I’ve ever heard
Saw them in September. They played Sanctuary and Blind! I was so happy!
Thats the best CD i discovered in the last 5 years, 100%.
Lore is also a masterpiece
That album and lore are just perfection
Major props for rolling this out on the main channel.
I like to think Elder is Stoner's equivalent for Opeth in Death Metal, for all those transitions, small jazzy parts, just a lot smoother and soothing, with a permanent full on groove gauge
Opeth has much more progressive elements than death ones, as, for me, Elder has too. Red Fang is straight up stoner rock imo and this is more progressive stoner. But Reflection of a Floating World is a better example
Ive been listening to both for almost a decade. Never thought of it that way.
I'm back here to say, you MUST MUST MUST do more Elder!
I would love it if you would finally do Elder’s “Sanctuary” from your 2010s poll. It had almost 200 votes, and it’s far more likely to be something you enjoy.
They should have done III off of this album. That is the the true banger
Truly, one of the best bands out there.....Lore is a stone cold classic!
I saw Elder just this Saturday, crazy you guys are reacting now. One of the best bands I've seen.
I'm so jealous. They're on my bucket list
Some more great bands that are under the stoner / sludge umbrella:
Amenra - De Evenmens
Cult Of Luna - Nightwalkers
High On Fire - Snakes For The Divine
The Ocean - Jurassic | Cretaceous
Om - State Of Non-Return
SubRosa - The Usher
Weedeater - God Luck And Good Speed
Windhand - Forest Clouds
YOB - The Lie That Is Sin
Plus Isis, how come they've never reacted to this band yet? They are progressive, groovy and heavy in the same time.
@@tetfol3315 they reacted to "So Did We"
@@DSFARGEGEGEGEGE on Patreon I suppose
@@tetfol3315 yep
@@DSFARGEGEGEGEGE So I guess we will see it on YT in some time.
Would love to see you guys do more music in the genre. Lowrider, RZEN, Truckfighters, Red Fang and so many more. This is an amazing and extremely under appreciated branch of rock and roll. Thanks for sharing on the main channel guys! Edit* If you ever check out Red Fang, you absolutely MUST watch the official music videos along side the reaction. They rock, and they are hilarious.
Spaceslug, King Buffalo, Kanaan, Bongzilla, Weedeater and so many more
REZN is a on another level from the bands you mentioned, which are also good bands.
Elder has no peers, they're on another level. OK now do Gemini, best song on this album by far!
They should probably rather listen to something from a different record to get a different sound. All their records sound so different from each other. Ryan didn't like the sound of DRS too much. Maybe something from Lore or Reflections... or Omens is more his thing. They got proggier after this record which maybe helps with the song lengths. I kinda get what they said about DRS. I think the selftitled debut record and DRS are their "weakest" records (still really great records) and they started to get their own unique sound with Lore and afterwards. Selftitled and DRS didn't stick out too much from other Stoner or Doom bands records. I think they might had more fun with songs like Sanctuary, Compendium or Halcyon.
That's fair, but Gemini is an absolute banger.
Gemini is a damn killer song.
Idk g, III is probably my fav, so atmospheric
Elder is so great, Really need to check out All Them Witches and King Buffalo. The best stoner trio
The “intimate basement setting” is exactly where I saw them about two months ago in Boston! They are so good live. Loved these guys for years, and so stoked to see you get to them. Literally every album is consistently good, and for different reasons.
I can’t recommend them enough.
Can't believe you guys did this one! I just recently got into this album myself
Damn, it's been 11 years since they released this album and I still remember that cold, autumn day back in 2011 when I first heard it. Been loving it since then, still got chills when I listen to this song (the whole album is amazing). Perfection. Really one of the best songs and albums in the genre, right next to kings like Electric Wizard's Dopethrone or Sleep's Holy Mountain.
Stoner/stoner adjacent bands you should definitely check out:
Valley of the Sun
Red Fang
Baroness
Sasquatch
King Buffalo
Howl at the Sky
Green Lung
Greenleaf
Mastodon
And acid king
Second on Green Lung. I think I've seen them live three times now and they KILL it every time. Such a great presence on stage and incredible, memorable songs, there's nothing close to what they do in the stoner space.
