      Hi Dr. Tracy☀️so I was just curious what your thoughts would be on the topic of self-blame. Wednesday doesn't quite express regret often though we see glimpses of it and I couldn't help but wonder how responsible she may have felt after seeing the Tyler vision and then knowing she accused Kinbott AND got Xavier locked up... I was wondering when to draw the line between healthy accountability and unnecessary self blame that becomes unfair to oneself, I personally struggle with this. Thanks as always !!

    I laughed out loud when she said Tyler was a gentle soul, and so nice. Wednesday showing these range of emotions this episode, when she saw Uncle Fester and when Thing was wounded, seeing her change throughout the season has been a highlight of the show. Yeah, Tyler's betrayal is sad. No matter who you like in the show, Wednesday was starting to trust him.

    Your reaction to Wednesday and Tyler kissing was sweet and heartbreaking, knowing what we know now.
    Wednesday and Enid are so opposite yet they accept each other for who they are, flaws and all.
    Wednesday said it, that she’s evolving. Her personality and traits are the same yet she’s growing and putting down her barriers. As teens, we all said we’d never yet we evolve.

      I'd be interested in how therapists keep themselves safe. Some clients may be quite disturbed and potentially dangerous. How do they help such clients while keeping themselves safe. How do we as a society deal with those who might be a danger to others as a result of their upbringing or traumatic past?

    • @kitkait98
      @kitkait98 2 роки тому +8

      @@L-K-K Good question! Therapists are trained on how to keep themselves safe. They are often already aware of which clients are likely to exhibit violent behaviors and the relationship helps them learn what warning signs to look for. Preventative steps can include removing possibly dangerous objects (scissors, objects that can be thrown, etc), ensuring the client cannot block the door easily, or having another staff member listen for possible violence. If the client threatens the therapist (and can follow through on the threat) then the therapist is allowed to break confidentially and take appropriate steps to keep themself safe (e.g. tell the police).

    Even though she obviously cares about her family (and Enid) in her own way, we can see the special place in her heart for both Uncle Fester and thing. From the genuine toothy smile upon seeing her uncle (there was another one as he described his exploits as well), to the second time she has ever cried when she thought Thing had joined Nero.

    *When Wednesday seeks revenge for Pugsly, stands up to the Pilgrim guys for Eugene, tells Enid, just before her date with Ajax, "If he breaks your heart I'll nail gun his.", etc, it kinda reminds of a "Mafia" mentality, which, in addition to being very transactional, as Dr. Courtney points out, once she has accepted them into her "bubble", she'll act like, "You are now under the protection of Wednesday (and Thing) Addams..."*

    When Wednesday told Thing "I don't miss her. Friends are a a liability and can be exploited. We know this because she was straddling Enid's half of the room after Enid left.

    Well, I am a bit disappointed that scene between Wednesday and Enid was not analysed to the end. When Enid says "That's just who I am", Wednesday looks at her for a while and then slowly, almost reluctantly nods with acceptance. It is a big step for Wednesday. She begins to accept Enid as a human being. After a while she also says "The Thing really missed you", which, in translation, means "I really missed you"! (Wednesday would not be Wednesday to admit it loud). It is such a great moment and I would love to hear it analysed).

    I knew Tyler was the Monster from the first episode just because I felt like it would be logical for it to be someone outside the school. And because of Wednesday's interest in him I became sure of it. It is Wednesday, a girl who likes digging graves, do autopsies, who tried to kill her classmates even those who didn't bully her brother just were unlucky to be in the pool. Of course she would be interested in a guy with a serious dark side. She even said that Xavier became interesting after she found out about his connection to the Monster. That's just who she is.

