FIDM Press Release By: Leigh Wishner
How do you define "museum quality" when it comes to vintage clothing? If you're curious to know more about how The Way We Wore supplies museums with rare treasures, please join Doris on Friday, October 2, at 11am PST for an Instagram Live Collection Conversation with Leigh Wishner, the FIDM Museum Registrar-Coordinator. Doris is renowned for inspiring contemporary fashion designers and stylists with her unique inventory, but she has also made a significant impact with the valuable, one-of-a-kind items she has placed with world-class museums. The FIDM Museum has purchased significant fashions from The Way We Wore, and has also been fortunate to receive generous donations from Doris as well. Come take a peek at some of these treasures, and hear Doris's insights on wearable and museum-quality vintage fashion!
The video will be available on @fidm IGTV as well as on @fidm UA-cam channel. We welcome you to join the conversation between Doris and Leigh Wishner on museum quality vintage clothing.

I love your videos Doris but the audio in this on really hurt my ears. Your mic was very buzzy today and it was picking up the traffic outside. The green dress is dreamy.
Hi Doris, I'm a fashion designer from Malaysia, its great to watch your channel. Thank you.
Love all of the pieces! Your themed videos are lovely but these mish-mash hauls are just as fun!
Thanks for the shout out to your male viewers. I feel that I'm being included. Beautiful collection on your vlog. Love it.
My friend's Dad designed for I Magnin, His name was Larry Rothchild. I will ask his wife to check this video out. As usual I love the blouse you are wearing!
One of the things I like to do to pick myself up is go onto the closet and play with the clothes I have collected the colors and beautiful designs make me happy even if there is no place to go show them off they still make me feel beautiful to have them on I love this channel and what you do to show us how to have some class
As a woman 'of a certain age' who fully appreciates the breathability and temperature control provided by natural textiles, I really enjoyed your chuckle and comment on the polyester fabric.
So many beautiful pieces. Thank you for showing accessories consistently as well.
Oh Doris, you look so beautiful in your blouse and "longer" hair!
This is the only UA-cam channel that my partner actively watches with me. He said he enjoys the content because he learns something every time. He also watched every episode of Frock Stars.
Another great episode. I love how the outfits (wearable art, in my opinion), speak volumes about the time periods and clientele for which they were created. So much history in each garment. Never tire of watching your channel.
Thank you Doris!. That Patrick Kelly piece ...ugh😍
I loved i magnin I have tons of I magnin hats. Hello Doris love you 😍
God I love these videos, but could I make one suggestion? Studies tend to find that shorter titles result in higher viewership, so maybe something to consider, alongside maybe adding more hashtags so that the videos will flag up more? Just because you guys deserve ALL of the subscribers (Oh and that Patrick Kelly jacket is ridiculously good)
My grandmother shopped at I. Magnin. She always looked very chic.
Yep...Dress vintage and vote!
I love your video. I learn so much about designers and design. I would love it if you would teach a class on the different designs. You have more knowledge on design than anyone I have every known. I’m a sponge when you speak. Thank you and please keep it up.
I love the faux patchwork dress! and that butterfly necklace 😍
I miss visiting vintage stores and shopping vintage. Thank you for sharing these items, Doris.
I like to watch this videos because of Doris's comments are too funny to me, and need some funny moments in my life now. Some of these dresses are very elegant and pretty, some you got to have special taste and body to wear them.
I think you have come so far is because your innate niceness shows I find watching you comforting and lol the great clothes
You do NOT sound like a car salesman, lol!
You sound like lady who loves what you do and loves to share it with others!
❤️
you look FABULOUS Doris!!! 🔥❤️🔥💋💋💋💋💋
Can't wait to come see you..........lol
All the beautiful butterflies 🦋 so great!
that quilted dress is everything!!!
I think she said it's so quilted fabric and I would kill to get my hands on fabric like that!!!
I love the 70's era unfortunately much of the clothes from that era are Polyester unless it is the higher-end designer pieces! I love the I Magnin label they made so many amazing Disco shirts and dresses!
I am sooo glad I was in the prime of my life in the 70's and 80's and was able to wear similar fashions!! Just wish I would have kept more of my clothing. Great video!!!
That's so cool:))
Not only do we respond to your passion, we love your wonderful personality and commentary!
Hi Doris!
Love the accessories.
The lavender 1920s style slip dress with overlay is fabulous!
Thanks for sharing.
Another fantastic show! Applause to you and your team for all of your hard work to bring these beautiful videos to us! You are all like a fashion time machine and I would be lying if I didn't admit that I think that you are fashionably hot! Something special about Doris! Always loving you too diamond girl!
I have that butterfly necklace DEC!!! Love it and love your videos.
LOL. 1970s polyester is horrific. But you know, if the print is fabulous enough, it’s worth a little discomfort! 😂 Love you Doris.
I think my ex-wife's best friend had that black dress with the green lapel collar! (or it's doppelganger) It was 1985-86-87 and we lived in Albuquerque, NM. That would mean she bought it at either Dillard's, Broadway, or Goldwater's/Sanger-Harris/Foley's (that store was on the name-of-the-month club!). She was not a petite girl. Seeing it made me instantly remember the smell of Clinique's Aromatics Elixir!
I see C.C. Babcock trying to seduce Maxwell Sheffield in the late 80s oversize jacket. You have some beautiful pieces there!
I really like this channel. Awesome clothing , accesorries etc. So sorry to say that Doris presentations get so monotonous. It will be great if she did NOT use UHMMMM so much . I personally find it very annoying.
