My very black very southern mother was IN LOVE with Kenny Roger's. To quote her at the time, "That's one sexy white man." I was so shocked all I could do was laugh.
Gah! Crying ugly tears here! This is my parents' song. They're both 83 years old and just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in July. The lyrics capture their life together perfectly❤
I married my husband twelve weeks after our first date, which was one week after we met. Everyone we knew told us we were making a mistake, but we were young and stubborn and didn't care what anyone else thought. Thirty-two years and two grown kids later, we are so happy about the mistake we made that we figure we'll continue making it for another 30.
This by far is my favorite Kenny Rogers song of all time. This is a song I danced with my father at my wedding. I gave my Dad a DVD of pictures of him and I through my childhood up to modern time for a Christmas gift with this song playing in the background. It has the emphasis of any true connection you have with somebody that they mean that much to you and the way Kenny Rogers sings it is something that just touches your heart so deeply
Wow.you must have an amazing DAD.your full of love for him.this is an oddity these days.beautiful hearts are always together.im an old man.you made me tear up.thanks.
I was nuts as a kid for Kenny Rogers. Loved his stuff. You've done six of his songs (one with Dolly), but there are so many great ones to check out. "Coward of the County" is another great storytelling song, and then you got "She Believes in Me", "You Decorated My Life", "Don't Fall In Love With a Dreamer" (duet with Kim Carnes), "We've Got Tonight" (duet with Sheena Easton, who you REALLY need toa dd to your Female Friday lineup), and, if you want go ALL the way back to Kenny's beginning, he released his first single in 1957 at the age of 19 called "That Crazy Feeling".
Coward of the County is a must, as well as...hell, all the songs you mentioned. BUT you have to add "You Can't Make Old Friends" with Dolly. It is SOOO Beautiful!
Instant tears. This was my parents song, and perfectly describes the 50 years they spent together. My parents met at 12 years old, and later married after only one date. We lost Mom unexpectedly in 2021, less than 2 months after their anniversary. I need her desperately today, so I thank you for bringing her back to me so clearly with this song.
Similar story for my parents. Lost my mom unexpectedly in 2019. She and my dad had become almost as one and he struggles so much without her. I miss her every day.
This song is a beautifully romantic story of life long devotion and love enduring. We should all be so fortunate to enjoy life as it was intended and represented in this maginificent performance.
Oh wow. Beautiful. I don't know why, but everytime I hear Kennys voice, I get all choked up. I never even heard this one before! Love it, love Kenny. RIP Kenny. You are so missed. 💔❤🎵
I used to get their songs confused when I was a kid and people found it strange. I'm so glad that as an adult I realized why and that I wasn't just being a complete idiot.
Kenny Rogers is one of the greatest vocalists of the 20th Century. His best songs include: "She Believes In Me", "Lady", " You Decorated My Life", I Don't Need You", "Love Will Turn You Around", " Islands In The Stream ", with Dolly Parton, and "Lucille" and "Share Your Love", with Gladys Knight. A true legend...May he R.I.P.
Along with the rest of the Share Your Love album, the song was produced by Lionel Richie - they had previously teamed on Rogers' hit "Lady." Richie is the one who decided "Through The Years" was a good fit for Rogers. "Kenny was actually the third or fourth person that was approached with that song," co-writer Steve Dorff said in a Song facts interview. "Barry Manilow and Mac Davis passed on it. Glen Campbell passed on it. Those were the notable ones. Lionel Richie had heard the song and loved it and played it for his people and that's how it happened. I got a phone call from Gene Page, that great arranger, who called me and said, 'Congratulations! We just cut your song with Kenny Rogers, and it sounds amazing.'"
I didnt know that! I am playing the song in my head and substituting Barry Manilow's voice in. I am convinced it would have been a hit for him. Strange that he gave it a pass. But this is a amazing song by Kenny Rogers, probably my favorite song by him
This song always gives me a huge lump in my throat. It is so beautiful, I can't listen without crying. It can apply to so many wonderful people in my life, present and past. His raw yet soothing voice is addictive. The orchestral background heavenly. Thanks for the wonderful memories Kenny. Miss you. 😍 Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
I listen to this as someone who has been married for 42 years and with my husband for 44 years. Lots of ups and downs but the words of the song and the way he performs it is perfect and says it all
Kenny was one of my mom’s favorite artist. I held her hand as she was dying from Alzheimers, and this song was playing in the background. Still brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear this great song…
Bless you. My dad died of that horrible disease. To this day I can't listen all the way thru Kenny's ""Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town." My dad loved that song. My heart goes out to you.
@@patches1589 Ruby was a favorite of my dad’s too! He was an aspiring country singer/songwriter and he used to play that one on his guitar all the time. I can still hear him sing it. He passed away in ‘87 when I was 13 years old from a work accident. There are so many songs that remind me of him, but Kenny definitely holds a special place in my heart because he was a favorite of my dad’s.
Thank you so much. I lost my wife to cancer last year, and this is the song I keep coming back to. Amber, so glad to see your reaction especially. That's what it does to me every time! Thank you both.
The first time I heard this song, it had just come out and I was 7 years old, and was at a 50th anniversary party for a relative. Someone had this song playing on a boom box while scrolling through slides being projected onto a screen (no computers or PowerPoint in those days). Anyway, I couldn't possibly imagine the concept of a relationship, let alone being in one for 50 years at that age. But now, after having been with my wife for over 20 years, every time I hear this song I think about being a little kid, just starting life and sitting in a room of old people crying to this song while thinking of all the memories of a long life together.
Omg, this song transports me instantly back to the roller rink-- "Couples skate, couples only!" 🛼 I LOVE my some Kenny!!! A few of my faves are Lady, which I think you've already reacted to, but I don't think you've reacted to She Believes in Me, and Don't Fall In Love With a Dreamer, his duet with Kim Carnes 🤩
Just saw this, my absolute favorite of his. My husband and I will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary in October this year. You couldn't imagine two more different people to start with (a jock and a bookworm), but we merged our lives so well. This has been the song that I've said that I would like to dance to on our anniversary. The words are so true. Thank you so much for reacting to this one!
I can relate so much to this song. Through our 37 yrs of marriage, we have had our ups and downs, and have weathered through it. I have had some bad times to work through, and my wife has helped me through them. We have had a lot of good times that we cherrished together as well. Through it all, we have traveled side by side. God willing, and "If it's ok with You (wife)" I'll stay right here, Through the rest of our years together.
Thank you for your mature and honest reaction, Jay and Amber. I see your love for each other on your faces and behind your eyes. You know I love you two. Blessings!
I met my husband in college. We were really great friends for quite a while, and then we started dating. We’ve been married for 34 years. Working on 35. We have two kids, a beautiful daughter in love and a precious grandson. I love the life we’ve made. It’s simple and it’s beautifully blessed. Kenny’s songs are definitely part of the “background music” of our lives. ♥️
Perfect voice, perfect lyrics, perfect song! It doesn't get any better than this. This song makes me long for something I've never had...a love that will last through the years.
Celebrating 40 years in November with my better half. I was 19, he was 29 and my drill sgt (it's a very long story!). Can't imagine living without him...

