just did my valve covers today, thanks for the advice. and to everyone out there, take his word about snugging the cover bolts on the edges only just hand tight. he was 100% correct about cracking on the edges. i found out the hard way and cracked my corner off which caused a massive leaked. hand tightened it this time and no leaks
Hi Kelvin great Vid. With regards to the Pcv valve, on my forced induction, what I did is I’ve drilled out the pcv valve and pulled out the spring and ball bearing and now free flows into a catch can and wrks great.

Want to find out if it will do anything by installing a oil catch can on it as well or leave it as is. Problem is that the 90° elbow fitting is facing forward making pipe routing difficult and one will need to remove elbow, tap hole to fit a 3/8'' BSP brass 90° male elbow barb hose fitting so it can face the firewall. The 90° elbow on the throttle body will then also need to be reduced so 3/8"
Just spent my Corona money on parts for the SC400. All OEM. Plugs, wires, caps, rotors, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, valve cover gaskets, power steering pump, water pump. Also got a steel braided high pressure power steering line from Driftmotion. I'm going to buy spark plug gaskets tomorrow. Also going to add some serious horsepower by painting the valve covers. Blue to match the car so that'll be double what you usually gain. Any other suggestions Kelvin while I'm doing my mini overhaul?
Hello. Looks like yo have the main stuff. Some seals for the front and maybe the bearings on the front accessory belt. Painting the tappet covers is worth at least 10hp at the rear wheels. Cheers Kelvin
Kelvin, do you ever drill off the rocker cover internal baffles to better clean underneath them? Or is that a bad idea.. just wanted to ask before I stuff a rocker cover by drilling it
Hi Calvin. I have a 1995 lexus sc400 1uzfe. i have light smoke coming from the rear of the engine not sure where it is coming from. Also im having a low rpm ilde at around 500 rpm car idles high at start up for about 10 minutes then idles low.. Car has been sitting for a year. And had to replace the battery a couple times. Are you familiar with any of these issues ??
Tappet cover gaskets are common thanks to age, idle speed controls I service and clean TB. Basic maintenance and servicing also helps. Confirming no parasitic voltage draw and alternator function for battery issue. Cheers
Thanks to that crazy suggestion I have however after trying it in the paddock it tends to grade all the bumps and goes no where when traction control is turned off. Diff definately requires both wheels to operate on soft ground.

What is the consequence of just putting them back in, the way they came out? 2) Is it correct to assume that -- because the head is aluminium -- that when screwing the bolts back in, said bolts should be only very lightly hand-snugged? I mean, "baby-fart," gently snugged. Thanks in advance.
The washers go hard as rocks as they are old. They are designed to be squishy when installed to allow for expansion and contraction as the covers warm and cool. Done incorrectly they either leak or much worse snap off the corner bolts of the covers. Who would reuse 25-30 year old rubber washers?
These are non genuine set however not a really cheap set. Look for set with all the components in it and a brand you know the name of and they are generally ok.
This is a customers car. My one is VVti unless you count the 3 soarers I recently acquired. Im staying well hidden in my workshop at the moment and happy to be doing so. Cheers Kelvin

@@CartuneNZ I agree I love the stock coloring. When working on mine I ended up making them yellow because after seeing old yellow over and over again, it grew on me. Then again figured blue truck with yellow engine isn't too bad.

Yes, its on my video list but its a long list. We generally acid dip the bad covers which gets 95% of the crap out so drilling covers isnt required
Can you do a video on the best way/"easiest" way to replace the egr pipe on a 1996 ls400?
If I get an ls400 which needs egr removed I'll do a video however most cars I see are jdm which don't have egr. Cheers Kelvin

Pretty sure my valve cover gaskets are shot and are leaking on the exhaust down below .. On right side.

Absolutely can be done without removing the intake. Remove the throttle body is required on non vvti.
