@bycreativepaula I have viewed somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 gabillion art-related videos. 🤪 Right now, yours are my favorite, and your channel is the one I come back to most consistently. These sketchbook idea videos are *exactly* what I want and need in several ways: just the pure ideas to jumpstart me, the mindset behind the painting, the approach, and the peek into your individual mental processes. I just wanted you to know that. Thanks so much for your time and heart!💜
Thank you for saying the unsaid! I'm so afraid of ruining once I start making any art piece and stop in the middle of anything goes wrong or I don't find it good! It's just the fear I need to let go. Found your channel recently, never loved water colours this much before, thanks again! ❤
Thank you so much for your beautiful comment! I truly hope this inspires you to move past the fear with me! And that you are having fun! Keep me posted ❤️
These turned out so nice! How satisfying (for you and the viewers!). Ooh, that fear of failure. I keep chanting 'trust the process' as I'm pushing through an ugly painting but sometimes it ends up in the trash anyway. All I can do is try it again or move on to something else more in my comfort zone to get the confidence back. Recently I threw out a failed painting and what made it hurt more was that I was brave and used my expensive paints on it. I'm still grumpy about it but all I can do is let it go and try again.
Yes definitely try again! But may I ask; why did you throw it away? What surface were you working on? Also don’t feel bad about using your expensive materials; using them shows your gratitude for having them and life will bring more of them to you ❤️
@@bycreativepaula I was using gouache in a 160gsm sketchbook. I'd already tried a couple layers and didn't think it could handle any more. Since it's a painting of a leaf on the ground, I figured watercolor pencils might work better for translucency and detail so maybe I'll try that next. Thank you for asking ❤️
I love how you replace the fear factor with the notion of just have fun - experiment. Don't worry about mistakes. It's only paper. Such great motivation and encouraging advice especially for beginners who can't seem to get started (like me). I also love how you blow up and frame your artwork. So unique and absolutely beautiful! The world needs more of that divine feminine energy.
❤Thanks Paula ! I absolutely love your process and mindset around anxieties- it’s really helping me work through my own in a more positive way. Your first page looks like the reverse coloring book with the watercolor then going over it with the marker and pencils make it pop. I have been bringing my sketchbook with me lately when i go out to do doodles here or there and kinda just try not to make it perfect. Today I started a concept sketch for a contest i plan on entering. I am not confident with my art but i want to push myself out of my comfort zone and try anyways.
This might sound like a silly question, but… how do you go from sketchbook page to large print on your wall? Your art is just…breath taking. I pause the video so many times just to take in all the detail. So grateful I found your videos ❤

Thank you for the inspiration. I'm always worried I will 'ruin' it. 😆 Can you tell me how I could blow up my sketch book page, like you do, to see how it would look as a painting on a wall?
Questions I have as a brand new water color enthusiast. --and as: NOT an artist, with minimal dabbling in oil paints, previously (Bob Ross tutorial style). 1. do you use a water cup to clean your brushes between colors? 2. do you then dry your brush, use fresh clean water to start with another color? 3. do you use a spray bottle to spray your palette before using? 4. should I worry about mixing colors in the palette on the color brick?
Ohhh my answers might not be what you expect haha: 1. Sometimes 2. Sometimes 3. No 4. I wouldn’t because you can rinse them out; I sometimes make a mess on top of the pans because I get carried away in my painting process, but I usually try to mix the color on the side First play, then practice, then worry about what you “should” be doing… have fun!!!
Let me know what type of sketchbook ideas you would like to see next! I left a poll on my community tab 😊

Ohhh my answers might not be what you expect haha:
1. Sometimes
2. Sometimes
3. No
4. I wouldn’t because you can rinse them out; I sometimes make a mess on top of the pans because I get carried away in my painting process, but I usually try to mix the color on the side
First play, then practice, then worry about what you “should” be doing… have fun!!!
I ran around the house to find out what alarm or reminder kept going off. Finally realized it is in the video.
