- Hello! This video shows how to clean headphone jacks, USB plugs, and other items you would plug into your computer, phone, or MP3 player.
I also show a neat product that helps clean dust and dirt from your keyboard, mouse, etc.
Thanks for watching! - Навчання та стиль
This honestly was pretty helpful. Now, I used just canned air and a very tiny flathead screwdriver, BUT this was just an ipod 4, and I have no intention of ever using the warrenty program and such. AND that "crrrud and sludge" was really stuck in there. Still, it worked, and this video set me on the path to that solution (hereby named "the extremely cheap old-fashioned way). SO THANK YOU!!!
Very useful, Thank you!:) Love your explanation...
Nice. Glad you found a cheaper option. At least now you'll be hear things more clearly.
DeOxit 5 is the best. Nothing even comes close. Nice video.
That's good point. Thanks for the idea.
Somehow you just made my day.
Solved it with only Microfiber Cloth and patience.
Thanks a lot xD
Nice!
That's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me...
This could be tricky. Take a flashlight and see if you find anything at the bottom of the jack. You may have to purchase a small set of tweezers that would allow you to pull the debris out.
try to appreciate the help he gives ! ...
Thanks for the info.
Thanks this was useful
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment!
One of the connectors inside the jack may be bent. Can you see anything blocking the jack when you look down the jack? Use a bright light to see if there is anything. You can use any type of non-conducting material (plastic) to bend it back into place.
Thanks that helped a lot :)
Great videos by the way
That's awesome. Glad to help out!
Thanks!
Nice!
You are awesome I will ask people to watch your video and like you :)
Oh wow, thanks!
Thanks. Went to Apple and they have said they need to replace whole phone and I will need to pay $179 for replacement as speakers have too much muck on them to be cleaned but there was another small phone shop nearby that do repairs and they looked at it and said they need to replace the phone speakers only and will charge $65, so obviously I will go with them as my warranty had run out with Apple anyway. Thanks for getting back to me though : )
Thanks man.
nice method rich.
Does it do the same thing in multiple devices? It might still be a short because sometimes it's so bad the one side will stop working.
You are welcomed! Thanks for watching man!
Will the gel still work if you have the kind of key boarding that the key are raised?
wow good job!
Thanks!!
If it doesn't work the first time, try cleaning it a few more times. Totally fixed my iPod!
That's awesome. Thanks for the tip.
Check the two black lines that circle around the gold portion of the headphone jack. Two black lines means stereo. One line means mono. Could be an issue with the black lines.
@JLyau Thank you!
THANK YOU THANK YOU
@ihaveaweirdnameinc Ha. No it's an iPhone 4, the updated software though allows it to sound like Siri.
It's a bumper, I got it at the Apple store, but you can find them everywhere. The bumper has no front or back cover, just the sides.
...the ports and connectors have small sharp pins and edges inside then that will actually tear the foam and insulate the connection. You again want to use cotton because it will stick to itself and just spread out when it reaches one of those edges. After using the isopropyl alcohol to clean it, inspect it with a light to ensure no cotton ripped off and then let the phone or port remain off for at least 15-30 minutes. It is probably a good idea to tap the port to knock the alcohol and.....
Great!!
yep, that would help a lot ! ...
Coffee filters, coffee filters they are amazing at not leaving residue.
Nice, thanks for the info!
@urielmireles I know!! I tried to word it differently, but it was too "hard" haha. Thanks for watching!!
How you film the table from the up view?
Will this work for the jack on my headphones also ?
Does this work with xbox 360 controller jack and turtle beach talk back cable
Interesting. That is weird it's playing with or without the ground connected. Make sure all the threads of wire (or as many as you can) are connected to the connector on the new plug.