I love seeing stoner metal show up on the channel! You should check out Cult Of Luna too, their song Nightwalkers is really great. Also one of the other comments mentioned SubRosa, I hope you get around to them eventually too.
Finland
Saw these guys live for the first time on Saturday at Damnation festival. They were absolutely unreal! Played this song halfway through the set and it melted my face. They play with a LOT of groove and feeling. Need to see them many more times, such an amazing vibe
Wow!!! This was a surprise...great selection!!!
Would love to see you react to Cathedral, their album "The Ethereal Mirror" is an absolute heavy classic which would be right up your street.
You guys HAVE to do a song by YOB. They are the lords of cosmic doom. The song “Burn the altar” is one of the most crushing songs I’ve ever heard. I love this band so much it’s hard to put into words because I know them personally since they started. As amazing as they are as a band, they are even better humans please give them a try. You and your followers will not be sorry. YOB is what all these bands aspire to be.
YOB is love
YOB is life
Never clicked on a video so quickly! Elder is one of my favorite bands ever! I met Nick DiSalvo hes super cool!
If you like this truck fighters, naxatras, the sword, 1000 mods, fu man chu and space slug must be visited
Thank you for trying Elder, their shit is amazing stoner/sludge metal/rock, absolutely great for when you're chilling with drinks and other inebriations.
First band to go with first weed experience.
Sanctuary or The Falling Veil by Elder are absolutely unbelievable tracks.
Love Elder so much glad there's people in the Patreon fighting the good fight 😂. You guys gotta do ELDER - THE FALLING VEIL next! One of my favorite songs of any band, PERIOD. Much love to Ryan & George 🙏
Sanctuary is the most epic song they did so far.
@@TonyRedgrave1501 it's good, but I think falling veil is leaps and bounds better. The outro for Sanctuary is dope as hell though.
I love getting turned onto new bands and things I haven't heard. Thanks guys, for exposing me to this band. I loved this. Like mid-70s Sabbath, early Melvins and Kyuss with a touch of Dead Can Dance and Monster Magnet. Loved this. Thanks, Peace!
These guys started around my neck of the woods, and they're incredible; they get better with each album so far.
I found out about this band after watching this video. I finally started digging through their catalog a month or so ago and I'm completely blown away. You can tell they have a kind of theme on a few of their records, and I either love the album to pieces, or I don't like any of it. I'd say 80% of what I've heard from 5 or 6 albums has been extremely good. The problem with this band is you can't put it on and tap your foot waiting to be entertained; you need to be in a place or situation where you can just let this ride and not be in a hurry for the next part to come along. If you can get in that headspace, this band will melt your face off. Their Innate Passage album from 2022 is so effing good, I love every track on it, and there's nothing that needs to be skipped. I can't wait to see them open for Tool, I couldn't be more pumped to check them out!
When I finally moved into a place where I could play records I got myself a used technics 1210. The first two albums I bought were Dead Roots Stirring and Earthless - From The Ages.
You NEED to hear 'Violence of the Red Sea' by Earthless. That is possibly the finest example of a stoner jam band keeping you interested with phenomenal musicianship. It's like the Black Thought freestyle of guitar playing!
Holy shit Ive seen so many of your videos bakc to back now but I just never expected to find a reaction to Elder. You guys are the shit.
I like when i tune in and its a song i haven't heard because i get to experience it for the first time too! I Not sure if i ever checked out Elder but gonna now.
They're great! Staving Off Truth is one of my personal favorite songs by them!
First time I really listened to this song. Been listening to Elder for 7 years ! THEY ROCK !
Check out 'King Buffalo' a little more psychedelic then Elder. They have been very prolific over the pandemic releasing three new albums. Check out "Mammoth" from their newest Album 'Regenerator'.
“A wave of distortion that engulfs you” George you nailed the feeling I get when listening to stoner rock.
Elder - Spire Burns.. Heavy sound and absolutely crushing riffs
Super underrated band. Wonder if they'll dig it, we never know these days lol. Should be right up their alley. One of the standout stoner bands due to the progressive nature of their music
any bands like elder you would recommend?
@@duketea_ Pallbearer, Yob, Bell Witch
@@manynukes11 These don't sound like Elder at all but really great bands. Pallbearer are a really great live band. I want to see Yob in the future.
@@duketea_ If These Trees Could Talk for me are pretty close to Elder. Early All Them Witches to a certain degree. Earthless, Lo-Pan, Lowrider, are all good in a similar vein.