    Having a therapist tell me I'm "too much" as she cancelled our appointment last-minute, over the phone, I understand what you meant with how wrong it was of Kinbott to tell Wednesday she needs more help than she can give her.
    If it wasn't for social workers supporting me, I don't think I would've had the courage to find a new therapist.
    Now, I have a therapist who took 4 appointments to get to know me, before making any decisions, and even when being brutally honest, she never made me feel like I wasn't worth her time.
    It's extremely validating to hear someone say "I won't give up on you" when you've felt like the entire world has.
    Also scary, because those 4 weeks felt like a probation period, but mostly validating.
    As for what more can be told in the next episode: there's actually a lot that hasn't been resolved yet.
    Can't wait to see your reaction to the season finale!

    Loving your look on Wednesday! I’m not sure if you take show recommendations, but if you do, I’d love to see you discuss Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House! It follows a broken family and delves into grief, addiction, childhood trauma, and more. Each of the siblings is meant to represent one of the 5 stages of grief. It’s one of my favourite shows of all time and I personally think it has brutally honest depictions of depression and addiction, but I’m interested in hearing a professional opinion on it! There are some scenes in clinical settings (rehab center, therapist’s office) as well. On a completely different note, I also have to recommend The Perks of Being a Wallflower, another one of my favourites with another great portrayal of mental illness (in my opinion)

    It begs the question of long term effects on Wednesday. The last traumatic event in her life was Nero dying and that made her vow to never cry again. Now here she opened herself up to someone, trusted them enough to let them through her barriers and dare I say it she was genuinely happy, then BAM, hes a homicidal monster. What I love about this episode, is how Enid accepts herself and how emotional is Wednesday, though she doesn't show it. Bit the subtle 'things said he missed you', I think it was Wednesday way of saying to Enid 'Welcome back', though she will not say it words for words.
    But Enid is honest as is Wednesday and they do complement well.

    But then after Wednesday says that she have done a lot more horrible things, Tyler immidiatly says "I knew there was a reason I liked you".
    Like dude, you just said that you regret your past actions, but the minute Wednesday says that she doesn't care, Tyler is all over that. 🤷‍♀️
    Plus, when he realized that Wednesday asked Xavier on a dance, he was frustrated because he wasn't in control, and was failing a task by his Master to get close with Wednesday. So he tried to manipulate Wednesday by saying she send him signals when in reality she never did.

    I just love the relationship between Enid and Wednesday. There's one moment in the scene where they make up that to me explains why their friendship works. It's when Wednesday says "Thing said he missed you.", and Enid sort of sighs, looks straight at her and answers "I missed him too.". Because not only does Enid KNOW that Wednesday means SHE missed her, but she also knows not to push Wednesday or call her out on using Thing as a proxy for her own emotions (And she's right, because Wednesday would close up SO hard if she did), but just take it as a win and reply on the same level.
    I also think that that's why they like eachother. Wednesday genuinely doesn't enjoy Enid's mannerism and style, but she doesn't judge her on that because she sees beyond it and respect her for what's behind all that fluff: the value of unapologetically being yourself despite what other people (especially moms) think. Because THAT is what they share in common. And Enid likes Wednesday because she senses and reciprocates that respect. She doesn't like Wednesday's dark stuff either, but she does feel seen by her. And that's what she ultimately craves most.
    And apart from that. Enid has a positivity and a way with people that Wednesday lacks herself, but profits from. And Wednesday has strategic insight and a fearlessness that Enid lacks herself, but profits from. So together they could do pretty much everything, as proven by them winning that boat race by working together. It's a really fun and touching dynamic, and I sincerely hope the producers dare to let it be in the next season(s). Because serial television as a media genre has a tendency to let its fear of viewers getting bored without constant change mess up the relationship dynamics that work. Either by trapping them in arrested developement, or changing them until they lose what made them tick in the first place.

