  • Erik Comas talking about his crash at Spa in 1992 where he believes Senna saved his life by getting out of his car on track and shutting down Comas' engine.
The second part of the interview Comas talks about Ayrton Senna's death two years later.
Found this video in French on youtube and people were asking for english subs so there ya go, I did it. It was just such a touching interview I felt it should be able to be seen by as many people as possible.

      @@joaquindirie1448 Hello sure
Senna was using his helicopter around Agras dos Reis They were a couple of person, male, female, who were siwmming far away from the beach and get dragged far away from the shore
Senna spotted them with his helicopter and pick them onboard
The story has been related by Lionel Froissart in his book : Ayrton Senna : Trajectoire d'un enfant gâté
Which translate in English : Senna, trajectory of a talented/spoiled ( double meaning) kid !
Lionel Froissart was one of the very few journalist friend of Senna He knew him since the karting
He also was the one who introduced Senna to a group of French journalist who went in UK to cover some event, probably Silverstone GP And he dragged them for the FF1600 race who was under rain and promised beer to all if they came.
First lap Senna was 15 sec ahead, so they thought might have a crash behind.
Second lap , 30 sec ahead, definitively red flag has to be deployed.
Senna they understoood nothing happened, just Senna flying under the rain.

Disclaimer before you read: SORRY BUT I HAVE TO TELL SOMEONE, pls read
1stly: Who does not miss Ayrton, he was and still is one of F1s GOATs and will be for ever, and i dont think any f1 fan that knew Senna, or lnew that senna drove in F1 and was simply one of if not THE BEST driver of all time.
And 2ndly: Yeah that definitely was the darkest weekend in Motorsport History (maybe together with Le Mans Death Race in i think 56 or 66 it was a 6 at the end) With the Crash of Barrichello in the chicane in Practice on April 29th, Ratzenberger in Villeneuve in Qualifying on April 30th (one of my former classmates was born then but some years later tho), And the 2 crashes in the first 8 laps of the race on May 1st (my birthday, years later tho), with the crash at the start and Ayrtons Crash… That truly was one of the most horrifying weekends ever, every year on my birthday, i make one minute of silence to remember that tragic weekend. 4 Crashes in 3 Days… 3 of them with deaths… (at the start crash i think a marshall died because he was hit in the head by a flying tyre) yeah very sad weekend overall if you look back at it now

Beautiful, this is simply beautiful, first to arrive and first to intervene, disregarding his own life as other cars were coming and running toward a vehicle that could potentially blow up at any moment. You could see that he was acting of his own free will, pretty much like a natural reflex, he wasn't following a protocol or anything of the sort. Others, it didn't seem to occur to them, helping a fellow driver in trouble that is.

It’s a tragedy that senna crashed like he did otherwise, perhaps we would be watching them together in interviews, hearing from both perspectives what the 2 crashes meant to them and how it might have turned them into very close friends after experiencing the same thing.

Erik Comas did a fantastic interview in showing just NOT only what a LEGENDARY DRIVER SENNA was but also how much regardless of who it was to risk his own life to save that of another driver. It was heart wrenching when Comas said that he felt powerless to be unable to help SENNA. Also what he said is absolutely TRUE and still is an issue to this day as in the death of Indy Car driver Dan Wheldon. The race at Imola should have been canceled due to Ratzenbergers death ON THE TRACK not stick tubes in him and make it look as if he was still alive to avoid the Italian law and have the race cancelled so they flew him out to announce his death at the hospital JUST for the sake of money. Had they done the right thing and told the truth about Rolands death they wouldn't have raced on that tragic day. The bottom line is NOBODY should have been out on the track after Ratzenbergers death that clearly affected every driver out there. The last shots of SENNA in the car before the start says it all as he clearly was pushing himself to race with a heavy heart. However even with Ratzenbergers death, SENNA suffered a mechanical failure at the worst possible time and part of the track and had no chance in hell of avoiding hammering the wall at a high rate of speed. ONLY GOD KNOWS just how much greater SENNA could have been in F1 had the he lived but one thing is for sure, to this day I WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE THAT SENNA WAS THE GREATEST OF THE GREATEST. He was so much more than just a GREAT RACER but as a compassionate human being that was as humble as they come. SENNA WILL ALWAYS BE IN A LEAGUE OF HIS OWN IN MY BOOK. R.I.P. Ayrton, it may be 24 years on but I will NEVER forget that May 1st 1994 is the day that F1 lost the GREATEST DRIVER AND HUMAN BEING THAT F1 HAS EVER KNOWN.

That San Marino Imola GP weekend was just horrendous. I had a really bad feeling about it. First it was Ruben’s crash and then Roland’s untimely dearly. I just kept on thinking that the race should have been can cancelled. Senna did say that God spoke with him and that God was going to give him his greatest gift. I guess it was the opportunity to live with him in heaven in eternal peace. I fell out of love with F1 that day. In my opinion he was the greatest.

Can't believe only found out today that Senna saved someone's life! I don't even remember this from the movie "Senna". You'd think that would be an important detail especially when there were accusations about him being "dangerous driver".

Even if they stopped the race on the Saturday, that Williams car and its cruddy steering column was still a ticking time bomb. Could have happened the next race or the race after.

With the podium celebration and all of this hypocrysy, Ayrton proved the F1 is also a business. He fought since 1989 (suzuka) against the governing and this make a final point to his fight...

    • @mskoentjoro

Comas was mistakenly flagged out of the pits after Senna's accident, so he was not supposed to be anywhere near the accident site, but he was, he even narrowly missed the crews and rescue vehicles. He witnessed them trying to revive Senna, and too distressed to continue, he retired from the race.

@mario7kart7master7 Tamburello isn't a corner with slow approach - like blanchimont, but Eric was right in the middle of the track. Furthermore, it was a race rather than a practice session.