Yes it should.
my headphones only work when plugged in halfway. Any idea why? (I used other earbuds and stuff to see if my headphones were really the problem, and they are)
Please help: the headphone piece won't go in completely and I tried using other headphones and nothing, I think there is something solid in them, I have no warranty, so I need something I can do at my own house thank you for any help
i have an ipod touch 5 and for some reason it makes static noises when i plug in the headphones. i think there is dirt or something. but i blow into the jack and i dont thinks its dust. i really dont know. i took it to best buy but they told me to send it to apple and get it replaced. but i dont have $100 dollars to pay for a new one. do u think this will work for that?
You may have a faulty connector inside your headphone plug. I've seen it happen before on an ipod. I've been trying to increase the connectivity, but it's hard to do. You may be stuck with getting a new one. Try cleaning it out first though like I show in my vid.
my dr dre ibeats left ear bud stop working but i can can still hear from my right but when i push just a little bit on the jack i can hear it from my left ear bud ...... some times i can hear it when i move the wire a around to ............ im not sure if its the jack or its the wire.......... please help
Hmm, did you try to find a short? Bend the wire starting from the plug working your way up to each earphone. Do this while listening to music with the headphones. If the sound goes in and out when you bend the wire at a certain area, the short most likely is occurring there.
All i did to clean my audio jack on my phone was roll a small piece of duct tape (sticky-side out) and the stick it carefully into the jack and it pulls the lint right out. The only problem is you might have to do it a few times using a few different pieces. Great video though.
I would suggest getting out your vacuum cleaner. NO JOKE! Hook up the vacuum hose, and then turn it on and hold it over the problem port on your device. I wouldn't hold it right up to the port as it could potentially pull some tiny part loose inside, but you should be fine as long as it's a couple millimeters from the port opening. I do it all the time, and it works great to clean out ports.
Yes.
im from india and we dont get those tools or whatever here do you have any other method or replacement
Can I slightly wet microfiber cloth in isopropyl alcohol and wrap it around cottons swab to clean 3.5 female jack?
Another good tool to use are those little teeth cleaning "barbed" plastic devices. They're very small, about 1 inch long.Worked great for my ipod and is sturdy enough to not leave any residue behind. Wish apple would sell the tool they supposedly use at their Apple stores.
If you are going to retrieve anything from the headphone jack, use a wooden toothpick or something that is NOT metal to prevent shorting the plug. You could also try using canned air to force it out.
Hi Im using my mom account but my ipod and my brother BRAND NEW (got it today on christmas) Kindle fire have been having problems with our music we can hear the bass and the background very easy but we cant hear the singers singing unless they sing very loud high parts then there singing so quiet it back to hearing the bass we thought it was our new headphone but my sister can hear just fine with them and oddly her old headphone work fine with both our machines do i need to clean them or idk
Hi, my 2 yr old iphone4 sounds like a blanket is covering it when it rings or when i get a beep beep for a text msg. I have tried cleaning it at the speakers at the bottom of the phone and the ring tone is "slightly" louder but the keyboard clicks and lock sounds are still very faint. Any other suggestions you can think off other than what u have posted in youtube or should i see if Apple can repair it (and get charged a fortune in the process) Thanks
@DarkOfDeath890 You are welcome. Thanks for watching!
The next option would be to take the phone apart and clean it out. If you don't feel ambitious enough to do that, I'd take it to an Apple store. However, you can try some compressed air and blow it perpendicular to the phone (not directly into the speaker). Blowing it perpendicular prevents debris from being pushed up into the phone.
Can u show us an easy way onhow to make a usb battery backup
@Antarezx1 Ha, thanks.
I was watching a video on how o fix headphones that work on one side and it said to put chrome tape on the tip of the jack and I did and now the tape is stuck in the place where the jack goes and my iPod says "headphones" when I try to turn the volume up or down
Any tips
It's probably because your phone "thinks" that the headphone jack is being removed every time you bump your headphone jack. Your phone has a feature that pauses music when the headphone jack is removed. I'd try cleaning it the way I show in this video. Also, the radio shack cleaner I show in this video helps increase connectivity, which may solve this problem.
i might just do this cleaning some time down the road! lol
my laptop audio jack just plays the left earphone, any help??
@ilikepieism I definitely try it out next time.
