    For most of us, "last gen" is perfectly fine. The updates to the newest printers, such as tilting plates and heated vats, are just niceties. I have multiple Mars3P and looking for more to keep for parts.

    Glad to see you use my adapter for the vent. I feel like it can't get any inflow of air so it struggles to vent. I made another part to allow inflow, which works okay but the in and out are to close together. I am thinking now of adding some kind of one way air valve somewhere on the other side of the case.

    I love my Saturn 3 and the simplicity of it. It works great and has less superfluous "features" that I don't need but can break and stop the whole printer from working. It's just a solid workhorse of a printer.

    One of the big upgrades i did with resin printing was putting a flexibale cutting mat in a $1 cooking tray for removing prints from the build plate. When i'm done i just put the whole thing outside then roll up the matt to get rid of resin.

    I picked up a saturn 3 about a month ago, ive been trying to print the raft test ever since. Each print i do, i have about 3 rafts on the build plate and the rest in the vat.
    In fact, the only time I've ever had ALL 9 on the plate was when I accidentally left everything loose after troubleshooting.
    The only thing i can think of is that the desk my printer is on might not be 100% level?

  • @jasonnewman3355
    @jasonnewman3355 4 місяці тому

    So I honestly think there is huge value in a review timed like this. I feel like every generation of printer gets new people into the hobby, and I can't imagine the Saturn 4 isn't following that pattern given the hype. Being able to see what really changed from the last generation with a perspective of *WHAT IS AVAILABLE TODAY* rather than watching a video from a year or two ago is great info for someone looking to make a purchase.
    The nature of all reviews is that they will eventually age to less relevance but that full review being more up to date is something you're not actually getting anywhere else that I know of. While the most important time for reviews of a product is around the initial release, I'd say the second most important is when that product's direct replacement is releasing. Which is wild... because this is the only video I can think of timed like this that I've seen.

    Few things.
    I love your random content, its great fun.
    For the the vent adaptor, a backplane would be a good idea (and easy) as it would spread the load significantly. Although unlikely to be an issue with the low load it would be a very cheap and easy appraoch to limit the likelihood of fracturing the acrylic over time.
    More rabbit content. To anyone that hasnt had a rabbit as a pet, you will think people are mad when they say they are smart, affectionate and fun pets. When we got one my mind was blown.

    Yeah, flex plates on a Saturn kinda sucks. The magnet will peal off eventually and I eventually went back to printing on the bed. I hate printing on the bed because using a scraper has a chance of throwing off the bed level.

    Going over 8k resolution is overkill for miniatures. The fact is that you have companies (Titan Forge) doing digital sculpting and resin printing the production masters for SioCast with the Anycubic Mono X 6k. With that fact known, you don’t even have to go with anything over 6k resolution.

    My Saturn 3 (Ultra), had weird issues with delaminations, despite what the reddit/facebook nerds were telling me, I ended up increasing my burn-in time and count, and my transition layers, and I stopped having delaminations altogether. So no idea if that'll help fix it for you, but it absolutely did for me. All the facebook/reddit nerds yelled at me cause it would cause issues for large models, but if it works I ain't gonna complain. Guess I'll find out once I print a Titan

    I know this may not be the place but I have tried the raft of adhesion and they stay on but when I try to print the RERF test 2 or 3 will fall off. I have leveled the bed at least 20 times and I have tightened my fep but I still keep getting the same result

    • @OnceinaSixSide
      @OnceinaSixSide  4 місяці тому +1

      Then your bed is level but your burn in time is insufficient. Increase by 10 to 15 seconds, and if they're still not sticking very well, try scuffing up your build plate with 40 grit sandpaper.

    why are none of the models hollowed? I usually skin mine down to 1.8mm thick max. It means I use less resin & the models weigh way less - so they both don't break so easily if you drop them, and are harder to pick as prints once in play.

    • @flowinsounds
      @flowinsounds 4 місяці тому

      i've had some models i hollowed and printed over a couple of years ago now, and there's been no issues at all with them (ABS-like, iso clean, water cure, simple green ultrasonic flush), so the fear of 'uncured' resin inside is just fear.

    Elegoo, I've been waiting for Dice's review of the Saturn 4 Ultra before pushing the button and buying one. Now I know why there hasn't been a review yet. I'm dismayed why you haven't sent him one to review, given the range of people who you did send one to - people with very little to no prior history of reviewing printers. (Yes I'm in the miniature/40K printing space). Because of their lack of experience and by extension understanding of printers I simply wouldn't but anything based on their opinions.
    Dice on the other hand... He has significant experience and knowledge in the miniature printing area. His large number of videos have a high degree of credibility as a result. I would be willing to buy a printer based on his opinions.

    Elegoo, as someone about to take the leap into Resin Printing for the first time, being able to watch this channel for an objective, user-focused, and practical review/first look is so important when making the decision on what to buy. Get this guy your printers! If I can't make an informed decision from an objective, user-focused look, I'm not spending.
    Appreciated the practical printing suggestions that all too often are unspoken by people - assumed knowledge is a real hurdle for someone just starting with Resin Printing - I come from an FDM background and the only resin knowledge I have is as a end user purchaser of finished resin products so basically zero.
    One of the things that I'm finding is just how much ancillary stuff you need to have before you even contemplate your first print - Washing, Drying, Curing plans and solutions, Resin and materials disposal, even locating a source for Resin that is within the budget. I think the printer itself can end up only accounting for around 25-50% of the initial setup costs if you are starting from scratch. Far different from FDM for sure.

    On the subject of flex plates, Ive tried with 2 different printers to get the wham bam system to work. Worked great for like a month but then ran into constant failures. I thought maybe the build plate was warped but after I took off the magnet pad, I haven't run into a failure (due to not sticking) since. I'm thinking the magnet pad maybe pulled up on one side causing an uneven surface. But I don't know for sure.
