I was watching this the night this incredible, immensely talented man won. He should have received so many more, because he NEVER did a bad job in his roles...he was mesmerizing to watch, and not an unattractive man. I still find it hard to believe he's gone.

I am a huge movie fan, film fan, watching all the good stuff, all the classics and so on... No actor has ever touched me more than Rutger Hauer. I loved this guy. My favourite movie with him is The Legend of the Holy Drinker. Acting cant get any better than that. God bless is soul

Great actor and such a great underrated role he won for.
Rutger Hauer is one of my favourite actor of all times, I was sad when he died (I personally think prematurely), and I think that he has been greatly underestimated by hollywood and a certain cinema that "counts", he has made beautiful films and beautiful parts but I think he could have done much more if he had had the chance.
Ahhh Tom Selleck, Cybil Shepard, Rutger Hauer....those were the days! RIP Mr. Hauer. You will be greatly missed...but NEVER forgotten.

It's outrageous how Rutger Hauer was only nominated for two awards in all of his american career, and the lesser important ones such this "Globes"... Where were Oscar or Sag nominations for at least "Blade Runner", "The Hitcher" and "The Legend of the Holy Drinker" ? Hollywood never deserved a talent of the caliber of the great late Rutger Hauer.

No one knows..it's frustrating but I understand Hauer was private.
Probably lung cancer, he smoked like a chimney. He died in Beetsterzwaag , the Netherlands. I live very close to where he lived and several people told me he had lung cancer.
