How somebody so comparatively young can absorb all these old tunes and also to have such extraordinary ability on the cornet amazes me! She has a classic tone, she knows the tunes inside out and exactly directs all the individual breaks and solos! Fantastic band!
I love all their videos. Talented and unpretentious, just love what they do. And we get a little glimpse into street life too. Sometimes if you watch the background her dog will make friends to another dog, or a couple of lovers will dance into the distance behind the band - and in another a group of friends pose and take selfies all unknowingly filmed. It's like watching a Jacque Tati comedy.
I love the section between 1:35 to 2:00 during Barnabus' solo when Shaye tries to get the rhythm section to play a complicated rhythm, which is the same as on Last Night on the Back Porch from 10/20/2017, at 1:50 to 2:25 in that song. In both tunes, the guys struggle to play what Shaye wants, and everyone has a good laugh. Even great musicians like the guys in Tuba Skinny have to work hard to keep up with Shaye! These tunes recorded on 4/7/2018 are just sublime. In each song, Todd plays a beautiful tuba solo, I find myself whistling the tuba solos throughout the day.
What she's trying to do is to divide the 4-crotchet bars (US: 4 quarter-note measures) into 2 beats, one of 3 quavers and the other 5 (one of 3 eighth-notes and the other 5). It's not difficult when you've got the hang of it, but I think they were surprised by it.
Absolutely wonderful magnificent real talented exquisite musicians and shaye ahh shucks magnificent,, I can imagine these minstrels and dog just playing continues throughout the day + night "magic"
One of the top versions of Savoy Blues save Louis Armstrong and perhaps another one which name escapes me right now due to old age catching up with me!
I ask myself the same question. Whatever the songs, there's always a tiny minority that puts an thumb down. Maybe they don't like this style of jazz, in which case they go their own way. They would be well advised to say why they give a negative opinion. But how can you not like what TS does?
I like how civilized are all the guys here. I'll be honest and keep coming back to this clip attracted by the healthy estrogen looking girl in the skirt (she looks like an ex-girlfriend of mine). I'm a big fan of Django Reinhardt, so i like the style of this music, BUT i only appreciate a good solo, a creative melodic "story". And this clip is a mess of 2-3 average solos mixed together at the same time. All you hear is just the general harmony, but no melodic idea. Too bad..

She also plays piano, violin and a bit of trombone (as far as I've seen); lord knows what else. True misician
The best traditional dixieland band the Wold with the famous Shay. 👍👍❤️❤️🇩🇪🇩🇪🇺🇸🇺🇸❗️❗️
They are sooooo good.

Y'all nail this one every time. Tempo is always the same - perfect. Beautiful!
Love that Tuba!
Nothing skinny bout this Tuba
Todd is the tuba master! 😊
Kid Ory would have loved that rendition of his classic. Played at just the right tempo as well.

Shaye Cohn - beauty with
cornet💃🎺🌹... and dog have fleas🐕🐜be carefyl🤠
Having watched a number of these videos, what a great group of players, however i'm sure the dog has fleas
There may even be a song called, ' My dog has fleas ' if there is, they can play it.
@@williamfulgham2010 It's called "Tuning the banjo"!
@@allencooke6794 Unfortunately, it looks like someone further down this comment board has reported that Tupelo the dog has passed.
Beautiful rendition, but I'm wondering where the bass drum came from at the end. The band looked a little annoyed.
Probably someone who walked by with a drum and decided to join in.
I wish I could do that. Unfortunately, not a hope.
Management conference going on back there.
Are the 3 negatives because the dog behiond the bass is scratching (maybe) fleas?
How could anyone not like this music!!!!!!!!!

why does Shaye always talk while others are soloing

Its alovely evening along with great tunes, oh dont forget the comic relief of the pup.
Love that loyal guard dog.
Who takes care of him?
I think Tupelo's well past the 'pup' stage!
@@otiebrown9999 He was Barnabus Jones's dog the trombone player. He passed away 2-3 years ago I understand. 🐕
Muy buen grupo, ojala estuviera en Chile, mi país
