My Aunti had a pick ur own Strawberry Farm, on 1 acre near pottageville, ont. She had several variety's, it was Heaven! We didnt know how goood we had it, Thankfully nobody in the family was allergic. I miss my Aunti & those strawberries!
Planted a hundred plants last spring. We didn't pull the berries, enjoyed them as they reopened. This year each plant has no less than a dozen berries, some twice that... So take advice with a grain of salt.
:( I got strawberries growing in a pot bought from Home Depot It was fine and they turned a beautiful red, but today I found all 4 berries to be browned and squishy and even one covered completely in gray mold. Maybe I over watered by I tried avoiding that.. My strawbrrries don't have mulch as of right now, whats the best mulch to use for strawberries?
I am using pine straw now but I’ve Lawson used hay. When they turn that beautiful red you pick them immediately! They turned brown bc they over-ripened. It takes no time at all if left on the vine.
@bakerhillfarm thanks! Just picked the first one that turned that beautiful red but it's a bit small, I know they'll come in their own shapes and sizes but I'm worried they might all grow a bit small. Any chance I can help that? I also noticed there's one berry, very very tiny, turning red on one side whole the rest is still that pale yellow/green. Most of my berries are actually turning red while still very smal-
@@fmllukas9422 there are different kinds of strawberries and most varieties are small! But I honestly think the small ones taste the best. So it's probably the type of plant you have. Grocery store strawberries are unusually large.
Pick off some of the flowers so they don’t turn to berry that will let the plant concentrate on better ones that you pick and fertilize with a light fertilizer like worm castings
My strawberries taste kinda funny. It’s Evergreen, I’ve never had this type before, but it kinda tastes weird not sweet. Do you have any tips or advice?
On the Ryobi electric lawnmower the very first setting is for "mulching" leaves and it comes with a bag attachment for collection of said leaves that can then be added to compost heaps or used as mulch like this only more finely chopped up. Just an fyi. Idk I have one. I find it easy to mulch for my strawberries with. Happy growing 🍓
Yes I realize that- but the point is picking them off for one season makes them focus their energy to building strong roots so that NEXT season they will grow more fruit ❤️

I wanna eat those and thanks for the tips I was thinking when I’m older I’ll have my own little strawberry farm
No need to wait, just steal land and plant away, people have done worse you're good.
Thanks for sharing and those good tips.

I just transplanted a baby plant to a big pot to grow up it had flowersbon it do i need to pick those flowers off now?
If it were me, I would do the plant is using the energy to develop roots and not strawberries.
What kind of mulch should I use, my kids planted some in the raised beds and they’re growing like crazy
Leaves are my favorite, but I’ve used leaves, pine straw, and hay.

Probably a tad underripe I imagine.
Do i have to pick the flowers the first year if i brought bareroot ?
It’s up to you. You don’t ever have to. I did though.
You could experiment and do half of them!
Hii,can I use bark instead of mulch❤😊
How fine is it? If it’s chunkier, it will use a lot of nitrogen to break down which could rob your plant of nitrogen.
@@bakerhillfarm I am not entirely sure but they are more closer to small then big so could I use it?
Every time I pinch the flowers off of my strawberries the plants die
That is strange. I would only do it the first season, but it shouldn’t cause the plant to die…
Guess how our modern red strawberries came to fruition🤔🤔 who has the answers!?😅
Thru omnivore poop??
Could you use leaves for mulch?
Absolutely!

Don’t the flowers turn into fruit?
Yes they do!
But if you have too many on a young plant, the fruit never gets very big and the roots don’t get deep and established like they should.
@@bakerhillfarm Thanks!
