- It’s time for an old school, naturally-aspirated drag race! We’ve got Mat sat in the B8 Audi RS4, and he’s lining up alongside a W204 AMG C63 and a BMW M3 E90! While the RS4’s packing a 4.2-litre V8 that’ll produce 450hp, the C63 rolls up with a 6.2-litre V8 that’ll produce 460hp! As for the M3, under the bonnet, you’ll find a 4-litre V8 with 420hp! So, all relatively similar, apart from the heavier RS4 is the only one with four-wheel drive! Will it make all the difference? IT’S TIME TO FIND OUT!

@Lil kush it truly is... Just a generic 4.0 twin turbo V8 with only 510HP (in the C class). There are way better twin turbo V8s out there, just look at what Ferrari and Mclaren is doing.
That NA V8 engine was and still is one of the best German Engines out there.

Unfortunately they won’t go up in value because of the C63 Black Series. That will be the one that will be a classic (too bad it’s already expensive). Also the engine is placed in most Mercedes’ models so the rarest models will creep up in value like the R63. The W204 is a dime a dozen

@@ly_775 I live on the UK where it rains all the time and live in the country, on a wet muddy road the C63 would be dull because you would end up in a wall or field if you drove it with any gusto. In a warm state in N America on a wide highway it’s probably more likely you can use the power, but not where I live.
They don't make them like they used to,that old C63 V8 6.2L was a real beast,just sounds awesome.

Yes, agree. My dad has an e90 M3 and I drive it pretty often (yes my profile picture makes me look about 14, but I’m actually 17) and I love the sound, but the W204 is just out of this world. Even though I’m a BMW and Porsche lover by heart, I still love the W204. To bad they are putting a shitty 4 cylinder in the next generation C63.

You should hear the new m performance exhausts... they are mean, when coupled with a ppk tune! Even a lowly M340i is legit... but still, those AMG's with their V8's sound incredible!

Those are only the modern V8s. There are also the modern V10s and V12s. Just imagine how that 6.5l V12 Cosworth engine from the AM Valkyrie will sound at 11k rpm.

@@erwaldox I am a really big fan of the BMW M3 E9X but yes I have to agree with you about the weakness of the engine lol. Even tho the engine makes around 414 HP the torque is only 295. Even some smaller engines have more torque than that lol. It's most likely due to the engine having the same shape as the S85 (E60 M5) Engine which has 507 hp but 383 ft lb torque lol.

The C63 is truly amazing but only from afar. I would never buy the Mercedes with my own money. This car is in the same camp as the M5 v10 of old. This is the most unreliable engine Mercedes AMG has ever made and it would be death to your wallet if you ever bought one

just bought a c63 amg 2 weeks ago replacement for my motorbike its mental love it every time i fire that v8 up my wife says even in (granny mode)c mode its crazy great engine
I absolutely love my W204. I wanted one for over ten years since watching Top Gear when I was 18. Mine is an immaculate facelift with 39k miles and it was £21k! A hand built V8 for £21k. I’m totally spoilt now for future cars. Short of spending £100+k I can’t think of a more special engine, even then it is a push.

@@wasskhan3008 Naturally aspirated engines may be worse at the NEDC, but in reality, a bigger engine doesn't mean worse fuel economy. I had a 2004 Nissan 350z and when i drove it carefully i was at 6.9l/100km, now i have a 2019 C43 with 3l Biturbo V6 and the lowest i could achieve was 7.5l/100km
So even with the smaller engine and 15years between production, it needs more fuel.
These old V8s will go down in history as the best sounding cars of all time. Compared to today’s OPF systems and soft rev limiters 🤦🏻♂️

Bogdan Sokaciu the c63 engine is a de-tuned version of the E63 so a simple map takes it to well over 500bhp. They couldn’t have the smaller and cheaper C class being quicker than the E class.
Seabelo Magoro I have a GLC43 AMG suv. I have always been curious to drag race the 6.3 C63 and wow how luck I was to see one approaching from behind. He passed me and no car up front until we stopped at a red light. I switched to sport plus and off traction with A/C off. Light turn green and he was a full car ahead (probably used launch control) and behold I floored it and his car screams braaahhhhh. At 45 mph I caught up and passed him. I was pulling ahead a car and half ahead where I shut down at 70 mph in a 45 mph speed zone. He was right behind and I am sure he must have been thinking how in the world did I beat him with his higher power and torque.
I was thinking of getting the C63 but I have changed my mind. The V6 biturbo pulls really hard. He was off quickly due to his launch control and I experienced little bit of turbo lag. Once I get moving, I was pinned down to my seat. I think the 9gtronic transmission help me beat him also.

well when he’s in a tesla he makes it so that whoever reaches 130 first, but if he’s in any other car he makes them go all the way uptil 160 and above so that he can catch up
I love my W204 coupe, debating a secondary decat and in the future a supercharger. It's mad as hell in the wet but i still rinsed a newer rs4 (on a track of course 😅)

@mattwatson, next time you guys use the e9x M3, engage launch control by:
make sure power button is on
disengage traction control
adjust shift aggression to the newly available 'sixth' setting
hold gear knob up
mash accelerator
let go of gear knob
first up shift will be done automatically and the rest is on you 🙂

You dream of it until someone asks about your Honda Accord at a stoplight. The coupe styling had much to be desired, though the engine is magnificent :) This actually happened to me with my W204 C63 development pack.

Those engines are things of beauty. It’s saddening to think there will never be a large capacity tuned V8 produced again due to emissions.
The V8 in the E90 M3 is really not that large in capacity. But it's N/A and high revving, it's absolutely certain we will never see anything like that again.
You are right, but I bet we are going to miss the current generation of turbocharged engines very soon. Especially as EU noise and pollutant regulations are hitting hard leading to Mercedes building a 4 cylinder hybrid C63 AMG. Sad thing really.

The brakes were the Achilles' heel of that generation of M cars. Swap them out for bigger discs and bigger callipers then it'll be sublime.

I have driven both on a Road Course, the BMW is the better car then the Mercedes and definitely the faster one.
Drag Racing is not what any of those cars we’re really made for.
Put them on a Road course and let Christ Harris drive them back to back. Same tire brand and model to make it even more fair.

I had a C32 AMG when they first came out.
It was a baby Brother of the E55 AMG at the time with the Supercharged V6 355hp.

It's one of the best AMGs ever created in my opinion~ From the engine to the performance to the looks, Mercedes made a great car with this older C63. There will never be anything else like it. The engine itself is reason alone to buy it, since that 6.2-L engine sounds so aggressive~
I still have to pinch myself I got my W204 for £21k, FMBSH, 38k mikes. Insane value for a car I’ve done 18k miles in three years, used as a daily and a family car and it has a hand built V8 reliably. Very comfortable car and surprisingly tactile but the engine dominates the experience, it is special, very special!

The old C63 is just a legend, by far more attractive than most cars in his league! I mean the look of it, the sound, the performance and just the naturally aspirated 6.2 litre V8! Just a masterpiece of Mercedes which is affordable.
