Its pointing towards a gen 1 for me. What does the rear crossover pipe look like? What size is the tappet cover breather? Cheers

Thanks bro for finding time to put such an informative video. I wish to find out on gen 1 and gen 2. I understand Gen 2 has skinny rods. How about pistons? Are they identical between gen 1 and gen 2?

Good day Kelvin. i have a 1uzfe vvti with a noisy right bank cylinder head. and then i have a 3uzfe with a bearing knock. can i use the 1uz crank in the 3uz or can i just put the 3uz cylinder heads on the 1uz. will this swaps be compatible. or should i just rebuild each with their own parts. thanks
Which auto is in the rodeo? Whats available local to you? I prefer vvti or 3uz where I can as I like newer with more power and torque but there are other factors to consider
Do these engines all have the same bolt hole pattern on the back end? I've heard a 1UZ-FE will bolt right up to the transfer case on my '91 Mitsubishi Montero (Pajero) without modification. It would be nice if other's did also.
The bell flange of all 1uz and 3uz is the same. Some Mitsubishi use a Asian transmission so with the correct mix and match things can be made to work. Cheers

Does the 1UZ non-vvti, 1UZ vvti and 3UZ has interchangeable transmissions? Also engine mounts? I have Nissan S13 swapped 1UZ non-vvti with transmission adapter kit, wish to upgrade it to 3UZ.
Im thinking we are talking different languages here. For me a transmission is an automatic transmission which they are different however the bellflange on the back of the engine are all the same. This means the different transmission can be swapped. Im thinking with your adaptor comment you are running a manual gearbox so all are interchangeable. Some with mounts, there are differences however they have the same holes which cam be used on the block. Hopefully this helps.
Thank you for quick answer. Yes, I mean transmission mounting points on engine block also mounting points for engine mounts. I want to swap my 1UZ to 3UZ and keep my existing transmission, clutch and engine mounts. How about wiring? Is it there a lot of differences? I have programmable ECU.
Yep. I was picking up what you were putting down. No issues with mounts and gearbox bolting to engine. Wiring is completely different. Very different setup and drive by wire throttle.
i wouldnt reccomend a 3uz swap mate. much much weaker engines if your looking to take any more power or if you plan to boost it. Thin cylinder walls and thin rods on a 3uz compared to a 1uz with thick walls and forged rods

I just imported a Celsior to the UK and it's overheating (head gasket ok) so I bought a coolant cap off Lexus and it doesn't fit. Totally different design. I wont spam your channel with questions, but generally would you say I'm better off getting parts straight from Japan? That generally the parts arn't interchangeable between the Celsior & Ls400 of the same year?. I don't mind going down the parts canon route, but I suppose I'm better off if the canon balls actually fit the canon. Thanks for the videos - especially that one about the interference vs non interference versions of the 1UZ. Been waiting years for someone to clear that up. 👍

Hello. The non vvti had two different power ratings at around 255hp for the gen 1 and then around 260hp for the gen 2. The VVti came out around starting at around 290hp , then 300hp and later according to some listings as 310hp. Effective power at the wheel is far less to to the losses through the transmission. It is possibleto interchange all non vvti injectors, it should make a difference to power on stock ecu and engine. Generally they lose considerable amounts up top due to being way too rich and give poor performance down low. Cheers Kelvin.

