King’s Provost Gillian Tett in Conversation with E-Lab Associate Michaela Kadlecova.
🔹 About Gillian: Gillian Tett is the new Provost of King's and was a chair of the editorial board and editor-at-large, US of the Financial Times. Anthropologist by background (PhD from Cambridge), she writes weekly columns, covering a range of economic, financial, political and social issues and co-founded Moral Money, the FT sustainability newsletter.
She has been named Columnist of the Year (2014), Journalist of the Year (2009) and Business Journalist of the Year (2008) in the British Press Awards, and received three awards from America's Society of Business and Economic Writers Awards. She is a best-selling author and received the Royal Anthropological Institute Marsh Award and the American Anthropological Association President Medal for her work in social science.
Tett’s past roles at the FT have included US managing editor, assistant editor, capital markets editor, deputy editor of the Lex column, Tokyo bureau chief, and a reporter in Russia and Brussels.
🔹 About the King’s E-Lab and what’s next: The E-Lab is a project aimed at equipping students with entrepreneurial skills and support those wishing to explore a career path in innovation, entrepreneurship and business. The year-long extracurricular programme is aimed at students from various degree paths and any subject (from undergrads to postdocs). The programme includes an intensive week-long residential and regular lectures, visiting mentors, entrepreneur-in-residence and more. Emphasis is put on developing sustainable and ethical projects with a positive social and environmental impact as well as expanding entrepreneurial skills to students outside of the business school. The project is led by two King’s Fellows - Kamiar Mohaddes and Thomas Roulet, alongside student associates.
