    I had the fortune of venting my frustrations about a boss to the wrong person (not even a coworker, a classmate), the day before I put in my two weeks. She ratted me out, my boss heard every bad thing I said about her and made my last two weeks pure hell. So I just unzipped my mouth about how she'd and the owner had been docking our tips. Business hasn't been great for them since, and employee retention crashed tf out.
    Edit: I am aware my boss was doing something illegal; I did not know at the time. I am aware I could've walked, in a small rural community like this one, doing so would've affected my ability to be hired elsewhere. The circumstances around a person's employment are often not straightforward. Please keep these things in mind and do not talk down to me about a job I left years ago.

    • @JZ3141
      @JZ3141 2 місяці тому +566

      I’m sorry but did you just say they docked your *tips?* As in, you were probably being paid like $5 an hour (assuming you worked in America) and surviving off of customer generosity and they took that away? Or am I missing something?
      Regardless, you tried to sue, right? There’s no way that’s legal.

      @@JZ3141 It was not legal and I was not aware it was not legal until after I had left the job. My coworkers were all under the age of 20, with the exception of a convicted felon (25), amd none of them were aware it was illegal either.
      I understand this is kind of confusing so I'll clarify - I knew my boss was doing something very uncool and had no qualms telling people about it after I left, but it wasn't until over a year later that a friend's husband (a chef) informed me that it qualified as docking tips and was totally illegal.

Sraight up told him no, he says I have to, I refer to labor rules and terms of my employment, pull out my phone to record, state the rules and terms and tell him to repeat what he just told me about working Saturday. He backed off, few hours later agency called, told me they ended their contract for workers being needed, and I would be getting the $6,000 bonus since they had terminated the contract before the end date as per agreement. Easiest 3 days of work ever, guy even got fired a month later when the plant owner came by to observe operations and how he was violating so many legal rest periods of employees and using coercion.

They also rarely approved time off because the same 3 or 4 people who had worked there forever were constantly taking it before anyone else could even try and they limited the number that could take off per week. The only reason they got away with it was because the time off was still technically available to us, even if we couldn't use it.

      @@hoobaguy4311 Do you know what would happen if everyone would work within the limited selection of "real" jobs you've provided? our society would collapse. You don't have to like it, but everything around you relies on people who may lack the highest education, but are willing to get their hands dirty. The kind of people that make sure your amazon delivery gets to you, food is in the supermarkets and restaurants have any service. Nurses that care for patients to ensure the well-being of anyone who's hospitalized or who suffers from conditions that result in them needing special attention. People like you who devalue the importance of those more mundane positions are the exact reason many workplaces are miserable. Because people like you become managers, no clue about the work or care for the people below them. You are the lazy entitled people you blame for this.

    • @callowaywash
      @callowaywash Місяць тому

      @hoobaguy4311 So, what is your solution? Because from the sounds of this video (and from my own experience), the lazy entitled people are the managers and supervisors of "not-real" jobs. You can work your ass off for the job and not achieve any form of respect or quality treatment. Education shouldn't be the gateway to a decent job where the working class is treated like real people and entry-level jobs shouldn't be miserable to the point of deterring young people from entering the workforce.

    • @aliceiscalling
      @aliceiscalling Місяць тому

      @@hoobaguy4311 My father had this same opinion as you until it came time for me to look for work between universities. He's always been a generous boss, so he couldn't believe how terrible all of the opportunities were for me, someone with a degree in a medical field, when I showed him the job listings. No business wants to pay more than they have to, so they want to offer low wages for experienced people. They want everyone to either be part time to avoid paying benefits or work overtime to cut down on the number of staff they have to pay. The days of caring about your workers is slowly disappearing because corporations don't have emotional ties to their employees. What they have is the incentive to squeeze out as much profit as possible. The best way to combat it is to constantly be on the lookout for a position that pays you better. Companies love when people fall for "company loyalty" and let them provide minimum benefits and salary forever.

Instead of having a relaxed environment where we can take breaks when needed (it was mostly landscaping during the summer in the south so breaks were definitely needed more than once per task), a fixed schedule, and a boss we could actually converse with, to an environment where nothing is good enough. If you did anything that management didnt tell you to do it was an instant write up. They changed the schedule all the time and wouldn't tell me and then accused me of lying when i told them i never got one and when i tried explaining myself i still got written up and the big boss threatened to fire me over it like what the fuck do you want me to do. If you took a break and Management didn't know and you didn't clock out it was a write up. We're not leaving to take breaks btw, a break for us would be just sitting on the side of the road and drinking some water. No no no no no, wrong wrong wrong.
      It's come to my attention that you're not measuring up. You'll need to stay late, again. With no overtime. Your project has to be completely redone.
      You can't seem to do anything right.
      Oh, I'm- I'm gonna have to write you up again, too. You're just not measuring up. That's three more demerits this week.
      Did you get the memo about the pay cut? 10% across the board. We've gotta cut back, it's the bottom line, you see.
      And your insurance co-pays? Yea, they're going up. Better tighten your belt. We're merging with a bigger company. There's gonna be one flavor ice cream, one brand of coffee, one car.
      There's twenty people waiting for your job. One-third of Americans work for less than $8.50 an hour, get used to it. Be happy with what you've got. You'll have to play catch-up on the weekend, with no overtime pay of course. You're not meeting your quota.
      What's that, you say? The quota is impossible to meet? Duh! Here's how it works: I sit in my office - my corner office, and I do some simple math. I look at other companies similar to ours. I get stats. I take a nap. *burp* I crunch some numbers - and if the figures show it's only humanly possible for one person to complete, say, ten projects a week... I double it. And that becomes your new quota: twenty projects per week. Simple.
      Of course it's impossible, that's the whole point - gotta keep you on edge. We'll give you some malarkey about setting the bar high, meeting goals et cetera but that's not the real reason. We gotta keep you in fear. Fearful people develop low self-esteem. Thus, they'll never ask for a raise.
      What, you want a raise?

      Thats where you should start slacking tbh. Nobody gets paid for hard work anymore so might aswell do the bare minimum. Minimum Wage, Minimum Effort

    I haven't worked since Covid. I'd planned to, but after being unemplyed for a while the thought of having to resubject my self was just too revolting. So I accepted the fact that my retirement would have to be much, MUCH more modest than I'd been planning for. Except for occasional handy man gigs, vegetable gardening and raising chickens, I've relaxed into a blissful state of slackerdom. Would not have been possible if I hadn't slaved for decades to build up my IRA. Hoping the economy makes a turn so that everyone has more choices and can walk out of abusive workplaces.

    I can very much see this as a 90s movie scene, complete with fisheye lens POV of the braindead managers, lens flare through the window as he says "95 degrees, I am trapped in this little metal box...", cutting to the drooling faces of the supervisor as his mouth is open in awe.
    Shit slaps

      It’s rehearsed because it’s super fake. No one would let you rant violently at them for a whole two limited without them making some kind of interjection. Still funny but definitely staged.

    • @Biscotum
      @Biscotum 2 місяці тому +48

      I doubt it. I'm like 90% sure this guy was the only one in the room. No supervisor on the planet would sit patiently while being reamed out for two and a half minutes, plus there was no muttering, no protests, no breaths or shuffling, nothing. Sure, maybe it was on the phone and he was talking over them, but then why would he refer to "seeing" a piece of paper (his 2 weeks)?
      Like every other cathartic moment of someone telling off their boss, this was probably staged, because those things never go down like this. A boss that deserves it would attempt to shout you down at the first obscenity or accusation.