Just celebrated 25 year anniversary in July with my husband. This song definitely makes you think about how fast everything goes when you look back on it. Especially when your kids are out of high school. Another song with the same sentiment is Remember When by Alan Jackson.
You gotta love any Kenny Rogers no matter how hard you rock. He had a beautiful voice and this song...brings tears to my eyes...would love to have someone to love me like this...
If you wanna talk beautiful lyrics, listen to Kenny Rogers singing his song, YOU DECORATED MY LIFE. It's absolutely beautiful. Note: Please always opt for a live version when listening to Kenny.
Kenny Rogers was the lead singer of a rock band in the 60s called First Edition. They had a few big hits that you should check out. Faster songs. Try out "I just checked in to see what condition my condition was in" "I feel sorry for anyone who isnt me tonight" and "Ruby dont take your love to town".
Kenny rogers is not just a love song it hits you like a yesterday of a wonderful memories. The thing that fades but can be remember and when you do remember you realize its the most valuable of all.
Met my husband when I was 13 (he was 16). Got engaged at 17, married at 19, first son at 20 and second son at 27. He was my first and only boyfriend. We were a military family for 21+ years. Lots of time separated courtesy of the Army. Last month was our 37th wedding anniversary (together 43 years). Don’t let anyone tell you young love doesn’t last❣️
Kenny Roger's was such a fine gentleman and a great singer. His love songs sound so heart felt and genuine. He carried himself well and set a high standard in the music industry. What a great and nice personality he was. I for one was truly sorry at his passing. God bless your soul and rest in peace Kenny.

I have been a Kenny Rogers fan since I was a kid. My mom has always loved listening to the older country and he represents a lot of that sound from the late 70s and 80s. My all time fave is Scarlet Fever. He sang that song with such feeling that it still makes me tear up to this day.
This song makes me bawl sometimes. Kenny Rogers was one of my Dads favorite singers. I think Kenny Rogers and I think of my Dad and listening to Kenny in the car driving. 3 of his best story songs that show his full range all about true love. THE COWARD OF THE COUNTY. THE TOMB OF THE UNKOWN LOVE. And THE LONG ARM AF THE LAW

I know my father still listens to it all the time when he thinks of my mom and sits there and crys to. We all miss her but of course he misses her the most and is so lost without her. She was his whole life and when she passed a big part of him died to.
3 of his best story songs that show his full range all about true love. THE COWARD OF THE COUNTY. THE TOMB OF THE UNKOWN LOVE. And THE LONG ARM AF THE LAW
Love, love, love me some Kenny!!
I absolutely love this song ❤
Kenny was always one of my musical heroes and sadly I never got to see him live.
His music will touch the hearts of generations to come.💕
Hi Amber check out Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. It's where Rogers became a star. 1970 - 1974 and Rogers left on his own. Great Voice.
I think of my mom and my brother when I hear Kenny Rogers music. Crying like a baby right now. I really miss them both.
I love this song! I love all his music ✌❤🎶
You need to listen to “Love will turn you around” and watch the movie it’s from, “Six pack” from 1982.
Yes… Kenny was in the movies too!
Rip Kenny Rogers legend has left us to be with angels 😇🙏 he will be singing to them rest in peace
One of the last songs he did, Kenny Rogers ft Home Free "Children Go Where I Send You " . If it don't get you moving nothing will. RIP Kenny