Been following your Channel for a while now so I’m pleased to hear your shout out to the guys. Would love a menswear focussed episode, as I’m forever in search of good vintage menswear (where have all the 40s/50’s high waist pleat front pants disappeared to? Damn it Lol).
My favourite was the 1970s wrap dress and faux fur blue jacket. I have been inspired to buy 1970s style clothing from Oxfam. I was a child in the 1970s and some of the fashions . The polyester dress with horrible pattern is very much in fashion as is the slip dress .
The butterfly dress reminds me of Hanae Mori. I would love an episode featuring Hanae Mori dresses! 🦋
That black jacket with green would have been great for the Schitt’s Creek episode. Laura Ashley brings back so many memories! We used to have to go to London to get it or ask someone going over to bring something, anything back 😂
I was just scrolling and found you. So good to see you again!!!!!!! 👗🧥🧣👚
Love goofy doris. ;)
The Jessica McKlintock type dress with the necklace you showed and a pair of tan cowboy boots would be cute.
Hello Doris and friends! I SO enjoy your channel... and look forward to our journeys back in time through fashion. Bravissima! Can I ask that you include more photos of people wearing the items that you’re featuring? It’s fun to see a “modern” human wearing these vintage garments.
Just an idea 💡❤️ 🤷🏻♀️
And... if you do include more photos of people, can some of them be fuller-figured or average sized? I do understand that vintage clothing is traditionally small... Thanks and blessings to you all❣️✨✨
So funny with the horrible polyester material lol, thank you for sharing Shalom
Hi Doris, love everything about you're show x
Nice to see you collecting vintage of all kinds and not just name brands. American made and union pieces were sound designs and off labels were gorgeous!
Loved it! The green and black reminded me of dresses I use to wear! Thank you Doris
You’re the best, Doris. 🌹🇺🇸💙
As always 👌🏾💕🌷🙍🏽🧕🏿🦹🏾♂️
I think that Valentino dress could be used by Paola Bracho
💕 love love love! All those dresses 👗 thank you for sharing
I love your videos but it is very hard to understand what you are saying. Could you move the mic more towards yourself?
Thank you Doris. Really enjoy your fashion adventures. Always loved Laura Ashley and was immediately drawn to that dress!
Wonderful words of wisdom with what you said at the end of the video about something magical about sharing things with our passion. Your passion shines bright beautiful! ♥️ God bless you and your team
I think I’m a little jealous of how much you enjoy what you do.
love also the perforations on the moschino bag =]
Love the colorblocked Moschino bag!
Fun show. I love when you put shows on with so much fun. Thank you.
Is this still in HD? I dont see well...old episodes are done in HD..
I love the last item, it is so impressive
Sincerely stunning pieces today
Hello Doris! (Man-fan from Canada)
Laura Ashley reminds me of the nostalgic designers but that one was pretty sophisticated, reminds me of the dress from the movie BIG.
I loved how you cracked yourself up!
Late 1960s and 70s was a low point in fabric
I absolutely do not like polyester at all, ever
Great lipstick color on you today
I love the blue furry jacket!
The Laura Ashley is awesome, so is the orange dress! Vote!
I think it was Calvin Klein (?) who said "Oh, I LOATHE polyester. But it does launder well."
That’s a GREAT quote ! Thanks for the smile.
Doris
That toilet chain pendant!!!
It’s very Marsha Brady maxi dress
The blue coat, wow! How much?
Just fabulous and I loved hearing you today on the Threads Magazine podcast!
NOLA-GURL
Thanks so much! I appreciate your kind and positive feedback.
Do you posses Gunnysacks?
I love love love those hats!
Thank you Doris.
I loved all the pieces.
Love everything!
That Valentino ♡♡♡♡
🤣🤣🤣 on the comments of the horrific horrific fabric (polyester) .... Doris you have jokes !!!!! Love love the channel !!!!!!
O I would love to purchase that amethyst pear necklace!!
And the divine silk organza lilac dress with the transparent top, from "gayle's stash, pewitt"
and.. the next item the bias cut slip dress! Wondering about sizing, and shipping....
Que linda
It’s a holly hobby dress
Loved the jacket
I'm one of those men!
I love your show
How do you know if things have never been worn? Do you just trust the seller or are there signs that things haven’t been worn?
A majority have the tags attached.
Such fun!
Pretty dresses..
WOW!
Once I got the compliment that I looked ‘demure sexy’. I love that expression.😊
I grew up in the 1970s and dislike the fashion of my youth ,somehow I just knew everything was just ugly and awful polyester
I enjoy your channel and your spirit, I've been a fan for a while. But remember Doris, voting is a right, not a privilege. Love the furry coat! xx
Looooooove the blue fur coat!😍🤩 Thanks for the videos Doris. I just enjoy you so much. Wish you could post more😊
You are appreciated- love your channel. And yes, I also hope everyone is ready to vote in this election!.Remember the glorious RBG!
I love the clothes, the lesions , and what you are wearing today. You look especially good. My favorite designer is J Jill. Of course I love so many of the older designers as well. I believe it is, how you dress, not what you are wearing that really matters. Mixing works well. Thanks for another good vlog.
Call me old fashioned but i love anything that is long ever since i was a child, could it be because of the 70s 🤷♀️. And please do vote it is an insult to all our ancesters that came to the americas and the cariben first running from represion and injustis we oue it to them be gratefull for what we have now. ☺️🇨🇷
Thank you Doris and team! You're so right, when you genuinely love what you do, it has integrity. ❤️
😍
