my wife had me helping around the house! by the time i got to the game, i had horrible luck getting interdicted, one of those caustic mines exploded in my face, but i made it thru the maelstrom, boosting towards the titan and i saw the whole thing from the asteroid belt... this was by far the most epic gaming experience ever. we all fought so hard to bring that thing down. i lost appx 100 million in rebuys. even gankers were swarmed by the bugs. this is the only time ive loved playing in open. we were constantly helping strangers repair. more of this please Fdev
I have been looking for the right words to express my absolute shock at what Frontier has achieved with this event, but you said it best. No cut-scene, live for thousands of random players - for this player, in glorious, full 3-dimensional VR. There has NEVER been anything like it anywhere. But to have it in a game anyone can buy for just a few dollars is nothing short than the pinnacle of game publishing achievements. Congratulations to everyone involved at Frontier Developments. *** BIG shout-out to former FDev members, and key contributor to this special event, Tom Kewell (and Robin McGovern?)
I was there for four of the hearts dropping, including the last one, in OPEN no less. I was there for the final meltdown explosion as well, in the AXI instance, with numerous other independent pilots. Absolutely astounding. I can't believe they managed to pull it off so smoothly, so seamlessly. It was literally like being inside of a movie, except as you said, all of it was in-game. Discord channels were totally bonkers. It was an incredible time. Looking forward to buying some celebratory ARX, if for no other reason than to "vote with my dollars" so that this sort of thing keeps coming!
Oh and while the visuals were certainly stunning, the SOUND. I found the audio most impressive actually when the last heart dropped; the Titan let out this wail, considerably different from the other sounds it makes, and for a moment, I experienced a flash of sadness for it. The scattered explosions for the subsequent 24 hours echoing through the asteroids...jaw dropping stuff.
Definitely the coolest thing I've seen or been a part of in Elite. Congrats and thanks to everyone at frontier. Also top camera work as usual, Rheeney's awesome.
Good point - when viewing one of the next seven titan deaths, if you're in a multicrew vessel, be sure to invite commanders to telepresence in - especially explorers who can't make it back.
I missed the event "in person" because I made a mistake converting UTC to my time zone. But I got to watch it live on the Buur Pit Discord, which was amazing. I'll be there for the next one!
Impressive event, although I was staring at a crash to desktop bug repot screen when it happened...It's sad that we never got to do any on foot content inside the Titan
I had just gotten online when the final heart was destroyed. Was on my way to Taranis when I got the message that it was in meltdown. So glad I managed to watch the explosion from the front row. Started my attack runs on Leigong now.
3:10 - That internal explosion, The spikes around the edges of the Thermal Core glowing yellow briefly and the entire face glowing red was awesome, I can't stop watching that back.
I was part of taking this big fella down, but I wasn't present to see the 24hr later explosion as real life got in the way. Thank you so much for showing it here! o7 AXI, Glory to Mankind!
What an incredible moment to be part of. Given we didn’t know what to expect I must give Rheeney all the credit for some incredible footage. Nicely done Buur’s! 🎉
Leviathan Squadron had ended our exploration mission after over a year in the Formadine rift to assist in ridding the bubble of the Titans. See you soon, and o7!
The assault on Taranis and its obliteration on Saturday was by far the most satisfying moment of any videogame I have ever experienced. I was pleased to be involved in the attack and blasted 1000s of round of the enzyme tipped MC rounds into the exerted core and it was always thrilling and exhilarating. Sadly, I was stranded by the roadside next to a broken van when the live event happened on Saturday, but was lucky enough to be able to watch the AXI livestream and saw the events in real time. Even my other half couldn't resist looking over my shoulder to see what all the fuss was about. A mighty O7 to Frontier. How they managed to deliver such an epic conclusion to the tale of that first stargoid with only a small bunch of devs in a live multiplayer game, I'll never understand.
Managed to get there for a couple attack runs on the last heart, the life happened on Friday, but watched the fireworks on Saturday firsthand. It was truly Epic! A great foe has fallen, and history was made. Befitting of the franchise's 40th anniversary, it was monumental, solemn and awesome. o7 CMDRs!