Try using a vacuum to remove them if possible.
What can I do if my phone or iPod keeps scratching my earbud's jack?
Sometimes the locking mechanism in the plug can get worn out. You may need to replace the jack.
I have tried all headphones on my phone and they all only sound from 1 ear if not plugged halfway in.. but on my pc they all work fine? help!
I'd use the lubricant spray I show in this video. It might help.
@baukepoelsma LOL- I don't remember saying that in the video...
Hello my ipod audio jack is acting funny every time i pkug my headphone in it still play speaker i trie every thing i could to fix it do mind making a video about this problem i really appreciate if u do
i bought the new apple earpods and they're ok but the remote wont work with my ipod 4g and i tried using them on other ipod/ipad and they worked
thnkas, for the video, and you can use the loquendo's program for the computer voice, its better
How do u fix the top of the phone where u plug ur earphones
I'd start by replacing the plug. The short may be occurring right next to the plug, which is why it isn't changing the sound when you bend the wire. Good luck.
mine doesn't work sometimes, when i twist my headphone plug, the sound on the left fades away. the right side still works somehow :S?
How can I make my head phones longer?
somehow my 3.5 mm female jack on my laptop cracked. Now the 3.5 mm male cord on my headphones won't go in all the way since it is broken. Any suggestions?
RichsMethods my iphone 5 lpug jack is stuck from a eraser dust..my lil brother(baby) push the the dust into the plug jack. so i cant put my earphone now..can you make a tutorial how to clean the plug jack from the inside? i really need your help. PLEASE!

Removing a broken headphone plug" by doug moore
try to pull whatever it is out with glue on the end of a pen like in this, also try sliding a toothpick or similar object with glue all the way thru the tube and that way you dont get risk glue getting in the jack
I would assume it would.
help!?! i got rice grains stuck in the charger jack!! what now??
Just today I plugged in my headphones and it wouldn't go in and then I looked in the jack and it had some crap in there and it and I made it worse what do I do
good
Is it okay if the red wire (after burning it) comes in contact with the other wires ?
No, they won't work right. Place some electrical tape or plumbers tape (Teflon tape) around the wire to prevent any cross connection from occurring.
@ThexDodgerx I'm havin the same exact problem with my beats!
Are you sure it's your laptop? Have you tested multiple devices in the laptop to make sure?
Yes, I'd try this cleaner/lubricant first and then send it to Apple.
does ZAGGfoam work
Hay, my ipod wont let me fit in my headphone jack, there is somthing blocking my headphone jack inside the ipod, help please
It still only works with my heard phones a certain way and my headphones are new and work with other devices
Your device's plug is probably stripped, bummer.
Same here @thexDodgerx
I used a square-ish toothpick to take out a whole lot of lint from my iPod headphone plug and only certain headphones work in it. This has been a problem before and it got worse with the lint. I thought taking out the lint would have fixed it but it didn't. T_T
hey but how do u fix the headphones that make a wierd sound like (shhshhshhhsh) lol how do u fix that plz reply
You're welcome.
Your ipod may just need to be cleaned like I show in this video. Remember that using less of the cleaner is more to prevent any problems from using too much liquid. Another problem that iPods are prone to is the connector inside the ipod may be "stripped" in other words, the connectors inside plug may be worn out. I tried replacing one of these myself and it is pretty difficult. For the Kindle, I'd contact Amazon, it should be covered under warranty. It's too new to be having problems.
First, try the headphones in another device to make sure it is doing the same thing. If it is doing the same thing than you need to replace the plug. If not, it most likely the jack.
If you're in Australia or New Zealand, radio shack is basically jay car ;)
That's good to know. Thanks!
You just need to make the headphone jack fit more tightly in the Android's Jack (sounds so wrong...ha), or increase the connectivity. I have a feeling that the jack is dirty, which is probably causing your problem. Clean it out 2-3 times to make sure you got it all, just do not soak the jack with cleaner (use the foam like I show in the video). Good luck!