@@TonyRedgrave1501 They don't need to sound exactly the same
Saw these dudes at a burrito joint in New bedford ma, in 2012. They rule so hard.
10:33 perfect explanation - i had extremely groovy experiences in basement-like concerts, everyone vibin', first row gives around a smokable object together with the band...
and the best thing was in a basement with rounded ceilings and collumns everywhere (your head was really close to the ceiling) - Insane atmosphere
I've seen Elder live a handful of times in the boston area, but when Ryan described the basement show ... I felt like shouting "I was there" it brings vague memories of a house basement show on hooker ST in Allston many years ago! If anybody was at that show drop a comment and let me know that my hazy memory it's real! 😅 If you get a chance listen to the Gold and Silver sessions! This band keeps pumping great music and remains on my playlist since I first heard them. 🔥🤘🏼
Sanctuary is way more up your alley guys. Truly such a beautiful track.
Edit: I also think you guys would like gemini and compendium
Be ready for long songs for doom! I saw that you said the instrumentals go for a long time but that’s the beauty of it. I highly recommend YOB: Marrow and Windhand: Winter Sun
that's always the arguimentation of people who don't like this music. they'll always be like, but its too long or it sounds too much alike, which is weird because it is so diverse and crazy and full of different stuff all in one song
Colour haze-love (or anything really by them)
Same goes for
Lowrider, anything off of ode to lo album, absolute classic!
I saw Elder in Jakobs Church in Oslo, Norway some time back. A memory i'll cherish for a long time.
You guys should check out HUM - The Summoning for this marathon. It's off their last album, Inlet - released in 2020. The entire album is great but I think you both really appreciate The Summoning or possibly Desert Rambler, and both would fit this theme quite well.
Sabbath Worship my guys
If you have a chance to see them live don't miss it!!! They are amazing!
Oh man I’ve been waiting for you guys to do Elder for ages!
Glad you got around to Elder!
Yall gotta make a redemption video for the melvins and listen to "lizzy" or "a history of bad men"
I saw Elder at a bar in Calgary, Alberta that is exactly the type of venue you describe hear. It was back when only this album was released. Of all the sets I’ve seen since my youth, that Elder show stands as one of the best live band experiences I’ve ever had.
I was at that show too! Absolutely incredible! That venue has had some of my favorite shows YOB was a crazy standout!
RAD!!! Elder is so bad ass. I got to see them a couple of years go. Doomy Stoner metal FTW!!
Really enjoing your reactions! Try out Catastsis by Elder? From their new album. I know you will dig it! They are going on tour with the album this spring. Love this song, but they have improved tons!
This song is a masterpiece. You Should really listen to Gemini, think youd like it even more, my favorite Elder song
Mine too!
Saw these guys a couple of weeks ago in a 300 capacity venue (pretty intimate setting!) and they were absolutely mental! Amazing atmosphere, and the groove was INSANELY hard!
Outside of this marathon...you MUST check out Elder's brand new album Innate Passage (the song "Merged in Dreams" IF just one song). I wouldn't even consider them sludge/stoner anymore. They've become one of the best (and my personal favorite) heavy progressive rock/psychedelic bands. Amazing production on this album too.
Completely agree! They have matured their sound so much. That album is basically a modern Pink Floyd album. Love it so far!
Yes!! Innate Passage is truly amazing; one of the best things I've heard this century, and a firm candidate for my all-time top 10 (as a 53-year-old music obsessive, that's a hard list to crack...) Would love to hear these guys' take on it!
Kudos to both of you guys for exploring everything you have that's out of your comfort zone. You got me listening to Marlon Craft, dammit, and I am not into rap.
More Elder give us moree!!!! greetings from Chile
Love to hear you guys reviewing this Band. They just released a new single that I think is more suited your tastes. "Endless Return" One of my faves by them
holy crap. Never ever thought id see elder here
Saw these live a couple of weeks ago here in Norway, great band!
Nice, I really like this record. Makes me drift away.
Love elder. One of my favorites for sure
This whole album is amazing all the way through
Elder and Elephant Tree go hand in hand.
Elephant tree does not get the recognition they deserve, even in the doom community.