I gotta say, although this is only the beginning of the end. Fdev. Has really outdone themselves. This was an amazing prologue for what is now to come. Well done CMDRs, well done...o7
I wasn't fast enough to do the assault itself, and when I finally got off work, the final heart was already destroyed. But I was there for the explosion, and I feel lucky for that! I was streaming on discord for a few friends who couldn't make it in-game, and we all audibly gasped at the final explosion.
FDev really knocked it out of the park on this one! 1st(?) live in game event of such scale & letting us witness it was genius on their part..Bravo FDev!!
just goes to show what they can do with this game when they put their heart and soul into it. taken a break for a year or so but definitely going to hop back in to witness a few more of these.
I was there and it was one of best in-game events I ever have been part of. ❤ The cloud constantly pushes you away. Sitting there, the thrusters constantly fight back to maintain the distance. Great video. o7
Hats off to fdev and all cmdrs who took place in this event…it truly was a spectacular experience for those who could join..sadly I missed it by 10 minutes due to server glitches, which meant I couldn’t jump into the system. Truly an historic and lore commanding experience..nice vid and my usual thanks to the Burr family.
I tried to get in to do damage to the core, but being new at it, I failed twice to get in. It was a steep learning curve for someone who's never touched Thargoid combat at all. Still, I finally managed to get in, but only after the Titan was critically damaged, and before the Saturday detonation, just to see what was there. Then, on Saturday, with just a few seconds to go, I was half way through the caustic cloud when Taranis blew, throwing me, and everyone else, out of the cloud. It was glorious! I've since had a couple of full-on runs at Leigong now, joining in with other Cmdr's in hitting the core, so I will at least get something for that. They say paintjobs and a decal, so I'm told, with rumors of ship kits too. I just need to make sure I hit each of the remaining Titans as they start being taken down too.
I only managed to reach Taranis for the very first time with only about 40 seconds to spare on the timer. While a shame I didn't get to take part in the assault itself, thus no rewards, it was still an amazing experience to get to witness. A giant o7 to Fdev and to the community. Hopefully I'll get the chance to earn some decals from some of the other Titans, but just being witness to the fall of the first is reward enough for me.
I missed the assault, so my first view of a titan was perhaps 20 seconds before it exploded, I so nearly missed all of it. And as always you manage to catch all the details I missed in the hectic moment.
I was there; shared all the same feels. Thank you so much for putting it into words and creating this one of a kind memento. I can hear the emotion in your voice.... well done.
It's been a long time coming, but it looks like a new chapter in the Thargoid war in Humanity's favor! I wasn't there sadly, but you guys keep feeding me amazing footage and edits of this insane event! FDev definitely outdid themselves with this, to hell with what the naysayers say. +1 for Frontier, and CMDR Rheeney's crazy live-combat footage from the final hour of Taranis!
I was there in Open close range dodging a Glaive and an Interceptor as it began. Truly a site to behold! Excellent video and footage, Commander. Looking forwards to being there for the next one. o7
Being present for several heart destructions and then being on deck for the final kaboom has been nothing short of thrilling. And, while I am currently taking a short break to farm engineering materials, you can bet that I'll be joining my fellow CMDRs in the XSF for future strikes against all 7 remaining Titans. o7 CMDRs, Wing Up and Strike, and Glory to Mankind
I was there for the assault and the destruction of Taranis and even 2 days later I'm still buzzing from it! Great effort from not only Frontier but also the player community!
Missed it, being based in Colonia makes interacting with Thargoids difficult, that being said - I've taken steps to not miss another one of such events.
This was the coolest thing i have ever seen in elite. Glory to mankind! 7 more to go. o7 Additionally, i felt as if the assault on Taranis had no big event associated with it. People went to attack it, then more followed, then more followed, then even more followed, and soon over half the community was assaulting it. Absolutely incredible.
Amazing coverage of this unique event! As always the quality is just perfect. We can even see some kind of gravitational lens effect on the surrounding stars of the secondary explosion. Thanks a lot for this great recap and astounding views! Taranis will be remembered. o7
I have to admit it made me wish I had been available to participate in this event, even though I haven't been interested in the whole thargoid situation since Odyssey. Quite impressive indeed and a great report as well! o7
I’m in the strange boat of a original 1984 BBC player who bought a KS copy but has never played it due to not having a PC able to run games😂 I have followed the journey through LAVE radio pod casts and had to find what this looked like after listening today to the latest. Great stuff…….👍
was in game, on the other side of the galaxy atm. Was amusing though, getting the update messages via the comms panel as Taranis approached destruction.
