Hi, your work is amazing! I love watching! I live alone not😢 so I thought I need a hobby or a way of making money, hopefully this awful Government won’t take most of what I might make. I’m trying to find medium Geodes that are empty, do you sell anything on eBay? I must find a couple to start with. The UK doesn’t seem to have any! Lol. I wish you were my son! Your laugh makes me laugh and I love seeing you happy, take no notice of horrible people who say rubbish things to upset you, they are not worth the time of day! You’re a great guy, you have a huge heart and a wonderful soul 😊 please rely about your shop please 🙏 take care, luv Christine 😅 (age 75) xx
Thinner slabs work for making guitar picks, I've made slabs that were about 1/8" thick so I could make picks. I sell them for about $10 a piece and they go fast.
Many year's ago, 1960's-1970's, there wasn't a lot of information out there about protecting one's health except for using Plenty of water for sawing-cutting-sanding- polishing one's stones. Nothing like the breathing apparatus you're using. Hopefully the few stones, perhaps the hundred or so stones, I did by hand using plenty of water for all stages was enough. When I began learning about cutting-polishing, using a variety of lapidary machines, I was in my early 20's. Haven't cut, etc., any stones in the past 20+ years. Next year will be in my mid-80's.
Dude. Every once in a while the guy humor just comes out. The bucket scene made me forget about the rest of the video. Have a great weekend and happy hounding.
To Taylor’s mom: You’ve raised a fine young man! I also appreciated the personal touches added to the safety portion of the video, not just the facts, but how it can negatively affect your life. Also appreciate your sly humor 😂
Fun! Finally got a Gem Maker working (10" from the early 60's). Such a fun game changer. And it all started when I got a 7" tile saw after watching you years ago. YOU DID THIS TO ME 🤣 Thank You! safety first !!!
A tile saw is good to practice on if you’re just starting out, or if you want to slab some lower quality rocks without ruining a potential good piece. And they are more affordable, so you can decide if you’d like to invest in the hobby or not.
Man, I’m a rockhound from the 60s. I wish I had the place to cut. On the other hand, I moved from the swamps of Louisiana and now live in Tucson. I’ll be meeting so many cool people here for the big show. Can’t wait. Thanks for sharing.
Perfect video for what I planned to do tomorrow-cutting slabs for the first time on my Hi-Tech 10”! 😁👍. Thanks Taylor 🥰 And thanks for reminding me about ear protection. I already have constant tinnitus from driving a noisy school bus for 33 years.
Taylor, Thanks for showing the slabbing process and the gorgeous results! I've got some rocks that I'd love to do that to, but I'm not brave enough to do it at 70. And thanks for sharing that beautiful purple and white one! WOW!
Thank you! I am also one of those people who loves collecting stones, and I have long dreamed of starting to process them. But for now I process them manually)
You convinced me to slab my Jasper. Stromatolite Jasper. I have had it for a really long time. Couldn't quite bring myself to do anything except love it. 🥰🥰🥰 Great video.
Hey from the UK 👋🏻 my 8 year old son Leo loves all things gems, minerals and Crystals and absolutely loves watching your videos. Not many agates here in the UK but your recent video of rockhounding at the lake has inspired us to go on our own agate hunting trip! Anyway - He wanted to ask you a question which is: “some of the agates you cut are so tiny, have you ever cut your finger whilst cutting one of the tiny agates?” Thanks!
Auto feed saws are the way to go if you want the best results with slabs. They can be a little spendy depending on what you get, but there are so many advantages. Just to name a few: More versatile. Perfectly even slabs to the thickness you set, Ability to cut very thin or thick, less chipping/breaking, Less waste, Blades last considerably longer. Zero blade marks (if not zero, then very few and very faint), Much less, if no, finishing work. Higher value slabs due to no blade marks and even slabs. Prominent blade marks in most rocks is usually a sign of needing to replace the blade, it was not clamped down good enough or machine needs tuning.
I like you naming the rocks. I don't know if I'll remember the exact name, but at least I'll recognize them next time. You also answered a question I've had for awhile: how are the slabs cut so even? I couldn't picture how a ruler with fit with a saw! 😃
Hi Taylor, next time you do a 'how to' video could you talk a bit about what you do when you get towards the end of a cut? I notice you turn the rock up and down a bit rather than continue straight, I'm guessing this is to minimise the risk od breakeage as the rock gets to the end? Is that something you've worked out through experience or something you were taught? Or is it just a funny habit that makes no difference? Love your videos and your appreciation of the beauty in the rocks.
Would it be possible to mail you a box of rocks? I have a stalactite I want polished and I can't find anywhere to do it. Of course I would include some Pennsylvania goodies for you
Lapidary saws are much easier to cut a variety of rocks. Tile saws will work but they are much slower, you get a lot of chip out with a lot of material loss, and it's a poor quality cut. I just got my 6" saw from Hi-Tech and it's a game changer.
Thanks for sharing all your videos and experience. I have just started rock hounding (71 years young), and I would like to make something nice out of some of the stones I have. You have stated that you use a sintered blade in your 10” Hi-Tech saw. Is this the best one to use or is it your preference, maybe both. Would you mind sharing your experience on blades? Thank you for your time.
Je suis au Maroc. Puis-je acheter une machine pour tailler et polir les pierres précieuses ? Je veux que vous me dirigiez vers un endroit qui vend les machines, merci.
I keep checking the Etsy store and never see any polished rocks for sale. Do you not put them on the Etsy store or are they purchased so quickly that I never get to see them? LOL I do love your channel though.
Please stop saying Studly and stud muffin and all things Stud. It's in reference to an animal's sex!!! Gross to hear a dad talk this way. I'm not trying to be rude and I watch your videos but I don't like weird language like they.
"Stud" refers to a male animal used for breeding, usually reserved to talking about horses, not gender. What's "Gross" is people thinking that they are so important that they can request another person change the way they talk. There are plenty of other people out there absolutely murdering the English language, why don't you go comment on their videos?
Check out these amazing cut Brazilian agates! ua-cam.com/video/QDSuUGPwDkg/v-deo.html