THEN PRESENTLY MOUNTED
Personally I see making a custom oil pan far more work than changing a starter. Changing the starter is an easy job, I've been considering doing a video of me changing it blind folded.
Thanks bro for finding time to put such an informative video. I wish to find out on gen 1 and gen 2. I understand Gen 2 has skinny rods. How about pistons? Are they identical between gen 1 and gen 2?
The gen 2 received an increase in compression with a revised piston design.
Good video with plenty of info.I have a question for you, Calvin : both 1uz series 1 and 2 pre-vvti are non interference engines ?
No. Gen 1 non interferance, gen 2 are interferance. Cheers.
3uz gang but when it goes 1uz swappa
What if my coil lead is straight up like first gen but everything else is like second gen? Thanks in advance
Hello
What's best to put in Audi Q7.. I have 1uz and 2uz, whichever is better, stronger, less complex and less fuel-efficient.
Please reply to me
There are many different versions of both 1uz and 2uz. Personally I might be using a 3uz for this job. They are simple , reasonably new and plenty around. Programable ecu is also a bonus.
very helpful thanks a lot!
Thanks for the compliment. Glad I could be helpful. Cheers
Good day Kelvin. i have a 1uzfe vvti with a noisy right bank cylinder head. and then i have a 3uzfe with a bearing knock. can i use the 1uz crank in the 3uz or can i just put the 3uz cylinder heads on the 1uz. will this swaps be compatible. or should i just rebuild each with their own parts.
thanks
Hi I'm from South Africa and looking for coilpacks for the Lexus V8 VVT-i 1Uz
Ok. Best try to find some closee to you.
do you sell bolt on parts to make 1uz vvti faster
For engine swaps I have a few bits but the biggest thing I do is an aftermarket ECU. Cheers Kelvin
Which one would you suggest for a 2001 isuzu rodeo 4x4 automatic.but Cheers
Which auto is in the rodeo? Whats available local to you? I prefer vvti or 3uz where I can as I like newer with more power and torque but there are other factors to consider
@@CartuneNZ a 700r4 transmission
I'd be considering a 3uz.
Does the vvti engine has secondary air injection ports?
I think you are meaning extra air for the Converters. I have never seen any with Secondard air like the cali spec non vvti engines. Cheers Kelvin
Can you use the gen 1 thick rods in the 1uz vvti?
Absolutely I can.
Have you ever had any issues with the shifter shaking ? Mine just started what could it be
Yes, when the engine runs poorly the shifter shakes. Cheers Kelvin
Did they change the billet alloy fuel rail to the cast aluminum for cost reasons or is there some other reason behind the switch
Hello Calvin. Not sure why the change however it does make identifying the engines a bit easier and they continue the cast rails into the vvti.
Cheers
@@CartuneNZ
Thanks for the reply! Now if I could find a 1UZ or 3UZ that didnt require moving engine mounts on my old Gen 1 Montero/Pajero I would be happy.
Appreciate your work. Don’t stop.
Can you do a video on supercharging some of these beauties , since your a wizard on v8s I’m curious on slapping one on my gen 2 non vvti 1uz 96 crown , any tips and tricks from the man himself ?
I have a few supercharger repair videos with more coming. Videos are dictated by booked work and no supercharger jobs booked in next 6 months. Cheers Kelvin
Rookie wrench turner here!I'm looking to swap the 1uz into a 1990 4 runner I picked up. I've heard the 2000 Lexus was the best, which would you recommended?
Depends on what you can get. I use at least a gen 2 and I do like the 1uz VVti. I also really like the 3uz as well. Cheers Kelvin
I have a 1985 celica gts, what 1uz will work? Thinking of getting one from a ls400 in my local junkyard
Yes. There are plenty of mk2 with uz around.
Can you tell what gen of 1UZ it is by the numbers on the block?
No - I do it visually.
Hi i have a 92 Lexus sc400 when the car worms up a yellow oil sensor shows up in the dashboard and the red oil cames on only when i hit the gas but when I stop it goes away also when I start my car white smoke comes out a lot for some time then it goes away is my oil pump bad
Have you checked the oil level? Checked oil pressure? Done an oil change and oil consumption test?
I have a 1989 ls 400 with the one part engine cover and a 1992 sc 400 with the multi part engine cover. Maybe that's what you said but I thought you stated the opposite
All gen 1 came out of the factory with multi part covers and gen 2 have single covers. Ive seen a number now where owners have mixed things up
Can u tell me which one is better
1uzfe vvti or non vvti?
& which transmission gear should be used to make them manual?
Thankx
Better is a subjective term, personally I prefer the vvti but depends on the job I am doing. Also gearbox selection will depend on what is available in your country. Cheers Kelvin

Hey Kelvin me again, I have just purchased a 1994 Toyota Celsior with a UCF21 non vvti 2nd gen 1UZ-FE engine and was wondering which 1UZ-FE engine had the strongest internals. Cheers hoping I bought the right engine 🤞
Not that one. Gen 1 have stronger internals.
CartuneNZ would I be able to swap some bits out of the gen 2 for sum gen 1 bits
Does anyone know what model and year my engine might have come out of? The fuel pump on my Gen 1 Series 2 (unkown origin) has the fuel regulator on the left rear of the engine (not right rear as shown). I am in Thailand. Thanks.
I thought only the 3uz in USA is the only one with VVTi, correct?
I'm pretty sure you will find the 97 onwards GS400 and LS400 got the 1uz VVTI engines into the USA. Cheers Kelvin
what will be the best uz engine most compatible to swap in to my FJ crusier 6 speed manual
3uz would be my pick. Cheers Kelvin
So you say the early crown 1uzfe has a different ball houseing but is the Toyota transmissions the same as the early celsior ls400 and sorea ?
And bolt Patten the same looking at buying Toyota crown majesta 1991 and just wondering if the occasion ever arises the transmission will be easy to swop out
The 131 crown transmission is a bit of an orphan. Quite different from celsior , ls400 and soarer. From 141 crown they interchange fine. I have the 131 transmission as a topic on my list as I was given a bellhousing the other day.
@@CartuneNZ yip it's the 141 so it is the same from the other cars with the same uz that fits with out to much trouble