This was amazing. I missed out on the up and close by multi interdictions on my way there. But just the fact that you didnt have to be up close to see how big it was amazing.
The closing comments on this bring me to a point of hopeful suggestion to F Dev. 7 more titans to follow similar fates, it would be good if the times of their final throws be staggered to take into account the many players in other time zones than UK. This event happened at 6 AM Australian and even though I did a small amount of damage the night before I could not watch the spectacle live. If anyone from Frontier reads this, maybe take this suggestion on board !!
I stayed away from going up against a titan focusing more on the spire sites but just had to go and see the demise of taranis. and what a journey to get there! got caught up most of the day with running errands for people then I get in game giving myself 2 hours to make 7 jumps and what i thought may be a few attempts getting used to the thargoid pulse neutraliser not realising it wasnt needed anymore. make it through to the titan in open and even though the comms not being able to keep up was a huge sign it was full of commanders the scanner panel lit up like a new years parade and it was breath taking, a swirling sea of commanders and foe all lit with explosions and the cacophany of sound. few movies have done it better, then i got blown apart by a fellow commander lol, no worries still an hour and a half left, no sir, not so easy this time, three interdictions then my joystick went and gave in, few taps strategically with the side of my cup and away i went again, got back to the titan and got taken down by some now seriously aggrieved killer sprouts, finally made it back to the front row with 48 seconds left on the clock. What followed as others have said was arguably the best piece of ingame content of any large game in a very long time, certainly with the sheer number of commanders present and it being realtime not cutscene. Now i have to go and help take down the others as seeing one up close, thats content that no sane person should choose to not experience, well done Fdev and well done Buur and Co for always presenting content in such an enjoyable fashion, Ps i must have got lucky i only got thrown 125km away :D
That little "Objective completed" at the very end I feel was such a nice little bit of icing on the cake. Huge props to FDev for putting on such a wonderful show, I'm legit excited to see how they can top this!
I've not even sneezed in the Thargoids direction. All got a bit too complicated with AX this, caustic that, needing obscure materials, kitchen sinks and all. Just carried on building up my second player account avoiding the conflict. They've just ignored me when I've run into them. Given I've come across Guardian sites way out the other side of the galaxy in the opposite direction from where we first found them. I guess the Thargoids had to have been there too. So they are not going away anytime soon as far as i can tell.
Been away from game for a long long long time now, but will have to come back and hopefully help fight and witness the fall of the next Titan.. Funny, I'd always thought about and wanted some kind of real time interaction from FDEV server side to mess with and create some theatre for CMDRs and now finally we get some...
Whoa, that looked incredible. Maybe I should have delayed going on an extended exploration trip a few weeks. I wouldn't have had time this weekend, anyway, but I hope those other titans last a few months and I get to see the last one when I'm back. Maybe I should make a second account just for watching a titan die... but I fear the engineering grind to get a stealthy ship that can watch from the sidelines.
To the questions; No No No But my hat is still off to all the brave anti-goid hunters who are putting their time on the line to raidX the galaxy back into a human-focused game.
