  • A trip to remember for a lifetime. We went on a guided trophy salmon fishing session with Captain Tory from Goin Coastal Fishing Charter in Sooke, Vancouver Island. Landed my first ever chinook salmon and it wasn't a small guy! We definitely could have landed more if the rod/reel is right handed. We got exactly what we came here for: ocean workout, catching big salmon and taking nice pictures! I would recommend Captain Tory to anyone who wants to experience trophy salmon fishing on the island.

Oh yeah right. I guess lake trout swim in deep water and needs a down rigger too. One day, I will go catch my first laker! Thanks for the comment!

Weird he doesnt cut the motor more when hooked up to make it a bit easier to fight the fish. Cool video, looks fun. Not allowed to keep any?

I was confused too... like I was pulling the fish and the moving water. Maybe that way it keeps the fish pinned better? Maye that way it keeps the other rods and line straight to prevent tangles. It was a day to remember in my book. No I think that area and that time of the year, only stocked chinook salmon was allowed to keep.

@@TTangOutdoors Maybe it's just to tire you out so you dont want to stay as long, haha. Seems like the drag probably could have been turned up a bit too, even with no fish on was pulling drag. That's the side I like to reel on but all that combined with reeling on opposite side you're used to would be really tiring.

Bro, I had the same questions.... but the Captain did it for over 20 years I was trusting him. We were using small single hooks, turning up the drag can rip the hook out... it was a great trip afterall! Worth it!

@@TTangOutdoors Your Captain explained, barbless hooks require no slack so the salmon can't throw the hook.