yes , a few different models around the world do get different parts fitted. Cheers Kelvin
Can you make a video explaining the differences in 3uz-fe (jdm vs. Usdm)? We ran into some issues we weren't expecting. And would the 2002 ecu work for a 2001? (Smart key vs non smart key)
Ive started comparing different looms. The 3uz is coming soon. Where you doing an engine swap in factory car?
Also can I put a gen2 motor in a ls400 that came with a gen1 motor?
Well I can so with the correct knowledge, skill and attitude any of the non vvti can be interchanged if done correctly. Cheers Kelvin
What major changes would it take to put a series 1 1uz in place of a series 2 1uz both nonvvti. I want a thick rod motor in my ls400 and I cant find and exact information I'm gonna change from a 5 speed manual to a 6 speed manual and I would like to build up a good motor while I'm getting into it
Just swap the long block and its all going to work fine. To me this is a straightforward motor swap however I will do a video on the topic as I get asked lots. Cheers Kelvin
@@CartuneNZ thanks for the response and I wait for the upcoming video
In comparison which engine is strong between the 3UZ vvti and a GXL V8 turbo diesel for the 79 series
Hello Melvin. Both are quite strong. The 1vd diesel when it blows up is incredibly expensive over here. They are very different platforms and don't really compare well against each other. Cheers
@@CartuneNZ alright. Thanks. Will still chat for more advice. From Africa, Namibia.

Best UZ motor for twin turbo build for 500hp?
1uz vvti with new rods and pistons or 3uz with new rods and pistons. On budget early engine with head gaskets , rings and bearings. Its going to depend on budget and your goals. Cheers Kelvin

Can I be able to tell the difference by listening to th engine sound
Is there any engine conversions out there for a sr5 2012, d4d.

Thanks
I only work on V8 petrols. Cheers Kelvin
How do I know if I have the FV2400?
It will most likely be in a plane.
what version of the 1uz would you recommend for building a NA road racing engine?
Vvti would be my choice
Where does the 2Uz fit in?
2uz is 4.7 cast iron block with 2 bolt mains. Not so common here in nz so we dont see them much
There’s 2 version of the 3uz?
Yes there is, with variables within both early and late 3uz.

@@LeonB54 I know that, I'll go with stock engine.
Can I get vvti with cable throttle?

Hey cartune!! I love your channel. I got a quick question. Are the gen 2 1uz non vvt engines interference?
Hello. Thanks for the compliment. Yes Gen 2 non vvti engines are interference. Cheers Kelvin
Hi, wish I'd found this channel sooner instead of watching all the 'bro look at my Celsior videos' elsewhere where they imported them into the USA and didn't mention the parts arn't interchangeable with the LS versions.
Can you swap 3uz headers onto a 1uzfe vvti, they look less restrictive
Im doing a video of exhaust manifolds soon. The bolt pattern on the head is all the same. I'm not sure what 3uz headers you are talking about as they are normally aren't great looking. Cheers.
@@CartuneNZ thanks, it just looked like the exhaust manifolds that were on the 3uz in the video looked more like black shorty headers than the iron manifolds on the 1uzfe vvti. It looks like it would be a hard swap tho there's no much room
The 3uz on this video doesnt have stock manifolds instead it has a set of my own short headers on it. I try to fit them to as many of my jobs as possible and they work really well compared to stock manifolds on any of the engines. Cheers

Hey kelvin, got a question with ecu. Are they interchangeable? I have a 89661-24390 and my mate has a 89661-50380. Can they be swapped around?
Hello. I did a video on interchanging ecus. Not sure I mentioned the 24390. I think that is the same ecu from the soarer on the dyno videos. It was a gen 1 engine with an alloy body. The 50380 is the later gen 2 engine with the plastic afm. As such while they may plug in they dont interchange. Also one has 4 injector drives and the later one has 8. Cheers Kelvin.
CartuneNZ cheers for that! I have a question about the 24390 16pin 3 is spouse to be cel light (what I’ve been told) and it’s not working would that mean my ecu is stuff or wiring is bad?
Hello. Could I just say yes. Could be stuffed ecu or bad wiring. Would require diagnosis. Is it a conversion or factory vehicle? Does it run? Any other symptoms?
CartuneNZ yeh conversion. Cranks over just won’t fire and thought I may as well wire up the engine light to try pull fault codes. I sent an email about aftermarket ecu to you maybe I might have to do that sooner then I thought
Ok. Ive got about 50 emails to sort over weekend and you are at the top of the list. Spent all day today doing office work trying to catch up. Chances are if it won't go and has no check light it isn't wired up correctly. That's why I also do wiring instructions. Wiring up a check light is a great idea when doing a conversion. Ive also got heaps of aftermarket ECU videos edited ready to begin releasing. Ill try to get the long one up and flick you a link. Cheers
Don't the newest 1uz have more HP than the older ones? The newer one has 310 (290 to wheels) and the older ones have 300 (270 to wheels)
Hello. The non vvti had two different power ratings at around 255hp for the gen 1 and then around 260hp for the gen 2. The VVti came out around starting at around 290hp , then 300hp and later according to some listings as 310hp. Effective power at the wheel is far less to to the losses through the transmission. Cheers
Can I put a 250cc injector in my lexus ls400 that came with the 215cc injectors and will it make a difference in power? I have the first gen motor.
It is possibleto interchange all non vvti injectors, it should make a difference to power on stock ecu and engine. Generally they lose considerable amounts up top due to being way too rich and give poor performance down low. Cheers Kelvin.
I got a 2uzfe
