    Jewelry! Emily from Snake discovery put out a great video on how to make necklaces, keychains, tie pins, etc using snake shed and glass pendant sets, then Brian Barcycz or however you spell it took the idea for his new gift shop which would be cool if he gave her any credit at all. Definitely check out the video, Chris!

    Quite a lot of tropical snakes hate being sprayed with water. My jungle carpet python will fly off if any mist gets on him when I am moistening his substrate. With a normal snake, putting a small piece of wood in the soaking container allows the snake to rest its head on this safely as the wood floats.

    Chris, just curious have you ever tried a humidity box? Those work great when you get a BP really stuck on a bad shed. Just curious what do you keep your humidity at for your BP’s?

    • @ChrisHardwickanimaladventures
      @ChrisHardwickanimaladventures  4 роки тому

      I'd say every tub has a different amount of humidity. With the coconut husk I just spot check to be sure they don't dry out and that they don't have too much moisture in there. I pretty much go by the feel of the substrate.

  • @Red-357
    @Red-357 5 років тому

    Did you forget to talk about those mesh balls you place in the tubs. You don't use those anymore? I believe they were made to help with humidity. Or maybe I'm mistaken. Also a humid box will work great for shedding. Great video by the way. Love all the content.

    I have found quite a few people on Facebook who turn their snakes shed into artwork and stick them to a canvas or into a key fob. They also they mount each one together in a frame to show how snake has grown.

    I saw this thing on snake Discovery that showed how they made jewellery with snake skin

  • @johnschlesinger2009
    @johnschlesinger2009 4 роки тому

    I read a very interesting scientific paper about the water absorption of the skin in snakes from different climatic conditions. The writers showed that snakes from the tropics absorb a significant amount through their skins, whereas desert species, unsurprisingly, do not. This is why adequate humidity during a shed cycle is so important for tropical species. A couple of other points: I always examine the shed to confirm that the eyecaps have come off, and that the tail has fully shed. If these areas have not shed, they need to be removed, and removing stuck eyecaps is best left to a vet if one has never done it. Another trick is to inject water into the prey items when one estimates that a shed is in the way, as this increases the hydration, which can help matters. My brazilian rainbow boa always sheds in one piece, and the shed is never rolled up - because this species requires very high humidity at all times. Achieving high humidity without keeping the substrate too wet can be tricky: I mist down my rainbow boa’s substrate and cork bark hides twice daily. Good to see another video from you.

    Great video. How long can a snake stay in pre shed. I have a ball python that has not come out of his hide for well over a week. He looks like he is trying to shed. I am getting a little worried about him.

    • @ChrisHardwickanimaladventures

      It can actually be 2-3 weeks before they finally shed.

    What does mean when they say I have a visual in a snake?

    • @ChrisHardwickanimaladventures
      @ChrisHardwickanimaladventures  5 років тому +1

      When you have one copy of a gene in recessive morphs it's pretty much 'hidden' and you can't tell the snake has that gene. If you have two copies it's a visual meaning it looks like a pied, or albino, or whatever the recessive morph is.

    I am really worried about my snake. He shredded in April, so he shredded four or five months ago. It is now August and he's due to shed but he's not doing anything. He will act like he's about to shed but then he never will. He's either a super old corn snake that's about to pass or a juvenile corn-rat snake (he's gray with brown splotches like a juvenile rat snake) and I feed him one pinkie every two weeks to be sure his weight doesn't get dangerously out of control and he has enough time to digest his pinkie. I'm seriously worried he is in so much stress he's holding off shedding until he dies. Am I doing something wrong? Please help.

    • @ChrisHardwickanimaladventures
      @ChrisHardwickanimaladventures  4 роки тому

      They will shed when they are ready, nothing you can do about it. Just bump up the humidity when they go blue, you'll be fine!

    i think i know of a use for the shed ,,, if you had one large enough ,,you could cut it down the belly , air brush it from under neath or what would be the part touching its fresh skin the inside if you will ,,brush that with the primary color of the snake desired ,,then ,, spray a guitar body with spray adhesive and proceed with covering the body with the hide shed , i know it would have to be done very meticuously .but i have seen far too mane real hides on guitars and its sad ,,and then there is airbrushed guitars ..but if an artist,,,i.e. me ....and luthier i.e. me ... was too figure out a way too adhere one of these even if it was with a seam down the center and it was a two piece top covering and two piece back covering .i know it could be done ,,it is possible one would have too spray the back of the shed with something other then a base coat of paint too be certain it will be rigid enough too withstand working i.e...spray adhesive and cling wrap on one side too be sure it stays in one intended piece ,,but im sure it can be done and it would be an amazing leap forward in that buisness as noone has done it ,,again after getting the body covered you would have too essentially use an air brush too add all the bright detail too the scale skin and then clear over it ,,but on a guitar that would be done anyway ,,its not like youd normally be looking at a raw hide anyway ,, the only thing stopping me from doing this is sourcing large enough sheds too do it ,,it would take a single piece about 13 plus inches wide and about app 18 too 24 inches long ,,,or if you were using split pieces youd need two pieces totalling that where it was all back pretty much and no belly too speak of at least not much ,,so were talking about the larger of the pythons ive ever seen and ive never seen a shed that big ????my question too you is how large a snake do you think i would need too try coverin a whole guitar body front and back ?? or would i need a couple of sheds ,,if so ,,how big of a snake would it take too get a shed that wide if cut open down its belly ,,,again im referrring to the shed only not the snakesking itself ,,id never harm a snake i love em ,,peace