Can’t tell how much I love Elephant Tree
21:55 You could tell Ryan was grooving to this but yet still questioning how he felt about it lol. Stoner is definitely a heavy genre of rock…full of creativity and demands a lot of attention. You almost have to be ‘stoned’ to listen to it! Lol
Ryan just described every stoner rock gig i've ever been to haha
Truckfighters - Desert Cruiser
Great album dude!
Their new album is incredible and they are on tour with Tool starting in January 2024.
You guys should definitely check out Green Lung, one of the most exciting new bands in the space. Songs like Woodland Rites, Let the Devil In, Ritual Tree, and Reaper's Scythe strike a great line between that raw rock sound and softer melodies.
You might not necessarily like these guys, but I'd also recommend the song "Court of the Matriarch" by a Scottish band called Dvne. They have incredibly clever lyrics and they're brilliant musicians.
Some more easily digestible Stoner/Desert Rock bands - Dozer, Graveyard, 1000Mods.
I'd love to hear your reviews/reactions!
YESSSSS I LOVE ELDER!!! Check out thier song compendium.
That Kawhi Leonard analogy could not be more spot on for me. Elder is my favourite band and Kawhi is one of my favourite players ever 😂
If you don't like it you don't like it. Elder are probably my favorite band from the last 20 years.
This sounds BIG.
I really didnt expect this damn! nice
So glad you're diggin' it. :)
Maaaannn I would love to hear these dudes react to some new, heavy, polished, ‘22 metal… they need to hear Spiritbox! Their songs 1. Rule of Nines 2. Blessed Be 3. Circle with Me 4. Trustfall 5. Holy Roller. Those are all bangers! 🔥
If they don’t do High On Fire or Sleep For this marathon there needs to be an investigation
10,000 Years is essential!
Should check out subrosa
Loved this album
I probably put this just barely above Lore and just barely below Reflections of a Floating World. Such a great band.
You guys had to have gone with the song Sanctuary or anything off of their 2020 incredible album, Omens.
Wow discovered this guys last week, you really should react to "Sanctuary" by them!!
Gemini is a more condensed version of this style. I agree this one drags a bit but gemini is definitely the best track on the album
I love long songs like this, it's just a journey!
oh man you guys NEED to react to the opening track of Lore. Fantastic opener to an AMAZING album. Guarantee Ryan will like actually like this track.
Great band....got most their albums now....really liked Elder for a year or so 👍 this one ok...they have way better but often do indeed do long instrumentals that maybe need a bit more in there for me to consider alongside greatest out there. Really nice feels though. On that note, must do major bands I'd put in that greatest doom ball park you guys must do if you havent ... Yob (try the song Marrow) and Cult of Luna (try out the title track to A Dawn To Fear.)
Yeah, doom as an experience has alot in common with trance music...those long textural grungy earthy sometimes spacey passages are common.... And make alot of songs long. So the emotion for me in the feels are paramount for the long songs and instrumentals to work best.
Nice one guys!!🖤🎸👍
Fantastic band. I got to see them in a small venue.
Super cool, never heard these guys before.
Best band ever
Elder can do no wrong in my opinion
Do Sleep - Dragonaut
some gems on the Omens album
AMAZING! Please check out ELDER'S 'Sanctuary' off of Reflections of a Floating World. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes
Awesome, you should try silverfish, by king buffalo. They are great!
Major respect for giving this song ago, doom metal isn’t for everyone and the length of the songs can be off putting to a lot of people. Elder is one of my all time favourite bands of all time, so respect.
wow elder!!! now this is a surprise.
This song got me into them. Love it!
But I understand it’s very overwhelming at first. The heaviness, the saturation of the fuzz and distortion, the constant changes, but… when it hits, it hits. I fell in love with this album after I heard this.
This, Lore and Spires Burn are peak Elder to me. Still raw, heavy as hell, very dirty and groovy. Just so massive sounding!
Their newer stuff is also great, but has become more hit or miss, at least to me. They have become way more progressive and more technical, which is a great thing, but at times, it takes away from a central groove/song. I still love them though for being so consistent, their adventurous nature and high output!
All hail the Elder!
For sludge you definitely have to play the Lasting dose by crowbar
i dont think you guys have done blackgaze/shoegaze yet alcest - oiseaux de proie. if you guys think this groove was long check out sleep - dopesmoker 😂
Favorite band
