I started learning guitar during pandemic, composing my own songs with typical chords from Math Rock I would find on the internet, and the more shapes I discovered, the more I felt like my style was slowly becoming bosa nova-ish, but I had no knowledge of this style. So I was wondering what were typical chord progressions in this style, and I watched your video first, and after the first example I was like : hey, I play this progression all the time! I was so pleased to discover new shapes and ways to play them after watching your video. I just recently started learning musical theory, and I still need to figure out why these chords sound like this, but just playing them around is so much fun. Thank you!
I am so grateful that somebody takes care of these progressions and explains them in depth. From a composition side of view, it is fundamental and opening eyes, how chord substitution works. In functional theory these progressions are a must have knowledge base to get creative with some own stuff. Most teachers fail, to help their pupils to create their own music. The bearded guitarist takes care and helps out on this side. Creativity has to start where this lesson ends. Why did Duke Ellington analyze his compositions so much, to create something really new?
Thanks a lot, very useful to me! I think there is a minor flaw in progression 4 at 11:23, the BbMaj7 doesn’t seem to have the right tab, but one still can figure out with your fingers. Best
Such a complicated subject being explained so beautifully and engaging to the end. It is a pleasure learning from this wonderful teacher. Thank you from Miami and keep spreading your musical carisma. AI can never replace you!
Thanks for this inspiring lesson! The first three were doable for me. The fourth is where I got a little stuck, but I'll keep at it. Fantastic and fun!
Great! Thank you so much!! Can you do a video on how to add little licks into the chord progressions? Some inspiration on that would be amazing. Thanks again
Ever since having been introduced to Latin producer Christian Dewalden back in the '90s, through other producers at the time, I remember he was in the middle of production for an album for one of Julio Iglesias boys records, and I remember being in the control room listening to some of the tracks at the time, and was smitten by what I was hearing in the afro-cuban rhythms he had going on and since then... II have been utterly infatuated by it. Bossanova, and merengue… are two of my favorite styles in Latin-inspired time signatures, because of the way you can play off certain chord progressions… but for me, I love weird chords that can be used in jazz but aren't typically associated with jazz-like Aminor9 or E/[over]F# - this is a neat little video that just served as a bit of a reminder about just how much I enjoy the bossanova.
Hi man, great lesson! You made a slight error with the Bb maj 7 chord diagram for the 4th progression (11:12), you put a G7/B. But thanks for going through all the effort to provide the info in the first place though, I can’t believe all this is even free
Amazing content 👍🏻 thank you Just noticed that in the 4th chord progression the chord diagram for the Bb Maj7 is still the one of the G7/B. Maybe that helps if it confused someone else 😀 Anyway thanks again. You're doing an amazing job here. Keep it up
great video, I coud play (slowly) the first 3, and the 4th one is tripping me up! I've spent some time in Brasil so this takes me back :) Question: why is the shape for the Bbmaj7 different than the shape for a Gmaj7?
❤Magnifique leçon, claire, précise, didactique. Je ne te connaissais pas mais tu as maintenant un nouvel Abonné. Cette Musique est tellement Belle. Merci encore depuis la France.
I've never been much of a guitarist, but just picked it up again after not touching it for a few decades I guess... man, my fingers do NOT bend that way! It gives me that much more appreciation for those who can play this stuff so breezily. I may have to see a chiropractor for my left hand! :)
Awesome video! That first chord progression is almost identical to the verse section of "Dreams From Yesterday" by Mac Demarco. I was like oh snap, that sounds familiar! lol
Great video - thank you for making these chords clear to visually see . The active graphic illustration ( gif ) is terrific. This makes it a fast quick way to clearly define what is being played.
HEYHEYHEY, for the first chord progression is there any way I could switch up the chords to make it sound less bland? Because when I play it over and over it gets sorta repetitive, so like I was wondering.. is there a set of chords I can use to keep the song interesting?? Please and a big thank you, your videos are VERY helpful:)
The example in D minor is written wrongly . 9 bars. E and A should be in the same measure . Great vid. Sent it to a firend which is restarting guitar , Hope he uses it .
I don't understand what's going on on 3:51-3:58. Can someone pleease explain it to me? (I'm not a guitar player, but everything that exists on the Internet about music is for guitarists.)
Wait what how do you do that d69 wtf I'm practicing to this vid like 10th time and now I realise that finger one is pressing two strings??? 🤣 and that first finger move to play third chord is impossible
the song is very nice , but the 5 progression is very hard to follow the chord man maybe is only me nut i watch this maybe 20 time to remmeber the chords so i the photo of the order of the chords to remmber easer sorry for bad english

That’s great to hear. Thanks!

that shift from em9 to a13 does something to my heart. it feels like nostalgia but sadder. bittersweet but beautiful. i wish i knew why
you might be feeling saudade
@ the fact there's an actual term for this is incredible. this is exactly how i feel!

really love the intro... showing the content, not someone shouting at us to smash the like button and ring the bell
Ha! Thanks so much
I agree it's honestly like when your parents tell you to do the dishes, you don't want to because they keep annoying you abt it.
Haha 😂
Exactly! As a result, I liked and subscribed right after the intro 😉
That’s awesome. Thank you!

Thanks a lot, very useful to me! I think there is a minor flaw in progression 4 at 11:23, the BbMaj7 doesn’t seem to have the right tab, but one still can figure out with your fingers. Best
I've got to get these chord progressions under my fingers on my guitar immediately! Love the sounds! Let the work begin!
Best of luck!

Hey, this is really helpful! Could you list a couple songs that use the first progression?

Hi man, great lesson! You made a slight error with the Bb maj 7 chord diagram for the 4th progression (11:12), you put a G7/B. But thanks for going through all the effort to provide the info in the first place though, I can’t believe all this is even free
Thank you. All diagrams are correct on Patreon
Could you make a video for bossa on how you would approach a melody, scale options, arpeggios...
thank you so much for your work ! so useful
Thank you!

Thanks!
Amazing content 👍🏻 thank you

cool video, only problem is in chord progression 4 u display wrong voicing for Bbmaj7 (for some reason it's the B/G7 voicing)
hi, what guitar are you using or recommend for this kind of music. its not just a classical guitar right?
If that beard had any more oil on it, there would be P. Diddy knocking on your door. Great video.
lol hell yeah that shit glazed
😂
So groovy
the sadness of Chord Progressions #3 is like no other, man.
