Hi Jan and Tony, we have just returned from Lechlade and can confirm the stay there is fantastic. There are a couple of free moorings, but the Meadow on the left prior to Ha’penny Bridge charges £5 per night or £25 for the week. We stay 11 nights and contemplated staying there with all the scary low water level reports on the Oxford Canal. There are sometimes cows in the field!
Oh those 40 degree days were the worst. Sat under a tree most of the day hoping for a little breeze. Getting cooler now and more manageable. 😎 See you soon....😉
Thanks for taking us on a lovely cruise on The Mighty Thames and you've almost got to where we picked up our hire boat at Caversham boats in 2019 which was a lovely holiday. Take care and all the best. Stevie
What a fascinating video. So much history you folks have in the UK. Like to see wifey steering the narrowboat. We had a pontoon boat and I always enjoyed "driving". We, of course, have steering wheels which makes it so much like driving a car. Take care folks and travel safe. Sandi from US
Lots of good information as well as history. Your video quality is excellent. You have a real eye for composing scenes, and the music accompanying them. Love the drone footage. Nice work! Thank you for sharing your journey. 🙏😊🤗 Kathy
Lechlade is lovely. There’s a Christmas Shop, well worth a visit, The Trout, great food and Monica’s Fish & Chip shop, also good food with a small indoor eating area at the back. There is the Riverside pub, but we went once and were told we would have a 1.5 hour wait for a sandwich!! (That was about 7 years ago but it put us off going again). Enjoy your Thames cruise 🥰
A great video - full of (mostly correct) information. As a long time ex canal and Thames boater might I add - The locks from Oxford downstream are all electrically operated with clear instructions. There are some EA moorings (mostly at locks) free for the first night and payable after. There are some private moorings, others available for a charge and even more bits of bank where you can just tie up.... If you don't mind bulying a book - The River Thames Book by Chris Cove-Smith, is good value. Now out of print but often available on Amazon or Ebay. Most of the information is still current - things don't change that quickly! In a lock going down or upstream AWAYS use two lines (ropes) and not a centre line only. It's an EA rule and the lockie could get a bollocking (or worse) if he lets you use one only. The locks empty quickly and your boat can bang about with a risk of hitting other boats if you use only one line only. Enough..
Hi Henry thank you for your comments most of which we're already aware. However, whilst bow and stern lines are required if you have crew, if you are single handed, or your one crew member has to work the lock, then holding with the centre line is perfectly acceptable.
Getting better each day. Being here has actually been helpful because she hasn't had to work big locks and can just chill and relax. Are you now all 'fixed?' ❤️

Did you get a new camera. Video is very clear. I have been watching your videos for a while and must tell you that you are doing a great job and getting a lot more confident. Well done. Love the Thames. Wish I could do that trip.
Same camera just the panoramic views are a lot different, and of course, the light makes a big difference. Glad to hear you're enjoying the videos, thank you so much 👍 😊

Thank you for that info Dale, very helpful. Looks like we're going to be stating a while longer here until levels rise abit on the Oxford 👍
Loved seeing this Vlog. Looks like it may be a little cooler by the time we hit the Thames.

Another beautiful trip...thank you. Those lock cottages are absolutely beautiful....someone has a green thumb for sure!
Thank you Catherine. Think it's down to the lockies who are responsible for the flowers and keeping the locks tidy 👍

Thanks Stevie. Seen lots of Caversham hire boats, but still relatively quite this year on the water. Take care! 👍

Awwww thank you so much Kathy. ❤️
We do spend an awfully long time picking the music. Being an ex musician it's obviously a key element for me.

good vid
Cheers! 👍
why are sunken boats not removed as they impede navigation...
Good question!
I think they have to give the owner the opportunity to remove it themselves, that's if they know who the owner is!