      @the.truth.doctor I haven't watched episode 8 yet (so perhaps you've done sth already), and I am in the midst of 7. But perhaps you can add an extra video with a general overview, things you missed, what you liked or disliked, and hope to see in S2? It is too bad I don't have the €€ for an HBO subscription to watch The Last of Us, or I would certainly turn to your channel again (I'm still epically sad Mindhunter was cancelled after 1 glorious season. That would've been great to do too).
      I absolutely love watching these videos, your genuine responses to what's happening in the episodes and the way you give us your analysis- so empathetic and knowledgeable. I wish I'd had therapists like you, I probably would have felt I could truly open up. My experiences only made me feel worse. I initially went to them forced as part of revalidation programmes because of my chronic illnesses - thus couldn't even choose a psychologist with whom I vibed. It wasn't until I had a severe reactive depression to losing my complete health, home, work, income, brother, partner and 98% of my social circle all in the span of 1.5yrs, as a result of getting suddenly too ill, that I chose to go voluntarily. By then I was suicidal, but upon opening up in a last resort of clinging to life a lot of people around me either dismissed my feelings or blamed *me* for "letting it get this far". Despite my horrible experiences with therapy I eventually went to my family doctor and asked her for help. I obviously didn't have any confidants in my social circle or family....She sent me to a psychiatrist instead - in case medication was needed, but also because she thought I would vibe more with someone more educated (her words, not mine). Maybe because she knew I usually wore a "happy, all is okay" mask because my environment would chop me to pieces otherwise, and feared someone else couldn't get through. No matter the reason, that therapist really helped me. Most importantly to see my own worth again, even though I went from "Independent woman with a high position and above average income with her own home, in a steady 10yr long relationship and loads of friends" to "Dependent woman below the poverty line, with no one to turn to, running the risk of ending up on the streets despite not being able to walk and in pain 24/7". The irony is that my life only got worse the years after if you take just my health and isolation into account (I might have found trust in mental health professionals, but my trust in the rest of the medical field is at an all time low - so many serious mistakes! ). But his therapy opened me up to the fighter that I've always been inside, but that was simply beat down as a result of circumstances in my youth, teens and then. Because of him I not only found the strength to deal with a specific trauma with another specialised therapist later on, but I fought for my needs. I cut ties with certain people and took up the fight against the government as well. As a result I (it took 10 years! ) am on full benefits now. Among the lower income groups, but no longer truly poor. And I have found a small home close to a drugstore, pharmacy and supermarket so I can get there in my wheelchair. My biggest hope is that I'll be able to do some volunteering work some day, maybe even start a simple blog, to help those in a similar position (I honestly think those who have or had mental or physical health issues themselves are quite often the far better coach or therapist. I was asked as a consultant, but the damage to my body & brain turned out to be so extensive I couldn't do the training or work hours).
      I will never ever speak disparaging about therapy or therapists again, knowing what I know now, but with the caveat that it is absolutely essential to find the right one for you. I've had several Kinbotts before I found my Truth Doctors ;).
      Hope to see you again in the future with a show I can follow/ like. PS. That husband of yours is a keeper ;).
      Love from The Netherlands.

    I've always very much loved people like Wednesday and Morticia - and I didn't understand why until I dated an autistic girl who identified as aromantic asexual (also, this was my 1st relationship with a girl after I came out). It was new for the both of us and we were slow and careful about it in order for us to test the boundaries with what she was careful with (what with me being a highly emotional romantic), and at the end of the day, this was the most rewarding and safe relationship with a person I had ever had. In the end we parted ways, but to this day those boundaries that I learned are now so important to me when I meet new people. And I love seeing those relationships that Wednesday has with Enid and Eugene and Uncle Fester, because it just shows that is can create a safe space for both the people in that type of relationship

    • @kpaxian6044
      @kpaxian6044 2 роки тому +1

      I am autistic and aroace but I was wondering...was she aroace or demiromantic? The reason I ask is that I cannot imagine wanting to date anyone per se...simply because definitionally most people...even those who are dating and asexual - still expect a romantic connection.
      Did you find it was more a queerplatonic relationship for your girlfriend?
      Take care :)

