this is more than food photography, this is about pricing a commercial shoot, regardless the niche, such an eye opening vid, thank you for the willingness to disclose such info

Very interesting. I am a commercial photographer based in PK. Been struggling with license fees as they are not a norm here, but recently i had to charge a multinational client (world's biggest food company) for images that I shot here for their local brand - but now need to be used by 2 different countries within Africa (where they are also launching the brand). What i did was, i just calculated my shoot cost, halved it, and charged them that, so it would be much cheaper to buy from me instead of trying to reshoot it themselves. I longed for something like the-aop.org calculator. I went straight there to check it out after i saw your video. I am trying to make licensing a part of my work practice, but it's just not the norm here. However, one thing you could possibly advise me on, i charged them for 2 images for 2 years in two countries. The aop calculator doesn't seem to account for licensing the full shoot or certain images of it. It still makes me wonder how to charge for single images or should it always be one fee per year for the whole shoot? Any thoughts?

yeah we seem to get good deals on the phase one systems, not so much on Canon or Hassleblad though.

Did you ever specifically do a follow up video on this topic? I've watched many of your videos and have learned a lot. I'm curious about how this estimate translates into action, but then also after all that shooting you do for a full day, are they really only using 3 final images? Or is there a chance you might upsell some others from the shoot? Thank you so much for all you've shared!

Seriously informative 🙏 i've just started getting jobs for my food photography and have been charging an hourly rate and not really licensing. What do you think a reasonable price to start licensing per image to restaurants is? Mostly everything is just social media and website.
Hi Scott, very informative and appreciated. Just wondering why don’t you add a producers or production fee to account for the days of work you spend ringing around looking for and booking crew, gear rental research etc? It’s very common in the commercial sphere for video content as a line item and seems like a missed opportunity here. Thanks again for all your open and honest content, it’s refreshing to see actual professionals divulge how the real world works.
PeeGeeTips I tend to have a producer do these things on bigger jobs. But I suppose I could add a fee for gear research, but it only takes a 5 min call to Kev to find out what I need. How much do they add in video for these services ?
Choucino Photography Production co-ordinators on commercial work are around 800/day and there’s typically a 10% production fee of the whole budget (less usage in your case) for any unforeseen additional costs

Right now in your photography level i'm curious do you still accept restaurant gig / small budget food shooting?
sometimes. If it is something I want to do and they allow me to re license the images then I would.
It would be better if you could communicate price in dollars. The vast amount of viewers have no idea the value of pounds.