I’m just trying to grasp the sheer velocity involved in that scenario, struggling to compute the speed of player ships being catapulted up to speeds of 5,000ms in the blast wave. That’s one hell of a ride! 5,000ms - that’s 18,000 kilometres per hour or 11,184 miles per hour. Compare this, for a moment, to: 1) A projectile from a railgun here on earth. Those projectiles can reach speeds up to and _sometimes_ exceed 2,000ms, but 5,000ms is _beyond_ those rail gun projectiles. 2) The space shuttle, in its time, could re-enter the earth’s atmosphere at speeds around 7,800ms. 3) _“The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird holds the official Air Speed Record for a crewed airbreathing jet engine aircraft with a speed of 3,530 km/h (2,190 mph).”_ (Wikipedia) 2,190mph = 979.0176ms I would love to see a video - edited together - showing multiple, side-by-side perspectives. Imagine a video showing not only the reactions of teams and individual commanders, but also video clips showing the reactions of the team at Frontier during these jaw dropping moments. To watch that huge collection of _gasps_ and _wows_ (plus other _choice words_ ) amongst the player community and the development team would really be something. Once again, kudos to all Commanders - both those who were there in the blinding light and final moments of Titan Taranis, and also to those Commanders out there exploring in the deep black expanse far-far beyond the bubble. o7 Commanders
Absolutely stunning, Discord servers alive with chatter all week and then the finale ........... as you say Mr Buur 'Hats off' it was just so good. Now onto the next one :)
I wanted to be there but bad time for me so watched Mechan's video later in the day; spectacular! Got me interested in joining the fight again so I can take part in at least 1 of these monsters first hand. Few reasons to thank Frontier for anything the last few years, but I would say congrats for this awesome conclusion...... finally! Unfortunately, I wasn't wrong about exposing that thermal core, (I guessed about a thousand times when we first found out this discovery.) So I'm pretty close, ouch! At least if enough peeps join-in on the fight with enough active instances simultaneously active, each Titan should go down every few days maybe????
I was there for the event as a representative of what bluestar could contribute i plan on assisting the continuation of our assaults in bombing mambas (remember your healing beams commanders they are overpowered) o7
I was running interdiction interference for other commanders- apparently, several times pulled out of super-cruise by the Thargs. (ship was too hot to sneak in.) My caustics sinks kept firing at the end of every jump till I disabled then with two left - is that a bug? I got within 100km of the center before learning to reverse at high speed. There was a huge pause before finally dropping into the vicinity of the cloud. The light show in VR was fantastic. I got the see the big boom before my ship finally dissolved into the the rebuy screen. I thought I was missing out- not being able to reach the center so kept boosting into the high caustic cloud. I heard commander Rolls Royce was hit by Gankers as he was trying to get to the event - I mean why do that?
Time to start on the next one - Titan Leigong. Some progress has been already made on first ring. If i understand correctly, for the other Titans, we will need to reduce their influence so as to be able to make an effective attack on the Titan it self.
My estimated time of return is next autumn. Pity I missed that fun to try. I went to the Void when those 8 things arrived, because game was constantly timeout on this fights. Maybe they fixed it already, but I will never know at this killing rate :D
I wish I could have experienced this live, but my work schedule wouldn't allow. I am curious about something. Since ED handles multiplayer in instances and not everyone attacking was in the same instance, (I assume, but thousands of ships all attacking at once would be awesome) how exactly did some things work? Did the core appear at the same time in all instances, or was each instance its own cycle but damage was accumulated? Or what happened if you entered an instance just as the last heart was destroyed, did you get a random message saying it was destroyed even though the core never appeared in your instance? Also curious, what was the highest number of commanders in a single instance from open play or just a large player group? I personally think it would be interesting if there ended up being a wormhole in the middle that lead to Thargoid space.
damn i would love to have seen this with my VR headset. hopefully i will get to see one of the others. fingers crossed there will always be a constant stream of at least 1 titan to attack in the game, however if not and ultimately it is going to go down in history, then i hope FD add the event into a replayable training exercise along with the other short gameplay snippets outside of the main game.
The Helldivers stand with you commanders.
o7
The dwarfs stand too, any bug killer is a good dwarf. Rock and Stone !
o7
We’re going to bring democracy to the Thargoids one Titan at a time! 😆

Well done Fdev and thansk to the AXi for clearing all the systems around teranis. Been away from my pc for all of this but theres 7 more to go.
My faith in elite dangerous is restoring I think I am gonna hop into the game again
I was there and it was one of best in-game events I ever have been part of. ❤
The cloud constantly pushes you away. Sitting there, the thrusters constantly fight back to maintain the distance.
Great video. o7
Tanaris takes both #1 and #2 (the arrival) spots of my all time fav gaming moments. Much better than a measly cut scene.
