  • A symbol of the trams of the former Eastern bloc, the Tatra T4YU was the tram of choice in the majority of Communist bloc cities in the 70s and 80s. Zagreb received just under 100 power cars (4xx) and the same number of trailers (8xx) in 1979, when Zagreb was still part of Yugoslavia.
45 years later, a dozen or so power cars and trailers of this type are still running on Croatia's extensive and unique tram network. Despite their age, these power cars are still as 'nervous' as ever when accelerating, and their ride is surprisingly comfortable for their age, with only the state of the track in some places giving passengers a bit of a jolt.
The Zagrébois tram network is also operated by 20 Tatra KT4YU received in 1985, and around a hundred Končar TMK 2200 received between 2006 and 2010.

This is one of my favorite tram types in Zagreb. The other ones are the M24, the TMK 200 and the new Adtranz GT6M from Augsburg.