    • @AISippel1995
      @AISippel1995 2 роки тому

      @kpaxian Hi there! So yeah, we definitely discussed this quite often because I never wanted to project any romantic notions onto her and have her feel forced to return it because of years of masking, but she definitely identified more aroace than demiromantic. She would often be aesthetically attracted to all people, but the minute she communicates with someone she was very easily turned off. It was easy to cut off a relationship with someone who didn't click with her, because having to put in more effort than necessary was very draining, and then she needs time alone to decompress. But she was also very curious about things with regards to relationships, but just never clicked with anyone enough to feel comfortable going any further.
      As for the queerplatonic relationship: in the first year, this was how I imagined she saw it. Like it was very platonic looking in public, and then some affection when we're alone - she had boundaries in place about touching her hands and neck area (made her feel a lot of discomfort). But then later, she asked for more displays of affection, even sometimes around other people, but I always still asked permission in case she felt a little overwhelmed on the day.
      This very much developed from a friendship, so perhaps that shift to companionship was a little easier, and there was never any pressure of sex or pda for me to want to have a connection with her. But she still maintains that she doesn't really have any interest in being romantically involved with anyone.
      I hope this answered your question!😅

    If you think back to the first episode, Wednesday gets a vision that someone is killing Rowan when she touches Taylor, after rewatching it there was alot of more clues that it was Tyler. Also I loved the part talking about different ways of showing love. It made me think that there are different ways of showing everything. I’ve noticed that the way I acknowledge people is not “normal”. When most people would wave in passing, I just give a small smile. Sometimes when someone says something that I don’t have any input on I make a small noise to acknowledge they said something. Basically when I acknowledge things, it’s easy to miss and I’ve recently worried that people don’t realize I acknowledged them and think im rude. Im going to start talking to people about it so that they are aware of how my brain works and that im not ignoring them, they just didn’t notice what I did. (I’ll also work on the small noise thing)

    Something that changed me a little for the worse… during covid, early 2021, a friend and I broke up. It was sudden and I woke up to his text. Since, it’s made me pull away from my relationships and reaching out. I think this was because of my trust issues to begin with, how MUCH I trusted and entrusted information about myself and my feelings to this person over 4 years, the sudden ending of it all (kinda close to my birthday btw), and the pain I was left with. Before this, emotional honesty and closeness was a struggle. And like Wednesday, I was taught something similar to “friends are a weakness that can be exploited” (thereby emotional repression.. “don’t share too much or it could be used against you”). So this break up was quite detrimental 😅. He and I had a phone call a year later, he did ask me how I was, but acted as if nothing ever happened and when I brought it up, he didn’t remember. And he spoke for most of it. Luckily though, it did give me some closure.

As funerals are never easy, taking time to reflect on the loved one and our relationship with them, whether good or bad, can give us insight on what we need to work on or carry into the future. In more than one episode of acute agoraphobia I got very, acutely aware of people looking at me or in my general direction when I absolutely had to go out of my house for groceries and it was decidedly unpleasant. It freaked me out. My heart rate accelerated markedly. My breathing was hard and fast.
    At that point I knew what an incipient panic attack felt like / presented as. I was well aware. It had happened before. Did my best to cope / ignore. Breathing techniques, mostly.
    Your point about people who are acutely aware of others regard for them in regards to Uncle Fester as either egocentric or narcissistic (with graphics) struck me as both binary and reductive.
    When I was in the very maladaptive depths of that agoraphobic state if any random stranger looked vaguely in my direction it caused an acute anxiety spike.
    I think I might be conflating layman understanding of the word "egocentric" to your more clinical definition. I do not exhibit egocentric behavior.
    I was so freaked out about going outside my cocoon that getting mail out of the mail box before 2 AM when everybody should be asleep freaked me out so hard that I couldn't do it for weeks. Someone could see me and that was a thing to be avoided.
    The problem with agoraphobia is that eventually you have to go to the grocery store.