There was an incredible feeling of accomplishment, the silence that there was at the very end with the little « Objective completed » gave me chills
I go on vacation and the community achieves something cool. Bravo
Hats off to fdev and all cmdrs who took place in this event…it truly was a spectacular experience for those who could join..sadly I missed it by 10 minutes due to server glitches, which meant I couldn’t jump into the system. Spectacular! Didn't expect it to be executed so well.

Those flashes of lightning before the final explosion kind of remind me of a capital class FSD in operation...
that is very interesting... maybe its somewhere in the galaxy repairing... or perhaps a nearby galaxy, maybe raxxla will lead to them

I missed the assault, so my first view of a titan was perhaps 20 seconds before it exploded, I so nearly missed all of it. And as always you manage to catch all the details I missed in the hectic moment.
Still get the goosebumps and tingle watching this again. What a week. o7 Buurs!
Was sitting about 10km from Taranis when the fireworks began; the light show did not dissappoint!

I've seen a lot of things in Elite, but this takes the cake. Glad I was able to make it there after dealing with Fleet Carrier wait times all week.
yeah looks awesome. so sad I missed this one. But will surely be part of the next one. cheers
Absolutely epic! One of the greatest gaming moments I have ever witnessed. 🤩
Agreed - well done, Frontier.

Such a FEAT of Immersion !!
no wonder "Press ?? to disengage" never got an FDEV fix

I was there to witness this, all the commanders in my instance were (quite literally mates) blown away.

7 more titans to follow similar fates, it would be good if the times of their final throws be staggered to take into account the many players in other time zones than UK. This event happened at 6 AM Australian and even though I did a small amount of damage the night before I could not watch the spectacle live. If anyone from Frontier reads this, maybe take this suggestion on board !!
epic battle, epic victory... and an epic report+video (pls never delete it) o7
Never. O7
I was there also, o7 cmdrs! Glory to Mankind!
That little "Objective completed" at the very end I feel was such a nice little bit of icing on the cake. Huge props to FDev for putting on such a wonderful show, I'm legit excited to see how they can top this!
Sadly haven't been able to play all week, but looking forward to getting in on at least some of the remainder
Was there for last heart kill, was there for the big holy boom and yeeted kms away, trully an awesome moment
I couldn't take part. But im proud of every cmdr that did. This is a cmdr that's stuck offline on xbox.
Well I got some good shots bit forgot to set OBS to 4k 😢
Been away from game for a long long long time now, but will have to come back and hopefully help fight and witness the fall of the next Titan.. Funny, I'd always thought about and wanted some kind of real time interaction from FDEV server side to mess with and create some theatre for CMDRs and now finally we get some...
Aaargh couldn’t be there. Will definitely be there for the next Titan fall.
To the questions;
No
No
No
But my hat is still off to all the brave anti-goid hunters who are putting their time on the line to raidX the galaxy back into a human-focused game.
Compare this, for a moment, to:
1) A projectile from a railgun here on earth. Those projectiles can reach speeds up to and _sometimes_ exceed 2,000ms, but 5,000ms is _beyond_ those rail gun projectiles.
2) The space shuttle, in its time, could re-enter the earth’s atmosphere at speeds around 7,800ms.
3) _“The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird holds the official Air Speed Record for a crewed airbreathing jet engine aircraft with a speed of 3,530 km/h (2,190 mph).”_ (Wikipedia)
2,190mph = 979.0176ms
I would love to see a video - edited together - showing multiple, side-by-side perspectives.
Fantastic capture of the event! Hope that FDev continues on this path
Downright possibly the most single beautiful event in gaming history and the most insane effects ever
No longer a Stargoid, it became a Supernova Starfish.
My estimated time of return is next autumn. Pity I missed that fun to try. I went to the Void when those 8 things arrived, because game was constantly timeout on this fights. Maybe they fixed it already, but I will never know at this killing rate :D
Unfortunately decided to colonia a few weeks ago 🙁
The biggest weapon against the thargoids wasn't our lasers, sinks or ships. It was our disinterest!
damn i would love to have seen this with my VR headset. hopefully i will get to see one of the others.
fingers crossed there will always be a constant stream of at least 1 titan to attack in the game, however if not and ultimately it is going to go down in history, then i hope FD add the event into a replayable training exercise along with the other short gameplay snippets outside of the main game.