The clip with the bucket...classic Dad Humor™

Thanks for sharing the PPE that’s highly appreciated. Tinnitus is truly a pain. I share the same experience. Love this tutorial of slab cuttings❤

😂 have fun!!
I think this is the first time I have seen a slabbed stone! I know that I have wondered what many would look like.
Thank you for sharing.
Maryellen jasper…POW! Love a countertop done with cuts of that
Loved the "how to" video! Great way to learn about and appreciate what you do!
I’m glad you enjoyed!
As a biologist 'it's just a number, doesn't matter', I disagree! Nonetheless, love your videos, great work.
It still doesn’t matter lol
Just a little patience! Where have I heard that before? Great video , very informative. Beautiful slabs. Thanks for sharing.

Was about to ask this. Appreciate the advice.
That charolite is just stunning!!!🥰🥰🥰
14:50 - We should name this VanGoghite.
thought it was starry night as well.

Thanks, will do!
That last one that was purple 💜 is Gorgeous.
I love Charoite! That slab is beautiful! I own a ring and pendant and I absolutely love them!
Thank you! I am also one of those people who loves collecting stones, and I have long dreamed of starting to process them.
But for now I process them manually)
You could probably turn those cuts into a display shelf for tiny agates :-)
The bucket scene had me 😂
🤣
Thanks for so much education! I just got started and appreciate your videos.
When you opened the first cut my first thought was 'it looks like fall threw up inside that rock' haha love it
❤
You convinced me to slab my Jasper. Stromatolite Jasper. I have had it for a really long time. Couldn't quite bring myself to do anything except love it. 🥰🥰🥰 Great video.
That prized possession of Charoite is woohoo. I've learned yet another thing from you having never heard of it. Loved this slabbing vid too.
Great vid. Love that purple slab!

I’m glad :)
The basalt is my favorite!
I’m impressed by 3 people in the agate community. Yourself, Theo K and Joshua from Agatebay. Excellent content across the board.
Good fellers right there
Mary Ellen Jasper was also my grandmother's name.....
There is a really cool rock shop in Bloomington that has some BIG slabs and other specimens.
I like you naming the rocks. I don't know if I'll remember the exact name, but at least I'll recognize them next time. You also answered a question I've had for awhile: how are the slabs cut so even? I couldn't picture how a ruler with fit with a saw! 😃

I have a lot of slabbing for the weekend.
Nice!

Mmmm, Taco Bell, though not the reference I was expecting this morning. LOL.
🤣

Are there any types of handsaws (non electric) that can be used to make slabs?
One day I hope you can show how to cut stones without electricity. ❤
How do you empty the rock sludge in your lapidary saw? How to do you polish slabs?
Thanks for sharing all your videos and experience. I have just started rock hounding (71 years young), and I would like to make something nice out of some of the stones I have. I have severe tinnitus😬 😩
I can see why it's called galaxy stone - those slabs resemble the Hubbel Deep Field photo!
Do one time Normal speed so we get a feel for actual time.

They get purchased quickly, more should be up today/tomorrow
♥
I’ve seen a galaxy stone…what is it?
WHAT????😂😂😂😂🤣🤣😂🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂
Why are all the stones so expensive? I couldn't even afford one in it's natural state and a lot of them I can't find where I live😢😢😢
What are you referring to?
@@AgateDadI think the reference is to the price of roughs.
❤😂
OMG😂😂😂😂😂
👍💜👍💜👍
Oh, Ho Ho Ho
What😂😂

How is saying “stud muffin” anywhere related to an animals sex? Lol people are wild these days.

You can't carbon date rocks!
Carbon can date anything it wants. It just uses Grinder.
