  • Tomatin virgin oak (distillery exclusive 2024) a single cask from the highland distillery in Inverness. A distillery that has been around for a long time and at one point the largest producer of whisky in Scotland. This whisky is around 5 and a half years old.
Another uncorking and first thoughts on this bottle.
    As always let’s talk whisky

Thanks for shining a light on this distillery exclusive.
Visiting the distillery and trying the distillery exclusives are definately worth it.

So easy to get excited about all the great Tomatin-related products & news Kevin. Start off with this stand out Virgin Oak release, add that good looking Tomatin hoody, and then finish with the upcoming festival you will be working (also saw those 2 Tomatin bottles up on the top of your cabinet there, in the place of honor 😉) - and it's easy to get psyched about this distillery. Cheers!

    Interesting stuff, Kevin.
I bought 12 yo distillery bottling at Auchentoshan Distillery when visiting back in November of last year, also Virgin Oak matured, coincidentally also sitting at 90£. I haven't opened it yet, though, but did taste a dram from a similar cask at the distillery (yes, I know - it can be a huge difference).
In general, I find the distillery bottlings quite interesting (though way too expensive in some cases, e.g. Glengoyne), so when they had that 12 yo CS bottle at Auchentoshan I could not resist it.
By the way, I haven't tasted a whole lotta Auchentoshan whisky. Actually only the official bottlings, so there's more than a fair chance that this one will be the best I've ever had 😂

Great review mate and It will be interesting to see more of your reviews on Tomatin. A whisky I knew nothing about until I spoke to you.

Thanks for this interesting review. Seems to be a very positive example of an Virgin Oak bottling.
I did try the 15yo, but that showed the typical unpleasant Virgin Oak flavors.

I remember buying the Tomatin PX cask bottling during Covid, that was special but it was like 17yo and was £125, that one was incredible and was rinsed about as quickly as any bottle I've ever had! It came in the same presentation box which I still don't like, the Tomatin bottle with the special release labelling is good enough on its own.
Hope to see you tomorrow in Alloa.

Don’t usually go for such a young whisky but your review is sorely tempting me.

I went and filled my own Virgin Oak at the visitors centre at Tomatin the other month. Exact same as yours, mine’s bottle no.9 from cask 3721! Reluctant to open it for now so this is the best i’ll get 😂 did have a nip of it at the visitors centre before I bought. It was between this and the Cu Bocan 15, I thought this was quite special

The cu bocan is phenomenal too in its own right… I love the virgin oak. I reckon I’ll be going for another soon 😂
