      As an Asian man, I’ve grown up putting soy sauce in freaking everything. It adds depth and the coveted umami flavor. But I can see Italians recoiling at the thought.
      However, they should be far more forgiving to Worcestershire sauce. That stuff is not too far off from the ancient Roman delicacy Garum.

    • @00B.
      @00B. Рік тому +16

      If you listen the main criticism wasn't towards the soy, nor towards the garlic nor the butter but the fact she put cheese on the oyster sauce. It's an unwritten rule of Italian cuisine: no cheese on seafood. Also I think that a good pecorino or parmigiano have a lot of flavor and are somewhat salty already, if you mix them with soy sauce which is also salty you will kill any other flavor.

    • @cody7889
      @cody7889 Рік тому +4

      @@00B. You also haven’t tried it, obviously. There are no rules in cooking. And if that was a “rule” you wouldn’t put cheese on anything with guanciale in it, would you?

      @@cody7889 we invented pasta, we all know how to cook and 99 percent of our meals are homemade.
      We have Centuries of culinary culture. So do not you think we tried ALL the possibile combinations?
      Dont you think if we say that cheese on seafood tastes like s...t we know what we are talking about?

    • @cody7889
      @cody7889 Рік тому +16

      @@tizioincognito5731 The Chinese invented pasta (and tomatoes were brought to Italy in the 1500s from Mexico). Just FYI. I don't really care what "rules" there are. As somebody that cooked professionally for over a decade, I can tell you that "rules" are meant to be broken at times and as somebody that has lived in, studied in, and additionally now spends about half of my year in Italy, I know that every single Italian is going to have a different opinion on what the right way to do something is and it is going to be a strong opinion. So please stop trying to speak for your whole country because it's ignorant.
      Secondly, oyster sauce rarely has oyster in it and it certainly doesn't taste like fish or oysters or seafood. I take it that you probably don't know that because finding Asian food in Italy is actually pretty difficult and finding ingredients (such as the hundreds of different sauces) is even more difficult.
      Please don't patronize me. It's rude. If you are too closed-minded to try something new, that doesn't mean that others are wrong. It just means that you don't feel comfortable going outside of your comfort zone.
      You should try this dish. You'll like it if you let yourself, but my guess is that you'll decide you don't like it before you even try it.

      1 cup (250 ml) ricotta cheese
      2 cup (500 ml) grated mozzarella cheese
      4 basil leaves, shredded
      Directions:
      1. To marinate chicken: In large bowl, whisk together yogurt, lemon juice, tandoori spice blend, fenugreek, salt, pepper and hot pepper flakes until well combined. Add chicken; toss to coat. Cover with plastic wrap; refrigerate 8 to 12 hours.
      2. Preheat oven to 200ºC. Scrape marinated chicken onto rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in centre of oven for about 25 minutes or until cooked through. Remove from oven; let stand 15 minutes. Cut chicken into ¼-inch (5 mm) cubes.
      Butter Chicken Sauce
      1. For butter chicken sauce: In medium pot, heat olive oil and butter over medium-high heat. Add cumin seeds; toast, stirring frequently, for 2 minutes. Add onion, garlic and turmeric; cook, stirring frequently, for about 5 minutes or until onions are softened. Add ginger, tandoori spice blend and hot pepper flakes; cook, stirring, for another 2 minutes. Stir in 1 cup (250 ml) water, tomatoes, cream, fenugreek and sugar. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally. Cook for 20 minutes. Run the sauce through a blender for thick/creamy consistency and return back to pot Add cooked chicken cubes; simmer for another 15 minutes or until sauce is thickened. Set aside.
      Vegetables
      1. Meanwhile, make vegetables: In medium saucepan, heat olive oil and butter over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic; cook, stirring frequently, for about 5 minutes or until onions are softened. Add mushrooms and green peppers; cook, stirring, for 8 to 10 minutes or until vegetables are soft. Add salt, garam masala and pepper; cook for another 2 minutes. Set aside.
      Lasagne
      1. Assemble lasagne: Preheat oven to 400°F (200ºC). Spread one-third of butter chicken sauce over bottom of 13 x 9-inch (3 L) glass baking dish. Arrange 5 noodles over top. Dollop with ricotta; top with Vegetables. Arrange 5 more noodles over top. Spread another one-third sauce all over. Sprinkle with half of mozzarella. Top with remaining noodles. Spread remaining sauce all over. Sprinkle with remaining mozzarella. Cover loosely with foil.
      2. Bake in centre of oven for 45 minutes; remove foil. Sprinkle with basil. Grill for another 2-3 minutes or until bubbling and golden on top. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

      Not a crime, and you can eat whatever you want. The issue is when you post a video as a chef, tossing in random things and claiming it's a traditional Italian dish. I'd make the Asian noodles, tweaking it for my own taste by swapping out the oyster sauce and skipping parmigiano. It's not far off from a noodle dish I make often. I love mushrooms and peas, but wouldn't throw them together with creme fraiche and call it carbonara. Eat whatever you want and get creative, but don't piss on someone's culture. Call it something else.

    I love Marion but I have to agree with Pasta Queen and Pasta Bro. When you cook a garlic till it turns brown it doesn't taste good.

    But please be kind that in other countries they don't use guanciale all the time. In Germany for example, where I come from, it's hard to find. So I often use other high quality bacon, for example from Tyrol.

    I love you, Marion and Steven from Not Another Cooking Show.. They both like to add a spin to it though. Steve for the most part stays very authentic... But I've learned the Pasta Queen method now so I know when its going to upset an Italiano *inserts hand gestures* Gordon on the other hand.... he upsets everyone, even Uncle Roger!! I wouldn't even look at Jaime, he upsets Uncle Roger too...😂😂😂

    I screamed at the videos and I am not Italian (but I cook fresh like one thanks to a beautiful Italian lady from Sicily who taught me how REAL Italian food is made!) Watching all the additions that just don’t need to be in these dishes is sad, they could cook authentic recipes faster in most cases! Literally the hardest part of authentic Italian cooking is finding a source for quality ingredients!
    Edit: I am recommending your cookbook to everyone who says “How did you make that?” I cook a lot by sight and taste so I don’t have recipes to write down. Just quality ingredients, using the pasta water and keeping it simple. Excited to get your cookbook to add more dishes to what I already make. I never learned desserts so I want to learn from the best, if it passes the brother test, I am all for it!

    Всегда думала, что Гордон - настоящий профессионал и учится разным техникам, чтобы создавать свои уникальные блюда. А нет, надо делать, как делают итальянцы.

  • @wildsquirrelswildsquirrel7286

    Glad that I make cacio e pepe the traditional way, have my pecorino, pepper & spaghetti. Added the pasta water to the pecorino to make the cream & go heavyhanded with the pepper 🤭🤗 (love pepper), when the spaghetti is cooked adding in the cream 💞💞💞💕💕💞💖💖 nom nom nom

    My husband questioned his proposal after I said I didn't care for lasagna. "I don't like cottage cheese..." His brain blew up and feed me some real lagsna. I never knew lasagna was supposed to taste like. I live in the south, and good Italian food was hard to find. Had to have a kid before his mom would give me the family recipe. Not a pasta snob, but I'm a sauce snob.

    The first video was probably made by a German. We can’t really get pancetta or guanciale here. You need to have an Italian speciality store close to you.
